We visited St. Augustine to see the Christmas Lights and booked a weekend stay at Holiday Inn Express & Suites. Although the hotel was about 20 minutes from downtown, the reasonable price during a busy holiday weekend made it a good choice. We checked in at 3:00 PM, but there was a slight delay, and we had to wait around 30 minutes to get the keys to our room. Our room had two double-sized king beds, which were comfortable and spacious enough for our family of three to share one bed easily. The only issue we faced during our stay was with the air conditioner. We set it to automatic, but it was either too cold or too warm, making it difficult to maintain a consistent temperature in the room. On the positive side, the breakfast provided by the hotel was included in our stay and was delicious. It was convenient to have a good breakfast without needing to spend extra money. Overall, our stay at Holiday Inn Express & Suites was comfortable, and we didn't encounter any major problems. read more

My husband and I booked three nights at this hotel to enjoy a long weekend in St. Augustine. We noticed ants in our room immediately, so requested a room change, which they promptly did. We held our breath however, because our first room was 206 and they moved us to 306, so we wondered if we would have the same issue. The second room initially seemed fine, so we unpacked our things and went out to enjoy the "Nights of Lights." We also had stopped at a German bakery along the way and had $30 of pastries in a box that we placed on a high shelf, just in case. On returning to our room about 10:30pm, we noticed ants again, everywhere, on the bedside table, the bathroom sink, bathroom wall, and kitchenette counter. I went to the front desk again, but they informed us there was nothing they could do as they were fully booked for the night. We felt like we were stuck for the night, so went back to the room and sat down to eat a pastry only to discover the box was crawling with ants! We packed up our things and went back downstairs and informed the desk it was worse than we realized and we were leaving. Since we booked through a third party, they informed us we had to contact the third party to request a refund. We made the three hour drive home at midnight. The next morning we contacted the third party, who then reached out to the hotel directly to get approval for the refund. The agent came back and said the hotel was only willing to refund us for two nights, not three! I asked to escalate the issue with a supervisor and explained that we should not be charged for a room we did not spend the night in. She called the hotel again and said the hotel was firm about only refunding us for two nights. Thankfully the third party agreed to refund us the other night, which they certainly did not have to do. It appears this is an ongoing problem, because I have now seen another review with complaints of ants and the hotel being unwilling to refund them as well. So not only is there an ant infestation, but there is also a lack of basic customer service from management. DO NOT stay at this hotel ever! read more

We checked in on 9/10 to visit the St. Augustine area. It was overall a great stay. The front desk agent that checked us in was knowledgable and offered FABULOUS recommendations for eating and entertainment! That being said, when we went to check out and get a copy of our receipt we were met with a lazy lady sitting on a stool, completely not engaged in jer job. She identified herself as the Assistant General Manager. My husband had my 2 service dogs, both trained and certified to alert for my seizure disorder related to MS. She proceeded to tell my husband that he was not the handler and they do not allow dogs in the hotel! I walked 15 ft to get a cup of coffee! It was a complete violation of ADA compliance. I am not happy and when calling into IHG to make a complaint, I have not heard back! That lady needs to be addressed specifically, that is a liability for the company, violating ADA laws isn't something that a business should want attached to their name. read more

Just spent 3 days at the hotel as we do every March. Not sure why this place seems to have lower rating and I have seen other reviewers and not my experience. The front desk people are always friendly and helpful no matter what time of day. We arrived at 2am and the gentleman was more than welcoming and even asked if we wanted a bottle of water and maybe some muffins to eat. The rooms are well maintained, clean and free of stains I've seen elsewhere. The breakfast is probably one of the better ones for any hotel where it's included. Penny is great and on top Of everything. She knows most of the regular guests by name who come each year for spring training. The food has a variety daily and it always stocked. With the time change this weekend they even stayed open later. Close vicinity to walk to a blue jay spring training game or short ride to a Phillies game. If your into craft beer you have 7 places within walking distance. read more

