Almost 14 years ago, I bought two female kittens from this place, It was the beginning of heartache. One of the sisters had a self-destruct problem and had to wear a collar from kittenhood for the rest of her life, until she died of a heart attack at the age of 13, which broke my heart. Her sister has been diagnosed with Cushing's disease, for which there is no cure or treatment. She cries constantly because she thinks she is starving to death, and now she also misses her sister, they were very close. Please read the reviews. Sphynx cats are a fabulous breed, but u must be very careful where u buy from, heart disease is a genetic problem, and it can strike at a very young age. Do not consider price as the major item, as u might imagine I have spent a small fortune and will continue spending on the baby. left for anything she needs. STAY CLEAR. THIS IS A KITTEN MILL. I don't know why the main breeder decided to add "partners" but there is no doubt in my mind, or the vets whom I've spoken with, that my cat came from a kitten mill. She came sick with an eye and upper respiratory infection, then it was feline chlamydia, an ear infection and now cancer. My kitten is 13 months old and I'm currently having to determine her end of life plan. I don't know how anyone could sell extremely sick kittens and know the owners will fall in love with them, only to have them die less than a year later. I wish I had reached out to other Sphynx owners with healthy cats to get their breeders rather than relying on yelp. Take away advise: do not get your kitten from these people as their business partners are shady, making them shady for not screening the owners better. read more

I got my first sphynx from Hollywood Sphynx about 7 years ago. I didn't know what to look for then, so I'm writing this review as a person MUCH more experienced with cats and sphynx, to a less experienced person who I assume is reading this review. When adopting any cat, but a sphynx in particular: You want to have the paperwork of the parents, AND cardiologist records (Not just the regular vet) proving that the sphynx have been scanned yearly for HCM (an enlarged heart. #1 killer of the sphynx breed). A breeder's statements mean nothing without these. You want your TICA or CFA papers from the breeder if you ever want to show, and it's good to get them even if you plan to never show, as you can trace the lineage of your cat. You want to either visit the cattery itself to see the condition of the cats and kittens within, or the breeder should visit you. There should be a consensus that the cat is coming from a good home and going to a good home. You want vet records. All sphynx babies should be received neutered/spayed and with their shots. If your cat ever bites someone, and it turns out they have not had a rabies shot, your cat could be EUTHANIZED to prove they don't have rabies. You want a lifelong relationship with your breeder so you feel confident to ask them questions about anything for the life of your pet. You want a breeder dedicated to the HEALTH and wellness of this breed, and who are dedicated to making better, healthier sphynxes to share with the world. You want a solid contract. It will be signed by you and the breeder and will help guarantee the lifelong health of the pet and both protect YOU, and protect the cat so the breeder can monitor the wellness of the cat if you turn out to be a bad owner. This cattery provided exactly none of these things. 1. I was pushed into paying in full well before I got my kitten because Jerry claimed his other cats had vet bills he needed paying. This is a severe red flag and I'm lucky I ever got the cat. 2. Jerry dropped off the kitten to me in a Sacramento parking lot with no food, no litter, no toys. Just a baby blanket, and a goodbye. I never received any promised care package, or any update. Kitten was NOT spayed, and was 5 months old when I was originally planning on getting her at 4 months old. She had no shots and no vet records. 3. Jerry offered to pay for my cat's spay ONLY if I visited HIS vet in Sacramento (At the time I lived in San Francisco, 2 hours south). I had a vet I trusted. Turned out his vet is anti-vax and requires no proof of vaccinations. They screwed up her spay so bad that to this day vets are horrified. They played with her after her spay and LOST HER and used a net to catch her, almost severing 2 toes. Jerry is not responsible for the vet's behavior, but the fact he REQUIRES use of this vet is NOT a good sign. 4. No HCM screening, and no paperwork. I am a registered partner of TICA and could never show my sphynx as a sphynx now. She has no paperwork. At 7, my girl has scanned HCM free, but there are multiple BBB reviews and reviews here of cats passing from HCM from Hollywood Sphynx. This raises concerns that none of the kings and queens have the required yearly scans to make sure they're healthy and going to produce healthy kittens. 