I saw something at this location while I was waiting in line that deeply disturbed me. A mom was trying to exchange a shirt she had purchased for her son, and the item was apparently 1 day past the 30 day return window. The cashier wanted to help her, but the manager (a young man) refused to help her. She had the receipt and was ready to go, but he rudely stated corporate policy and sent her on her way. Wow. I will -never- return to this store again. Someone needs to both send the manager to finishing school because he's lame - and someone at corp needs to do something about the backwards/idiotic customer service. read more

I rarely write reviews, but when something is wrong, it is wrong. My daughter and her friend wanted to buy two shirts and waited at the cash register for 5 minutes. No one came. My daughter saw a nearby associate and went over to her and asked if they could buy the shirts. The associate replied, "the line is over there." My daughter explained that they had been waiting in line but no one was at the register. This associate then said to my daughter, "don't give me attitude". Wow. I guess it's ok to talk down to your customers and give THEM attitude if they are younger than you, right? For asking a simple question and wanting to patronize your store. Avoid the short Asian associate with died hair in a ponytail. And no, not racist. I am Asian, too. I've been to this Hollister at Hillsdale mall several times before with no problems. Today was Black Friday. Of course, there were many people in store, and I had to wait in a long line to pay. Understandable. They had a promotion; if you spend $50, you get a free tote bag. That's exactly what I did. I finally got to the cashier. She greeted me and seemed polite. However, when I asked for my free tote bag, she said they were out of stock. She lied. Then, I paid for my items and asked another employee there. This particular employee said they still had tote bags in stock and gave me one after I showed my receipt. read more

Was with my friend, decided to go in Hollister before leaving. It was around 3:30pm The store was totally empty, I notice one girl working there as we got closer to the register, she was walking around the register. Doing what, idk .. Didn't say hi, didn't even look at us. We browsed the store, saw these really cute velvet shorts as we were leaving (they were placed literally in front of the register on the women's side) wanted to try them on but felt weird as she just stood there, I felt judged. I don't know if I ever get greeted at this location...I do sometimes at the Valley Fair one. Hmm..plus side of Hillsdale over the super crowded Valley Fair store, you don't have to shove yourself in between pre-teens, teens, FOBs in their 20s-30s or cougars to search through the clearance items though. I haven't thought about writing a review for this location until my experience today. I saw this cute cami on a mannequin at the Valley Fair location & was told that the top was sold out. I went to this location today & asked the guy on the floor if they had any after seeing them on 2 mannequins in the store, & he got a girl to ask her, & she told me that they never carried them. Okay..then why do you have them on 2 mannequins then??! Oh Hollister, I've been having a love-hate relationship with you. I semi love you when you have cute stuff and stuff on sale. I hate you because it seems like your sizes are limited on clearance items, most of the merchandise looks the same, the sales associates don't help customers really, the sizing & it's too damn dark in there! Hollister's sizing (along with Abercrombie) can totally hurt your self esteem; my sweetie is like a size or 2 bigger here than American Eagle. And I always have trouble with shirts here because they are not for well endowed ladies..unless you want your boobs to totally pop out or something. What the ...! I saw the dress that I really like on the mannequin in the store . Then I asked them the locate of the dress, they show me the dress, it size M, my size is S and it is the last one besides the one on mannequin, I asked them that can they get the one on the mannequin for me. They said no, they denied to give me the dress on mannequin even though it is the last dress they have in the store . Then they said that they can oder for me, I can purchase right there and the dress will be delivered to my address, i am ok with this then I asked them how about the price, they said that it will be full price even though they have promotions 40-60% off whole store and online, and if I oder online I gonna get extra 15% off. I must say, this isn't your typical Hollister store, as this one knows how to maintain itself. Upon walking in, I was greeted warmly by a nice young lad in his teens. Following the welcome, I decided to browse the store and then was reassured by this really friendly high school student with a red lanyard that if I needed a different size for anything, she was there to assist. At the register a really friendly girl helped me sign up for club cali so I could get bonus points from buying items. Definitely will be coming back to get some quality discounted clothes. read more

