Loyal Guests Taken Advantage of During a Crisis: My wife and I have stayed at this Holiday Inn Express many times, and we've always had good experiences -- until now. After a storm knocked out power in Annapolis for two days, we needed somewhere safe and cool to stay. Temperatures were high, and we had no choice but to find a hotel. What we didn't expect was to be charged $988.51 for two nights. The normal rate here is around $166-$184 a night, which means two nights should have been roughly $237-$245. Instead, we were hit with a bill that was four times the standard cost. At a time when families everywhere are struggling financially, this felt like a punch in the gut. We trusted this brand. We've stayed here multiple times. But this experience made us feel taken advantage of during a vulnerable moment. We're deeply disappointed, and unless something changes, we'll be looking at other hotels in the future. read more

I noticed the newest review was from May 2023, so I felt compelled to write one, and add some fresh photos. Yes, there are a few things that could use updating, but all in all my room with king bed was quite nice. The furniture was obviously older, with a few dings here and there. But the bed, although firm, was very comfortable for me - I can't stand furniture I sink into. The pillows had cases with the word "soft" or "firm", which is nice. Everything was spotless! The bathroom was definitely updated, and was not so small I couldn't turn around. Of course, it is also ADA compliant. I really appreciated all the grab bars! I am not disabled, just old & creaky ;) The water got hot quickly and had plenty of pressure, so the tub filled fast. And unlike the last tub in a hotel, which had grab bars, this one had water controller within easy reach while sitting. Nice. The fridge was apartment-sized, with a tiny freezer shelf. The microwave was also small, but adequate. I wish hotels wouldn't use Keurig coffeemakers due to the waste, but I brought my reuseable K-cup & grounds. The machine worked fine. There was a large flat screen TV and ... thinking ... either DirecTV or Comcast, I don't recall which. It had a cable guide and was easy to navigate. Breakfast was free, of course, and had a nice variety of hot and cold foods, breadstuffs, cereals, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, juices, etc. On Saturday I had a biscuit & half a ladle of sausage gravy, some crispy bacon, and scrambled eggs. All perfectly hot and tasty. I filled my commuter mug about halfway with some decaf, just to reheat what I made in the room. Sunday had similar offerings, although instead of scrambled eggs there were mini omelets with cheese; oh, and both days there were egg white veggie omelets. No bacon, but sausage links; there were also turkey sausage patties. I skipped the biscuit but did put a dab of sausage gravy over my links. Again, quite tasty and perfectly hot. I took a few photos of the breakfast seating because an earlier review complained that there wasn't enough. I saw two different families, one with 4 people and one with 5, sitting together. On Saturday evening, DD & DGD came to visit & swim. We had a nice time, for me because the water was actually warm enough for me to go in! I'm a big sissy about cold water ;) The jacuzzi was pleasantly hot and bubbly, too. I don't know what the room cost because it was a thank you staycation gift from DD & SIL. I can say that items in the snack bar are $$$, so better bring your chips & stuff with you! Or drive .3 mile to the Harris Teeter store that's just up the road! The hotel is old. While the lobby is a bit updated, the rest of the building and rooms screams 1980s. The first thing that hits you is the smell of industrial cleaners, which is overpowering. The amenities are lacking. The "fitness room" is not much larger than a walk-in closet and has just a few cardio machines and some dumbbells. The (cess)pool looked disgusting. There was no way I was going in there. The breakfast was a repetitive, offering little choice and lacking healthy items. The coffee was out 3/4 mornings I tried to get it. The rooms were poorly designed and maintained. The walls had cracks in the drywall and marks on the paint. The lighting, like most hotels, was exceptionally poor. The 1980s style A/C unit was inefficient and worked poorly at maintaining a constant room temperature. The bathroom was exceptionally tiny, making it difficult for even a skinny man to do a complex set of maneuvers around the toilet just to close the door. The fridge and microwave in the room were awkwardly positioned without any cabinetry or whatnot. While the bed was comfortable, the remaining furniture was old, uncomfortable, and in the case of the chair, broken. The in-room entertainment was lacking compared to most hotels. The cable package consisted of about 36 channels. It did not feature an interactive menu, so you had to flip though channels. It did not offer the ability to use your own streaming services. The hotel was exceptionally noisy. The poor quality of windows ensured you could hear road noise and music from passing cars two streets over. The staff took no action to address loud guests, to include a mob of adolescents that ran up and down the halls slamming doors and shouting at night. Even louder was the hotel's housekeepers, who maintained conversations the length of the hall while they worked. It was very disruptive. Overall, I give the hotel two stars because it is in a decent location, with multiple restaurants and grocery stores in walking distance. I also felt safe there, so there is that. read more