5. My cat has a lifelong chronic skin condition which Jerry was certainly aware of (or ignorant of, not better) when she was given to me. I was told it was "cat hickies" but it is in fact the start of a rash that covers her whole body and requires extensive vet treatments. I've spent thousands of dollars on dermatologist and other vet visits for this chronic lifelong skin condition and will continue to do so. Other people with pets by Jerry have expressed their sphynx ALSO have these conditions. Unfortunately not being shown his cattery I can't state what any of the other cats look like. Do not pick up a kitten if you can't view the parents and cattery and verify it's healthy with generations of healthy animals. 6. Jerry is anti-vax. May seem like a non issue for an indoor only cat, except that vaccines DO help kittens survive, and without the rabies vaccine, your animal could be euthanized due to an accidental biting. If you are worried about injection risks, just ask them to vaccinate using the base of the tail, or a hind limb. 7. No contract. Sphynx handed over to me non spayed. This is just very poor business practice and no reputable breeder would ever hand over a sphynx to a stranger in a parking lot with no contract, non spayed, nothing. + zero follow up. There are plenty of other great sphynx breeders in the area, and the TICA sphynx chair also lives in Sacramento. Reach out to find a reputable sphynx breeder in your area instead of rolling the dice that you'll get a kitten with extreme skin conditions, HCM, or who knows what else from an anti-vax breeder with zero paperwork to protect you. I'm updating my review because I see a lot of negative comments on here about Jerry. People need to understand you're adopting an animal. You need to understand the commitment and possible outcomes of any sickness or disease that particular breed is susceptible to. With that being said, I have had my baby for 7 years, he is beautiful, wonderful and as sweet as ever. If i don't bath him accordingly he does get a rash around his neck and shoulders, but that is not the breeders fault. That is my fault for not keeping up with the high maintenance requirements the sphynx needs to be provided. He has regular visits to the vet and always comes back with a clean bill of health! I plan to adopt my next sphynx from Jerry in the future and recommend all my friends to this cattery as well read more

I wrote this when I first got my cat, about 4 years ago. I was young and fell in love with her so I guess I ignored all the red flags. Like reviews previously stated, he dropped off my cat to me in a parking lot without any food, litter, contract, or any follow up the following weeks after. He wouldn't allow me to come see her before I agreed to purchasing her and said he didn't want to see his home or his cattery. My beautiful Kahlua got asthma symptoms when she started to get older, and in the last year was diagnosed with diabetes. she has been given premium food and has seen exceptional vets, and none of them can explain why she is so sick. She has no cause for having diabetes, other than the fact that she may have come from a breeder that doesn't take the health of their kittens seriously but charges an arm and a leg for them. She now has to have 2 shots of insulin in her neck every day and has to have a inhaler for her asthma. I love her and I will continue to take care of her, but just be cautious with this breeder. I spent a lot of money on her, but I've spent thousands more on syringes, insulin, prescription diet food, pee pads (because she was peeing on the floor from her diabetes) and vet bills. I probably will never get a sphynx again because of how terrifying this all is, but if I do, I will make sure it's from somewhere safer than Hollywood Sphynx. Please take your time looking for one of these angels, and listen to those of us who have experienced the dysfunction of this breeder. Never again. read more

