Love this place! Owners are always accommodating and even in summer they do their best to take care of the locals! I have been going here since they first opened in VH! Hollywood Nails is indeed the cheapest manicure/pedicure I have seen on the Vineyard - for a reason. Pros: -inexpensive -lowkey (walk-in or make an appointment) -convenient (if you live in or arrive in Vineyard Haven) Cons: -very casual service - lack of directions, clarity or care -cash only -stuffy and chemical smelling room The Experience: I called mid-afternoon to see if I could come in for a pedicure - I was told they had time right then so I walked on down. (There was a bit of a communication gap with the man on the phone. I had to ask for a few things repeated.) The potent odor of chemicals hit me when I walked in the door and I noticed the ventilation fan was not on. The place is small (3 pedicure chairs and 2 manicure stands) and there were only 3 staff members. I greeted the closest worker and told him I'd called for an appointment. I picked a color (the polish is spread out all over the shop and doesn't seem to be organized or diverse) and was sat in a pedi chair. The setup of the chairs was awkward and there was a person working on a manicure in between two of them which made things tight. That was okay, but there was some more awkward maneuvering (done without clear instructions, friendliness or finesse later in the process.) The basics went fine - trimming, filing, scrubbing, moisturizing were all done deftly. At that point, the woman doing my pedi got up to greet a man who appeared to be a regular customer and do his manicure. I sat for about five minutes with my feet up waiting to get painted. Then the man came over and painted my toes - he did a fine job. He then escorted me to an empty manicure table to sit - with no dryer - presumably because people were at the small drying station. I waited there for a few minutes. Even after the station opened up, no one said anything. I took initiative to go over and get dried for a bit. I sat there for over ten minutes. No one asked me to pay or checked on me. I decided I was finished and tried to pay. I was told then that they were cash only, which would have been nice to know. I went to get cash, paid and left. The pedi cost $36 and the next cheapest I found was $45 or $50. I think next time I'd pay the difference to get some decent service and get out in a timely fashion. read more

Do not go there. This is a nail salon that does not care about its customers. I have been twice and waited at least 30 or 45 minutes each time. They may put you in a pedicure chair within 15 minutes of your appointment but plan on waiting another 30 minutes until someone actually helps you. This last time they massaged my legs with oil after the pedicure was completed. I think they were rushed and did not want to do a massage. I asked so a different woman did it but only my legs and not my feet. Then with oil covered hands she put my new leather sandals on my feet and stained each oh them. When I complained they said it would dry like water. Twenty minutes later there was no change. After much haggling, they agreed to pay for the sandals if I would take them off right away and give them to the owners. I could leave in paper sandals. I had no other shoes for the weekend. They refused to budge so i just left and did not pay for the pedicure. This was all over $45 sandals. Imagine if I bought them on Martha's Vineyard or Neimans. They were all attitude and claimed I should have told them I was wearing leather sandals. Stay away. There are other nail salons on MV that understand what service is all about and care for and about their customers. read more

Needed a pedicure for a function. Only appt. was first thing in the morning but when I showed up no one was there. The man comes down from the apartment above and starts doing the pedicure. No blue salt put in the water, no gel to loosen/soften cuticle. Will not go back there again, definitely not worth the money!! read more

So, I live in the land of the inexpensive manicure (SF). More that $15 for a manicure is just crazy! MV has the craziest manicure prices I've ever come across anywhere--but isn't is nice to start a beach vacation with beautifully polish tootsies?! I love this place. I don't know why everyone is so harsh on this business. The man that works in the shop is a wicked busy guy, as are the women. I always go in and get a pedicure and these people are beyond nice. Yes, they're busy. Yes they work multiple clients at one time. If you don't like it, then as an American you have the right not to go. They have a secondary shop in OB (Oak Bluffs) and the lady that runs the shop is just as nice. Go in, get your services and leave. Pay the man and be happy. read more

I agree that some reviewers have been very harsh. This is also my go-to place and I live on the island. The price is the best and the family that runs the salon are all very nice. As is typical of nail salons - and ladies you all know this - they stack people up with their scheduling, but I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes or so. You can also always come back if that works for you, but I just bring a book and hang out talking to other customers. They are clean, and they are good - so don't believe the naysayers. Just put yourself into island mode and relax - after all, you are not on the mainland! read more

I wish I had read these reviews before stepping into such a stressful and outright nasty situation. The bizarre and rude attitude of the man who did my manicure was unreal. A very strange and frightening experience, culminating in him snapping at me that I had messed up my nails when he was putting my sandal on (this after I had asked him to help me twice- I had to wait for him to move some chairs around, and then to open up and take his time drinking his bottled juice as he looked at me). I asked him to please not talk to me like that, and he angerly and repeatably told me that I did not appreciate him. Wow. I just had a manicure/pedicure on the vineyard for 55.00, wow. Added gel nails for 10.00 more. I had fabulous service by Christine. She was very nice and made a lot of effort to make sure everyone was happy. Yes, the nail salon is small, and a little smelly...... but worth it for the fast walk in service and cheap price. This place is small but has very nice interior. However, it is appointment only & they lack knowledge/skill doing nails that are longer than average. I came in on Tuesday June 27, 2017 & tried to explain my expectations/preference on how I need & like my nails do be done having a longer length. Regardless of being trained nail technicians, they were incapable of performing & displaying expertise on how to properly do longer nails. I have been getting my nails done for over 15 years & am very knowledgeable about having a longer nail set. I tried to be helpful or share how I wanted them to be done but I received attitude and was talked about in their own language. The nail tech put very little acrylic for my fill which caused my longer nails to lift the very next day from my cuticle! I have never in my entire 15 years of getting my nails done have this happen to me! If you are looking for a establishment that is good at manicures & pedicures, I would take a chance. However, if you are a woman that prefers acrylic, I would suggest looking else where because of lack of proper application. I spent $100 (without gel) only to have my nails lifting the very next day from a fill. This is ridiculous & these women are unprofessional/lack full circle nail education. I had to leave the next day so I was incapable of showing their error but I am so disappointed in the lack of professionalism & licensure to be a nail technician. Personally they deserve no stars! Also there were several flies/bugs in the establishment because they kept the door open. Nobody wants to be getting a pedicure swatting away insects. Some of what the other reviewers have said is true, but it's a bit harsh. This is my go-to place on the island, and is the best price I've found. They have three pedicure stations, each with a nice massage chair. They also have a great selection of essie and OPI nail polishes. The owners are Vietnamese and very kind. It is cash only - but if you forget, they are very understanding if you need to walk to get cash and come back, and there's a bank ATM right across the street and a Stop & Shop where you can get cash back on the other side - pretty convenient. I've always been able to walk in and get a pedicure either immediately or within half an hour. I have been pleased with the service, and it's a great place to go and chat with a friend because they don't rush you in and out. There is a chemical odor, but I'm very sensitive to smells and it doesn't bother me - they also usually leave the door open so there is fresh air. read more
