At the time I couldn't afford many of the higher-end items, but I learned that there were things within reach that were wonderful for even the young me. They've been around this long for a reason... one of the oldest businesses in the bay area, not to mention Burlingame. Lovely staff, beautiful and timeless clothing. Morning Glory is just what I've been looking for. My favorites include Anthropologie and Nordstroms (when Nordstrom has something unique to offer me) and now Morning Glory too. I've been hoping for an alternative when I can't find something I need and this is the place. I had honestly never been to Burlingame and must admit they have quite a collection of fashion boutiques as well. Although Morning Glory stands out as my favorite. I was blown away by their selection. These ladies who have been active in fashion and business since their teen years really know their stuff. The only other place that I would spend my hard earned money (I'm a teacher!) is one place in far off Mendocino called Rainsong, but I only get there on occasion. So you see I am quite picky. So, if you're picky too and don't mind paying good money for excellent quality, which I never do, then take the time to visit Morning Glory. The staff when I was there were friendly, helpful, and gave just enough attention so that I felt comfortable staying as long as I wanted. They even allowed me and my friend to try on clothes and take pictures so I could catalogue future purchases! My goal is to buy a new piece every month. :) read more

Unless you're a rich white woman from Hillsborough or Burlingame, you get little attention. If you're a brown woman...forget it. No customer service, no greeting, no acknowledgement, nada. However, you do get to hear the yammering of the owners and the sales associates about their suburban lives. From the conversations they have, you'd think they were the first women ever to have kids or a life. I have purchased several items from this store because of the product. As far as the rest of the shopping experience...I need to dye my skin white to get that "lovin feeling". read more

Trendy clothes that remind me of ambiance in SF. A few unique pieces I haven't seen. So if you want something trendy that no one else might have, this is your place. They've got everything from Free People, Nanette Lepore, Frau Brau and Kersh. A shirt can run $40 to $250.There are a few sales here and there so keep an eye out. The sales people are friendly but the service is not consistent. They'd say hi to one customer and not the next. Need to fox that pronto. For the most part, I really like this store and I like the women who work here. I feel that the items have gone through a transition, there are time that I like the selection much more than other times, but the same could be said for anywhere, I suppose... I was extremely offended, however, by an employee at the store last week. I was mid purchase for some $80 leggings for my Mom, when I asked to see a bracelet in the case. The item was very pretty but elastic ...no clasp, just elastic. I did't want an elastic beaded bracelet, not because I could probably make it, but because I enjoy buying items that exhibit nice workmanship. I left the bracelet on the counter, my mom asked if I would be buying it. The associate then said, "oh no, this is expensive!" - so as to imply that I wouldn't be able to purchase it due to the price. To be quite honest, I didn't even look at the price. The truth is, if I like something enough, I'll likely pay whatever the price is on that item. I then responded with, "it's elastic, and it's not expensive, but I don't like it". I think Morning Glory should take a moment to treat their customers, regardless of age, nicely. Because I may not fit the 45+ age demographic of the store does not mean I can't afford an expensive bracelet. I think $80 for leggings is expensive, but I bought them, didn't I? I was and continue to be very offended by my encounter last weekend at Morning Glory and will likely think twice before giving them my business again. read more

Yeah, I got that snobbery feeling too but that's just Burlingame. I never understand how some salespeople are so uppity, especially when they work in expensive stores. It's like, they probably make $8.25 and hour and they're looking at YOU like you're shabby. Just remember that yes, are YOU better than them so remember that when you drop $500 there and they still talk about you when you leave. Never the less, they carry L.A.M.B. so I go there to check out what the 40-something year-old Burlingame mothers who drink in the day time chose not to buy and it wound up on sale. Their loss. Recently the senior director of my dept game me a pair of fingerless gloves from Morning Glory as a token of thanks for the hard work we've put in this year. I really liked them and thought they might be a good gift for a friend, so I decided to go check it out today. What a find! Beautifully made clothing, a great selection of fingerless gloves and lovely jewelry, belts, etc. Not necessarily my style, but for the friend I was shopping for, I thought it was perfect. It sort of reminded me of a romantic/goth-ish store (more romantic than goth). I know that sounds strange, but that's what came to mind. The only negative (as is the case with most boutique like shops) is that the prices are quite high. When I saw the price of my gloves I was shocked! Granted, they are cashmere...but still! Not somewhere I could afford on a regular basis, but for those with the cash, a great store to find some really unique items. read more

I really like this place, and I have been a regular for a long time. I take off a star because the customer service is hit or miss. They either remember me or they do not, talk to me and try to help me or not, and today it was weird. I went in and they were all too engrossed with another customer to help me, so I left, and this has happened to me quite a few times over the years. They things they have in here are cool, and sometimes they have Steam Trunk stuff, and more edgy things. The jewelry and accessories are to die for. Sometimes the edginess is gone, and I keep going in to see if they have new items. They do carry L.A.M.B. at times, and Cop Copine. I will always go in there, for it is a good place to buy more outside the box things, but the service is just not consistent. read more