Let me tell you, Jerry did it again!...He made another great "adoption match"! I have to tell you, originally, I was going to buy a Sphynx from a local breeder here in San Diego, but me and my husband were in San Francisco for a little get away, and he'd never seen a Sphynx before. So I wanted him to see one in person, and hold one to see if he would like a Sphynx cat. We also needed to see if he was allergic to them or not. (This was our first "cat", because we had a dog before) So I looked online and found Hollywood Sphynx. So I called the number on Yelp, and not even knowing if I was going to buy a cat or not, Jerry (the owner) talked to me for a long time, answering my questions, and educating me about this breed. It was very obvious during our conversation he really loves these cats. I Was Impressed By How Helpful And Knowledgeable Jerry Was After I hung up the phone , I told my husband I couldn't believe how much time this guy spent talking to me, educating me, and answering my questions about these cats. Even though he had no idea if I was interested in buying a Sphynx cat or not. Because I told him we were only "considering" possibly getting one. Let me tell you one thing...Jerry is an EXPERT when it comes to Sphynx cats. AND, not only is he an expert, he really cares about his cats. He DOES NOT run some underhanded Kitty Mill, pumping out and selling as many cats as he can to just anyone! No! He cares about his cats, and who he sells them to! I Was Impressed Again During our first conversation, I also asked Jerry if we could meet him and hold one of the cats, to see if my husband was allergic to them or not. He asked me a few questions, told me he doubted Johnny (my husband) would be allergic to them, and had no problem meeting with us. After that first phone call, I knew right away if we did get a Sphynx, Jerry was the guy we'd be getting our cat from. That's why we actually drove the hour and a half drive from San Francisco to Sacramento, on our vacation, to meet Jerry and one of his cats. After meeting Jerry and holding one of his cats, I knew right then I wanted one of these cats, so I gave him a deposit right then. I could have bought a cat in San Diego, and saved the extra $550 it cost me for the airfare to fly there, the cat carrier, and the airline pet fee, but buying a cat from the best breeder in the country was more important to me than saving the $550. And I am pretty sure Jerry is one of the top, if not "the top" breeder of these cats in the country! The Experience Was Amazing The Day I Met Our New Son When I met Jerry and got our cat, he had already taken care of ordering my cat carrier for me and bringing it to the airport, and he also had a warmer inside it to keep our new son warm on the plane, along with a little soft rug he placed inside it, that he had made to keep our new son extra cozy during the flight!. He also presented me with a care package, in a nice carrying pouch, which contained an outfit, toys, cat nip, liquid soap for bathing the cat. PLUS he had hand-sewn a very nice cat bed/carrier, that also serves as a cat tunnel for the cat to play in! THEN, he also walked with me up to the counter to guide me through getting the cat and his carrier checked in, and instructed me how to carry him through the TSA screening, since I would have had no idea how to do that. When the lady at the airline counter recognized him and greeted him, I realized this was a service he offered all of his "new parents" when they adopt their new little son or daughter from him, in order to make it as easy as possible for them. He made everything a stress-free, easy, and smooth experience for me and my new son to travel back home together. I Highly Recommend Hollywood Sphynx We are totally in love with our new little son Winston! If you are getting a Sphynx cat - no matter where you live in the US, or the world - this is the guy you want to get your Sphynx from. He has been there since the beginning of my first call to him, and is excellent at follow up with any questions I had after bringing our new son home. He even called us after a few days to see how our new son was doing. Amazing! Our good friends purchased a different breed of cat from a reputable breeder in New York. Although the breeder was nice and gave them a great cat, it was flown from New York to San Diego, with no care package, no gifts, no nothing - not even some cat nip! Just their cat in a carrier box! My point? Jerry's attention to the extra details, his care package he sends you home with, and the VERY NICE, top-quality cat bed/play tunnel he personally hand-makes, and sends you home with, is service above and beyond! It takes a unique experience for me to take the time to write one, and what a unique experience I have had with my amazing Sphynx kitten from Jerry at Hollywood Sphynx!!! I can not say enough about how much my husband and I love this cat! I received Kulani in August 2018 after being placed on the waiting list at the beginning of the year. I had my veterinarian check her out right after I picked her up and she got a clean bill of health. Even the people working at my vet's office were very impressed with her. Many of them took selfies holding her since she was so stunningly beautiful and had such a great personality! To say that this little girl is incredible is an understatement! I have owned many dogs and cats in my life. In addition, I showed dogs for many years at AKC events in