The Holiday Inn Manitowoc exceeded our expectations; we had a family member in the hospital, and we needed a hotel that was nearby. General - We stayed here for three nights for a family trip touring the Manitowoc, WI area. We wanted something close to town and the highway that offered a hot tub and pool and allowed our dogs to stay with us. Location - This place is right off the highway and only a short drive to downtown and the lake. You have a large variety of restaurants close by as well as shopping, either for essentials, food, or knickknacks. Rooms & Building - The building shows some wear and tear but it is in pretty good shape for it's age. I think the architecture was pretty cool, beats a boring square box building that most places have now become. Large parking lot with plenty of parking spaces available, never had a issue finding a spot. If you are hauling a trailer or RV, this would be a great place to stay and park. Rooms are very spacious and offered a sitting area even in a room with two queen sized beds. A mini fridge and microwave are included. I do want to mention the furniture because it seems people have issues with it. They are not old. The design is older fashioned but the ones in our room looked practically new (and were comfy). I mean I guess certain colors and fabrics are not always in vogue but I care more if it is working, functional and clean than looking "in". Amenities - This hotel is almost like a resort! Large heated pool (love that) and large hot tub which included some of the most generous pool hours I have ever seen at a hotel (open till 1 a.m.)! There is a movie room that plays two different movies throughout the day, well stocked gym in the basement, and a restaurant and bar that hosts live music and nightly specials. Food - We didn't try the restaurant or bar while staying here but the couple of folks we talked to in the hot tub ate exclusively there and said they liked it. We did get breakfast every morning in the breakfast lounge (included with our stay but not complimentary) and it was OK. Some of the items were cold/stale if they sat for too long but staff kept most of the items fresh and hot. Vibe - Easy going and super friendly staff. Like I said above, the hotel is a little older but it has been kept in great shape. No complaints. I'm not sure why this place has so many complaints when I first looked but reading through a few, it seems like more personal issues than actually experiences while staying at the hotel. Reality vs. Online - Pictures that I saw on their website and online matched the quality and condition of the hotel and rooms in-person. No surprises. We enjoyed the amenities and our stay. Price & Final Verdict - I got this place for a great price - $125 a night and that included a buffet breakfast each morning and my dogs staying in our room. An amazing value when compared to the experience we enjoyed. If we are ever in this neck of the woods again, I would gladly book again. read more

One of the Most Disappointing Hotel Stays I've Ever Had! (Zero Stars) I spent four nights at this Holiday Inn and honestly, I couldn't wait to leave. From the moment I walked into my room, there was a weird smell I just couldn't get rid of. The carpet, walls, and couch all looked like they belonged in the 80s -- worn, faded, and in desperate need of an update. The bathroom was the worst part: a yellowed toilet seat, black mold along the tub, and even a rusty nail sticking out where a shower bracket should have been. Definitely not what I expected when booking through a major hotel brand. Housekeeping? Didn't happen. I had the "Do Not Disturb" sign up the first night, but it was off the rest of the time, and no one ever came by to tidy up or replace towels. Breakfast was $7.99, and I still regret it -- pre-made eggs, dried-out sausage, and potatoes so undercooked they were still hard. Later, we tried the bar, and while the young man working was friendly, he was the only one there -- taking orders, making drinks, and cooking. Over the days, the menu kept shrinking because they kept "running out" of items. The coffee bistro wasn't much better... no one actually runs it, so sometimes there was no coffee, sometimes it was burnt, and once I was told, "Sorry, we don't have any cups." The gym was in the basement, dark and depressing, with machines that barely worked and an empty water dispenser. Service was hit-or-miss, but mostly a miss. Over three different meals, I averaged a 28-minute wait. A coworker of mine asked about his points not applying to his account and was met with a curt "I can't help you." The online photos make this place look way better than it really is. Between the outdated rooms, poor maintenance, lack of service, and disappointing food, I can't recommend this place to anyone. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. I took photos of the room, but even they don't fully show how bad it was -- the lighting is terrible, just like the overall atmosphere. read more

