The last time I saw my gecko alive, they were taking her to the back room. When I was given her back, she was hidden in her carrier under some paper towels and I didn't want to disturb her after all the rough handling and stress of the day. But after a short car ride home, I moved the paper towels and found her stiff corpse. I don't know how long it takes for rigor mortis to set in for small animals, but I doubt she left the clinic alive. Even if I'm as generous as possible and say it was her time then no matter what, I'm still upset with how things went. The entire cost was $266, which is in the same ballpark as an emergency vet visit, and I feel like I was nickel and dimed only for them to rapidly accelerate her death. They went over my head with things -- they initially told me it wouldn't be safe to give her an injection, but after they took her from the room and returned they said they'd given her an injection. I wanted to trust them and be polite (so I went along with that and their initial handling of my gecko where I was biting back words for the vet to be gentler), and now I'll have to live with that regret forever. The appointment was also needlessly long, almost exactly two hours, which would be fine if it was treatment, but the vast majority was just sitting there waiting and waiting and waiting for them to do things like print out billing paperwork. On top of that, when I told them what happened, they didn't care. I really regret going here. I feel like I was denied the chance to say goodbye, and that it was my fault my pet died scared and stressed. I'll always wonder what would have happened if I'd taken her elsewhere or even just kept her at home. It makes the grief harder. read more

Horrible experience! I called for a checkup for my cherry-head tortoises as well as to get some concerning dry spots looked at. I gave them all of my information over the phone. Upon my arrival I approached their glass door, where you clearly see their front desk administrators, and called to let them know I arrived. (They don't open their door for visitors due to Covid, despite wearing a mask). I've never been to this place prior so I expected to be able to talk to the veterinarian as they examined my tortoises or at least afterwards. Nope, the woman I spoke with on phone, through this glass door, just said "okay, just leave them at the door and someone will be out to pick them up". I asked her "what happens then" she said "when they're done they'll bring them back out". She didn't explain at all what would happen during the checkup. There was no one willing to talk to me about the dry spots I scheduled the appt for. I told her no thanks, I'm not just randomly leaving my tortoises at a place I've never seen the inside of before with a "vet" that I've never met. read more

Took bearded dragon in for a visit and surgery was performed regarding necrotic tissue. Bearded dragon was prescribed antibiotics which can ravage the internal organs of a bearded dragon. No tests were done and when brought in for a follow up, our beardie was exponentially worse off than when first brought in. Beardie wasn't seen until the following day and just prescribed with more antibiotics. No tests were done and no follow up until I had to call as she was getting progressively worse. Had to put down bearded dragon and WOULD NOT recommend taking pet here as ZERO care was made. Disgusted and disappointed read more

I brought my chicken in for a bumble foot a few weeks ago. I returned for a follow up. It was a drop off appointment. I dropped her off at 8 am. I showed up at 2 pm and they told me the Vet was very busy and she had not been seen yet. Than about ten minutes later, as i was waiting, they told me they were working on her. I went in the back where they were wrapping her foot and noticed her toe (healthy) nail missing. They Dr. Brick told me it happen on the exam table. Really, What a bunch of crap! I soaked that chickens foot twice a day for two weeks and have about twenty pictures of that toe nail it sure in the hell looks healthly to me!! Your going to tell me that it just popped off! I hate liers! Fill in the blanks. They took her out of my crate and placed her in a cage and when i arrived they rushed and pulled her out of the cage, so she caught her nail in the cage somehow. This is what i am thinking. She tells me what!!! on the exam table. Your kidding me. I have a 24.50 cage fee for what a drop off and placed her in their cage! Assessment fee for what wound management. Dr. Brick stick to lizards and bunnies. I am not stupid! Your story does not match the torn off nail of my chicken. You had to make up something! The staff was very helpful and friendly, but their fees were on the high side, and the rx I got was 3x more costly than my regular vet. I was charged an office visit + ER visit which totalling over $120 to drop him off to be seen and squeezed into their schedule... and I was truly grateful they could do that!! When I got home I was reviewing the bill and medication fees --around $300 -- and noticed a $25 "storage" fee for my very small pet to wait in it's very small cage until I picked him up that afternoon. Between that and the inflated rx costs I am quite disappointed. They've never been inexpensive, but this was unnecessarily excessive. read more