confirmation, obedience, and herding, so I can appreciate good breeding when I see it. Kulani has great confirmation, she is very intelligent, and she is healthy. I could not ask for more! It is always very interesting to see the different inherent traits in the various breeds of cats and dogs. However, it is the responsibility of the breeder to produce a quality animal. Reputable breeders only breed for quality and make the health of their animals the highest priority. They are very knowledgeable about all aspects of the breed and are always informed of the latest products to help their animals thrive. After speaking with Jerry a few times, I could hear his passion and how knowledgeable he is about the Sphynx breed. We thoroughly discussed how to best care for this cat and I took copious notes since he is the expert! I did a lot of research before I decided on getting a kitty from Jerry. I called as many breeders as I could on the phone to actually speak to them and get a feel for their intentions as breeders and their feelings towards their animals. Jerry was so friendly and always available for any questions that I had. I was a super paranoid buyer so I asked a million questions and he answered every single one. He has great referrals from previously satisfied cat parents and he knows his stuff. I flew to Sacramento to pick up my baby and another boy from the same litter for a woman in the same city as me. He met me right outside of airport security with a cute little baby backpack with the kitties snuggling peacefully inside. When I got my Isis home, I had a lot of questions about diet, her growth, her weird sounding meow (she missed her brothers and sisters), etc. Jerry always either answered immediately or called me back the same day. HOLLYWOOD SPHYNX: THE SECOND TIME AROUND One always expects a little bit of a let down the second time around . . . SURPRISE!!!! Jerry Dean / Hollywood Sphynx DID IT AGAIN! We are so very fortunate to have welcomed a second precious little girl from Hollywood Sphnyx into our hearts in Decemember, Eko Pi-Catfish. Eko Pi is just as amazingly dear and uniquely herself as our first girl from Jerry, Moon Blossom. Before Eko Pi came, Jerry had taken care of everything: Eko had been spayed, loved on (she is such a cuddle bug!) and Jerry even started her transition to raw diet so we would not have complications when she arrived. Jerry kept us updated on her growing progress and even sent text messages and photos from the airport as he waited for our courier, Mr. Henry, to arrive. We had been speaking with Jerry since 2007 about the Sphynx. We had a list of preferences we have been sending to him along with updates since before Moon Blossom came to us in July 2013. Never once did we ever feel from Jerry that we were imposing or impossible or wasting his time. Moreover, we consider, and have been told my many, that our standards are high and appreciate that Jerry has standards as well--standards he expects to honor and to be honored by his buyers. One of our preferences,was a light diluted colored kitten with blue eyes and an asymmetrical black facial marking. One mid morning weekend day in late August we received a picture of a dilute tortie girl from Jerry. I can still hear him say, "Wouldn't it be amazing, if she had blue eyes!" Yes, it would. And she did. Jerry says Eko Pi is Jenn and Ro's custom cat. We think she is too. Jerry's generosity with his time, knowledge and accessibility before and after brining home our kittens has and continues to be outstanding. He is an anomaly. He has spent countless hours on the phone with me reporting, discovering and rehashing raw diet formulas. When one of our Sphynx, not of his breeding, injured her leg after hospital hours, Jerry was there. When this same girl had tummy trouble, Jerry was there. There are very few times in my life I would actually take time to sit down and write a review for a business. I am one of those people who find the good in most situations so I usually settle for under par or ordinary service. I am a Sphynx owner of a female 1 1/2 year old, in whom I love indescribably. I rescued my girl when she was 9 months old, shortly after the loss of my pregnancy with my twins. She became the light in which helped me through some dark times. I have always wanted to get another sphynx as a companion for her and myself as it could only be better to have two to snuggle and love, right? I had looked for several months, researching many breeders. I had found a couple kittens I was interested in but always found myself back on Jerry's page looking at his kitties. One day, I finally emailed him and he promptly responded. "call me anytime if you want to talk Sphynx!" So that I did. I was aware that almost never would I find an available kitten without