Fausto came with his crew and did a fantastic job! They came to take down a palm tree and grind the stump. I was surprised on how quick they completed the job. Their experience and professionalism definitely showed with their work. The pricing is also competitive and reasonable. One of the main reasons I hired them was because they did have insurance in the case there's any possible damage to a structure and worker's comp, which is something other companies that quoted me didn't have. After calling and Fausto met us in 30 min to give us an estimate which was reasonable and the next day he and his crew came and cut down a 30ft mexican palm and a large pine tree. I contacted Holly Oak through Yelp messaging and they scheduled an arborist to come out that same day. The arborist, Fausto, was great. He looked at the tree and explained the issues for a tree that wasn't growing at all. He suggested planting a different tree (they don't offer planting so he wasn't trying to sell me on a service), and we discussed several trees that would work well in my yard. He said they could help prune and take care of the tree once the new tree had a chance to start growing and get established, which could be 1-2 years. Fausto was really great and obviously didn't pressure me into paying for services that I didn't need. They didn't charge for the initial consultation. Made an appointment for Fausto to show up on a Thursday between 4 and 6pm; he was also supposed to call or text when he was on his way. No call or text, never showed up. At 6pm I called the office, nobody there so I left a message. Waste of my afternoon- a friend had asked if I could help her host an event at 5pm and I told her no, that I needed to wait at home for Holly Oak. Very frustrating. I gave them 2 starts instead of 1 just because the girl who originally made the appointment seemed nice and professional. I guess I'm glad to know they're flakey before I considered hiring them and giving them money, but it was annoying to waste my afternoon. UPDATE: Just missed a call from Holly Oak after they saw this review. She left a very nice message apologizing, saying she sent a text message on Thursday to the wrong phone number (no idea what the text message said but if they were cancelling wouldn't a phone call make more sense?) Also she clearly had the right phone number to just call and leave me a voicemail... AND she only called at all after seeing my yelp review many days after I called to say they never showed up. They cut down my entire California Pepper and trimmed my Ficus. They took protective measures at the start covering up fencing and my wall partition. Project: We had small 3 palm trees in the front yard that needed to be removed completely. Fausto and his team were such a pleasure to deal with. I wish I didn't have to give 3 stars to this company as I thought they provided a great service before and I had no problem giving them a 5 star at the time. I have a large tree that is getting rotted and needs to be cut down in my front yard. I called Holly Oak first since I thought they would do a good job again. I left them a message to call me but didn't hear back for two days. I called again and asked to let me know even if they were not interested since they were my top choice but I'd contact others if they couldn't provide the service. I still didn't hear back. When I requested a quote through Yelp, they were automatically added for multiple bids request. Holly Oak was the only one who didn't respond again. So I am not sure what is going on with this business. It looks like either they are not in business anymore or they are just too busy to take a new job. In addition, after they trimmed my lemon tree a few years ago, it completely stopped producing lemons. At the time, there were lots of flowers that would turn into lemons, so I asked them if it was a right time to trim it. They said it would be just fine and chopped large branches. Since then, it has not produced lemons at all. One of the tree service companies that came over to give me a quote this time said the large branches were not supposed to be chopped like they did. They were supposed to reduce the volume by trimming smaller branches so the tree gets more sun and air inside. So I won't use this company if you are dealing with fruit trees. They did a great job cutting down my large palm tree, however. read more
