I waited a little over a year to have my wedding dress cleaned (which I learned is pretty early) The bottom of my dress was so dirty!! I walked through town in it on my wedding day and was so nervous they wouldn't be able to get all the dirt and marks out. I called before going in and spoke with Angus who specializes in working with the bridal cleaning team. Angus is the best. When I came in he looked at the dress with me so we could both point out marks. He then walked me through their extensive process as well as timeline. The best part is they do not send out the dresses to be cleaned. Everything stays on site. They only send it off site if it is being preserved. I wasn't ready to do that just 10/10 and beyond experience. I also really appreciated them staying in constant contact with me through the process. I brought in my expensive jacket for cleaning and waited a ridiculous THREE WEEKS for it to be ready. When I finally picked it up, the jacket wasn't cleaned at all--it came back just as dirty as when I dropped it off! If I hadn't inspected it right there on the spot, I'm convinced they would've gaslighted me and called me a liar for complaining. I was not able to receive my jacket back until I paid them $73. That's $73 for keeping my coat for 3 weeks. What a deal! But the real kicker was the manager, Angus. This guy was beyond rude--arrogant, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. Instead of apologizing or offering a refund, he had the audacity to suggest sending it out AGAIN to the same third-party service that botched it the first time. We were long-time customers of Holly Cleaners, originally referred by the Chanel Boutique in Boston. For years, we trusted them with high-end items and expected a level of care that matched their reputation. Unfortunately, recent experiences have shown a serious decline in both quality and accountability. In mid-May, they returned a designer jacket with damaged buttons. Shortly after, we dropped off a second order that included six sheer curtain panels along with other clothing. That order had missed stains, was unpressed, and had untreated wool fuzz -- despite being processed under their most expensive "Holly" service. We were afraid they would damage these items as well and had to clean, press, and correct everything ourselves. The real issue came with the six sheer curtain panels, which were in excellent condition. One had been gently hand-washed at home and came out fine, but we weren't sure we could safely clean the rest ourselves. That's why we turned to Holly Cleaners. When we dropped them off, Angus (the store manager) told us they don't typically dry-clean sheers and that Susan (the co-owner) would decide on the method. Susan later called and, despite expressing concerns about dry-cleaning, said the label read "Dry Clean Only" and that we should proceed. When we asked what to do with the already hand-washed panel, she said, "Let's clean it too -- it's only $50." We were never asked to sign a waiver or risk acknowledgment, and no test panel was cleaned first. A few days later, Susan called to say that three curtains had been damaged. But when we visited the store and inspected the panels in person, we found that five out of six were visibly damaged -- torn or disintegrating. We asked for reimbursement based on the original purchase price, which totaled $818.15 with tax. We did not ask for the current retail replacement value, which is now nearly double. Susan refused and offered only a $100 store credit, which we declined. We have no intention of returning and would not entrust them with any future cleaning. In later correspondence, Susan claimed that multiple staff had warned us and that we "accepted the risk." This is misleading. Angus specifically said Susan would decide. Jeff (the owner and Susan's husband) also deferred to her. Ultimately, only Susan advised the cleaning method. We even offered to hand-wash the remaining panels ourselves, but she chose to proceed. That decision -- made without testing and without a signed waiver -- was hers, not ours. We have filed a formal complaint with the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office and are awaiting a response. We are posting this review to share our experience and warn others, especially those trusting Holly Cleaners with delicate or expensive items. Please find photos of the hat and sweater that you claim NOT to be ruined- and refuse to reimburse me- Exact same sweater- same size but different color and there is absolutely a size issue by 1 1/2" on either size that Holly made the sweater larger dry cleaning it- pressed flat and wider! Hat is completely out of shape- same beanie style hat and almost a 3" size enlargement from your dry cleaning! Holly cleaners- 22 year customer since Mike Davidson owned the business and lost my account for good-and my clients that I have referred ! DO NOT USE Holly Cleaners or entrust the Davidson owners to do the right thing EVER - believe all the one star reviews over the last 1-5 months. I brought my Shearling coat to the Newton store for cleaning, driving 40 mins from the North Shore based on their 5-star reviews and reputation. After reading the care label on the coat, the staff