a waiting list of adopting families or a long wait until my kitten was ready for me. Jerry and I talked shop several times and he sent me a picture of two boys, one of which I fell in love with. He was cautious, and rightfully so in choosing me as his adopting parent. It just so happened that this particular boy was available in a few short weeks. I was elated. Couldn't believe I was first in line for this little boy!!! During the following weeks Jerry was so insightful and knowledgable about sphynx and never once put me off and answered every single question I had in full detail. He definitely knows his stuff. He sent me updates, videos, pictures and was available to discuss my baby boy at any time. When it came close to my pick up date, Jerry contacted me and informed me that he had called a pet store near me to pre-order Small Batch food for the kitten so I could pick it up ahead of time. He also informed me that he was making a snuggle sack/bed for my little boy and wanted to know what color I preferred (unreal that this guy has a industrial sewing machine and makes these spectacular snuggle sacks!). Wow, 110% going out of his way. Pick up day was upon me as my friend and I drove 8 hours to meet Jerry. He was happy to see us arrive safely and met us with my darling little man, who we lovingly named "Vinnie"! Love at first sight. Jerry talked to me for a long while and answered all of my questions and made sure I was comfy with my baby boy before leaving. Vinnie came to me flawless and adorable in a wonderful faux mink fur sleeping sack, and a pack complete with health records, microchip registration, bath soap, scrubbing gloves for bathing, treats, toys, and even a "I love Hollywood Sphynx" T-shirt! We took pics and said our goodbyes and off we traveled home. Once we arrived home, I received a message from Jerry wondering if we made it home safe and he inquired how the little guy did on the trip home. Well Vinnie is adjusting very well with my baby girl, and is the little brother she had always hoped for!! He is healthy, well adjusted, mellow, eats well, uses his box and is undeniably beautiful! Jerry has contacted me several times since to see how things are going and has continued to answer any question or concern I may have. Jerry has a amazing set up at his home for these cats! The cats have their own separate heating system keeping them warm and comfy and a Blue Air filtering system. The cats have flat screen TVs and play equipment. Jerry does not think twice about the well being of these cats! He knows literally everything about sphynx. He is an easygoing guy, very professional and flexible. I would most definitely purchase another cat from Jerry in the future! I would recommend his business to anyone who is looking into purchasing and loving a sphynx. You will not be disappointed. I had a Sphynx and he passed away in July due to a bad vet. I was devastated as I'd just had a miscarriage and my cat had been there with me through everything. I called my bf and decided to drive out to LA and spend time with him so I wouldn't be alone. I was hysterical. I dropped my son off at his dads and told him his kitty was at camp for a bit. When I got to LA my bf immediately started looking for another kitten for us. After about an hour of looking for breeders he stumbled across Hollywood Sphynx. He emailed Jerry that night. The next day I decided to call him. As luck would have it he had one girl that was available! She looked just like Toodles! We spoke for about an hour and I explained what had happened to mine. He emailed me some pictures and I put a deposit down on her. While I waited for her to be old enough to take home, Jerry was in constant contact sending me pictures and letting me know about her vet visits. I'd show my son the pictures and we were so excited for her to be with us. The day finally arrived and I boarded a plane to fly to Sacramento to get our new baby. Hollywood Sphynx Our experience with Hollywood Sphynx can be defined by Jerry Dean's conscientious passion and responsibility in promoting the safety and well-being of the Sphynx. First and Second Contacts Our initial interaction with JD began in the spring of 2007 during our fact-finding endeavor regarding the Sphyx characteristics, temperament, behavior and care and goodness of fit within our family and home. JD was the only Sphynx breeder who returned our email and took our phone calls in real time (no advancing to voice mail!). Even after we informed JD that we were not yet prepared to adopt, JD conscientiously, without a hint of hesitation, addressed each and every question on our list. From our first contact, we found JD responsive, gracious and, above all, incredibly patient. Our second contact with JD came in 2009 and focused on safety