The transmission line on my Toyota 4Runner was damaged after some thieves cut into it to steal the catalytic converter. Ron's Muffler recommended Holland Service to me and I can't be more grateful and pleased with their service. Jeff at Holland Service is GREAT. Straight up and honest dealing. THIS IS WHAT YOU SEARCH FOR IN A MECHANIC. He's the one who specializes in the older cars, and I brought my 69 Mark III to him for a diagnostic and issues with fuel/carburetor etc. etc. He was honest, upfront (and completely realistic) with when I could bring my car there. I'm glad he was. I wouldn't have wanted to leave my precious car there for day after day or for weeks etc etc. He made room for me within his schedule. It worked great for me. When I brought it in he said one option is we could talk about a carburetor rebuild. But, he wanted to check it out first. He could have tried to sell me on getting the carburetor done, but he didn't. He could have told me the carb was bad, and it needed replacing. But, no. He was totally honest, made a few adjustments and it runs fine now. I'm VERY thankful for that. This ensured I would be using them, him, this company for any repair work I can't do myself. Like a lot of people here say.. once you find out you can trust these guys, and they are also nice folks.. there's no reason to go anywhere else. I'm not. We called Holland car care inc. Because all of the amazing reviews, and spoke with David. Let's just say a choice we don't regret! We came in town to purchase a 2004 mercedes e55 amg and wanted to get a pre inspection before purchasing the vehicle. David was so helpful in answering all if our questions. When we did arrive everything was smooth sailing. The wait was approximately an hour and a half.... but the great part is they are located to so many eateries, shops and a movie theater. After the inspection David explained what they found that needs to be fixed from the motor, brakes, battery to the windshield wipers (luckily nothing major) So if you need a pre purchase inspection (it cost us 199.95) or any service on your vehicle I would highly reccomend this shop! read more

Normally I don't return if auto service is bad but I'll save a few headaches here. I would check your car if it really is good after getting it back from them. I had transmission work done to my car and this is what I got back: 1. They put in used/sludged motor oil + filter back into my car. Mind you when I gave them my car, it had recent new oil and filter installed. Why couldn't they just simply returned that? I usually change my own oil and I only use Mobil and synthetic. Why put in sludged oil into a perfectly running engine? 2. They broke my window sprayer and charged for a new part, but meanwhile, didn't check the clip that kept the transmission line into the cooler. It was broken when they replaced it and I drove a ticking timebomb. When the line came off, it turned out it was a $14 replacement part by the dealer. Luckily It came of on my driveway and I knew what I saw and fixed it myself. Had this happened on the freeway... But they charged me $30 for a new windshield sprayer they themselves broke. Why not just check that everything attached was tight and torqued? 3. The car drives, but it doesn't drive smoothly. It still rumbles and creaks, symptoms that led me to get my transmission work done. Luckily for me, I do most repair on my own except for bigger things like transmission work. I was shocked to get my car back now knowing the poor work ethic Holland did on my car. I told the person that referred me to them and she was floored and horrified. read more

I brought my recently purchased 1967 Cadillac in to this shop based on a recommendation from a friend of mine in my Cadillac club. Jeff Holland runs the place and is very nice. I wasn't in a rush and a couple of parts needed to be found for my old car, so it was there for 3 weeks. It runs much better than it did when I brought it in, so I'm happy. I had a timing housing cover replaced (I bought that part), some vacuum lines re-routed correctly, and a new carb gasket put on for just under a thousand dollars. read more

My car wouldn't start one Monday, I called to bring it in and they took it that day. I was able to get it back the following afternoon. However, when I picked it back up, I noticed a screeching sound when I accelerated and took it back once again to find out that they hadn't tightened the timing belt well enough when they were working on it. This was a big inconvenience because I had to uber back and forth to work on top of them trying to charge me again for the labor even though they didn't correct the error on the first try. Lastly, a couple days after I get my car back the second time, I tried to turn on my car and it wouldn't start, just as it had before I went to the shop to spend $560 on a new alternator that clearly didn't do the job. A waste of time and money, i'm taking my car somewhere that doesn't overcharge and can accurately fix my car. read more