This is the WORST HIExpress we've ever stayed in. This room (#203) seriously needs a plumber. Every spigot leaks either from the handle or the faucet. In fact they've been leaking for so long the metal is corroded. The lobby needs vacuuming. The hallway needs vacuuming. I have 3 hangers in my suite. And the sofa has little holes in the upholstery... We consistently stay in HIE's because the quality is good. But not this one. We won't be back, sad to say. read more

Located right off I-95 in St Augustine it's close to other hotels, fast food restaurants and gas stations (so it's perfect for a one night stay during a road trip). Room was clean but hallway carpet looked a bit dated, old as did some of the furniture in the room. Shower only got warm and there was no hand soap, shampoo or body was (there was condition though). Room was quiet except for the air conditioner and some noise from the interstate. Bed was comfortable. Not a lot of parking for some reason. But it was fine. Spent time at this location and had a decent time. The lobby isn't anything fancy . The hotel staff are pleasant and helpful. We had to wait for our room as it's a busy location. The room itself is alright nothing fancy .The room is a bit dreary and the sofa was in need of repair . The maid service is very good thou and such helpful ladies. The breakfast in the mornings is pretty good . They have a small workout room and a nice indoor pool. The only thing that I wish they would change is the toiletries in the bathroom. read more

Pretty good stay at a very reasonable price. Booked two connecting, double queens room for 7 nights. This hotel is conveniently located right off of I-95, and about 9 to 10 miles from the historic sights. Hotel is within walking distance to several fast food joints and next door to a Dunkin Donuts. There's also an Outlet Mall a street away. There's plenty free parking spaces for hotel guest. The lobby is small but cozy and clean. Checking in was quick and easy. Front desk staff were very cordial and helpful and wore sincere smiles throughout our time there. We were given a lot of information at once concerning breakfast and rest of amenities, but she mentioned we could always call or stop by with any questions. Our rooms were very nice and spacious. The rooms had a microwave, mini fridge, a small pantry or storage shelf next to the mini fridge, two complementary water bottles, a Keurig with 3 k-cups and tea bags ready to use. The bathroom was spacious, clean and stocked with plenty of towels and toiletries. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. Their indoor pool was open until 11 pm, which was convenient since we were out most of the day exploring and were able to enjoy it at night. It was a small pool but served it's purpose, my kids surely enjoyed it. Although, I have to say that after about an hour or so in the pool room, the chlorine smell gave me a headache. The business service and laundry room came in handy, once or twice. Laundry room had two washers and two dryers, $2 in quarters are needed per machine and detergent is also available to purchase. There's also a small area next to the front desk where certain junk foods, candies and drinks could be purchased. Their complementary hot breakfast was good. It's open from 7 to 10am and with a nice variety. Staff was great, constantly refilling coffee pots, foods and cleaning up. The only downfall to our stay was that in order for the beds to be made or sheets changed in the rooms, we either had to throw everything on the floor or leave it all super messy. If you so much as straightened your sheets or comforter, they would clean and replenish toiletries and other things in the room but wouldn't touch the beds. All in all, it was pretty good. The hotel was pretty clean and the beds comfy, but our neighbors were either extremely loud and rude or the walls were thin. The next morning we could hear their tv in our room...There was a promised hot breakfast, but a sign that said breakfast was going to be late (at 8:40 and it started at 6) but the girl at the desk said it probably wasn't going to happen. So we went to get juice and cereal. There was no milk and the juice machine wasn't working. We ended up with coffee and a bowl of dry cereal. There is a chick Fil a and Dublin next door, so we just had to drive to get something. We met some people in the elevator who said they didn't have hot water and nothing had been done about it (reported it last night). These things will cause us not to come back if we are in the area. If I could give this Hotel a -10 Stars, I would!! - I called to book a reservation the Sunday prior to Thursday check-in; The girl I spoke with took my info over the phone, but failed to enter into the hotel computer reservation system; I called again to make sure as I had not received a Confirmation email, and learned there was no reservation for my wife and me. I rebooked the reservation; - We were not informed at time of booking, the reductions in Services... The Pool being closed... The "Grab & Go" Breakfast... Our rooms would not be serviced daily; and if we wanted change of Bathroom linens, we would need to put the dirty outside the room the night before (we weren't informed of that until we checked in; When we asked the Housekeeper for our floor for fresh linens the next morning, she stated she had none, but failed to tell us we can get them at the front desk, nor did she offer to get them for us. NONE OF THE ABOVE WAS TOLD TO ME ATH THE TIME OF BOOKING!! So much for Customer Service. I understand safety precautions during this difficult time, but there is NO excuse for not going the extra distance to make sure we knew what we were buying. Now the rest: - Hot water pressure when trying to get hot water in the bathtub was a dribble; I learned they have the equipment to give better water pressure, but because a customer in a room nearby thought it was too loud, the manager had it shut down; - Hot water in the bathtub was under 90 degrees and only when all the way up. I was informed that at one time, it was set to 130 degrees, there was a complaint so it was reduced to 120. When we were there it was barely warm (maybe 89 degrees); - As I have physical disabilities and in a power chair, my wife and were trying to enter the elevator to check out, the housekeeper exiting the elevator with laundry, did nothing to help us keep from losing the elevator, though she saw we were struggling. - There has been NO contact or follow-up from Management. If you have an opportunity to stay at the Holiday Inn Express St Augustine (NORTH) - PASS IT UP!! There are better Hotel(s)/Motel(s) nearby...Even Next door (their pool is open!!)! I certainly will not stay there again, You shouldn't stay there either. read more