It you like the clothes from Hollister, this is one of their nicer stores. If you don't like loud music - don't go here and you should know better! I sometimes shop for my daughter here and they are always helpful and friendly. They have a good variety of sizes and the people at the register are really nice. Another plus is that they all wear Hollister clothes. How many times have you asked a salesperson where they got their clothes because you like them, and they tell you some other random store?? Here they promote what they sell- I just got the cutest red shorts for my daughter because they looked so good on the salesgirl. Get over the atmosphere people! That is every Hollister. read more

The store looks nice, but there's no clarity on what's on sale and what is not. I was shopping here on Black Friday, while posters around the stores promised 40% off the entire store with few exceptions marked in s tiny font below big bold sale. Lured in, I've spend done time looking at the clothing and choosing several garments. I'm not a typical target audience representative, as I felt the crowd around me was school age teenagers. Although, I have to tell you, most of the fashion there looked quite universal. Anyway, I've purchased several garments and the cashier didn't apply the discount because these were "necessities," which were excluded from the big sale. Garments were not marked as necessities on their labels, and I was very disappointed. I think there should be better representation of excluded items or more people working the floor in order to advice shoppers. Neither of these happened this Black Friday. read more

Recent visit was to shop for my niece's b-day gift - she likes hoodies so this place fits the bill. We got the hoodie and a tee and got out. I've been at the store three times and the first time the salesperson said there was no sale on a particular item in the store or online so I bought it at full price. I had to bring it back and tell them that and return it. Today I went back to return another item. I stood in line in back of a person and another line started forming across from me. I asked the sales lady if she could look up my sale because I did not have the correct receipt with me and she said I had to stand in another line to talk to her. I stood in that other line in back of two people and waited for another 15 minutes. The manager then told me she cannot look up my sale & I needed to have my original receipt. Someone needs to train these people better customer service and thorough information! read more

Pretty damn disappointed with this location's customer service. I bought some shorts online and needed to return them for a different size. Before exchanging it online, I figured it would be easier to just see if they had them in the store before placing an online order and having to deal with shipping, waiting, and etc. I called the store to see if they had my size of the items I just bought. An associate picked up and I read her the SKU numbers so she could check to see if they had them in my size. After telling me they didn't, I placed an exchange order online (essentially having to pay more because they don't do price adjustments online). First thing I see when I go into the store to return my items is a pile of the shorts I had just called about to see if they had it in my size. After checking the the pile, 4 out of 6 in the pile were my size. I could've just exchanged everything at the store since I was there to return it anyway. The associate probably pretended to take down the SKU numbers I gave her, waited a few minutes, and quickly gave me a "no, we don't have it' and replied they only had it in BS sizes so she didn't have to check. What's sad is, I worked for Hollister when I was in college so I know how easy it is to enter a SKU and see if there's any in the store. I gave them the benefit of the doubt in the beginning but now I just see plain laziness. read more