person informed me the coat would be sent to one of their "premier" third party partners who do their fur cleaning. I signed the waiver, confident and trusting in again the 5 star reviews, reputation and awards. And reading the website specifically on fur cleaning stating: "Our knowledgeable staff will consut with you regarding the proper treatment of your garment.....you can be confident your garment is protected." COULD NOT BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH - NO CONSULTING, NOTHING!!! Getting my coat back, the ivory-colored silk lining and trim were damaged (the silk sheen dulled) and discolored to gray. Angus, the Newton store manager could not have been ruder, more belligerent. After I reluctantly agreed to a second cleaning, the coat came back in the same condition. EVEN acknowledging the cleaning process caused the damage, Angus stated he'd discussed the situation with the owner and basically said "too bad, you signed a waiver". After numerous requests to talk to Jeff Davidson, the owner, he did not have the decency or professionalism to call and speak with me directly, hiding behind the store manager Angus to do the dirty work. Any 5-star, reputable cleaner would stand by their service and the third party businesses they partners with, DO THE RIGHT THING and compensate me for the cost of the coat. Follow up with Holly Cleaners: They have refused to accept any responsibility for destroying a precious one of a kind heirloom, have lied about the measures they claim they took, and have offered nothing in terms of compensation. The photos below show how the blanket came apart and what it looked like after the so-called expert repair. I learned a long time ago that when life takes something away from you, let it go. However, this is not right. Holly Cleaners is a big business with expensive prices. Yet, if you read the comments of the other people that it has wronged, its management (and presumably its owner, Mr. Davidson), never seem to be wrong or to make a mistake. I strongly recommend you do not use Holly Cleaners. They are not ethical, and will not take responsibility for destroying your clothes in cleaning. This, apparently, becomes your problem. Here's what happened: I brought a dress to be dry cleaned, showed it to the manager, and asked if it needed any special care. Angus said no and it would be fine. Days later, he called to say that the lining was destroyed in cleaning, so he would not charge me for the cleaning. I asked that the lining be repaired or replaced, and at first, he was trying to charge me for that. As this damage was CAUSED by the cleaning, I suggested that this was unreasonable and asked that they simply return the dress in the same condition that I brought it in. When their own seamstress apparently didn't know how to fix it, I suggested they use mine, or any other person they find. Angus refused and said that 'management' had decided that they would only offer me money off on future cleanings. I live close to Newton Center and occasionally use Holly Cleaners for some tailoring. They're always thorough and do a bang-up job. Yesterday I came in because I have to attend an out-of-state funeral. My dress had a hole in it that I didn't realize until that day. They fixed it right then and there. I didn't have to wait at all and they didn't charge me for the repair. The manger and employee's kindness meant everything to me. It's one thing to provide excellent service, it's quite another to be kind to your customers. This saved me, a seven months pregnant woman, from having to go through the hassle of buying a new dress. If ZERO was possible, that would haver been my rating. I asked to have a zipper replaced on my outerwear jacket. When I picked it up the zipper was replaced on the OPPOSITE side. When I spoke with the manager he said that there was nothing wrong with the zipper and that he was NOT AWARE that men and women had outerwear zippers on opposite sides. I requested it be replaced zippering on the right side and he refused nor would he refund the $75 charge. Not only was the repair done improperly but he alienated a customer who has used that branch for 15+ years. As a manager, all he wanted to do was try to convince me that there was nothing wrong with the zipper yet he never acknowledged that it was on the wrong side. CHAT GPT produced the following. "On a men's outdoor jacket, the zipper is typically located on the right side when you're wearing the jacket. This means the zipper pull is on the right-hand side This is the standard for men's clothing in many parts of the world, while women's jackets usually have the zipper pull on the left side." There is a saying that, "you're only as good as your last job." While I don't agree with this I think that if your performance is lacking it's how you handle a mistake that matters. I've brought designer clothing to Holly Cleaners for several years, they have done a pretty good job. In October 2022 I brought in my summer clothes for cleaning. I had a new Mara Max linen blazer I purchased in the summer of 2022 and when I took it out of the Holly Cleaners wrappers several weeks ago it no longer fit. My weight has not changed and when the almost new, $1,700 