Very poor check in experience. Unfortunately I had to wait over 40 minutes while a large party checked in. I had no problem with that. One of the ladies had her card declined and she insisted the room should be free. Someone finally decided to help me and then he started talking and apologizing to the woman who had been complaining. He totally ignored me and held my key in his hand for a few minutes while he talked to the other lady. I didn't receive an apology for my wait. Also, this is an older hotel that is poorly kept. The hallway floors are dirty and the room is not much better. I would not recommend staying here. I guess I got what I paid for. read more

We've stayed at many Holiday Inn Express properties. This one is just disappointing. Came to check in and room was not ready (it was after the 3pm checkin time). We were told it would be about 15 minutes. An hour later we were given keys to get into a room that was clearly not ready. Half (at best) roll of toilet paper. No soap/shampoo, not vacuumed, etc. Went to the desk to ask for more toilet paper...couldn't get it. We had to wait for someone to bring it up to us. No vending machines on site and NO water bottles available for purchase. When I asked the front desk if they sold water, they said "no, but if you find some let us know." (Insert eye roll). The front desk staff was not very helpful and all the employees seemed tired, overworked, and generally disinterested. No thank you. read more

I would give this hotel a solid 3 stars due to the good and bad I experienced here. First the good: The hotel and room were neat and clean. The front desk service was good, except she couldn't answer why she needed my credit card, when they already had charges with incidentals pending on it? It's close to interstate and the outlet mall, if you care for that sort of thing. The bad: The mattress was worn out, it was so soft and spongy it just engulfed you when you laid on it. The hot water was hit and miss. It would just be warm for 10 minutes or so and then it would get hot for several minutes and then warm again. The A/C has a motion sensor located above the door to detect whether you are in the room when the door opens/closes. The breakfast was just fair. We went and ate at Dunkin Doughnuts the second morning. If in the area again I don't think I would stay here again. read more

This hotel is good -- probably 3 1/2 stars -- clean and modern and all the usual amenities. Staff at front desk is efficient and personable. Wonderful to have our room upgraded too. It is quite convenient to I95 and the Outlet Mall so makes an ideal business trip overnight stop. A few quibbles re the breakfast bar -- food luke warm and no hot water near the coffee but easily remedied -- went into kitchen and asked for my plate to be zapped 30 seconds. Found another thing of hot water for my tea near the cereal... Would I go back? Definitely yes when I need to be in that area for business again. read more

I booked this hotel on June 27 for 07/12 to 07/15. I was travelling with my husband, mother-in- law and 2 year old granddaughter. My mother-in- law recently had an amputation surgery and is currently in a wheelchair, so I made sure to book a double queen mobility accessible room. Mary called me at 2:30 on 07/12 to tell me that our room is not available and they could give us a king accessible room with a roll away bed. Mary was really rude and acted like we didn't really need a room with wheelchair access. I tried to find another room at hotels close by but ended up having to call corporate. They found me a room at another Holiday Inn Express farther away. Please do not book here! read more