I had a wonderful experience here! We stayed one night and I was greatly surprised! Here is why: 1. The modernness of the hotel chain has greatly improved! The Holiday Inn is becoming a top inexpensive hotel contender. 2. The service was great! Very friendly staff and front desk personnel. 3. Room was very clean, bathroom was clean, bed sheets, pillows ect. Room has a mini fridge and microwave.. Also FREE WIFI in rooms! 5. Great amenities, indoor pool, business center with FREE PRINTER! FREE breakfast! Which has a large variety of options and is between 6:30- 9:30. 6. Great location ! Close to many restaurants, businesses and the highway. I was very impressed and would stay here again! I believe the HI chain has take previous reviews and worked on improving their chain! Trust me. I am very picky about hotels in this price range. I paid $99 including tax through priceline. My room was immaculate, as well as the entire hotel. The people working in the hotel were very friendly and highly engaged. The location was walking distance to a lifestyle center with not less than six restaurants and lots of shopping. The free Breakfast was delicious. One of the more pleasant hotel experiences I've ever had, simply because it was completely uneventful. No issues, no stress. read more

Stayed here 3 nights for business. It is decent hotel overall besides the really hard and uncomfortable bed, but the horrible service ruined it for me. I called multiple weeks ahead and asked for late checkout for my final day since I had work to do, which they agreed and told me the latest was 3pm. Great. So I planned to work and leave by 3pm. The night before checkout, I even called the front desk to confirm I had late checkout. They told me yes, they see it on my reservation, no problem. However at 11:15 the morning of checkout, I get a call in my room by Evelyn at the front desk saying I need to check out. I told her I had arranged late checkout and she told me, no you did not, we don't do that, you need to leave because we have a large party coming and we need to clean your room. I told her, it was arranged ahead of time for my reservation and I even confirmed last night. She replied, oh that person is new they don't know what they're doing. Wow. I told her, well I'm in the middle of work I can't stop and I need until 3pm as I had planned to. After going back and forth she agreed to 2pm, even though I needed 3pm as planned. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there was none. Only when I asked her name did she say okay, you can stay until 3. This after arguing with me and being extremely rude and unprofessional. In all my years of staying at hotels, I've never ever experienced being treated like that. This same person, Evelyn, was even rude at check in. She wasn't even at the front desk when I arrived and the door was locked so I couldn't even get in the hotel. I waited for a while before she finally let me in. Once I did and got my room key, I asked for a cart to haul up all my stuff since I had a lot and was told they're all occupied. No concern whatsoever as I struggled to get all my stuff up. People like Evelyn should not work in hospitality. Oh and the kicker is when I checked out before 3pm, this large party they were kicking me out for was not even there. So all that arguing and rude service... for nothing. I was planning to come stay at this hotel regularly and now I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I stayed at this hotel around the corner from my house because my A/C was out. The lights and TV kept going out caused by an apparent fuse issue. We were forced to move to another room at 1:00am in the morning because of this issue. When approaching the staff on Saturday, we were told there was nothing that can be done. Upon check out, I asked for a manager and was simply told IF we stayed there again in the future, we could get an upgrade. If an upgrade was an option, im not sure why that was not offered when we had to move at 1am, in the middle of the night. I told the manager that the chances of staying there again were slim as I live close & nothing was done. There should have been something offered for the inconvenience of having to move. read more