blazer was brought in to Holly for dry cleaning it fit beautifully. When we first explained the situation to them they stated we were mistaken, they did nothing wrong. They later offered $100 in free cleaning. I brought in two Theory suits to get dry cleaned (not designer, but pretty expensive, ~$300 each). I called beforehand and asked what they recommended, they said they have regular service and "hand dry-clean service", but said regular service is fine for most things except for high-end designer suits. So I chose the regular service. One of the suits I received had large white stains on it (it's a black suit, so it's noticeable), that were not there before I dropped it off for dry cleaning. After a few weeks, I tried on the navy blue suit that I brought in and discovered it had shrunken to the point that it's very uncomfortable to wear. I emailed them telling them they shrunk my suit and they did not respond. This is very upsetting - I only have 2 suits and I am a student and cannot afford to buy replacement suits. Worst experience with a cleaner ever. While visiting with children and grandchildren in Newton on way to a wedding in Montana, my only jacket was soiled with food. Called Holly Friday 6/10, spoke with owner Jeff and explained that I was leaving Tuesday 6/14 at 6am. He said no problem, ready by Saturday afternoon. When I delivered jacket the person at counter asked if Monday 6/13 at 4pm was OK, and I said great, but it HAD to be ready then. On Monday at 5pm it was not ready, told me nonchalantly to come Tuesday, which was impossible as I was leaving that day at 6am. Took them 1/2 hour to find the jacket, not pressed, and still marked. I recently (early Feb) opened an account there because my dry cleaner of 30 years closed. When I opened the account, Kewon told me that they offer a 20% discount on sweaters during your birthday month. Lucky me. My birthday is in February. But I have now been there twice and they will not honor the promotion. I was just there today with some sweaters and all they could tell me was that I needed a coupon. I saw so many good reviews and got referred by a friend to this place. So honestly, i was expecting some great service. Front desk people are very nice however the management needs to be worked on. And they need to know better of their service especially know how much time they are going to need to clean a piece. The staff told me my cloth would be done before certain date and then later i was informed that it is wrong and they wont finish that on time. It is very inconvenient for me since i trusted them in saying it would be done on time. And now i dont even have time to find a new place. I appreciate them telling me in the end they are not able to get the work done on the promise time. WORST CLEANERS EXPERIENCE. NEVER GOING BACK!!!!! This was my first visit fo holly cleaners in Newton, MA to dry clean my white cardigan and a black dress. The workers glanced at the clothes and informed me that it will be done by couple of days. Once I picked up my clothes I was in shock. My black dress was in a state that I was no longer able to wear. My white cardigan originally had some stains but the stain remained but there were color change added to it. I talked with the manager (Cassie). She told me that if you do dry cleaning there will be a discoloration. I was really disappointed with this outcome. Cassie the manager told me that she could try to do it again. She told me that it will be ready by Monday (which was not ready when I went back on Wednesday and she told me she never said that it would be ready by Monday). I went back on Saturday and my clothes were so much different from what I expected: white cardigan turned into boney-yellowish color and the black dress was completely ruined. When I asked her what happened, she told me that CLOTHES ARE SUPPOSE TO GO BAD after certain time and the color always changes whenever we dry clean them. This is what I don't understand-First, I only wore these clothes few times, have previously dry cleaned them but had no such experience. Even if there could be a discoloration, shouldn't the manager inform me first before they let them ruin my clothes? Second, the manager's attitude was absolutely horrible. She never APOLOGIZED. I wasn't expecting a reimbursement or a refund but don't customers deserve at least an apology if their clothes don't turn out to be what they expected? She kept repeating that it is not her fault and my clothes are simply OLD (They are not old and was worn only few times). She even told me to contact the company where I bought the clothes from, and complain about the discoloration after dry cleaning. I mean, I never had this experience when I dry cleaned them at another store so why is this the clothing shop's fault? The clothes were not even cheap. When I first went in, the workers told me they could do it and that's why I trusted. If she told me she could not clean it, I wouldn't have minded going to another store to get them cleaned. Holly Cleaners is a gem. From my expertly laundered and neatly pressed dress shirts, to my wife's beautifully dry cleaned knits, to everything in between, Holly is best in class both in terms of quality and service. As