Horrible fitting room employee tonight!!! I was just there tonight, 3 fitting rooms total, 2 was occupied. Two couples were using 2 fitting room, girls tried one and open the door to ask their boyfriend: does it look on on her? These two fitting room took forever! The girl who worked in the fitting room was talking to her girlfriend and folding clothes the whole time, she saw me and didn't say anything, I thought the fitting room were all full. And I stood there besides her for 10 minutes +!!! AND THEN, she knocked and opened the third fitting room which I thought was full?? TOTALLY EMPTY! F!! That's means I waited there waste my ten something minutes to listen to they gossip? Ridiculous, you get paid for check and open the fitting room door for customers not gossip with your girlfriend! I've never seen a staff of self-centered, narcissistic, self-absorbed neanderthals with no clue about customer service more than the experience here at Hollister where hard of hearing is a pre-requisite for employment and it is against the law to buy light bulbs higher than 20-watts... Can somebody please show these brain-dead wanna be models how to turn down the volume and turn up the lights.. I would request that they say "hello" but I'm convinced nobody there knows how to talk.. So, here was my experience. I saw their promo saying "Last day for 10%, 20% and 30% OFF In-store and online" on my facebook this morning. I fell in-love with their cute Hawaiian print dress couple weeks ago and it was pretty pricey so I was waiting for sumthin like this promo. Since it said on their ad that "only participating stores", I went in and made sure if this store was a participating store. I asked the lady standing&folding clothes in middle of nowhere. I'd say I was shocked that SHE JUST LAUGHED AT ME. I stared at her for like 15sec. and I figured nothing funny is going on so she probably doesn't know the answer. I just wanted to move on so I asked her who I should ask. So she sent me to the cashier, and she was able to answer my questions. So I started shopping. The girl who was standing&folding clothes in a middle of nowhere was the only available person I saw. So I HAD to ask her for help again. She started talking to guy over the radio. The music was so loud, and I mean SO LOUD that they couldn't hear each other and they kept on asking questions back. After like 6mins. she finally came back to me and said "Sorry, we don't have the size you're looking for.". Be prepared to beg the prom queen or the football captain to discontinue their flirting session in order to get access to the fitting room. And Don't expect the most popular kid in class to help you with anything because he's too busy entertaining all the co-workers at the cash register. You're dreaming if you think he's gonna acknowledge your presence. One more thing... Maybe it was just me but it was clearly an advantage to be white customer. Asking for help at Hollister kinda feels like the 'lil sister bugging the big sister while she's with all of her popular friends. read more

While shopping for back to school clothes with my daughter at hollister, we purchased a pair of great fitting jeans. A few days later, my daughter wore them, and noticed a horrendous stench from the dyes in the jeans, which resulted in a terrible rash on her legs. We washed this same pair of jeans 4 different times, and smell is still very much there. I am extremely disappointed and I am going to try an take them back.....hopefully they will do the right thing and let me return the jeans. :( read more

I come here because I don't want to grow up and it makes me feel good that I, as a 30 yrs old can still fit into their mini skirts and short shorts (not that I'd wear them out in public or anything...). The check out line is down the center but had changed. so I followed the foot prints on the floor showing where to go, or so I thought. I was clearly next when the cashier called some random person to be next. I spoke up and was told in a hateful voice, I was not in line. I pointed out the foot prints on floor and she threw her arms from one side to another and said the line goes like this! The person that she had told to go next said we could next instead. Hollister, is an okay store, I mean they carry cute clothes and everything, and clearly when you step in the store the theme is surfing and californa (they even have a cam staring down at some beach in california) The fact that the store is so dark inside sometimes and only certain places have light...or the music is blaring and it smells like perfume in there... Other than that the clothes are cute and sometimes you just have to race there to get the clearence stuff before the sizes run out and your stuck with xsmall... The people are okay, they sometimes will greet you when you leave (there always standing by some place at the front folding some clothes) and they'll probaly help (never asked them for help actually...so can't help you with that)...but overall just give the store a try! read more

