This was a great campground! We've been traveling around Montana for a week and found this campground. It was only $20/night. The sites are spacious and several have a fantastic view of the lake. I sure hope (based on recent recommendations) that Christian found Jesus or something, because when we were there he flat out ruined our wedding experience. Some highlights: 1) Charged us a per-stem fee when asked if he could store 2 buckets of flowers in their walk-in overnight as we were doing our own flowers to save money. We could only afford a 35 person wedding and some of our guests couldn't afford to stay at the lodge so were next door in the campground. 2) About 10 minutes before our ceremony, I was sitting at the bar with a friend and my brothers, ordered a single drink. Christian made sure to swoop by and tell the server that what I ordered wasn't included in our drinks package and should be charged to my room. A friend said "No, I'll pay cash" in disgust. 3) Staff there seemed depressed, and at one point one of them pitifully informed us it was because working for him was such a nightmare. He was intentionally rude in the most spiteful ways and an angry person in general. Wrote some reviews that he somehow figured out how to get removed in other places, but he would respond to facts like these by accusing you of being mentally unstable. No, Christian, we're just not rich and maliciously bitter. I'm not writing this review because I'm mad at you, even - I just genuinely don't want other people to have their special day ruined because they weren't wealthy enough to make you happy. We weren't bridezillas or something - we planned a simple, small wedding with what budget we could and explained this early on in our only skype call, and there was maybe 4-5 emails exchanged after that. We tried to be exceedingly easy to work with because we knew we couldn't afford all the bells and whistles, and in exchange we felt punished for not being rich enough to enjoy our wedding at the lodge my wife got to play at as a child. read more

From the area originally and Holland Lake has always had a special place in my heart. Until my last visit, it has been my favorite place on this planet and have referred countless guests to stay. I have had fond memories of the owner, Christian. Back when he gave a rescued bobcat a home and he used to join us for a card game in the lodge. I had heard stories about how much it's changed from my local friends, recently visited myself and heartbroken to see its true. Before I could even say hello, Christian was aggressively shooing away myself and friends who were checking in. Needless to say, I was beyond embarrassed at their first impression after all my bragging. Being in the hospitality industry for 20 years and as Director of a Forbes property, I know this business can catch up with you. Guessing that's what happened to Christian, a once delightful soul. Know the property has been for sale for some time and hoping the new owner gives that place the warmth and caring to all its guest that it deserves! No matter how much they are spending. Until then, remove the "welcome, come in a say hello" sign out front. It's confusing after you jump on people for entering. read more

Everytime I'm in this part of Montana I make a point to come to Holland lake for lunch and drinks at the lodge. The food is ok- the view is amazing. We usually let the kids play on the lawn while we get drinks for a bit before we eat. After my most recent trip - I will not be back. Last week we showed up with 8 for lunch, 2 families of 4 with 4 kids. We had about an hour before lunch and the kids wanted to wade in the lake and look for crawdads - we ordered cocktails ($ -weak pours). Within 20 min the cook in an apron came out and told us we needed to get our kids out of he lake and swimming was for lodge guests only. I told him we were eating lunch there and we just ordered $100 in drinks and snacks - he said we couldn't go in the water if we hadn't rented a room. I asked him if the kids could go in the water if I rented kayaks for them($10 hr) and he said yes begrudgingly. He then went over to another group of people who I presume were overnight guests and I heard him tell them "we were asked to leave". I'm pretty perceptive - I was not rude to the cook - My kids were quiet and well behaved, as were we. We were there to spend money and the signs say the lodge and lawn are open to paying guests of the restaurant and lodge. The fact is they don't want non lodge guests using their facilities. You're fine to eat and drink, but don't plan on hanging out and enjoying what brought you there - the view. Too bad- Ruined our day trip. We ate at the Double Arrow lodge in Seeley. $500 spent on food and wine that went to people glad to see us. read more

