This is a review of the in-store bakery and their "Princess" cake. My Aussie daughter-in-law remembered the princess cake growing up. I had no idea about what it is. To celebrate a birthday i arrived at Lunardi's hoping the bakery had a Princess cake for us. We were greeted by the friendly staff and assured they had the cake in 2 colors, pinkish and greenish. We wanted to personalize it with a birthday greeting which the quickly did as we waited. On Google, a princess cake is a Swedish domed confection of layered sponge cake with raspberry jam, a custard layer covered in a smooth green marzipan dome. Precisely what we got. It was delicious. Not overly sweet, great texture and flavors. It's going to be one of my favorites from now on. Highly recommend you try one. It's a small cake maybe 6 inches square but packed with flavor. read more

I like this store though it is a little pricey. Some of the hot food is good but I do feel that it is over priced. I got the plate today. It costs $16 but you only get 2 ribs that are kind of small and one of mine didn't have much meat on the bone so it felt more like one rib. It's good but I feel it should come with at least 3 ribs. The bread that came with it today was part of a Dutch crunch roll and tasted stale. Sometimes they have good drinks if you are thirty in the refrigerated section. read more

I shop frequently at Burlingame Lunardi's. Great store. But today I did my shopping for the holiday at the Belmont Lunardi's. I was shocked. The fans in the meat/fish looked like they were the originals from when the store was opened. There were large brown spots on the ceiling in many places. I will not be returning. The place was so rundown I had to question whether the produce, deli and meat/fish were adversely effected. Good location and good service are not enough. Remodel or move! read more

Polly , the head cashier, was rude. Most of the time, the experience is great. But she made me not want to go back to Lunatdi's.

If I can give a zero star I will. Every two days they take down my review. Why you may ask...well because this store is Racist and do not want ppl to find out how racist their employees are. They still want your money but they have zero clue in keeping their customers not feel threatened. Unsure if it's just something they are now accustomed to with current administration. They blatantly removed my review and that's fine. I will keep on posting. March 28th, my wife came in to buy a few items. She ended up in the ETHNIC aisle. Looking for couscous and pasta. Here she is minding her own business when their young employee walking towards her. She see that he is saying something. Paused her audio and ask him What did he just trying to say? He gesturing her with premade sushi in his hand. He asked her if this was hers? She was offended thinking why would it be hers? So she asked why would it be? He said(no filter non whatsoever) because she was looking at the same shelves where this was and she was in this aisle. So it must be hers. She got mad and said because she was looking at something in this aisle so it must be her who irresponsibly left perishable food on the shelf? Did this kid think before he speak? He not only insulted her by accusing her of doing something she didn't. He went another step by assuming she is Asian so that means she must eat sushi. She just walked away and ignored this dumb kid. If he would apologize then it would end there but no apology or own up the mistake. Now there's consequences of his actions. Go check your damn store cameras. This review is strictly on the deli/meat section of the store. The deli is great. The service I receive when I go in the mornings is commendable. They slice the deli meat as you order so there are never slimy, bacteria, or gross wet meats like other delis. They use 1/3 of a pound of meat for each sandwich. Prices have gone up, but not expensive due to costs rising. (Currently $9.99) The manager and I had a conversation while I was waiting for my sandwich. They prepare their roast beef and do not add anything weird to it which is made in-house. The meat department has great service as well! They do not have any packaged meat and there is a full-service counter to order whatever you need. They butcher their meats as it comes in. A real steal is their marinated steaks! They have various marinated types of meat. My favorites are the ribeyes and New York steaks for $13.99/lb. They also have marinated filet mignon and skirt steak that are great as well. Lunardis may be more expensive than your other options like Safeway, but quality and service are the tops there! read more