This review is long overdue but I have gone to this place twice when I needed help with my car for on the fly problems. Both times, Chris immediately came out from the garage to help me troubleshoot things with my car. I don't recall what I needed the first time but I remember that I was treated so well the first time, the second time I needed something I instantly thought of Holland Service. The second time I went, I needed someone to help me tighten my battery in to place. I had previously gone to the batteries plus to get it installed but at the time I went they only had one employee working and he would have to go inside everytime a customer went in and was very distracted while installing my battery. In result of that, it just wasn't installed properly and so at times my car wouldn't start and I would have to pop open the hood and fiddle with the battery until it wanted to start. When I told Chris my issue he took a look and agreed that there were a lot of things that were loose. He got some tools and started tightening up right away. After that, my car was perfectly fine. I asked him how much I could pay him because even though it didn't take him long to fix my battery, the problem had been very inconvient for me for weeks and I was very happy that someone was able to help me. He refused payment and just said to comeback if I needed other work on my car. As a woman, sometimes it can be intimidating to go to a mechanic alone but both times Chris made me feel very comfortable and I could tell that he likes helping people. I had a great experience here. Chris brought my old econoline van back to life after it was stalling quite frequently. Also, a leaky hose was replaced and I was told that there might be an issue with that. Pressed for time, I had to get back to work. He was right about a radiator leak. I brought it back & through a combination of miracles and hard work it was fixed in less than a day. I didn't expect it to be repaired that quickly since I didn't have an appointment but more importantly it was done correctly. This place was a breath of fresh air especially after the week I had buying a used vehicle with every dollar I could scrape together, having it break down within days of purchasing it, getting it towed to a service station that said it was five years too old to work on by company policy. I will be returning here as there are a few other things I want done with this vehicle. read more

Compare that to the total service at Jiffy Lube I would pay $45 but I wouldn't get inspected by mechanics. Very happy. read more

I've got two old cars. Which goes without saying, I've been to maaaany automotive repair shops. Holland's beats them all. My boyfriend is a salesman. One of those rare ones, an honest salesman. As such, he can't deal with slimy salespeople and he gets a bit bitter (just a WEE bit) when he encounters a hard sale by someone who's just after your mulah and doesn't genuinely want to help you. So, when my bitter (yet sweet!) boyfriend heartfeltedly recommends an auto mechanic, I'm intrigued. I started taking my baby (sorry, my CAR) to Holland a few years ago and blindly trusted these guys based on my boyfriend's gut instincts. It wasn't until today that I had firm PROOF, dear Yelpers, for anyone who might be as skeptical as my boyfriend can be, that THIS is the mechanic you can BELIEVE in. Saturday, my tire blew out. On 580 East. In scary fast traffic that violently shook my shouldered car with each speedy pass. Anyhow, it was an emergency and a spare got me to a tire place that was open on Saturday that could put a new wheel on. That's right, Expensive Tire Fixing Company. You know what I'm talkin' about. TWO tires and an 'inspection fee' later (I'm weak when it comes to my baby, I know), ETFC is telling me I've got major additional problems with brake pads, strut rod bushings (wha?), axle, very very dire, must fix immediately, yada yada. Quote was, well, a substantial portion of my pathetic salary. Thankfully, ETFC was about to close, and didn't have time to get it all done for me Saturday, but I could bring my car in Monday... Boyfriend and I took my car into Holland on Monday morning instead. Got a call about an hour later--Jeff Holland had looked at everything personally and called me himself. Told me he didn't see anything wrong with axle, could do brake pads/bushings same day, be done by the afternoon. His quote? HALF the ETFC quote. This is the guy to take your car to. He is HONEST and KNOWLEDGEABLE and KIND. He took time to explain to me over the phone exactly what needed to be done and why. I asked questions. He explained some more. I was confused. He patiently repeated things. I may even understand what strut rod bushings are now. Maybe. No promises. The work is done now, my baby is happy. I asked Jeff if I still needed to get my car aligned and he said yes, if I haven't had it aligned in a long time. He asked if I needed a recommendation--I mentioned ETFC. He gave me his recommendation--the place where he gets the wheels on his own car aligned. I consider this hitting the jackpot, folks. Like when my primary care physician recommended her personal ob-gyn to me. That is GOLD. You KNOW you're getting the best. Okay. Perhaps I digress... Ahem. To summarize... If you need a place to take your car... And you don't trust the place where you currently go... And you want, nay NEED your baby really well taken care of... And you're not excited when the cost of auto mechanic labor exceeds private college tuition for your first-born... I can HIGHLY recommend Holland. You know the place is good when it inspires rave reviews on Yelp and isn't even a restaurant. Plus, my boyfriend approves. read more