This review is not due to a personal vendetta, but a wary caution to anyone applying for a job at Holiday Inn Manitowoc. No employees will be named. I do not recommend working for this current manager, I was laid off on Saturday due to justifiable reasons, I couldn't keep up with the system they use and due to too many mistakes I was told to find another job. Not a bad reason I completely understand. But what made me lose respect for this meeting was when they brought up the information of another employee who I happen to be dating, mentioning the reason they laid him off. And went into personal information that wasn't my business to know. Whether they are facts or suspicions is irrelevant. Sadly there were no other witnesses other than the GM And a witness to my mistakes. and before dismissing me they turned to each as if I were not in the room and the GM asked the witness off handedly, "should we give her relational advice?" Then the GM purceeded to tell me personal information about my fiancee. I told my fiance about this incident and he said they never mentioned that information to him in person. He and I aren't even married and the GM thought it would be for my benefit to be concerned about someone else's personal life. This is a clear HIPPA violation. I will not be taking this comment down for the sake of other person's future information might be compromised. Though they are hospitable to the guests, and have good accommodations, I don't recommend working for this hotel. read more

The hotel smells of something gross and mildew and probably old cigarettes. Old ugly tweed couch in the room that I don't even want to touch. Shower is dangerously slippery even with the bath mat. Every thing about this place is tired and needs better ventilation, it's a miss. read more

Stayed for one night, overall a clean and comfortable stay! We got a great deal, one room with two double beds. The room and hotel are loaded with amenities, from a hot tub to a boardroom to a self-playing piano in the lobby. My pictures do a better justice of showing off the many things they offer. It would be an ideal place to host a business conference or family reunion. Having to wake up very early the next morning, we were grateful for comfy bed, pillows, and free 24-hour brewed Starbucks coffee in the lobby. They had granola bars and small snacks available for purchase as well. Continental breakfast starts at 7, I was surprised by the large variety of options. There's also a lot of dining options within a minute drive. Front desk and employees were friendly, check-in & out was easy. Whether you're in Manitowoc for one night or an extended stay, this is a great place to check out. read more

During our annual summer trip to Wisconsin my husband and I wanted to return to Sheboygan because we enjoyed the area so much last year. The hotels we were considering at our previous location were all in the range of $300 plus a night. Not the price range we wanted considering it was almost double what we paid around the same time last year. That is how we ended up at the Manitowoc Holiday Inn. Our overall experience was really good. The common areas of the hotel were clean. Most important our room was neat and clean. Each day we were given new towels and the trash was removed. I make my own bed. (That's a me thing.) It was always quiet even with our room located off the elevator. The hotel appeared to be a central location for people who were working various trades in the area. During our three nights we enjoyed meeting new and entertaining individuals at the bar as I sipped my glass of wine and my husband enjoyed his Kentucky bourbon of choice. My guess is this hotel was built in the 70's or 80's. This fact does not bother me. The architecture and layout reminded me of my travels as a child when large open atriums and glass elevators made me "ooh and aah". It appears they have tried to modernize their decor a number of years back when the trend was darker colors not the white and bright as is the current trend. read more

This place is Wonderful!! Don't look to close into negative reviews. We stayed with a group for a near-by concert and the staff went above & beyond!! Gary, Adam, Dawn, Abigail and the rest there are top notch! Hotel is clean and very spacious! They even had a pop-up movie theater playing 24/7. WiFi was clean and only kicked me off after a few hours, but that's not a bad thing for security reasons. Adam, the bartender in the lounge, was outstanding and went out of his way to make sure we had a nightcap. Bottom line .. give this hotel a try!! You'll probably run into one of these great people I mentioned. read more