Wandered in half heartedly looking for a skirt for swing. I didn't expect to find what I was looking for but I went anyways. I was reminded of why I never shop at Hollister. O M G! Now I understand that I am too old for many items in this store and I just so happened to be walking by and a navy blue with white polka dot dress caught my eye.. I could just see myself wearing it, and knew I was going to have it.. So I go inside this hut thing find the dress and grab a medium... i liked it but it was a little big so i had my sister grab a small.. small fit, i asked her to go pay for it while i got dressed.. i come out.. my sister goes, "he wont let you buy it!" i go ur kidding right.. This right here is what goes down.. true f-in story: the man tells my sister this dress belongs to our design team and you need to go in the front of the store and find another one.. ok stop.. lets break it down right here... isnt that ur job to go do that.. u r telling a customer to go and find another small.. wow.. ok go.. so she walks over there and says uhh you guys dont have anymore smalls.. can you check it the back.. he sighs and then goes i guess.. stop again.. i guess.. WTF! this is your job! OMG! This guy was gone for less than a minute and goes yea everything is out there, nothing is in the back.. did this guy even go into the back.. so i go.. can you call other stores to see if they have it... he goes.. ya no no no we cant.. sorry.. my sister is now pumped.. she is ready to make a scene.. f u design team,... r u serious.. the guy could have ripped off the tag.. and why the hell do they have dresses on the floor to try on but not to buy.. what is this place.. ok ok so it gets worse.. so i go home and go online to buy the dress.. this dress is awesome.. i need this dress.. online is out.. daly city is out.. sf is out.. valley fair is out.. omg i need to get the medium.. so i call hillsdale and i get a chick on the phone who said she would hold it for me till i got there.. i race back to the store.. wait in a 10 minute line to only deal with the same flamboyant man in the first place.. f my life! i go "aaaaa hi a woman said she put a dress on hold for me.. its blue and has white polka dots" and he goes "aaaa what r u talking about.. it is against store policy to put something on hold" so i get sassy at this point and im like well listen im just telling you that she said she would do it for me.. and he goes well the dress is up in the front.. you can go get it if you want it.. AGAIN WOW.. this is a TRUE STORY.. THIS REALLY HAPPENED! I wish this dress wasnt as cute and cheap so I could have just said forget it.. but i needed it.. however i did not need this nonsense.. Their rating for customer service is a 0. I made an in store purchase yesterday - one item. I paid a portion with a gift card and the rest on a credit card. I went into the store today to return it because it didn't fit my daughter and asked for it to be credited back the way I paid - expecting what I paid with my credit card be returned to my credit card. The sales person put the entire credit on a gift card. I told her that's not what I asked for. She told me it was too late and she cannot cancel the transaction. She told me I had to call customer service and resolve it myself. I called the number she gave me and it was to their online store, so they couldn't help me either. They salesperson and manager in the store didn't try to resolve the problem for me at all. I used my own phone to try to resolve the problem myself. read more

Wow, the worst "service" I've experienced in a while. No wonder the majority of ratings are a '1'. Here's what happened to me: A line of 5 people were waiting for the empty dressing room to be unlocked for over 15 minutes, despite repeatedly asking the cashier to send help. Finally 'Tiffany'' shows up but -- rather than apologizing -- she was really nasty and unprofessional when I commented on the lack of service. Then she said I couldn't go in the dressing room with my daughter because they only allow one person at a time -- not only ridiculous for a child, but a blatant lie since there were two people in the dressing room next door. I asked to talk to the manager, but she claimed she was the manager. I gave up and walked out. Unbelievable that Hollister would hire someone for a customer service role who so clearly doesn't like people -- and is so disrespectful of the customer that she'll lie about something so obvious. And if she's actually the manager...unbelievable. On the upside, I then went to Gap where everyone was very friendly and helpful....and I bought $300 worth of adorable clothes for my daughter. read more

The worst store I've ever been in. Susan R. is right on with the whole mannequin bait and switch issue. They do not have what is on the mannequins and you cannot take the item off the mannequin. The "help" in that store there is beyond pathetic. They do not want to help you in any way. You pretty much have to track them down and get in their face or they will ignore you. They are very put out if they have to actually do something for you. The store is so dark you can't find anything or read any of the sizes. The music is so loud you can't carry on a conversation. I will never enter any Hollister store ever again. Beware shoppers, if you see something you like on their mannequins as you walk by, just keep walking. They will not have it in the store and you can not take it off the mannequin. Even though there were 5 mannequins with the exact same sweater on them, I was told they do not have any of those sweaters. Just awful experience all the way around. read more