This review is strictly for the restaurant, I did not stay at the lodge. Went here with some friends a few weeks back. Didn't really know what to expect as this is the only restaurant we went to while in MT. It is located out toward Condon MT, in a remote area on a small lake called Holland Lake. When you pull up, you can't even tell there is a restaurant located there, but once inside it's a cute lodge with a bar, fireplace and nice sized area for guests to hang out. The restaurant is in the back and doesn't open until 5:45. The menu looks like it probably changes daily and there are a few apps, salads, a soup and 3 entrees. From what I understand, guests of the lodge get free meals, so that's great. I noticed right away the prices were fairly high, I was surprised to see all entrees above $30, especially for scampi and a deconstructed pot pie. We all placed our orders and the food came out in a reasonable time, 20 minutes, give or take. The food was tasty but the portions were small, I mean even for fine dining, or what I would expect back home in the bay area. My wife got the scampi with "corn risotto", which was just actual corn and when she asked, is there no actual risotto, the owner/waiter said, oh no, not actual risotto, just the corn and walked away, so mater of fact. I guess we were the stupid ones for thinking risotto was actual risotto, I'm glad the scampi wasn't a term for something else as well. Well we all enjoyed our small meals and left and had a snack at home later to make up for it. read more

Holland Lake Lodge operates on public land via a Special Use Permit. Since transferring control of the business over to POWDR, an "adventure lifestyle" corporation based out of Utah, Holland Lake Lodge's permit is no longer valid, so beware if you're making reservations for the 2023 season. POWDR's highly contentious plans for this quaint, quiet, and rustic place include tearing down many of the buildings, and constructing a 13,000 sf lodge, 26 cabins and modern "bunkies", a new 3,000 sf restaurant, a welcome center, other outbuildings including employee housing and water craft storage, parking lots, and floating docks. Yikes! Many of these buildings are slated to be right on the shoreline, so say goodbye to the peace and quiet you used to be able to enjoy while out kayaking or playing on the water. If POWDR's proposal is approved, occupancy would triple and become year round. So much for finding a little solitude and an authentic Montana experience on public land. In 2010, former owner Christian Wohlfeil had this to say about Holland Lake: "Let's face it, there aren't many places you can walk out on a point, see two snow-capped mountain ranges, a stunning waterfall, and virtually no development." I wish he still saw the non-monetary value in that, as he was absolutely right. It's such a shame, because if POWDR's permit application and expansion proposal are approved by the USFS, the very essence of what makes Holland Lake so special will get positively steamrolled. Please consider this when deciding where to spend your time and money when visiting Montana. read more

My family and I have been coming up to Holland Lake for the last 15 years and have always looked forward to coming back every summer. We've had so many great experiences here. We've spent several thousands of dollars at the lodge for events. My grandmother had her 80th birthday here and the entire family came to celebrate. We were then sent a Christmas card from the staff. My little sister also had her 14th birthday here. Out of all the places to go she chose Holland Lake Lodge. We'd never had a bad experience until this trip. I went into the Lodge and asked to use the phone. I began to talk about my Grandmothers birthday, because she got along well with Nancy and her son Christian. And Nancy herself, was blatantly rude and ignored me. She didn't give me the time of day and I was offended by her tone. Later my sister and her friend went back to take a look in the gift shop and went inside the lodge. Christian VERY rudely kicked them out of the lodge. They went and stood on the lawn when he came out and told them to get off the property and that they were not welcome back. They said they had never been treated so disrespectfully by anyone in their lives. My sister recounted what had happened with tears in her eyes. She did not know what she had done wrong or what she had done to deserve that kind of treatment. It was completely unfair. Nancy and Christian are more than willing to treat you kindly if they know you'll be spending money, otherwise forget about customer service. This is a hidden jewel that's easy to miss. Drips with turn-of-the-century authenticity (timber construction, raw stone fireplace), rustic ambience (the floors creak); personal connection (you'll know the staff and half the guests by name by day two); and postcard views from your Adirondack chair from the lodge's point nosing into Holland Lake with its rising mountains to the east, a rope swing (!), and kayak/canoe/jet ski -perfect crystal blue water. But - with gourmet meals and Starlink internet service included. No - it's not a luxury hotel - but when was the last time you raved about a hotel experience to your friends? TEENAGERS BEWARE!! My friend and I paddled over to the lodge to check out the gift shop and we're chased away by the owner. I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my entire life. Christian told us we were not welcome on the property again and chased us all the way back to our kayaks. This is a review for the dinning experience only. The lodge is a gem in Montana and a wonderful place. That being said, we went here for dinner last night and we're unimpressed, mainly because of the portion sizes. The 'jumbo' scallop meal (which was around $35), we're three normal sized scallops with 5 green beans. I understand fine dining involves smaller portions , but this was ridiculous. My boyfriend got the pork chop, and it was sitting atop about 10 baked beans and 1 tiny carrot. Ive worked in plenty of restaurants, and 2 more carrots is not going to put you out of busines. The flavors were great and the steak and pork were delicious, but I'd rather just go down to the Hungry bear and get a steak. Also, our server was incredible rude and she seemed perturbed by our presence. Go for the views and the cocktails, skip the meal. read more