This will be a long review, because I want to share a disturbing incident at the Holiday Inn in Manitowoc, WI. We checked in on Wednesday, March 29, for four nights. The first two nights went without incident--we both took baths. On Friday, March 31, the night manager knocked on our door and asked if there was water on the floor of our bathroom, since (she said) water was streaming into the room below. We said no, and that was all that night. The following night, Saturday, April 1, the night manager said there was still water streaming in the room below, and was there water on the floor. Again, no. She said the maintenance man would have to look at the bathroom. I replied that my wife was in the bathtub, and would be out soon. She left. The maintenance man appeared some seven minutes later and demanded immediate access. I said no, my wife was still in the bathroom. He threatened that if he did not immediately inspect the bathroom, we would be billed for all damage to the room below. There is a right to privacy in hotel rooms, as determined by the Supreme Court [Stoner v. California 376 U.S. 483 (1969)]. After my wife finished in the bathroom, I went down to the lobby and met the night manager, the general manager, and the maintenance man. I said my wife was done and they could inspect the bathroom. I asked why nothing was done all day that Saturday, when we were gone, to test the plumbing. The general manager and maintenance man conferred in the bathroom and when they came out claimed that the grout was wet--not that there was standing water--and ignored the fact that the bathmat was barely damp--hence they were trying to blame us for the leak below. The general manager then informed me that we would have to check out -- at 10:15 at night, with no reservations elsewhere. I pointed out that I was 73 years old and would have to haul our belongings out and that we were going to check out the next day. The manager said he would consider it and call the room. 20 minutes later he knocked on our door, and magnamaniously allowed us to stay if I swore I would not take a shower; I had already said I would not. He also told me not to come down to the lobby. I have never, never, been treated so shabbily and rudely by hotel staff, and I've traveled a lot. I expected to be offered a different room, or a discount on the bill--not to be threatened with a repair bill or immediate expulsion. I will never stay at a Holiday Inn again. read more

I chose this hotel based on location, my corporate account and my participation in the IHG Rewards program although none of these obligates me to stay at IHG properties, but a few recommendations from business associates convinced me this was the right choice. The check in process was painless my reservation was waiting upon my arrival as well a upgrade to a interior balcony suite on the third floor over looking the atrium. I found the room spacious, clean, well lit with plenty of electrical outlets and a great space to work. The staff here was extremely friendly and accommodating providing everything needed that made this a pleasant stay. Among the amenities here is a restaurant and bar, a Starbucks (actually it's what I call a Starbucks reproduction and closes each day at 9:00 AM). They also offer free parking, a game room, business centre, guest laundry, pool and hot tub as well as a fitness center. The free wifi worked flawlessly and actually had decent speed. The room was made up early each day and the checkout process was simple and the billing was accurate. Although I didn't spend anytime in the restaurant except to grab a steak salad to go which was excellent, it did seem to be a very nice restaurant and bar with a great staff as well. Do not stay here!!! It is not safe!!! Approximately 2 weeks ago, while I was sleeping, a man accessed my hotel room with a key. As a female alone, this traumatized me and scared me more than I can explain in words. I am so lucky I was not sexually assaulted or otherwise harmed. The phone in the room did not work. I had a cell phone to call the front desk. However, they tried to hide it and lie about what happened; claiming they had no idea what was going on. To this day I have no answer or accountability from the hotel & they are ghosting me; no one will respond to emails or phone calls or even social media request to address the situation. The day manager had a terrible "it's a computer glitch" excuse, which didn't make any sense. I also filed a police report. What are they hiding? The managing partner/owner of this place will not respond to email, his voicemail is full so you can't leave a message. The morning I checked out, a man was so intoxicated in the elevator I could tell he had soiled his pants, looked homeless but had a key to a room. It is really too bad a Holiday Inn has succumb to being the equivalent to a rundown Motel 6. read more