an executive, I live and work in "dressy" clothes and my wife is a professional consultant. So we rely heavily on our dry cleaner. Prior to Holly, my wife and I and used Anton's, Zoots and various "mom and pop" shops for dry cleaning. These other companies weren't bad, but they were consistently inconsistent. One time fine, the next, not so much. What's worse, the quality seemed to diminish over time as the hangars got cheaper, more buttons got broken and mistakes made during the pressing of the clothes were simply ignored. We had begun to believe that dry cleaners were all just mediocre and inconsistent. Enter Holly. Right away, we noticed that our clothes started to look and smell better. Also, we noticed little differences like better quality hangars, extra care on packaging and very few, if any, mistakes in term of the finished products. As a specific example, I had a couple of expensive shirts with buttons that had cracked using a different dry cleaner. With Holly, not only were the buttons perfectly replaced (color and size), but the shirts were packaged differently, with extra care being taken to keep them pressed when returned. It's this type of extra care and consideration that sets Holly apart and this is only one limited example of several that we have experienced. It's always puzzling to us to see aggressively negative reviews of highly reputable businesses on Yelp. One marginal or negative experience should NEVER be the basis of a bad business review particularly when there are always two sides to every story and perceptions and realities often differ dramatically. In this case, our review is based on regular and consistent experiences over a long period of time including our giving the other dry cleaners the benefit of any doubt. I rarely write reviews but the experience I had with Holly Cleaners was so egregious and badly handled that I feel compelled to share it. I'd planned to sell my wedding gown after "the big day," and was nervous about handing it over to just any cleaner; so I was relieved when I discovered Hollys. Attracted by their family run reputation & advertisements that they perform ALL their services on site, including specialty bridal cleaning, I decided to trust them with my designer gown. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a big mistake. Several weeks after handing over the gown to Hollys, my dress was returned to me sealed in a preservation box, despite the fact I'd given the manager explicit instructions that the dress was only to be cleaned, not "preserved" (aka boxed & sealed for long term storage). Unfortunately, this was just the first of many more unexpected "surprises." The box had another companies name on it, 'Bridal Kare.' I later learned this was a huge dress processing company in NY AND where my dress was ACTUALLY cleaned. In other words, Holly's claims that they perform ALL their services on site are patently FALSE ...unless of course Buffalo NY is now part of Newton Ma. To make matters far worse, when I opened the box, my gown, which was in nearly pristine condition when I dropped it off, was visibly damaged. The bodice had been crudely attached to a cardboard bust form with nearly a dozen plastic dress tags shot directly and haphazardly through it's fine fabric. A "standard process" Holly later defended as one their "bridal experts" always employ. "Standard" or not, I don't know what kind of "expert" would think shoving the large needle of a tag gun through a fine fabric would be a good idea. The result? The shoulder of the dress had a visible hole in it and the silk skirt, which was balled up carelessly at the bottom of the box now had a strange area of crude "repair work" on the silk skirt where no damage previously existed. Upon contacting Holly - and there were multiple phone calls and emails - they took the position that the only mistake they had made was "putting the dress in a box." They even went so far as to blame me for the damage. Claiming it was due to my having opened the box to remove the dress myself. First off, the idea that I damaged the dress myself is not only patently FALSE but also absurd. The whole idea of storing a wedding gown in a preservation box is to protect it until its removed years later. If the dress can't be safely taken out - whats the point of protecting it ?!? In any event, my dress wasn't supposed to have been boxed at all and I discovered the damage when the dress was still IN the box, photographed it, and immediately contacted Holly Cleaners to report it. Eventually, weeks later, I was able to meet with the manager. She'd had vacation plans on EVERY date that I'd tried to come in leading up to then - and the owner had refused to meet with me during her absence. They offered to have their seamstress "repair" the hole. Unfortunately, their seamstress only confirmed what I'd already been told by several other repair experts (including micro-weaving specialist) while waiting to meet Holly's Manager; repairing the ripped fabric was not possible. At best, some sort of patch could be constructed. Upon notifying the owner that this was not an acceptable solution (after all, even "patched" it's value and my future ability to resell it would now be radically