We stayed here after 7 days sailing on a Catamaran. My friend has been to sxm many times and we chose holland house based on recommendations from her jewelers who are located here. The food and amenities were great and walking up and down the boardwalk. As women traveling without male companions this felt like a safe choice. The service was great at the beach bar and restaurant but the service was lacking at front desk, during reservations, and the inside bar. Overall we'd stay again. This area of SXM is pretty low key at night. Great for shopping ,eating, and beach time. read more

The pro: Two of our meals were great. The drinks were delicious. Cons: Totally outweigh the pros. Unfortunately! The third meal - steak was undercooked. Took what seemed extra time to cook the same steak longer. Then comes to dessert- again 2/3 were great but the third person ordered a coffee and this came when we were done with the two other dessert dishes. Took very long. One person in the party forgot their phone. She went back and was treated so rudely. The person rolled her eyes and was very very reluctant to give back her phone. The unpleasant experience of this at a fine dining establishment between meal, dessert and treatment upon returning- really really disappointed!!!!! Sadly- we were excited to even try again but with staff grunting and rolling eyes. Nope! Not worth our $300 plus bill. read more

Had the absolute best time here during my brief stay in St Martin. Decided to book a Day pass and enjoyed the comfortable beach side loungers with a frozen drink in my hand. Super easy 20 minute walk from the cruise port and centrally located. Food was delicious as well and reasonably priced for an island. Would definitely return again read more

For the carnival season, this is an amazing location. It included breakfast for an upgraded price. Breakfast is made to order, but it is a specific item from specific boxes. I will say I was bored and went out for breakfast aster day 5. The checking process was frustrating because they tried to overcharge us by over $1000.00. When I said it was not the right price, the lady tried to say it was not. Luckily, I was able to log into my email to confirm that they were infact over charging. There is also a mass disparity between the rooms. When we booked I noted that we needed two double beds. I even called to ensure that we would have double beds. When we got there, they had given us one bed. We had to go back dowstairsir down the one elevator that only held 4 people, 2 if you had luggage. At first, they said they didn't know if they could accommodate the request. We also told we could request a microwave, but when we got there, it was not an option. The room also lack fire alarms and a working vent system in the bathroom. The beach is really well maintained, and they ensure that hotel guest have access to beach chair on the beach before the tourist arriving on the boats. The breakfast in the dinning and bar were so nice and helpful. read more

This hotel is amazing. I vacationed here with my kids and girlfriend. The rooms were nice, clean, and comfortable. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed. The location of the hotel is right, I mean right on the beach on the boardwalk. There are so many attractions within walking distance. The opportunities are the pool and the fact that beach umbrellas become scarce on cruise day, so reserve early. Great food. Great atmosphere. read more

Beautiful beach front hotel located on Frontsreet of Phillipsburg, Sint. Maarten. They have a delightful staff and gorgeous dining area to watch the beach. The food nothing short of delicious. I stopped by for lunch with friends while visiting family and enjoyed their Ocean Lounge Salad. A delicious and fresh combination of grilled shrimp, smoked salmon, tuna, tomato, red onion, egg, green beans and olives, together with their fabulous Spice 45 cocktail - Belvedere vodka, jalapenos, St. Germain and fruit punch. Must stop whether you arrive by boat or plane. read more

Some pros - Good music. Good service. Cons-Took long for my food to come despite it being empty in here. Says it's upscale dining. I'm the only person dressed up. Nice establishment otherwise. I may not return though for the long wait. Also, nice service from the staff who tried to do damage control by checking on me consistently. 3 stars because the music was great on a Friday night and the wait staff was great despite it being fairly empty. Otherwise I wouldn't call this upscale and I could've stayed in my brand new hotel to eat without spending taxi fare to drive here for the long wait. Wanted the beef short rib. It's not on the menu anymore. Ordered the small 8 oz tenderloin. It took over 45 mins for it to arrive. They ran out of mashed potatoes too. Fries were cooked well. The tenderloin was cooked nicely and the green beans were fresh. Thank goodness. The mango rum drink was tasty. read more

We visited Holland House restaurant after not getting into our first choice restaurant. The ambience is beautiful, so we were hoping for a great meal. Unfortunately we were disappointed. I ordered crab cakes on a Caesar salad. They got the order wrong, but corrected it fairly quickly. The salad was small, with a watery dressing without much taste. The crab cakes looked like they came out of a frozen package, certainly not made fresh in the kitchen. They were breaded and appeared deep fried. Pretty awful. My wife had salmon on the same Caesar salad. She was more forgiving and liked her dish. We will not be returning. read more

Picture it - you are walking down the boardwalk in beautiful St. Maarten. The ocean is on one side and this beautiful modern building - the Holland House Hotel is on the other side. It is super sleek with a wonderful outdoor patio and dining area. Then you see the sign - two beach chairs, an umbrella, and 4 drinks for $25USD. It sounds almost too good to be true. Did I mention this also includes use of their outdoor shower, washrooms, and internet?!? So the first time we stop by for lunch and Kecia was our bartender/waitress. She may be the most awesome person I have ever met! We had such a wonderful lunch and cocktails on their patio that we had to go back a second day to use their beach. Several beaches in St. Maarten are still struggling post hurricane, but not here! The staff was fantastic, the view was phenomenal, and the food/drinks are delicious. We had the perfect beach day followed by another great meal on the lower patio. It may seem too good to be true, but I promise - give it a try and say hello to Kecia for me!! read more