My family has been shopping here since we moved to the Bay Area since 1996. Compared to other supermarkets, their produce, deli, breads, cheeses, and meat selection are fantastic. They don't exactly have the variety of modern processed foods found at places like Safeway, but given their founder's Italian heritage, they seem to have a large selection of Italian items. Their meats dept is exceptional and I wanted to recognize an recent example. I placed an order for a leg of lamb with some special instructions to remove the bone, but still crack the shank and wrap it all back so I could roast the boneless meat wrapped around the bone. The butcher, Julio, took the time to call me and confirm the instructions! What butcher does that? BTW, I am a person of color and I've never had anything but friendly interactions with *all* the staff. Yes, staff come and go, but to date, all have been friendly and thoughtful. Surprised at what other customers have experienced. I have going to Lunardi's for years and love shopping there. The meat department people are great and especially patient when I go in there going from one side to the other selecting my meats, seafoods, etc. for the week. There is a large selections of vegetables and fruits. Never a long wait in line - once a few people are in line, others are called to open up new lines I found the employees I have dealt with to be very nice and helpful. read more

There's a skinny, short blonde who's a cashier that is very rude and dismissive of people of color. She looks young but probably older. Totally unacceptable and should be addressed. Also Banjamin in the deli just ignores people who pull numbers in the deli. Chooses who he wants to help first. Unbelievable. read more

I always enjoy a trip to Lunardi's. They have stuff my usual grocery store (Safeway) does not carry and they have a great meat and produce department. If you want good meat, this is the place to go to. Very high quality and the people behind the counter know what they are talking about. I have bought chicken, pork, and beef from here and have been happy with each purchase. Also, produce is a notch higher in quality here than average. I refuse to buy stone fruit Safeway as the fruit turns to crap before it ripens. But I have had much better luck here, particularly with their donut peaches. And if you like good qualify chicken broth, Imagine chicken broth is the best here. To top it all off, the people here are always nice. read more

The store itself is clean, the staff for the most part, is great!! There is just one person who sticks out, Nick, he is rude and vile. He always looks like he hates his life and he ignores customers when they approach to ask a question. He is like that every visit I have been at the store. I just moved to Belmont because I love the small town vibes and I've been to several establishments in town and they;re all consistently friendly. I shop several markets all over the Bay area but have never tried a Lunardi's and since it's literally a few steps away from my home, I thought I check it out. The first 2 visits were just ok-- selection is typical of a local market, prices are ok, customer service was just ok (blah) but I did hear a customer of a color behind me in line tell his friend "I guess what they say is true about this place" I was a bit surprised to hear that about a small market, never thought such place would have a reputation. 3rd visit tonight on my way home and forgot a few things. I go up to the register but this older blonde short lady literally stared me up and down while she is placing groceries on the conveyor belt. I didn't realized she worked there and was purchasing items as she's also working I think. As the cashier is ringing her up, she continues to stare at me and does not say a thing or ask another cashier to help me while she gets her families groceries rung up. Soon as I go to the register, she goes up to another employee and chats away as they both stare at me. The cashier helping me doesn't apologize for the wait but also stares at me as I'm handing him my TWO items. As I'm leaving I hear the blondish cashier (Madeline the night manager) ask the next person she can help him at her register. I ask one of the other employees what her name is and as he also looks at me crazy but does provide me her name. After reading all these previous reviews, Madeline is blatantly racist and disrespectful. If you're a person of color, you WILL BE JUDGED. Don't expect to get that nice homey feel unless you are caucasion or an elderly shopper. I hate that people have to experience this kind of service with people like Madeline and how is it that Lundardi's despite all the complaints about her, still has her working AS A MANAGER. From what I observed my 3 visits there, you'll feel like you're back in time to the 1950s (ambiance and all) and will get treated as such. The older employees are still in that same 1950s mentality and even look the part. If you're a person of color, do NOT shop there unless you don't mind being disrespected and really desperate to pick something up but don't say I didn't warn ya. read more

I like lunardis. The prices could be better, and sometimes you walk out scratching your head. I like the deli and sandwiches. They are often busy and backed up yet always are friendly. The bakery could be better. Why are their so many flies? Can't they use fly strips? The meat department I also above par. Not cheap. And the produce is the best. read more