I usually do all my own vehicle repairs, but was not in a position to a result of relocating to the Bay area and being about to move into a permanent place. So of course my vehicle conks out on the way to work. I randomly picked Holland. I took the vehicle in, they were OK to deal with, they got it fixed in two days. I went in to pick it up, the first bad sign was the grease on the cloth part of the door panel. I wasn't happy but my vehicle was running, so what ever. A day or two later the check engine light comes on. I wonder if it is coincidence or if they did something wrong, but my code scanner is packed away somewhere and I am not inclined to shell out more after I just paid a bunch money for vehicle repairs. The engine seemed to be running OK, maybe not getting good gas mileage but then I now had a longer commute in worse traffic so I wasn't sure. Before I had a chance to scan the check engine light my clutch goes out. I bring the vehicle back into Holland. They fix the truck in two days and I am back on the road. Guess what, I now have three patches of grease on the door panel, at least the new additions are on the plastic. Still annoyed, but I am not getting rides to work from wife so I deal with it. After a couple of days I notice the engine is now leaking oil from the clutch region. I guess they somehow messed up the rear main seal that I requested that they replace when they were in doing the clutch. We get moved into the new place, I get my code scanner unpacked and hook it up. Both banks of the engine are running lean which is not good. I do some research, find some possible causes, and do some checking. I find the PCV hose has been knocked out of the valve cover, this is in the region of where they would have been working, and I did not have a problem before they were working on the vehicle. I was thinking that I would take the it back and ask them to sort out the oil leak, but at this point I would not want to let them touch it again. I was under the car looking at the oil leak, and I notice that they have broken some of the wiring mounts that I know were previously OK. It takes a little extra time to remove these with out breaking, but some mechanics can't be bothered. It might seem harmless, but the manufacturer would not have put these on if they don't do anything. They keep the wiring from contact things they should not and from failing due to vibration which I have had happen before. I saw some other things that look like they were maybe broken off but don't remember what they looked before so can't say for sure. The last straw was when I was working on the rear brakes, I noticed a fuel line that had a loose hose clamp on it. This is definitely something that they would have had to remove when they were working on the vehicle the first time. Luckily it was low pressure line and the line stayed on or it would have been a serious fire risk. read more

Jeff Holland knows cars. Unfortunately, my husband and I bought a used car that had a bunch of things that needed repair. Luckily we found Holland Service. Not only are the prices fair, but Jeff is very good at explaining what exactly is going on under the hood. Many times after I have spoken with a mechanic, I am left confused and doubtful. This is completely opposite from my experience here at Holland Service. After having my car repaired here a couple of times, I feel much more knowledgeable about cars than I had before hand AND most importantly, my car no longer sounds like a spaceship about to crash! read more

My poor old car is on his last legs but I decided that he needed double knee replacement surgery anyway. I took him to Holland Service to get a new pair of boots and front axles. I knew this would be pricey but my car was making some scary noises and I was afraid each time I drove that the wheels would fall off. I got a pretty good deal for it all, less than I anticipated (even after my initial quote from there!) and less than other places quoted. I have been taking my Ford Taurus to Holland Service for more than 10 of years and have always gotten good service. The staff is very knowledgeable. They have kept the aging car running well, and the advice they have given me has always been sound. Recently, the Taurus developed a problem where it intermittently would not start. The problem would come and go, leaving me afraid to drive a car I could not trust. AAA thought that it was a failing starter. Chris at Holland, suspected a fuel pump problem, but refused to sell me an expensive fix until he was sure. He couldn't be sure unless they could get the problem to show itself. They worked with the car until it did, and Chris was right, it was the fuel pump. The problem is fixed and the car now runs like a dream. read more

Had a rattling under my car which I wanted to get checked out before a 12 hour road trip. I was leaving the same day, so it had to be quick. All the other shops I called -- including the high-rated shops on Yelp (fake ratings?) -- wanted to take the car in and look at it for a couple hours. Not exactly the answer I was looking for, and totally unnecessary (see below). The receptionist at Holland Service was nice, and the mechanic took a look Immediately. He hopped in the car and we took a quick ride around the side streets so he could hear the noise. It turns out it was nothing important, nothing that needed to be fixed before the trip. And NO CHARGE for this. This was great service -- I think the other ratings on Yelp are inflated (fake) because the highest-rated shops were definitely not the best. read more