This place is definitely unique and edgy and pricy. If you have the funds, and are looking for that special unique (outfit, accessory, or piece of jewelry) expect to pay about 30% higher priced than you would expect. I suppose it has to do w/ the location or investment that the artists have in selecting their wholesalers. You can find that great sale and I definitely have taken advantage of those opportunities. I am a sale-deal shopper, but definitely do invest big for things that I like. I love quality and style. --I have to say the style is a 5 on most of the items the quality is sometimes a 2-3. I purchased some ear-rings that I thought would handle my active life style (leaver back earrings) and sadly one would fall out every once in a while, while changing ect...I paid a lot for them and thought that they would care to replace them or that one, and they weren't. It is disappointing that product satisfaction does not appear to be a high priority but I kinda get it. Don't agree w/ it, but accept it. I've been lucky and have encountered similar situations where the store would negotiate something to replace something... Another awesome adorable shirt that I bought, the button fell off...but it's still cute and amendable, but still...it fell off and it was button on the neck. Will I come back? While disappointed in this quaint local store, I am sure that I will browse, maybe I might still buy something (but only if it's on sale). read more

This is a great store. The first time I stopped by here was several years ago in high school and naturally the stuff was just too expensive for me to even comprehend. I came back every once in a while, but didn't get a chance to buy anything until today -- a great top, exactly what I had been looking for for months, and on sale for $29! Both sales assistants were friendly and helpful and they'll offer to tailor anything that doesn't fit right. I've read a lot of reviews about them being snooty, but I appreciate that they don't breathe down my neck about helping me or getting a dressing room started until I'm ready. The other times I'd been here they were a little colder towards me, but when you had a pimply 15 year old in a Mervyn's hoodie pawing at your $300 dresses, I'm sure you'd be a little put off. As long as you look like you actually might buy something, it'll be fine. So give it a try. Some of their clothes are just weird, but there are other really cute things too, and everything is unique. This review is long overdue since Morning Glory is, by far, my favorite clothing store on the peninsula. The staff is so warm and helpful and the fact that they can provide quick, reasonable alterations is a big plus for this tiny girl! The shopping experience starts with the window displays which are always somewhat dark and whimsical. Though the shop is now smaller, there is still a great selection of clothing that is appropriate for work, weekends and after hours. While I have to agree that some of the prices can be somewhat steep, they carry quality brands that I consider investment pieces and they can easily be worked into a wardrobe of basics. I have several items that I purchased many years ago that I still wear often since they transcend faddish, "juniory" trends. Mo's gloves are adorable and the vintage-looking jewelry selection is great if you're looking for a really interesting piece to set off an outfit. read more

I have popped into Morning Glory for more years than I'll admit to you! I think I liked their aesthetic better in the past, but it's still worth a look, and they are still a very important boutique in a world where unique boutiques are vanishing for soulless chain stores, so for that I give a very deep bow to Morning Glory. But I do wish they had more edgy clothes and certainly more European clothes. I find too much stuff made in China here which is ho-hum. The Stevie Nicks vibe was great back in the day, but now it's so tired (she doesn't even dress that way) and frankly the clothes are bordering babe-slut wear. Wi The stores I go to tend to be Phyllis, J Foss (both in Palo Alto) Little Black Dress in Tiburon, and J James in Sonoma so you can get a feel for my aesthetic. If only I had more money! Nothing is cheap. Often you can find good deals on the sale rack. You can always find that special something for almost any occassion. The owner has been there every time I've gone there, and knows me by name. If something doesn't fit just right they have someone that does alterations for a reasonable price. They're really nice and very helpful. They have many small design brands, and many unusual items and a good size range, or at least I find many things to fit my very long legs. I was in the store earlier today, made a purchase and, as I was walking out saw a coat I wanted to try on. I took it off the rack and asked the lady how to unclasp the button so I could try it on (mind you it was about 5:03) and she rudely said to me, "we close at five and we're all trying to go home." I was so shocked I put the coat on the outside of the rack and her response was sarcastically, "oh, that's okay, I'll put it away." Here's the deal, Mo, one of the owners, is amazing. She is eclectic, creative, funny, and makes those really cool fingerless gloves you might have seen in SF pretty much all over the place. The store itself is a work of art. As I'm always saying, I own a store too and I only wish I could have the ideas she has for doing the amazing, goth, creepy but beautiful windows. I also love everything in the store. I really do. The jewelry is absolutely stunning and I love me some jewelry. The clothes are way cooler than anything you (or I) are wearing right now and you will always look like a European fashion star in everything you buy there but... I know, I had to add a but. We can only shop here on very special occasions, like on my daughter's 15th bday this weekend. She used ALL her bday money (and that girl got way too much thank you) on a skirt and putting some down on layaway for a dress. They are pretty damn expensive. I'm not hating. I LOVE this store. I just don't shop at places this high level so it shocks me to pay $172 for a skirt and $196 for a one piece dress but hey. My daughter did look freaking gorgeous in her skirt and everyone everywhere in SF told her so...You can find select things on sale and then it's good, but I have to also tell you that if you are of the ample-assed variety, like me, NO pants they have will fit you. I had been shopping there since the early '80's being that I lived down the street on the residential side of B.A. They have evolved very..and I mean VERY little since then..The Fleetwood Mac style should be put to rest as well as some other items I swear I bought from them back in 1993!!
