There is ample parking. It seems that the baseball diamonds are under construction, but there is LOTS of additional field space available. There is also a newer playground and a few basketball courts at the back of the park.

I think the past few weeks we've gone, the sink in the women's bathroom has not worked. And the handicap stall is extremely hard to close. It also doesn't have a lock. The kids normally have baseball practice twice a week. This allows me to walk around the park for the hour. I wish the path went the full length of the park. It's hard to jog in the grass here. And it would be nice if there was more workout apparatus. There is a kind of elliptical machine, and bars to do dips and pushups. Parking isn't bad, they have a good amount of spaces.

That's all they said..."just come the next day". All that they said. So we came the next day and an hour before closing time because that's also what it says on the information pamphlet. We came the next day. They said that the shelter we wanted was already taken because it was "first come first serve"...we weren't given that information!!! We were never told that it was first COME FIRST SERVE. All they said was that "we can come tomorrow", if we were given that information then OF COURSR IT WOULD MAKE SENSE FOR US TO BE THERE EARLY. This type of information of "first come first serve" is important to give to individuals. If you know that shelter is popular. So I'm telling you this so it doesn't happen to other individuals...if you want a shelter, it's first come first serve.

My entire month of July was spent here with my community, and I loved every single minute of it.The concerts start at 7:00 p.m., but I was always the first one there since I live the closest. I'd show up with my folding chairs, claim a big spot, spread out blankets, and save plenty of room for everyone. Then I'd wait for my friends to arrive. You know the evening is officially about to begin when they play Downey's official city song! I had no idea Downey even had a song, but it's absolutely adorable and always puts everyone in a great mood.Our final concert was extra special--we had a grand total of 22 people at our little gathering! Every week turned into a giant community potluck with everyone bringing something delicious to share. One weekend my friends even surprised me with a birthday party, complete with a decorated table and cake. It made me feel so loved, and it's a memory I'll treasure forever.There's something so peaceful about sitting on a blanket, listening to live music, chatting with friends, and watching the sun slowly set over the park. It's a reminder that some of the best nights don't have to be expensive--they just need good people and good music.The concession stand offered the basics--hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, pie, and drinks. I do wish there were a few more food options, but maybe that's something they can expand on next year. Before the concerts, there were booths from local businesses like Lazy Dog, the Downey Theatre, dental offices, and other community organizations offering fun giveaways, games, and raffle prizes. We never won the raffle tree, but we sure had fun trying every week!One of my favorite parts was running into so many familiar faces. It truly felt like the entire community came together to enjoy summer evenings at the park.The only downside? July is over way too fast! I wish the concert series lasted longer because one month just isn't enough.Thank you to everyone who makes these concerts happen each year. Until next summer...

The reasoning for the poor rating is very simple, there seems to always be a vagrant or two which is a public safety and health concern in my opinion. Should you want to feel safe then I suggest go to neighboring cities or perhaps up the street to Wilderness Park in Downey where they seem to care about safety. Too bad for this park as its in a great neighborhood but vagrants are starting to call this park home.

This is my childhood park!…read more Although it was always a sketchy park with high school students, college students, and adults always coming here to smoke and do extracurricular activities, it definitely has its perks. First off, it was walking distance to my house and a lot of my neighborhood friend's houses. We would come here after school and chill and hang out until sunset. We'd do this every weekday and would never get bored. Before the protective layering was added, the jungle gym was on a bed of sand. When I was in elementary school, my friends and I would get water from the fountain and make water falls from the slide after making a sand castle at the bottom of the slide. One time we found a crow and decided we should bury it super deep and dig up the bones years later. We also thought it would be dope to do a time capsule type of thing and wrote a letter and put it in a Tic Tac case and buried it super deep. Well skip a few years and they add the soft layer on top of the sand! So long crow bones and hidden note! Besides that we would play football, kickball, kick ball, and baseball on the field. We flew kites when it was windy and played with Stomp Rockets as well. We held fight clubs there and play Body Shots and Dead Arm. On the court we would play basketball games of 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 21, Horse, and Knock Out or Lightning. We also would skate and do tricks past the half court line. Too many good memories here.