If you are looking for that local adorable family grocery store, this is it. Every time I go here, it's like stepping into my childhood. Staff are friendly, place is clean. Prices are a tad bit higher than your box Safeway. If you happen to be an ice cream addict, they sell creamy tubs of different flavors. We enjoy browsing the beer area in the back. Another nostalgia item, they sell Donald Duck orange juice! We haven't had much to do with the deli. I don't eat meat. Or else I'd purchase a sandwich. With shelter in place, I have a much greater appreciation for the role supermarkets play in the community, and so glad that Lunardi's is here. Been going here several years, and the cashier/front of store service has always been very good. They also have a lot of harder to find items like seeded watermelon (when in season), good everyday prices on hearth breads like Acme, and a high quality selection of yummy things like ice cream and hot dogs. They also offered a free bakery cookie to the little one, which is a very nice touch. read more

Live walking distance to Lunardis & come 2-3 X / week mainly for their fruits & veggies & tho I have been coming here since they opened in Belmont & have come a zillion times, I do not even get a look of recognition from their cashiers. Over the years there have been a few welcoming employees but they never seemed to last long. Exceptions are their produce people who are always happy to help you & their butchers who also are jovial & helpful. read more

I like Lunardis, market in Belmont. i love the service, when lines at the check out get long they always call for more service, The food is a great selection but over the years it has had less and less of a focus on Italian foods. However their bread selection is rather poor, actually rather horrible the bread never seems to be fresh, and the Lunardis brand is never soft, We live within walking distance but we always have to go a long car ride to get bread at the market in SanCarlos. I wish Lunardis would get a supplier of fresher and better tasteing bread, after all this is the Bay Area, and bread should always be top notch! Also, the sandwiches and soups are much better elsewhere. The food at their deli always looks bad and disgusting. too bad for lunardis, The sushi is very good though, Shopping is a nice pleasant expeirence, here, I think all the people I have intereacted with are fine and helpful. Hmmm. Ever been to a place that serves cakes and they cant write Happy Birthday on a cake?? Me neither, but this lunardi does not. I've gone to lunardi's in Pleasant Hill and had no problem there. Limited selection on cakes and pastries. The one helping me wasnt very friendly either. Guys at the checkout were nicer. Wouldn't come back here. I find it odd they deleted my review the first time so I'm reposting an edited version. Seems like they don't want people to know about their very bad customer service. This place has some of the most rudest employees I ever encountered. This is is specifically for their meat department! There's some incredibly rude and impatient elderly men working there. If you don't like your job then quit. They acted as if I was not about to spend my money with them. One of them was even the manager of the meat department so it's shocking. The guy who "helped" me even got sarcastic with me. I told him he could just go do what he needs to do while I wait for an answer from someone on my phone on what to buy. But he rather instead looked me dead in my eyes with a straight and rude face, leaned on the counter and put both hands on his face like he was bored and said "no I'll wait". It's like ok then well that's on you then. His manager stepped in and told me "we got work to do" I said ok and I told him he could go do what he needs to do and I'll reach out when I have an answer rather instead making me feel uncomfortable and acting impatient I even apologized and he didn't say anything to me. It's my first time here and I was looking around to check out the new place. I went to the deli and ordered the panini sandwich. The deli clerk needs to follow food safety rules. I order a panini sandwich and it was fine. But while I was waiting, I watched him sweeping the floor and using the dustpan with his blue gloves. When he finished, he went straight to my panini without changing his blue gloves. I ask him: can you please change your gloves? Yes, he did and the other deli employee helped him give me my panini. Negative abusive Experience detailed Below: I like to go to Lunardi's because it is a small neighborhood store where I knowingly pay a premium but I enjoy the thought of supporting a local store, their employees, and assist in helping keep local economy healthy. Please read though my experience and give me your thoughts on what you would have done or share if similar negative experiences happened to you. I called the store and was told they have a common problem with this particular employee and the negative behavior has been brought up to management before. Description: Female Brown Blonde Hair Age: late 30s - late 40s Name: I will not list On August 27, wI was absolutely shocked when a cashier at Lunardi's aggressively screamed at me and lunged towards me then pushed my cart more than once while screaming "get out!" for simply having a grocery bag. I had my own bag to put the few items I planned on purchasing and that completely made this one cashier go ballistic. I understand and have read that grocery stores are not doing the normalized pre-Covid routine of touching customer's personal grocery bags and putting groceries into them. I understand that change in policy and did not expect or want the cashier to touch my bag at all. I was going to put my groceries into the cart myself. This cashier screamed at me "bags are NOT Allowed in this store get out now!" Of course this is after I already paid for my groceries so it was awkward situation. She throws my groceries at the end of the cashier area while screaming get out while pointing at the door. I quickly try to grab my items and place them into the cart which upsets her even more. She lunges at me and dumps produce into the cart then pushes it. While berating me loudly. I said in a calm voice "I am already leaving." She pushes my cart aggressively again pointing at the door while screaming "GET OUT!". In a calm tone I said "You don't have to be so rude" then leave. This was such an unsettling abusive experience! Let's just say if it was on video it would upset most people. I called the store to speak to the manager and surprise surprise it is the same cashier that proudly announced she is the night manager. I tried to give her the benefit of doubt and think maybe she was having a bad day but then I realized she was sweet as pie with the next customer in line that she invited into the cashier area way before I was done with my transaction and had a sweet tone when I called the store about 25 minutes later. Perhaps she was concerned about the health risk with customers having their own bags? If she was concerned about Covid she would have not invited the next customer in line to walk up behind and get with in 2-3 feet of me and she would not have violently lunged towards me to push my cart and scream into my face which is not appropriate social distancing either. I felt threatened on multiple levels considering Covid precautions and her physically lunging towards me while verbally abusing me. No one mentioned this policy to me before and she didn't even say anything though out the whole transaction till after I paid. It is a rather upsetting experience and I will think twice before I go into Lunardi's in Belmont again. I would rather drive further to support a store with nice employees. I've always had such a pleasant experience at this Lunardi's location. The cashiers are so welcoming and friendly and makes me feel special. There is the cutest and sweetest bagger girl, I wanna say her name was Isabella. She kindly asked me what type of bag I wanted and proceeded to pack my groceries gently and treated the items with so much care. She even helped me take my groceries out to my car and we had an amazing conversation that made my day. Thank you Lunardi's for hiring such respectful and friendly teenagers. read more