My evening started with being sent to a room with someone already in it. The second room was clearly a smokers room despite the fact that it's. Non smoking hotel. The third and final room, after wiping everything down for COVID we noticed all surfaces to be fairly dirty. The walls are paper thin. We could hear actual conversation s and their expressions of love as if we were in the room with them. Breakfast was fair. Room coffee was terrible. Room water tasted of metal. This room was very disappointing. There were stains on the seat that looked like they were from couple activities. The remote was very dirty, it was so dirty and grimy we had to wash it. It's nice you do maintenance, however, dont book out them rooms, I had a terrible headache all night! The toilet didn't work very good. No complimentary breakfast & I forgot my $40.00 phone charger there & twice I called and I still haven't heard back from them? Really? Pretty crappy customer service if you ask me! Had a great two night stay. Upon arrival I was upgraded which was great ! The staff could not have been nicer . One evening, after a long day of sight seeing, I could not figure out how to use the microwave to heat my burger . So, I went down and the desk attendant did it for me ! The good: Hotel appeared clean, there is a Keurig in the room, and the desk clerk was very nice. There is also a hotel pantry to purchase soft drinks, ice cream, etc. at only slightly inflated prices. The less than good: The internet connection was very slow making it impossible to get any work done using the hotel's WiFi. It would connect but then simply quit responding. The WiFi had a strong signal. I eventually gave up on the hotel internet and used my cell phone as an access point to the cellular data network. I suspect the hotel does not have enough bandwidth for the number of guests. The second problem was the HVAC system. I like to have the fan run continuously to provide some white noise while I sleep. I also like the temperature to be about 70 degrees F. This system is designed to only provide a continuous fan if the heating and cooling are both off. If either the heat or cool is on, the fan cycles on and off each time the system cycles, making it impossible to have both a comfortable temperature and a continuous fan. This issue is a deal breaker for me, I will not stay here again. read more

My family and I checked in on Monday, July 3. The trash can on the outside was flowing over with trash. The elevator had a waffle fry and other debris in it. We got to the 3rd floor and it was hot. Inside our room, it was clean, but the fridge was not plugged in. It did not cool properly. My husband called the front desk 4 different times with no answer, and this was not long after we had arrived. My brother in law and his wife arrived 2 1/2 hours after us and no one was at the front desk. We called about the fridge again and told the clerk that I had insulin that had to be refrigerated. His response was, "I can store it for you and get a new fridge in the morning." Do you think we got a new fridge...no! The breakfast was inadequate and usually not cooked throughly. The one feature we looked forward to was the indoor pool. It was so cloudy you could not see the bottom. No way was I going in that! Also my son tried to work out in the gym. The only thing that worked was the treadmill (one at least), everything else was broken. They closed the pool for repairs on Wednesday. Doubt they would repair the gym. This is a newer hotel and I cannot believe it is in this kind of shape. We checked out a day early because we couldn't handle it anymore and when we left on Thursday, the waffle fry and other debris was still in the elevator. read more