The hotel has a fantastic outdoor restaurant with exceptional service and a delicious menu. This is an outstanding hotel, an excellent restaurant and some extraordinary service staff for the most part. Unfortunately the overall experience is tainted by the spotty performance and attitude of the beach staff. This is particularly disappointing in a destination beach resort. The servers focused there attention on a large group from a cruise ship, clearly shooting for the big tip. We weren't in that group. We were ignored while they were fawned over, along with other non-guest chair renters. We went next door to serve ourselves out of necessity and this was not the experience we were expecting. We couldn't even get the staff's attention by hollaring and waving our arms. I won't go back. If you are going to St. Martin stay away from this beach by the cruise ship port. read more

My first Caribbean cruise I stumbled upon Holland House while trying to find a place that would rent a beach chair to a single cruiser as long as I was willing to share with someone else. Unlike a lot of the places they were happy to accommodate me and only charge me half of their 2 chairs rate. I remembered that, along with the great food and drinks, and when I next docked in St. Martin that was where I took my mom. Unfortunately my mom has walking issues and uses a scooter so the beach chairs were out but we did sit down on at the first level bar for some refreshments. Mom got a great dish of salmon tartar from the lunch menu and we had two mojitos. I took a dip in the ocean while she waited for her food and was able to find a little souvenir shop right outside the entry from the street. It was just like I remembered before the hurricane and I would certainly look them up as a hotel if I was to come to the island for a longer stay. I just noticed the address for this is completely wrong and I can't change it. It did show up on the map correctly when I checked in but it is most certainly not in New Jersey. Although I didn't get an opportunity to stay at the Holland House Hotel I did have dinner there and spent the day at the beach behind the hotel. First off the staff at Holland house were extremely helpful. I was staying at an Airbnb nearby and wanted to call a taxi and they were able to assist me with no hesitation. The food there is great too. For dinner I had a lobster pasta that was amazing then a warm chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert. You can also use their beach chairs and umbrellas for free as long as you buy food which I thought was awesome. If you plan on having a beach day definitely get the fish tacos. They are so fresh! On my next trip to St Maarten I would definitely love to stay at the hotel. read more

We arrived in Phillipsburg around 9am, which seemed to be just before most places opened - I'm guessing most of the cruise ship passengers arrive around 10am? We found the boardwalk quite nice to walk along and went in search of some breakfast. Again, not many places open, so we ended up eating here. It seemed like quite a nice atmosphere. As we weren't guests of the hotel we did check that we could pay cash for the breakfast buffet here, which wasn't an issue. We grabbed two seats and began waiting for some service - the menu listed coffee/tea as server items, and explained that in addition to the buffet you could order one entree. Time ticked by without anyone acknowledging us, so eventually we went up to the buffet and got some offerings. Really nothing special or great. Again, more time ticked by, as we watched two servers pretty much ignore the whole restaurant, but really ignore us. We debated skipping the entree, but at ~$20 a head, I wanted to at least get some money's worth, as again, the buffet was below par. Eventually a server came over and we were able to order tea and our entrees. Eggs Benedict and French Toast arrived soon after, both were adequate but nothing special. In retrospect, this place was gorgeous, and might have a nice lunch/dinner, but definitely skip for breakfast. read more

The appetizer calamari was sooo basic. Then the waiter comes and says my wife's Lobster roll was not available. My wife proceeds to order something else that she's told is not available. Something about waiting for a delivery. You would think with such a small menu they would give a disclaimer prior to seating. Needless to say we paid for the drinks and calamari and left. read more

OUTSTANDING! I stayed at the Holland House Beach Hotel recently while in Philipsburg on business. Having never stayed at this property before, I was a bit apprehensive about having an extended stay there. Those fears were quickly alleviated at checkin. The absolutely BEST part of staying at this hotel was, hands down, the employees. Although Sint Maarten is nickname "The Friendly Island", the staff at the Holland House exceeded even that high bar. To a fault, every person I interacted with at the Holland House, from the housekeeping staff, to the reservations and clerical staff to the bartenders (!!!) to the restaurant wait staff, all greeted me with a smile and a warm welcome. Even after overstaying my welcome at breakfast every day I was there, the staff cheerfully looked after my every need. The food in the restaurant and the bar was excellent, albeit a bit pricey. Their petit filet could be cut with a fork, something I have not seen outside of the steak houses along the Ginza in Tokyo. I spent one day down at the beach bar and watched the employees as they interacted with the cruise ship customers along the boardwalk. The staff treated each and every one of the seemingless never ending line of cruise ship passengers as if they were guests in the hotel. Even after their supply of beach chairs was exhausted, the staff continued to assist the guests in finding other accommodations among the other vendors along the boardwalk. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. There was a bit of construction taking place that some members of my group complained about. Given the fact that the island recently had a major hurricane strike, some rebuilding can certainly be expected. The manager promises that the reconstruction will soon be complete and the 24/7 serene tranquil atmosphere will return. In all, YES, I shall return, and TO THE OWNER(S), my congratulations in finding such wonderful employees! They sure made this long stay away from my family a bit more palatable. read more
