I immediately called them at 9 am the next morning because I wanted to see her, (she died in my house while I was not there), and they were EXTREMELY rude and told me that it would be at least 2 days before I could see her because 'they had funerals' the next 2 days. They also referred to her as 'a case'....not your loved one, or even saying 'her body'. I was COMPLETELY taken aback that a funeral home that has multiple locations was not able to accommodate a quick viewing for me and my family members! ADND the person that I spoke to was EXTREMELY RUDE AND talked to me like I was from around the way....using ghetto slang! I was completely enraged and told them to NOT TOUCH my mom....I would have another funeral home come and get her immediately and have her taken to a funeral home that could accomodate us. Mays then told me that it would be a $500 charge for her overnight stay at their funeral home....$500 for her being with them for less than 24 hours...just no empathy or compassion at all! My neighbor said that Mays reputation is so bad that she would rather be left on the side of the road than to have them handle her burial.....and I TOTALLY AGREE! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND MAYS....But I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND GIVNISH FUNERAL HOME on Route 130! A TOTALLY different experience! They know how to handle people during a time of grief! The attendants were very accommodating and helpful. They offer two "cafe" rooms with coffee, tea and water. There are tables in the cafe's to accommodate food. Only reason for the 4 star is that the family was told they were the only funeral that morning/day (as it was planned to be a BIG funeral) but the funeral home added another funeral before the big one. We then had to wait for the second room to be available/cleaned and parking was a nightmare. They do have a parking lot, but when you have two funerals booked around the same time, it fills up very quickly.

For some reason I felt more at peace when I saw the Life Celebration sign. When the day came that William did pass, I called the John Givnish Life Celebration location to make the necessary arrangements. Again, in the midst of all my grief I felt more at peace again. Gardner is the usual funeral home used by many of my family, friends and neighbors. I think it's because of the location. To me, it can't be much else. This is your "typical" yuck factor funeral home in my opinion. Ugly, outdated, wallpaper and a funky stench, with just a touch of creepy & coldness in the air. I took a mint after our first "stop" and it was actually a soft, nasty/stale candy instead. I spit it in the trash. The one employee didn't know where my friend, the DAUGHTER of the deceased, was and looked at me clueless. Not good AT ALL. It's nice that they have tissue boxes a-plenty and I believe, small water bottles as well. The only decor, if you will, that I liked, was the cage of cute finches.

Secondly KITTY told us that everything would be handled by them, they never notified social security nor his insurance policy that he had passed. She then told us it would be an extra $800 because I made a mistake with his social security number, when we went into the office to discuss with someone else they told us she should have never said that and then when she was brought in the office to figure it out, she rolled her eyes and had a very distasteful attitude when asked if she remembers handling my dad's arrangements. They also had someone else's paperwork inside my dad's file and had "no idea" how it got mixed up. Finally KITTY told us we were able to set up a payment plan to pay the balance but when I called to set it up, I was told by another staff member that they do not accept payment plans and the balance would have to be paid in full before we could receive the death certificates. When KITTY was asked about the payments plans she stated "well we aren't going to refuse any money so pay whatever. " VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, UNORGANIZED and NOT empathetic at all. Go anywhere else but to Savin. The only reason we went there is because they had done previous services for my family. My sister and I are young and my dad's death was unexpected so we really didn't know anything better but now we do.