Holland Lake Lodge Should I tell you? Do you promise to love, honor, and respect her? I need to caution you, she'll take your breath away and steal a piece of your heart forever. Holland Lake near Condon, Montana is in my humble opinion the most beautiful lake in the lower 48 states and for me, a love affair that is nearing 50 years running. Like a distant family member, we don't see each other often, sometimes once a year, sometimes longer. This year was going to be different. This year was not a drive-by, this one was a "let me hug and remember you, the love of my youth". After threatening to do it for years, my adult children and I conquered the nearly 15 mile loop up to Upper Holland Lake, even further up to Sapphire Lake, and then back down to Holland. After climbing nearly to the sun, constantly watching for bears, and refilling our water bottles with our Katadyne we rolled back into the trailhead dusty, dirty, tired, and ready for a rest. Enter Holland Lake Lodge. Perfection on Perfection. As a child my family and I camped in Bay Loop next to the Lodge for years and saw a revolving door of owners that were probably seduced by the temptation of living year round at the lake, Heaven on Earth if you will-until reality set in and new owners took over. Do you promise to love, honor, and respect her? The answer is a resounding Yes from the current owner, Christian. His faithfulness has spanned 17 years and the Lodge absolutely glows in response to his attention to detail and care for this Montana treasure. I think Christian has found the secret formula to success, a relatively short season of late Spring to early Fall and a limited/focused menu of up-scale options prepared as professionally as you'll find in any high end restaurant. My girls and I delighted ourselves with outstanding crab cakes and salmon tartine to start the meal with and progressed to a wonderful chilled pea soup. The entrées were salmon over lentils cooked to my liking and outstanding and the girls opted for the Hanger steak over mashed potatoes. Dessert was ice cream with caramel and hot fudge for the girls and I had an incredible mousse over an Oreo base. The Lodge has a full bar and we started with Moscow Mules in lodge embossed copper mugs and then the girls moved to a very nice Cabernet. The dining room is comfortable and elegant with beautiful white tablecloths framed by attentive service from Christian and his small team. Meals are included in the Full American Fare pricing structure of the Lodge (alcohol is not included). Our breakfast the next day was also included and was excellent. I had rolled oats with brown sugar, raisins, apricots, and a little milk. The girls went with the bacon and eggs and birdman toast. There's nothing like bacon when visiting Holland Lake! The lodge sits just off a point in the middle of the lake and is a great area to swim, rent a paddle board, or canoe. They place wonderful Adirondack chairs to sit at the waters edge and watch the water activities (Boats, skiers, jets skies, canoes). It's very relaxing and not overly noisy. While the Lodge offers a number of small cabins to rent, we opted to stay in the Lodge itself. The upstairs of the Lodge has nine bedrooms of various sizes. Some have a couple of twin beds, some have Queen beds (not sure if they offer a King). The two bathrooms are shared and despite nearly every room being full, we never had to wait for the bathroom. There is no A/C but each room has a fan and Montana cools off nicely in the evening. This is a first class Lodge nestled in one of the most scenic locations in the Country. It would be very easy to rest on the laurels of how beautiful the setting is and expect the guests to reason that it's too difficult to really provide a great experience in the middle of nowhere (literally no cell service, but the Lodge does provide reliable Wi-Fi). That isn't the case, this place pulls it off. If this place isn't on your bucket list, you need to add it soon, just remember to love, honor, and respect her-she's one of a kind. read more