Excellent from the moment that I arrived, The manager Angie was amazing and what a nice and warm person. My room was awesome and the bed and pillows were so comfortable. The bathroom and other areas were super clean ( I didn't even have to gag once) I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. This is a hidden gem. The rest of the staff was so friendly and accommodating. Even the common areas were very clean..... then as if it couldn't get better FREE breakfast & WIFI, Wow! I give this place an A++. I called to book a two day getaway at this hotel as a Christmas gift for my daughter and soninlaw. The room and price were agreeable and I gave our credit card and total information and booked. We received confirmation almost immediately. Then we got a form saying it was message to be filled out and we were to re give all information already provided as well as f!don't and back copies of the visa card and driver's license scanned to them. Because we didn't feel st all comfortable with this my husband called to provide immediate payment rather than have our possible card mishandling. The general manager was extremely rude and told us the only way was his way and he canceled the reservation. Decent hotel, somewhat isolated from the downtown historic area, but close to the outlet malls, if that's your thing. Unlike the other room at the Holiday Inn Historic location, this one did not have a musty odor. Instead, we had a fridge that made groaning sounds, so I ended up unplugging it because I knew I would not be able to sleep with that noise. We had a partial view of the lake out back, a shower with nice granite walls, and cool air conditioning. Dunkin Donuts is right across, in case you miss the hotel's included breakfast cut-off time. The hotel shares the parking lot with the Quality Inn, so parking can become a challenge, something we found out the hard way on Memorial Day weekend. The older gentleman at the front desk was a real jerk! We asked him where we could park, he sighed and said "just park anywhere you can find" and when my friend reiterated that there were no spots available, he again sighed and said to park anywhere that would not block a fire truck coming to the entrance, if need be. We assumed he probably kept getting this question over and over, which made him cranky, but that's not our fault and he should have made more of an effort to be hospitable toward the hotel guests. The maid service was efficient, knocking on the door early, and wanting to come in and make the bed. Towels were changed, and they brought refills of lotion, shampoo, and conditioner, even though we had plenty left (and had not even opened the bottle of lotion). There was just one thing that bothered me about the maid service: when we came up from the lobby and told the maid in the hallway that we forgot the key inside the room, she quickly used her universal room key to let us in. At no point did she verify we were the actual guests of that room, meaning that we could actually have been thieves that came up with this excuse to get into someone else's room and rob them, and then what? They may want to retrain their staff on proper security protocol, before they end up with a lawsuit in their hands. We were in town to see the Christmas lights and found this reasonably priced hotel. I wasn't sure what to really expect but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a new hotel and the rooms are spacious, nice big bathrooms with granite counter tops etc. The staff was very nice. The kids liked the indoor pool. The free breakfast was great. They had eggs, sausage gravy, bacon, cereal, fruit, fresh made pancakes, juices, bagels etc. Something like that would have cost a family of 4 at least $40 at a casual restaurant so it was awesome to just go downstairs and enjoy it. I would recommend this hotel to you if you are looking for a nice casual hotel. I will go back next time I am in town. read more

Our recent stay was very much enjoyed. Check-in: pleasant, quick and professional. Rooms: spacious, very clean, large bathroom. Bed was firm (quality), sheets crisp & clean. Bathroom had lots of soft towels, and well laid out. Carpets clean and in excellent condition. We made of the use of the guest laundry. All machines were $2.00 each so stock up on your quarters. VERY clean with no lint anywhere. Complimentary breakfast: large room with a great variety of foods; french toast, scrambled & hard boiled eggs, sausages/biscuits/gravy, oatmeal, cinamon rolls, and assorted cereals. Coffee was fresh. Room attendent was very attention oriented by ensuring everything remained clean & stocked. Check out quick & efficient - just drop off the keys as you walk out the door. I've stayed here twice so far. I switched to IHG Rewards 2 years ago to get points with another hotel group, therefore, I stay at a lot of HI Express properties as a business traveler. With that said, I recommend this location. It is easily accessible from I-95, check-in is a breeze, the staff is friendly, and though near a highway, it is very quiet. My rooms have been acceptable. The only downfall is that the parking layout is difficult and if you arrive late you may not find a spot. The local restaurants are your typical interstate-style fast-food establishments, however there is a Publix a few miles down the road in both directions, and both are in shopping centers with other healthier food choices. read more

Worst stay we ever had! We arrived Monday afternoon and checked in and checked out Saturday morning. The shower was broken in our room. we reported it and they did nothing. our room was not cleaned Wednesday-Saturday, we reported it every day and requested to speak to the manager. Not only did they not fix it, they lied and said we never called! The free breakfast they offer is also a joke, there wasn't anything available Wednesday-Saturday and they blamed this on the truck not coming in. Since they would not clean our room our floors were dirty and not vacuumed, trash cans were overflowin, wet towels (when they even had towels) were on the floor all week! We called the hotel who refused to make it right, called Corporate who called the hotel and they lied through their teeth about everything, and Hotwire would not help us! So I paid about $700 in prime time season for something that wasn't better than a damn motel 6! read more
