There are normal covid precautions you should take, but you are reminded before you arrive for your appointment. I have been coming to see Makamae specifically, for a few years now. Each visit has been exactly as expected. Makamae is professional and great at communicating to ensure you are well taken care of. She will ask and check-in to make sure you get the most out of your visit. Because of this, I don't go to any other place for my massages. Makamae knows how to mālama (take care) and I am always very grateful. Today, my most current visit, I didn't realize how tense and knotted up I was. Makamae found these spots and targeted them for me when I asked her to. She's very accommodating to your needs, She assists you with managing and maintaining your body by giving you advice on what you need to do daily to care for your body. She is very sincere with you and she cares about your concerns in regards to your body's needs. I go for a 90 minute session once a month for maintenance. I've never been disappointed. Makamae is great! I've been going here since the beginning of the year. I decided to give it try based on the yelp reviews. I personally like a lot of pressure. Deep tissue is where it's at, otherwise I'd sit in one of those massage chairs you find at the mall. She is able to deliver appropriate pressure and can adjust based on your feedback. I had an appointment cancelled on the same day somewhere else and so I reached out to see if there was any availability for the weekend. I know she's booked pretty well in advance, so I didn't get my hopes up. But she was able to rearrange a few things and schedule me two days later! I went with the 90 minute option. To my surprise there's currently a $75 special going on. It may have always been there because I usually go with just an hour. She does a really good job at focusing on your trouble spots. The place may be hard to find at first. Head towards the parking lot behind goodwill. The office is towards the diamond head corner. The sign says Leeward Massage Therapy. Walk in, don't worry if no one greets you...they know you're there. The place is no frills, but it's clean, and to me that's what matters most. read more

When I made that first appt, she asked what kind of massage I wanted, explained to her a newbie at this and help me along. Got to her shop, she said to take as much clothes off as I'm comfortable with lay face down and cover up with the sheet. She washed her hands and returned, asked what's the problem area and I said none. Wrong, within 10 minutes she was asking me about why my outside leg and feet muscles are all tight (running, I guess?) and "isn't your neck sore?" (not more than normal!). She continued with a very relaxing massage, while we had a very educational discussion on my problem areas and what I could do about them. Left feeling all warm and tingly with another appt in 2 weeks. Next appt, I asked her to go hard and let's loosen these problem muscles (results oriented kind of guy). She was reluctant but I kept asking, things turned from relaxing to hurts like heck (what did I get myself into?). It wasn't just brute force, it was a technique to loosen, lengthen and break up muscle adhesions. Yeah that's it! I think my okole checks took a bite out of the sheet, but I didn't cry uncle. The next day, I felt like my skin was sunburn, but my feet felt great after my run, and I could turn my head much further than normal. Things only got better with each appt. I no longer have to put my right arm behind the passenger seat and torque my head over to back up my car! Kinda concerned that my head might rotate 360 but she said not to worry! I was rear ended in Oct 2016. Went to see Makamae for 10 massage treatments for a pinch nerve at base of neck and shoulder injuries. She was friendly and my first treatment was great. Despite Makamae's ability as a good massage therapist, I do have several concerns that I wanted to share with others thinking of going to see her. As our massage therapy sessions progressed, majority of the time her appointments ran late. Not sure if it was because she was late getting to the office which happened a few times, or because of how she scheduled her massages which didn't allow any time to change the sheets or to check her cell messages. In addition, Makamae was frequently distracted using her cell and texting during my massages which I felt was very unprofessional. When I raised my concerns to her, she apologized but said because they don't have a receptionist, she has to be responsive to all her clients which involved her doing quick auto text replies during my massages. One day, she stopped in the middle of my massage to sell a gift certificate to a customer who walked into the office. I've been to other massage therapists and never have I ever experienced such such distractions and interruptions during my massage sessions. Because of these reasons, I notified my insurance carrier and have decided to look for another massage therapist who will be able to focus on my massages to help me, without any distractions or interruptions. read more

I have been suffering with chronic lower back pain and minimal range of motion in my neck. I had been asking around for a massage therapist and researching via google for months. I decided to give Holistic Therapies & Massage a try and that was the best decision I have made for myself. I was nervous and anxious when I got there but within the first minute Makamae made me feel so comfortable. As this was my first massage she instructed me to take off as much clothes as I am comfortable with and to lay on the table while she stepped out to give me privacy. Makamae inquired as to what kind of massage I wanted. As I informed her about my chronic pain I left it up to her as to what massage would be best. She instructed me to let her know should the pressure be too much for me. She started the massage with just the right pressure and when she got to my problem areas she worked really hard at breaking up those tense spots. She massaged and stretched those areas, which at moments, I wanted to cry (but I didn't say anything to her) because I trusted her and wanted to get the pain alleviated. Which is exactly what she did! I felt a little sore the next 2 days but was amazed that I could turn my neck and actually sit and stand without wincing.