I heard several complaints from our guests about her being rude, which, she was not friendly to me either and I wish we could have had a bartender who was friendlier, especially since it was our big day.) Spending just 2 days/nights at this magical lodge resets your mind, body and heart! HLL went above and beyond our expectations in many ways: 3 course dinners with soy glazed trout, chicken piccata, blackberry glazed top sirloin and desserts like crispy apple pie and fudge topped mud pies.... easily accessible water sport equipment (kayaks, SUP's and canoes right there!).... cozy rooms in the inn as well as rustic cabins with their own private waterfront beaches/fire pits make this place a home away from home. (I wasn't able to take advantage of the massages, but heard those are reportedly out of this world! And there are some horse rides operation up the road too for any equine interests. ) The spirited owner Christian, his darling mom Nancy, Karen, and all of the staff were more than inviting to us and to all the guests that made this visit in the middle of the Montana woods (also one of the more pristine lakes in the area!) If you read any of the lower rated reviews, I'd like to attest that the HLL staff are more than welcoming to hikers/non-overnight guests, but I do suggest you call in advance for a dinner reservation, and probably lunch too. I watched some people get lucky that walked in, but when they were at capacity for the night, they weren't able to meet their requests. They always said so in a kind way, offering the chance for a cocktail/drink while they were there (which I would suggest to anyone in the area, but a stay is the best way to go to soak it all in!) I'm recommending this place to all friends and family and anyone in search of some serious rest, relaxation and outdoorsy elegance! I'm already excited to be back! read more

Stayed in a cabin right on the lake. It is hard to complain with scenery as beautiful as Holland lake and the surrounding mountains. The water was warm and Holland lake offered kayaks and canoes for us to explore the beauty. They were very accommodating, and made us feel like we lived on the property. The food was pretty good! I'm not going to get real nitpicky, but they were just out of a lot of the items that we wanted, and had a pretty limited menu. For the most part though, they did a great job. The servers work their butts off. I kid you not...in a one hour period, the same employee was cleaning out our cabin, checking out kayak paddles, and serving us water and soups for lunch. However, this might be the reason for the quality of food and service during the lunch and dinner. I can't wait to visit this place again! read more

If you like being treated like crap this is the place for you. The lady running the gift shop is very rude and not nice at all. I went into the lodge to change because we were going to rent a paddle board. While I was in there my friend was waiting outside. One of the golden retrievers who freely roam the property came up to her. She was standing on the side of the building petting it when the lady from the gift shop comes out and yells at her saying you aren't supposed to be there, and quit petting the dog! No signs anywhere that she saw saying you couldn't stand on the side of the building. Needless, to say we didn't stay. This lady most likely isn't the owner, or at least I hope not. We came last year and rented a paddle board, so thought we'd give you our business again this year. Clearly your making such a huge profit that being nice to paying customers isn't something you feel is necessary. It all worked out in our favor in the end. We drove into Seeley Lake as we were headed back home to Missoula. Stopped in at a local kayak/paddle board rental shop, and the people were actually nice!! The guy told us about one of their little lakeside kiosks on Salmon Lake where they rent equipment out. $10 an hour!! If I remember correctly from last year the paddle board rental here was $25 an hour! Sometimes being treated poorly works out in your favor. We found a place a lot closer to home and who actually treat people like they are happy to see you. We happily won't be back! read more