I usually love this place but today was NOT a great experience. I was constantly profiled just because I am a minor. They made us wait in a line just to enter the store. When I FINALLY entered the store, one of the employees constantly harassed us , as if we were going to steal something when we NEVER did. Me and my friends felt extremely uncomfortable by this, and violated by this , which made my anxiety worse. Also their food is always expensive for NO REASON and they don't even taste good. I just remembered we've been going here ever since I started walking lol. Plus the produce person (glasses, tall man) forget his name was always helpful, especially when we didn't know what we were buying for the grandma's lol. I've worked at Lunardis in Belmont for 22 years . Last week I caught Covid. I informed my boss the day I re- ceived the news that I was exposed to it. They told me to come to work anyways . A few days later I started feeling symptoms. I once again informed my boss I called in sick until my test results came back . One of the higher up bosses MARK JOHNSON called me while I was at home accusing me of crying wolf and I was Fn his store over and threatened to take me off the dairy department. I came back to work this week and they informed me they are transferring me to another store (basically firing me knowing that with my other job I wouldn't be able to do this transfer ) this is how they treat there employees this isn't the place you should spend your money read more

I usually find this place to be okay. Things are overpriced and they have a tendency to stock items that are close to expiration -- especially their snacks (chips, cookies, etc.). But I'm writing this because of the way they treated my friend a few days ago. She was in line to purchase beer and she was harassed Madelyn (one of the cashiers). She quizzed my friend about her birthday, address, and seemed to think that her ID was fake. She barely made eye contact and seemed put out by doing her job. Strange when your job is being a cashier. Anyway, they will probably pay to delete this. We will be taking our business down the block from now on. I will be encouraging friends and family to do the same. read more
