    Hotel next to pool
    Mr. S.

This place was destroyed back in 2017 hurricane and with it being backed with a big corporation I would have thought they would be more on top of contention. The time share rooms have been remodeled and looks great, the pool is still awesome but when you're at the pool it kind of seems like your surrounded by distraction. Going to a place like this you kind of want all inclusiveness like casino, restaurants but your left disappointed.

So, let's be clear.....this beautiful resort is located in St. Maarten in the Caribbean and not Michigan. St. Maarten is a Dutch owned island that is half Dutch and half French owned. The French side is St, Martin. St, Maarten/Martin have not fully jumped on the Yelp ball but their presence on Tripadvisor is #poppin' so please go check it out!!! It is called the friendliest island on the Caribbean and that is very true! (Also, my Aunt, who is WELL KNOWN on the island has an awesome taxi service! ;) Inbox me for info if you're planning on visiting!) Back to the Westin. I love staying here immensely! We go here every year and they will continue to get our service! We could probably get much more for cheaper at an airbnb but you just can't beat the service, friendliness, amenities, and the gorgeous views of the property, beach, and surrounding area. Let me be clear. This hotel is a good 30 minute drive from the airport and has steep hills which is common in the Caribbean. You will need to rent a vehicle ( very affordable) or take a taxi, which can run you $30 (US dollar) one way to your desired destination. Shopping and most restaurants require a taxi drive. The place is far away from most things but trust me when I say it is worth it!!! We had one of my aunt's Jeeps for transportation and gas was very affordable. We stayed in a suite with a King side bed in one room, queen size sofa bed in the other, large bathroom, kitchen w/ full size refrigerator and microwave, and a beautiful balcony with views of the beach on the third floor. Both rooms were designed to have their own temperature settings, which was nice. The beds were super comfortable! Linens were plush and I ended up forfeiting an hour in the sun each day to just catch up on sleep! The rooms were clean on arrival and staff made sure they were cleaned spotless every day. The bathroom had a large sink area, large shower, and also had a decent bathtub in it. The kitchen had plates and silverware and they provided free water daily. They also had different flavored waters and juices complimentary in the lobby which were delicious, refreshing, fresh, and not too sweet. The Westin has two restaurants, an inside bar, an outside bar, and an outside grill and snack bar which offers fries, chicken tenders, burgers, and sandwiches. The bar tenders are all friendly and personable and funny! They make strong drinks! Be wise to that! Obviously room service dining is available 24/7. They have a pool with plenty of chairs to sun bathe and waiter/waitress service. They offer free sun towels at the pool. They also have a casino in the lobby which is large but not an eye sore or distraction. I would love to gush over the staff! They are ALL fantastic, seriously!!! Amazing people with huge smiles who accomodated our every request in a timely manner. They really anticipated our needs so we didn't have many requests!! We "made it rain" on a few a little more because they went out of their way to anticipate our needs and learn our preferences. Some had remembered us over the years and I found that to be really special. A little caveat is that there is a timeshare company run out of there that is persistent in trying to get you to buy into the company. They offer typical free dinners or free ferry trip to St. Barts for couples only. Trust me when I say that if you gently, kindly, and firmly let them know you are in no way interested they will leave you alone. It shouldn't be a problem. I am looking forward to next year! Love this place!!!

The food and amenities were great and walking up and down the boardwalk. As women traveling without male companions this felt like a safe choice. The service was great at the beach bar and restaurant but the service was lacking at front desk, during reservations, and the inside bar. Overall we'd stay again. This area of SXM is pretty low key at night. Great for shopping ,eating, and beach time.

Took what seemed extra time to cook the same steak longer. Then comes to dessert- again 2/3 were great but the third person ordered a coffee and this came when we were done with the two other dessert dishes. Took very long. One person in the party forgot their phone. She went back and was treated so rudely. The person rolled her eyes and was very very reluctant to give back her phone. The unpleasant experience of this at a fine dining establishment between meal, dessert and treatment upon returning- really really disappointed!!!!! Sadly- we were excited to even try again but with staff grunting and rolling eyes. Nope! Not worth our $300 plus bill.

We went when it was spring break - young college students everywhere. The main pool on the family side was where all the activities were. The Adult side was more of a relaxing atmosphere. The food wasn't consistent especially at the Palm Beach Grill. The resort also had a popular grill spot by the pool on the Family side that served hot dogs and burgers. The other onsite restaurants were average. The best dining experience was the breakfast buffet, very organized and the staff served you. The drinks were super sweet, you have to ask the bartender not to add too much juice or soda. If you wanted a nice cocktail have your dollars ready and you can ask him to use the better quality alcohol and not the house brand. For some reason the lobby bar at most resorts prepares the best drinks - this is where I receive the best service along with the best drinks. We had an issue with our room and had to switch by the second day. I really did not like their customer service because they tried to convince us to stay in a room that wasn't up to standard. The first room had a foul odor coming up from the drainage, the shower head was broken and there were broken dresser drawers. They gave us a really hard time and tried to make it look like they were doing us a favor. We had to reach out to the corporate office after checking out. This isn't a bad resort and we would stay here again. It's located at a central location thats close to a lot of restaurants and attractions.

Room was beautiful. Viewed were amazing. The beach is nice, waves are a bit strong. Close to Simpson bay for bar hoping (they say maho village is the entertainment center but...naw, it's not). Sonesta rooms are better than Simpson bay rooms... Simpson bay has more activities and walkability at night. Thankfully it's close by. We rented from dollar rentals in the maho lobby and received free parking on site. It was so nice to have a car instead of paying drivers every time we needed to leave. Whether you're looking to party, chill, relax, sunbathe or be pampered with a personal Butler (check out the butler suite!!) sonesta is the place to lay your head and keep your group entertained at all times. Especially those who prefer to stay at the resort 24/7. For those who like to get out and about, it's close to Simpson bay and not too far from Marigot or Phillipsburg. If I came back with family, I'd stay here. If it was just me and hubby, we'd do an Airbnb.

The second bedroom bathroom had visible stains in the bathtub from the moment we walked in--but that was just the beginning. When we actually turned on the faucet, it ran brown water. Not "slightly off," not "maybe it's the pipes"--brown. Naturally, we checked the primary bathroom, hoping it was isolated. Unfortunately, the water there was also questionable, which raises serious concerns about overall water quality. To make matters worse, the floors throughout the unit were visibly dirty upon arrival, making it clear that basic cleaning standards were not met. The entire space felt neglected and not properly maintained. We documented everything with photos and videos because this situation was that concerning. This is not just about aesthetics--this is about health and safety. We will be vacating immediately and pursuing a full refund. I strongly recommend future guests think twice before booking, especially if you're assigned Room 55. Also, the front desk manager, Roslyn was not kind with our request to vacate the property and continues to say that we have to be charged to penalty of an extra night for leaving early. Very disappointing.