My family and I have been camping at Holland lake every year for as long as I can remember. I have loved going to the lodge and getting a drink and watching the sunset on the lawn. This year, however was very different. We were going to the lodge to get a drink and hangout and upon entry we were immediately approached by a very rude and pretentious man named "Chris" he immediately said " can I help you" in a very rude tone to which my sister replied "no we are just looking around" she had her camera in hand (obviously because it's a family camping trip) and he saw that and said you cannot take any pictures because this is private and we asked if we could go on the lawn and he said no and asked us to leave immediately. He was extremely rude and this experience has ruined Holland lake lodge for me. I was even going to inquire about having my wedding there but not anymore. If you have extremely rude staff that kick everyone out you cannot have a sign that says open to the public let alone a sign in the pathway up the the lodge that says welcome come on in. I cannot believe they even have someone on staff that is so terrible when dealing with every customer that comes in. I wish I could rate negative stars. One of my favorite hidden spots in Montana! This is a must see for locals and out-of-state visitors alike. It never gets old to come here for a visit to enjoy the views and solitude. I have stayed in most of the cabins and find them to be rustic and beautiful! The food is phenomenal and has been for many years now! Try the crab cakes for dinner appetizers and the house-made vegeburger at lunch. Love their homemade granola at breakfast, and hopefully Nancy will have made an apple pie while you're there. It's the best I've had. I find Christian, the owner, to be hospitable and the ultimate host. I hope this place never changes! Have also been to two weddings there, and each was magical! read more

The staff here was exceptionally rude to our group; which is unfortunate because it's location is phenomenal. We hiked some of the trail and came back to rent canoes but were asked to leave when we said some of our party would not be in the canoes. Exact words "That's not happening" without any further explanation. Hardly anyone was hanging out in the back area where the canoes were being launched out of. One of the most amazing hidden gems in Montana. I promise if you come here you will not be disappointed. The lodge is smaller and rustic with lots of unexpected luxury. This lodge is nestled in the Bod Marshall on a smaller lake. They have two options either a the main lodge or individual cabins. The cabins a separate and very charming. They come with your own fire pit and adirondack chairs to enjoy views of the lake with. The lodge also has paddle boards and kayaks for use. It was nice to get out on the water and explore the lake, we ended up at the base of the near by waterfall (which is also a short 1.5 mile each way hike from the lodge itself). There are also two lodge dogs Willa and Wanda. Willa is a amateur fisher and will entertain you with her attempt to fish in the lake. Wanda is a just a sewer love bug who wants rubs. The food (included in your stay) was to die for. The chef is a genius with food and makes amazing creations, and Nancy can certainly bake. The owner Christian along with the rest of the staff Nancy, Jake, and Ryan were amazing and make you feel like family from the moment you step foot there. They will do anything to make sure you have a wonderful experience. I miss them already and can't wait to go back. read more

I've never written a review in my life but the experience my daughter had Holland Lake Lodge this past weekend warrants it. Camping at Holland Lake has always been a family favorite and the Lodge has always been part of that - looking at the gift shop, eating at the restaurant, renting paddle boards, buying orange soda, etc and have always felt welcome by Christian and his mother Nancy. In fact as a family we stayed at the Lodge on a couple of different occasions and have spent a lot of money there over the years trying to support their business. I was shocked when my daughter returned from going over to the Lodge this past weekend, in tears no less, because Christian had come after them and physically escorted them off the property. He was rude, nasty and demeaning to them. What did they do you might ask? They went over to the Lodge, plugged in their less than 100% charged phones and logged into the Wi-Fi because my daughter knew the password from when we stayed there before. Criminal!! I get it that using the Wi-Fi could interfere with the performance of the Wi-Fi for the paying guests but there's absolutely no excuse for Christian's boorish behavior. Instead of politely asking them to log off, he raised his voice in front of other guests telling them to leave and chased them off the property. They were embarrassed and had no idea what they'd done to get such a reaction out of him. There is no excuse for his behavior and I can't believe a grown man would treat two young women that way. The moral of the story is if you want to be treated well (at least to your face) go to Holland Lake Lodge as a paying guest only. Parents, don't let your kids go in the Lodge without you if you are just visiting. read more