Started off well but had endless problems. The location was good and the front desk was nice but the housekeeping was awful. Cleaned one of the rooms with a dirty rag. The sofa bed was dirty and full of lint. Had a total of three rooms. One room had to get the ac replaced and refrigerator was broken. The other room had to get the tv replaced and then on the last night a bunch of bugs kept appearing. One room was pretty decent minus the door broken. The pool was not so clean the kids loved it but i was afraid for them to get in because how dirty it looked and the floor grounds were dirty. I've stayed here before long time ago and was decent but i guess new management new cleaners and you get endless problems. Newer hotel, I've enjoyed most of my stays here. Though I will say, for whatever reason, it attracts some .. outsiders? I've seen guys drinking out front, hippies wearing no shoes, dreaded (dredded??) men hanging in the lobby, it's like there should be some outdoor music festival down the street. Never really bothered me much, but I've seen it a couple times now, so I've taken note. I'm so surprised at some of the reviews & negative feedback on the staff. I've never had ANY issues here, in fact, 2 of the staff members (this was quite some time ago) were especially friendly & made my stay very pleasant. We reserved a block of rooms for a family reunion. The staff were excellent from check in to housekeeping. The rooms were clean. Nothing fancy. Upon checking into the room, the shower curtain had been removed. As we saw housekeeping in the hallway, she stated that it had been taken down for cleaning. She immediately replaced the shower curtain. The location of the hotel was perfect for our family event as it was next to the park.The continental break was a also a hit! The biggest dilemma was at checkout- one relative who had done a cash deposit was charged $25 for a water stain on a pillow. I found that to be totally unacceptable. read more

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in laure on July 7th. My expectations were NOT properly set when I made my reservation that there was a festival this day and upon arriving I would be greeted by a police officer and my name along with anyone in the room with me had to be on a list to park on the property, and a parking pass had to be displayed. I had a Junior Suite and a Standard room in which 4 adults were staying and 3 were drivers. I spoke with a young man and advised him that I had a 3rd adult that needed a parking pass, he said it was perfectly fine he added her name to the list and said for me to have her come to the front desk for a parking pass when she arrived. When my sister arrived she went to the front desk just to be turned away! A woman at the front desk who was a "manager" was very rude during the entire interaction and told my sister she had to park off the property. My sister told her she was staying the night and also advised she was on the list for a parking pass and that we spoke to someone already. The "manager" then said to my sister "well I don't know why he would tell you that you could get a parking pass he's just a worker". Remind you there's a festival so it was very hard to find parking in the area and she would have to walk very far to get back to the hotel after parking. My sister left the property and called me while trying to find a parking space I immediately told her to come back. I called the front desk and spoke to the woman and explained to her how dissatisfied I was with being told one thing and when my family member arrives she's being told something different. She says to me "well do you have a parking pass" I said yes I have 2 parking passes she said "well you ha e more than you should have it's only one per room". I reminded her I had 2 rooms and I also mentioned in these 2 rooms I had 4 adults and 3 were driving so how could you turn your guest away to park off of the property. This was my first to e staying at this location so I then asked her is this how they normally do business at this location or is it because of the festival. She said it was because of the festival and the said " well since he already told you to get the parking pass just come get it". I don't feel this was handled professionally! I was very upset with the way this "manager" was talking to us, how the situation was handled and really upset with my expectations not being properly set when making my reservation. read more

A really nice and clean hotel with very friendly staff. The pool had clear windows so was very uncomfy for us people staring at us while they walking by! The WiFi access was pretty good not the fastest and not the slowest I have ever used! Allover it was a very nice place to stay and will recommend it to everyone! read more

I booked here after a long day on the road. I was greeted by a staff one male one female. Female was kind and helpful. Place was packed. I paid the rate and went to dinner and ultimately came back to bed exhausted. The bed was good and I slept ok considering the amount of kids in the hallway. The thing that grossed me out and deserving of the one star. (If I could do zero stars I feel this gets it; was I got up for a long day of driving looking forward to a hot shower. The shower never got hot and the icing on the cake was the remaining ladies shaving cover for a razor, purple in color and the remnants of body hair...non-leg type IN. THE. SHOWER. SO GROSS but I needed a shower so I rinsed it down opposed to taking a picture. After a 7 minute wait to get Luke warm I showered and dressed. I really didn't feel like eating. I stopped to talk with the front desk clerk. After all posted all over the hotel is signs stating if you were going to rate us under a perfect 10 let us know and we will fix it. This gentlemen was told about my experience and he just said "ya know those housekeeping people don't always do a good job". He didn't offer to talk about it just went on to other things. He is the face of that hotel and the chain and he passed off blame so fast and so easy it must be habit. So I attempted to have something remedies and didn't think it was. I can see why the lower ratings for this hotel now and wish I had stayed elsewhere. read more