issues for a Sphynx in our bi-level loft. In true and consistent form, JD helped us evaluate our home from photos we sent via email. Again, JD was as gracious and as generous with his expertise and patience as he was in 2007, even when we again we confessed were, still, not yet ready to adopt. Blossom We contacted JD again for the third time in March 2013. This time we were ready. We were ready to commit to all that we understood that would be required to raise a Sphynx and ready and to honor the online contract that outlines the no-refund policy prior to sending our deposit. After a good third drilling and vetting process (one which I refer to as an informative conversation) we were impressed again with JD's willingness to serve as a resource for all things Sphynx. JD also gladly agreed to create a file for our selected Sphyx photos to reference in his selecting process of our future kitten. (JD did not even raise a metaphorical eyebrow when we amended our photo file several times with the week.) After a discussion of payment process expectations, we sent our deposit on a future Sphynx litter. Given our conversation and our preferences, we anticipated a wait of six months to year--not unusual. A few weeks later, JD sent a text saying he had just emailed a video of a kitten we may like. Right . . . How could that be given our "made to order" description. Thinking I would wait to view the entire video after work and knowing full well we were prepared to wait six months to a year, I loaded the video on my laptop during lunch and waited while the MB's and GB's loaded . . . then as the viewer opened . . . there she was . . . a black paint splattered tortie with a Picasso face . . . there was our Cabbage Blossom! Preparing for Blossom In preparing for Blossom's arrival, JD spent endless hours with us on the phone and texting and emailing videos of our Blossom and confirming our payment dates. JD kept us informed about Blossom's development (both physical and personality), appropriate food and preparation, introduction of Blossom within her new home and so many miscellaneous issues that surface like impulsive dominos rising up as quickly as they are laid down. JD even arranged for Blossom's spay before she came home! Wow! JD was also diligent in helping us coordinate flight schedules and airport hook-ups and comforting us with efficient communications during the action of those processes. With concerns and priorities mirroring our own, JD worked to ensure the success of Blossom's transition in her new home--JD packed Blossom in a transition blanket that he hand-made, stuffed her carrier full of toys and treats, and comforted Blossom in her carrier with lamb's wool. Moreover, JD checked in with us as frequently as we checked in with him via phone and text message! Essentially, JD held our hands. On Going Commitment in Real Time Our relationship with JD continues today. JD works with us on issues of nutrition. He plans and breaks down the ingredient preparation of various raw recipes and sends links for food vendors and equipment. Last month, when I needed to purchase butcher gloves to safely chunk meat required for the raw Sphynx diet, I had trouble finding proper sized gloves for my husband. Not only did JD locate a vendor, he also negotiated a price and arranged for shipment! JD continues to be a great "go to" resource for all things Sphynx. JD never seems to tire of expressing pleasure regarding the photos and videos we send him of Blossom. As we reflect on JD's expertise and his willingness to share all he knows, his passion for Sphynx is evident in his rescue work. JD was the only breeder and Sphynx resource who responded to our informational email queries . . . not just once but twice and my husband and I are grateful. Before I found Hollywood Sphynx, I had been scammed for money from a fake breeder. Non the less we moved on and found Jerry. I told him what had happened and he educated me on the whole deal. Well where do I begin! I can't say enough good things about Jerry. Before I decided to get a kitten from him I called several other breeders throughout the state. I felt Jerry was more concerned with the homes his kittens went to, than making a sale. Which was important to me. His website is very informational and I found him to be very easy to reach and pleasant. He was very flexible and allowed me to pay the kitten in full when I picked him up. I drove 2 hours one way to pick my lil guy up in October of 2010. Jerry had hand made a hammock, and provided me with a goodie bag full of toys, shampoo, treats, a collar, and a warm baby blanket. I went into a nearby Petsmart to get a carrier and all the employees were asking me if my kitten was one of Jerry's kittens. They all had nothing but kind words to say about him.