ATTN: Campers, if you want to have a nice dinner go ELSEWHERE! The people at the Holland Lake Lodge won't even take your money for dinner unless you make a reservation. They claim to try and accommodate walk-in guests but they will simply ignore you. Heck, a camper can hardly step a toe on the Holland Lake Lodge property. Next time I camp at Holland Lake which is AWESOME by the way w/ a clean campground, spacious campsites, nice camp hosts, and etc I'll tell every camper I see to go elsewhere if they plan to have dinner at the Holland Lake Lodge. If it was possible to give the Holland Lake Lodge 0/5 Stars I would. The campground and hike to the waterfall though are 10/10. read more

It's a crying shame that I am writing a one star review for this spectacular place. I love the idyllic setting of this beautiful lodge. This lodge could be SO GOOD if they changed their attitudes towards non-staying guests. I have given the staff of this lodge THREE chances to prove that they care about customer service and their patrons, but have been treated like garbage on all occasions. I am not a teenager nor have I caused any unwarranted disturbances. My last visit put me over the edge. I had arranged to meet an old college friend there. We had planned a day of a hike and then we're going to go to the lodge for dinner and drinks. We met on the lawn with our children and ordered drinks and were told we could have them on the lawn if we would like. It was 85 degrees and the kids were getting bored, so we allowed them to swim while we ordered drinks and some snacks. We would have spent hours and probably a few hundred dollars for the afternoon, but Christian saw we were letting the kids swim. He came out and told us that the kids had to get out of the water and then told us to finish our drinks and then to leave. There was one other family that was staying at the lodge that was out in the water with us and we were not disturbing them. Everyone was very upset by getting treated so badly and we promptly packed up and left. The feeling I have regarding their attitudes is that they are very elitist and only provide decent customer service to their overnight guests. Everyone else is actually NOT welcome. read more

My wife and I returned to Holland Lake Lodge after a 20+ year hiatus, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The lake and lodge had held many special memories, as each of us grew up in Missoula, and visited here early in our marriage. Life has taken us to California, so we decided to bring our three children, ages 17-21, with us for this special visit. We booked rooms in the lodge, and enjoyed every aspect of our visit. Christian and his Mom Nancy were the perfect hosts, attending to our every need, including conspiring with our kids to surprise us with a champagne & sunset table on the point! The lodge has the rustic charm one has to experience to appreciate, and each and every meal, included with the price, was fantastic. We found the portions to be perfect, and the flavors an absolute delight. Our stay included kayak and canoe rentals, which we took advantage of daily, as the lake was gorgeous, as always, and often smooth as glass. We also hiked up to the falls, an easy 3.2 mile round trip trek, stopping often for photos. My kids have all expressed their desire to make this not only a family tradition, but also a special place to take their families in the future. Overrated, overpriced! I would rate the food C-. The Loon Loft cabin on the lake needed to be bulldozed. Forget about fishing. We were scheduled for two nights lodging - could only endure one night. We won't be back. read more