I've stayed here a few times, but today was an entire different story. The front desk staff was wonderful (as always). Very friendly, polite, and helpful. Breakfast included (I do have Platinum status). The problems began when I hiked to my room (223). The odd set up of the room made it nearly impossible for it to get cool....strike 1. The Internet was SLOWER THE SLOW!! I would have been better off sending mail via pony express.....strike 2. I was awoken at 2:30 in the morning to what I thought was a slamming door. It continued on and off until 5:00. When I got up I heard the noise again. I now think it was a plumbing "knock"......strike 3. I'll even throw you an extra strike......the bed!!! How uncomfortable. It was like a tempurpedic mattress but sooooo uncomfortable. It was like sleeping in a marshmallow....you get sucked in and can't get out. I travel for a living and spend roughly 200 nights in hotels. This is in no way the worst hotel I have stumbled across. It was clean. The linens fresh, and in a safe area. It was however by far one of my worst nights sleep in a LONG time. So, I give it one star for the great staff, and one star for the cleanliness. That's it...nothing more. Now I must head off and find some serious coffee to make up for the lack of sleep. read more

Very friendly staff. Clean rooms. Reasonable prices. The mornings continental breakfast is great to come down to after catching some zzz's. Only 5 stories so no long elevator rides. Simple gym to not skip leg day. They had an indoor pool but i did not use it nor their conference rooms. Their office room needs a new printer though, it printed 19 pages in 20 minutes. Had suite next to elevator and was very annoying. Pull out sofa was so incredibly uncomfortable I put it back and slept on the sofa. When I asked for bedding for said pull out, only got sheets, no blanket. Tap in bathroom ran so slowly, it was hardly worth brushing my teeth. Always a pleasure to stay with Holiday Inn Express. I booked a king room here last minute while staying in another hotel (Garden Inn) that was absolutely putrid. The room itself was lovely. Nice couch and desk area. Comfy bed. Very clean in the room, as was the rest of the hotel. I recommend that you sign up for the IHG Rewards Membership as it will give you a nice discount and perks when you stay with them. I've been members of other hotel chains that offer you room preferences, but don't actually follow through with your requests. Holiday Inn always does. As far as the hotel room goes it was ok. My poor review here is based on the restaurant. $8 for a continental breakfast is ridiculous. Not only that but the selection was worse than poor. I guess I'm from the west and I'm used to the continentals being free. A regular breakfast was even more of a rip at $13. Anyway. We spent $65 and before we left my kids were asking if we could stop to get a banana or something because they could not find enough to eat here. read more

I have spoken with the hotel manager following the original incident and was informed of the security measures that were taken afterwards and was offered the chance for further correspondence, so I am pleased with that response. This is a great Hotel with staff that work to accommodate your needs, especially Vanessa at the front desk. She is energetic, respectful and very pleasant - a great person to have on staff as she made our entire party feel right at home. The beds are comfortable, the rooms were very clean, close to restaurants, entertainment and shopping. Also you get top notch service from the rest of the staff but if you are a rewards member - they acknowledge that making you feels as though you are a part of the most premier club around. I love it - The holiday inn chain is a great place to stay while on holiday or if you just want to get away for the weekend. Remember to ask for Vanessa at the front desk - she is the most delightful person I have met and she truly appeared to enjoy serving everyone who entered the hotel. read more