Staters I'm in my mid 40's checking into a hotel my husband and I should not require 100 questions as to why I'm renting a hotel room 3 hours from home, I also should not have to explain where exactly I live and why I'm renting a room. I can understand if I were a younger kid but the 100 questions as to why I'm renting a room for the weekend and personal questions were uncalled for. Second the breakfast I paid extra to have was beyond disgusting and disappointing (go to McDonald's way better) plus at McDonald's you may not have the Spanish speaking staff talking crap about everyone in the room. Imagine that the white lady speaks Spanish and understood the rude remarks being made. Brush up on your Spanish before your stay and be sure to have a good reason to stay at their hotel. read more

The Holiday Inn Express was the host of the 2018 Open Air Classic. It was a wonderful venue for entertaining 400 people for 3 days. The first day they held our checkin in a salon that had an adjoining bar area perfect for friends to gather and catch up. We also had a buffet dinner that was delicious and very complete. We met up again on Friday night for entertainment that was well received, and had a closing ceremony on Sunday. Staff were exceptional and did a marvelous job with the buffet dinner. Never again. If possible I would give negative stars. When I tried to get my bill at check out I stood at the desk, rang the bell, even called the hotel, no one ever came. I needed the bill for an expense report. I left a note asking to be contacted and never got a response. I was never informed there was a guest reception in the atrium, only found that out after I left. No microwave...no microwave....no microwave Hot tub had a slime line at water level. Windows had cob webs in corners. Chaise lounges were tattered. IHG properties are always my first choice but never again in Manitowoc. My work trip got extended and I went to the trouble to move to another hotel in the area. read more

We stayed at Holiday Inn in Manitowoc July 14, '17. As always, we were greeted very nicely and everything in line when we got there. I did a reservation and stay on my points. They were very accommodating as always. We arrived late so we were tired. Upon getting up in the morning and going to a family reunion we walked out through the lobby and Dave the Clerk on duty recognized me and said I seen you were staying here. How is it going? I've stayed here before and know pretty many of the staff and they still remember. We had a nice chat before we headed out. We had our dog with us and they are pet friendly hotel and always treat pets with respect as they were humans. The hotel was being remodeled the last time I stayed and is complete now and looks and feels stunning. I know things happen when you travel, but if they can make it right they will. We had no issues with our room which was very comfortable. The two star review is due to the lack of precautions we noted for guests & staff during the COVID pandemic. Check in staff are not wearing masks and no physical distancing precautions implemented in the lobby or pool areas. Pool/hot tub was overcrowded as was the lobby posing a risk to guests checking in & staff during the course time of their work. Simple changes could lead to a safer environment for all. read more

We (family and puppy)stopped here on a trip down from the U.P. I gotta day this is a great place. Excellent amenities, very clean and nicely appointed rooms. So yeah we had our dog and the staff was really great about accommodating us. They set us up on the first floor, near an entrance and even had baggies if we needed them. Stayed here while we were in town for the Maritime Marathon. Price was awesome and they even offered late check out for the event. Front desk was super nice. The room was super clean. Bringing my dog with me was not an issue. It required a deposit, which was refunded as soon as they inspected the room for any damage before checking out. They even gave me a first floor room to make dog walking less of hassle. I will say that the only weird thing was that they did not have a microwave in the room for us. I inquired about it and the woman at the front desk said they're usually reserved for long term guests. They did however offer to microwave my oatmeal in the morning before the race, which was fine since our room was close to the desk. read more