I would like to thank the manager at the Holland Lake Lodge for showing us his true character hidden beneath a facade of Authentic Montana Values. My wife and I had a misfortune in the backcountry, which I will spare the details, and had to hurry out after a week in the wilderness at a location far from our car. The first place we arrived at after hiking out was the Holland Lake Lodge, where we had no doubt the kind people would allow us to use their land line to call for help (this is Montana after all). It is indeed embarrassing to walk in to a fancy lodge after a week of wearing our shabby camp clothes, but to see the look on this mans face you would have assumed we were varmints that had emerged from under his furniture. After ignoring us for five minutes and giving periodic glares, he approached us in a brusque manner. We asked if there was a land line we could use. He flashed us the phone and said it was $2 for two minutes. We tried to explain that it was an emergency and we did not bring cash with us in to the wilderness, but he gave us about three seconds before cutting us off and replying curtly "I'm sorry, then I guess I can't help you." We were stunned and embarrassed. Fortunately, a campground host a ways further down the road was kind enough to not only lend us his phone, but offered us a place to sit while we waited for a ride! The interaction at the Holland Lake Lodge still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I hope that this can be a teachable moment, and in the future the people at the lodge will condescend to help those in unfortunate circumstances. read more

I had a terrible experience at Holland Lake Lodge. Seven bicycle riders, including myself rode our bikes into Holland Lake Lodge for an evening dinner and beverages. We offered to spent $350. The owner had seating in the bar area and outside. He dismissed us and kicked us out. He followed us to our bikes shouting at us to get off his property. He was hostile and unfriendly as he demanded that we leave. We had heard that he did not like bikers or campers, but we were looking for a good meal and thought $50 a plate would be an inducement. Boy we were wrong. I do NOT recommend Holland Lake Lodge to anyone with its current ownership. read more

We hiked to Holland Falls and we're hot and tired. It was SO nice to get an ice cold beer and iced tea for lunch at the lodge! And a gourmet lunch too! Hubby had the turkey pesto grilled sandwich special. I had curry chicken salad. Both were yummy. Then we had chilled lemon mousse for dessert that was heavenly! We will definitely be back for dinner sometime soon. read more

This is a magical place. The food is fantastic, the scenery beautiful. Get on a paddle board or kayak and enjoy the lake. Stay is a cabin if you can for a wonderful get away, if you can't stay at least try to have a meal. It's a special place; well run, beautiful. Definitely 5 stars! read more

Holland Lake is a slice of Paradise in western Montana. Holland Lake Lodge, built in 1926, has been preserved to retain its traditional look and feel (roaring fireplace, fire pits, squeeky floors, thin walls, basic room accoutrements). Besides the breathtakingly pristine surroundings, first-class meals are included with your room rate (albeit with an automatic 20% gratuity added to the entire hotel bill). The staff, for the most part, are wonderful (we had a surly young waitress one night). Unfortunately, the property's owner did not explain a small but significant detail to us which ultimately lead to an unnecessary confrontation where shockingly haughty, arrogant, rude and inappropriate behavior was displayed. The co-owner was sympathetic and tried hard to make up for the insult. We are hoping to put this bizarre experience behind us and continue to frequent and enjoy this Montana treasure. read more

Just stopped for a quick look & walk around. Went into the lodge around 3:00 on a Sunday, grabbed a table & drink for 3 of us - including my 92 year old mother-in-law who is using a walker due to a broken foot. Finished our drink, took her just outside to see the view. Soon as we went out the back door, the proprietor SNEAKILY locked it on us and disappeared. So, I ran around to the front to see if I could get him to unlock it so 92 year old mother-in-law with walker would not have to go clear around the lodge, on the uneven grass to get back to the car... in the rain... NOPE Front door was locked too!! So, yup, had to carefully work our way back to the front with her... Caught him just going into the kitchen area and mentioned that he had seen us go out the back & I felt that he had DELIBERATELY locked us out!! Of course, he acted flabbergasted but did mention "Well, we ARE closed"... totally a jerk! More concenred about closing at a certain time then ensuring the safety and well being of clients. Will be mentioning this to all that I can... totally unacceptable behaviour by this man towards us & a 92 year old with a broken foot. Oh, by the way, this 92 year old already had a prosthetic on the other leg so she's double handicapped! read more