My family and I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights so I am comfortable that my review is fair. The hotel's weakness is what several other reviews have also noted; the staff. We arrived late in the evening so we were the only ones in the lobby. I walked up and had my IHG membership and credit card ready, unbelievably the clerk offered no greeting, no light conversation while prepared our keys and noted our arrival. My wife and were dumbstruck that she could stand there and not talk to us. Finally a simple comment about the wi-fi and room were offered when she was finished. As I picked up my credit card and IHG card she finally asked what IHG offer I preferred. It was so bizarre it was almost funny. The hotel has been remodeled and has an appearance you come to expect in the brand. Our room was clean and the housekeeping staff did a great job throughout our stay. The security staff was also very prompt in addressing concerns and helping keep noisy guests quiet at 2am. I don't believe in addressing the behavior of other guests in hotel reviews, other people's rude behavior is not the fault of management. However, what the management needs to address the staff lack of attention to details. Examples, a 2-bed room should not be stocked with just two towel sets; our room lacked a complete set of complimentary bath items when we arrived; the sole luggage carrier has broken wheels; unfriendly front-desk staff and a non-functioning phone in our room are just a few examples. The breakfast was run efficiently, always well stocked and ready for guests on-time with attentive staff members emptying the trash and refilling items as they ran out. read more

By far the worst Holiday Inn Express I've stayed in. I'm in town a week for work and I came to the hotel I trusted the most. When I arrived the hotel, I was pleased with the cleanest of my room. The problems started the next day. I was woken up very early by a extremely large crowd of school age children in the conference room right across from my room. This happened every single morning. I could literally hear people leaning against my door. To make it worst, there were extremely loud daily conferences that start after hours. 9pm and beyond every day. I'm a big coffee drinker, so daily coffee is a must. Unfortunately my coffee was never replace in my room after the first day. Definitely would not recommend this place to anyone, Unless you like having your space intruding on and very loud noises at abnormal times. read more

So I'm here for the large conference after driving for 2 1/2 hours. Won't check me in without using my personal credit card(rooms are reserved in a big block). I'm so sure my employer who reserved over 100 rooms wouldn't pay but yet you want to put the charge (authorization which holds up my money for 3-5 days) on my card. I also think the checkout time is ridiculous at 12pm and check in at 3 pm. I sure hope I never have to stay here in the future. I will also tell my employer never to use this location ever! Stayed here for 1 night on 4/29 and enjoyed my stay. The staff was pleasant and attentive, especially the woman who checked me in (forgot her name, she was training someone) and Andrew on the next morning. The room was large and clean. I stay frequently at hotels and have rarely seen a lifeguard on duty, he was alert to my child's movements while in the pool area. Thanks for a great night. read more

I visited Holiday Inn Express in Laurel, MD on Friday, September 14, 2018, and everything was fine until I met one of the employees, Al Mullen. He told me he worked there, but he was taking a break and if I was free I could come visit him to keep him company in his room. He said he was just waiting for his shift to start. I told him I don't think so and he then asked if he could come to my room instead and we could have dinner, then asked for my phone number. I walked away because I felt creeped out from the beginning. I have never before written a review of a hotel, but I felt this was way out of line, and my friend told me I should write one to keep this from happening to someone else. I felt very uncomfortable and didn't even want to leave the room. I was visiting someone else and didn't even have to pay for this room this time, but I know I will never again visit this hotel. read more

The staff was great, very helpful. We hosted a baby shower at the property - Kristen the contact person was extremely easy to work with and very quick with her responses to my questions. The event space was setup exactly as we requested with everything we requested. The front desk staff was helpful with us asking for a few last minute things as we were setting up. TINY airplane bathroom in the room. Toilet had only 4-5" clearance from the door when closing the door and very little from the sink/counter. Would have used the room without closing the door but then couldn't get into the shower because the door was in the way. Would have been much better to sacrifice some room space to make the bathroom wider and using a pocket door so the door wouldn't be in the way. No way 2 could use the sink. Good thing we're relatively thin people. There were no USB charging docks/there was a 1st gen iPhone dock on the clock.... Signage boasts it's a 100% smoke free facility, but 2 staff were smoking immediately outside the front door which meant the entryway was filled with smoke and arriving late we had to go through there to get in but it's locked at that hour so we had to wait there in the smoke until someone unlocked it--too long to hold your breath--which led to an uncomfortable coughing attack. Not as well maintained as some--poorly painted, dinged furniture, old carpet. Not a good experience in this chain--other locations are much better--won't go there again. read more

First, this hotel is along Rt. 1 South NOT route 198 East. The room was medium-sized and it included a microwave / fridge. A small table-desk is provided and a sofa is available in the 1 king bed rooms. The FREE continental breakfast was tasty.We stayed here 2 nights (Fri and Sat). Kudos to the helpful staff ! read more