They have a no gun policy never have seen that at a hotel ever Restaurant ran a buffet style breakfast over the weekend that was Garbage. Housekeeping cleaned our room as a stay over and did not vacuum the floors did not clean this syncs all they did was give us fresh towels and try and remake our Beds. If I even tried to describe the weekend we just spent at the Holiday Inn Manitowoc you wouldn't believe it. It can only be described as a calamity. If it could go bad , it did. Issue 1 - Ice cold pool. Issue 2- cold "hot tub" with too much cleaning foam Issue 3- drunk bartender in the bar that was 30 minutes late to work- we know this because he was also staying in the hotel and the cook had to go wake him up. There was no cash for the bartender to collect our cash. We came back 90 minutes later and he still didn't have cash to ring us up. Issue 4- clearly had a do not disturb sign on our door and yet housekeeping knocked and walked in to proceed to clean. Thankfully we were in the room to stop him. When this was reported to the manager she simple stated oh I am sorry. Maybe there was a language issue. Issue 4- breakfast buffet in the morning was iced cold. Issue 5- relative staying in another room had someone come in, clean out his room and pack his things when he still had another nights stay. When asked to look in the room for missing personal items was told they couldn't go in the room with our permission of the current occupant Issue 6 - my mother, also staying at the hotel, walked into the public bathroom and walked in on someone without stall door closed and she said oh sorry, I live in the hotel and forget other people may walk in Issue 6 - wedding reception we were there for were served cold food when it was available- mostly stood waiting for staff to refill food Issue 7- snowed the night before the wedding reception and no one plowed or shoveled Issue 8 - family buffet breakfast was empty of food 15 minutes after it was set to be available for all of us These issues do not begin to cover things like dead pointsetias in the lobby, brown bananas left for guest, computer issues that caused all guests to not have keys that worked to their rooms and many other small details. While trying to formulate a response to the disaster that this Holiday Inn is the only thing I can come up with is I would still never ever recommend or stay here again. Not spectacular, but not terrible. The person at the front desk was friendly but slooooow checking us in. My business partner booked us over the phone through the main Holiday Inn hotline. He was told that we each got a free breakfast voucher, but the front desk showed no record of it. He (my business partner) eventually got it cleared up by calling the main hotline again. The room was nice, bed was comfortable, bathroom was great! However, it's one of those weird hotels where the interior rooms have a view of the lobby with basically no natural light. I'd rather look out the window and see I-43 than the lobby and the rooms across the atrium, but that's what I got and I just kept the curtains closed. Breakfast was another story. Since we got our hard-earned breakfast vouchers, we made our way down the hall to the dining area in the morning. The hostess, who seemed incredibly flustered and unhappy to have customers, asked us if we wanted to order off the menu or eat at the buffet. Now, we didn't know what was on the menu or on the buffet, so we asked if we could be seated and then decide. Wrong answer, apparently. She snapped back, "Well, pick one because I need to know whether or not to give you menus." Here's a thought: seat us with the menus, give us a minute to look at them and check out the buffet, and then we'll decide. The actual server was very nice, and the food was about what you'd expect at a Holiday Inn. I'd probably stay here again if passing though there area because there aren't a whole lot of other options, but I'd definitely ask for a room with an exterior view! read more

I'm very happy to report that we stayed there last night, and the room was spotless. The bed was clean & comfortable & the bathroom was pristine. One STAR is 2 much. Checked in after a 15 hr work day. It's a Sunday and 7:45 pm. Since I'm a IHG Platinum Elite member (which means crap at a full service Holiday Inn) I think a little respect is called for. I asked for an upgrade and was told no problem, Oh but the suite isn't clean. So no upgrade. Ok went to my room and washed up to go to there restaurant to get a bite to eat. Walked in at 8pm and was told they were closed. CLOSED I SAID, it's only 8pm. Yes, we close at 8 on Sundays. OK so I guess I'm screwed. Not really, as pissed as I am I walked to Perkins across the street. Decent in a pinch. Food was better than expected. The rugs in the hallway have been washed so much that they are bunched up. The faucets in the bathrooms are 30 years old. This place needs a makeover, and I mean a MAKEOVER. Can't wait for IHG to send me there survey for this joint. read more

Newly renovated nice hotel. When approaching the Holiday Inn in Manitowoc I had low expectations however after entering you will find a newly renovated hotel. Rooms and lobby have received nice updates. My only major complaint is no free breakfast and the hotel restraunt is not very great :( read more