altered) he continued to deny responsibility and was non responsive to the possibility of an insurance claim. Eventually, the situation devolved to the point where I felt filling a small claims case was my only option. To my surprise (although after all this maybe it's not that surprising) Holly's manager and its owner continued to push their false narrative to the Magistrate, even in the face of physical and written evidence to the contrary. In the end, the Magistrate found in my favor; though it's hard to consider anything about this whole situation to have been a 'win.' There are myriad ways in which Holly could have handled this situation better. At the end of the day, had they been truthful and acknowledged responsibility I wouldn't be writing this. I realize that a damaged wedding dress, however expensive, isn't the end of the world. What bothered me most though was their continued lying when confronted with clear evidence of their false advertising and the smug sense I got from the owner that he had no problem accusing his own customers of anything and everything to cover up his mistakes. My take away, if you are considering bringing anything of value to Holly Cleaners to be cleaned, don't. Just don't. In fact I'd suggest you just avoid them all together. There are plenty of other cleaners with good reputations out there; & hey if you really want to have your dress cleaned by "Holly" you can just save yourself an extra $200-300 by sending it directly to Bridal Kare instead. Had my favorite, expensive sweater cleaned here. Picked it up and now it longer fits me. I did not gain weight!!!! As of matter of fact I have lost weight. They shrunk my designer sweater and insist they can fix it by blocking it. Well they tried that and I still can't get my arms in it. This was my most comfortable roomy sweater and now it clings to me, and I can't move in it! They refuse to reimburse me! They are insured for this and do not even want to make good on this. Never use this cleaner. They may be able to get stains out but have no customer service and treat their customers like you know what. When you bring an expensive designer wedding gown to a cleaners that claims to provide ALL their services on site, you don't expect to find out your gown was actually shipped to another state. When you ask that your dress NOT be put through a preservation process, you don't expect to receive it back jammed in a preservation box. When you TRUST your gown a to be cleaned you certainty don't expect to get it back damaged. That's probably not the "expert bridal care" and "museum quality wedding gown preservation" your customers envision they are getting. Most of all, Jeff, when you call a reputable company who's truly proud to stand behind all their services (even the ones they outsource - How many years did you tell me you have "proudly" been working with 'Bridal Kare'?!?) to explain that you've discovered concealed damage (torn fabric, not a missing button) on your "mistakenly boxed" gown and would like to file an insurance claim - you do not expect your request to be refused on the basis of a fully fabricated, unsubstantiated, accusation that you damaged it yourself. I get it Jeff, it's just a dress - but if someone cracks the windshield of your car while cleaning it, you expect them to replace the windshield, you don't expect them to insist covering it up with a bumper sticker solves the problem. My review Jeff isn't about me, it's about your business practices, it's about making sure the same story doesn't happen to countless others - but that's clearly not your concern. I brought in a hand knit blanket to be cleaned and was very satisfied with the results, but when I tried to use a First Time Coupon from their website, I was told the coupon had to be brought in at the time of dropoff, not the time of payment. This seems confusing to me because I would think you would use the coupon when you pay, and it didn't say otherwise anywhere in the email, but no matter - I paid the full price. I am happy to own when it is my mistake. However, when I told the woman who was helping me that I thought they should make their policy more clear, I was met with snark and dismissiveness. She snapped that she doesn't make the policies, which I absolutely understand, but I did not feel the unkindness was necessary. I am happy with the outcome of my blanket and I will return again if I need to but did leave with a negative taste in my mouth after picking up my item. read more

Wouldn't use anyone else! Far superior to other dry cleaners in the area. Holly has taken care of my suits, shirts, and ties for years. I've never had any problems and am always greeted with smiling faces. I recently moved to Chicago and they even mail articles to my apartment halfway across the country. read more

My experience was good. Took a week to get the 2 pieces I dropped off. Staff was sweet but they just left out information on how soon I could pick my garments up. They simply just stated I could get the items in a week. I said it was a little long and they replied that it can be sooner if I want. I just think that that information should be given. My garments look fantastic though, so great job there! read more