Hotel room seemed clean and was comfortable. Hot tub had some weird slime on the tiles which I think was from whatever they add to the water to make it have more bubbles when the jets are on. No directory in the room, kept having to google the hotel to get information about room service, pool times, breakfast etc. website states breakfast in the attached restaurant, no notice there was no breakfast being served while we were there but they had a few pastries some Gatorade and water, no toaster, milk, etc. ended up walking next door during a snow storm to get breakfast for my kid. read more

The room was very clean and roomy. The bathroom was spotless. I ordered room service the first night and the food was great! I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Was at this location for a wedding. Could not believe bar very disorganized, the lack of items even sour soda, booze they had someone run out for. Was to be a plated meal that was changed to a buffet. Chicken cordon not hot not cooked all the way, servers in buffet line did not have masks on. The workers who where there were running around like crazy . But just not staffed for a event like this. I don't post very often but if I could have given it a negative one I would have. No one directing tables to go to buffet line. So dj did for a little while then people just started to go on there own. I was given an early check-in which was great, upon entry into the room it smelled like someone had been smoking. My boyfriend and I had some obligations so we left for the entire day and hoped that maybe it was just a smoke smell from the hallway or vent that had drifted in. We were wrong, we got back to our room about 10 hours later and it smelled just as bad as before. We called the front desk and maintenance and they both arrived and said it was probably just a previous customer and they could spray something. We declined and just sucked it up for the night. The next day as we were packing, I must have misplaced a white blazer of mine and once we got the 90+ miles home and unpacked, I knew instantly knew it was missing. I remember deciding if I wanted to wear it and decided no, I put it on the bed. In the midst of the white sheets, I forgot it. After multiple attempts of calling the hotel and being sent to housekeeping and leaving messages, I received no responses. I finally had to send and email to corporate about the missing blazer. Shortly after I received an email stating that the front desk check with housekeeping and no white, blazer was found. It's unfortunate that I can't accidentally forget something and have it never seen again. read more

The rooms are okay but a bit dated. Returned to the hotel after many childhood visits to find it totally renovated. Even a new pool. Staff was very nice, came running to open the doors for us. We recently stayed here with a large group of people. The lobby was a great place to entertain and wind down for the evening. We really enjoyed our patio off the room. What was really a drag and did not make for a nice stay was the lack of Housekeeping services. Our beds were NEVER made nor were the linens changed. We barely got fresh towels on a daily basis. Our room surfaces were not cleaned, nor was the carpet vacuumed!! The clerk at the check in desk was a bit unstable and fragile. We never saw any other clerks at the desk....The breakfast buffet was less than average for the price. The pool and hot tub area were nice to relax in. Overall, food and housekeeping need more attention!! The patio and lobby atmosphere improved the review of this hotel. Would consider staying at another location if the housekeeping services remain the same. (Found hair in our bathtub drain, soap on the shower wall, lack of vacuuming...for 4 + days). read more

I stayed the weekend here and I have mixed reviews. First and foremost the bartender CJ was wonderful! He was personable and hard working. Although the bar was understaffed for the wedding that we were attending, CJ still was pleasant and got drinks quick. Our check in was a little botchy... I am somewhat of a critic when staying in hotels because I too work in hotels and have for 15 years. Sabrina checked us in. She mentioned that she had only worked the FD for "about 45 days". As being a former FOM it is clear that she has a great personality but is in desperate need of training. Our room type was not confirmed, no directions to the room. She also had no idea how many rooms total were in the hotel. The whole check in appeared as she was fumbling through the system. She did let us know that there was a prom going on, however she may have been told to do so on all 2 night check ins during her pre-shift. I am not quite sure about all of the points that need to be mentioned when checking in, but I do know that it was the least informative check in I have ever had. In my opinion it seems that she should still be shadowing a strong agent. Other than that the hotel itself was fine. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean. I would just suggest staffing appropriately and focusing a little more on brand standard training. read more