I have been coming here for about 3 years now and I've been meaning to write a review. I was recommended by the House Rabbit of Society of Sacramento. They were super helpful on recommending local vets that specializes in rabbits. We have two - 2 year old guinea pigs and one 9 year, almost 10 year old (Dec) rabbit. I have to say that this place doesn't disappoint. The staff has been great to help my needs, as well as my animals. It's a bit of a drive for us, but I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Just recently, one of our guinea pigs had a major bump on the back. We were able to schedule surgery and it was done in a couple of hours. Our guinea pig's recovery went smoothly and she took the medication like a champ. This place really cares for your animals. I really appreciate the staff calling and checking up on our guinea pig after her surgery. Highly recommend ! read more

My wife and I have been using Dr. Brick for four cats and two cockatiels for the last five or six years. It doesn't get any better than Dr. Brick. Pet owners sometimes have emergencies with their pets, and without fail, Dr. Brick and her staff have stepped up to take the time and energy to see us through those emergencies in a kind and competent fashion. Months ago my rabbits both had bad respiratory infections that I initially thought were allergies since the seasons were changing and we had just cut the grass outside. It got worse every day and I got really worried about them when one of my rabbits seemed to start having trouble breathing. I couldn't get an appointment anywhere, but they were able to have me drop them off in the morning so that the vet could take a look when she gets a chance throughout the day. I'm grateful that they were able to fit my babies in and took such good care of them. They went on antibiotics and made a full recovery! From now on, this will be my normal rabbit vet! Was supposed to be a quick and simple shot today but my rabbit was returned to me with one of her nails completely ripped off (skin attached to the nail) and bleeding. Called the clinic after I got home from the appointment and they didn't offer much help and said it was common. There was drops of blood all over the white towel I used in the carrier so it would've been very hard for them not to notice the amount she was bleeding while they were handling her (including the nail that was left in there). They did not alert me that they had injured her and even if it's an accident, I would still expect to be told that something had happened. My last bun to be neutered was a dwarf and I was worried if the process would be harder on his little body than my other bunnies. Turns out my dwarf bounced back even faster than my other two and is doing so well I have to slow him down for the next 14 days to heal Thank you to the team here I won't bring my bunnies anywhere else. let me add, I also came into the bunny world AFTER I found my first bun on the side of the road. So my bun knowledge was outdated and flat out incorrect. Unfathomably unprofessional! No courtesy call a day or two later to check on my tiny pet that just had surgery. They don't do that, they said, they don't care to check up on pets no matter their appointment. Fine, MAVC cares only about the money, not the pets or people. Okay, got it, every business is different. But wait... Over the phone, during the (drop off) appointment, I was told I would be called with results, and once the results were known, an appointment would be scheduled. After they didn't call the day they said they would, I called. And called. And called. Six calls later, when I actually spoke with a person, 5 days after I was told results would be in, the receptionist did not take my concern seriously. If she did, it wasn't conveyed in the least. At the end of the conversation, I confirmed that someone would call me back the next day. No one called the next day. Or the next day. I called the next day, results had come in two days prior. The doctor immediately argued with me when my tone conveyed that I had a problem with not being called back or ever contacted with the results. Then she rudely and argumentatively asks why I didn't call to get a follow up appointment. (Omfg, I left messages, left messages with the receptionist- should I have sent emails and USPS certified mail as well to have had proof on my end?) The doctor continued to argue and accuse, even when I suggested that in this moment she could chose to be professional and listen to my concerns so that a solution could be reached. She told me to seek services elsewhere because I had a problem with: 1) lack of follow-up courtesy call 2) no call of the results 3) being billed 20% more was authorized. Over the phone during the (drop off) appointment, the charges were explained, I selected the services I felt were necessary and authorized a certain amount. When my partner brought home the invoice, it was 20% MORE than I had authorized. Was charged nearly $1,000! I understand that medical estimates can be tricky, with that they should have given me a range, not an exact-to-the-penny amount to be paid. At time of services, the doctor, a receptionist, an assistant or SOMEBODY could have called me to talk either about the additional services or whatever it was that caused my bill to exceed the authorized amount. Turns out, they just didn't include all the costs in what was explained to me over the phone. And were reluctant to take responsibility even after admitting it. Whats nuts is that there are two other items to note as well as the final situation, but I'll stop here. In short, they are not interested in building trust or keeping their word with their clients. The records, billing and customer service of this place is atrocious and I am deeply regretful for ever have used them, let alone having recommended them, in the past. read more

Does Dr Brick not own it anymore? I called to get my leopard gecko in because there's something wrong with her eye. The front desk I spoke to was not that friendly. Honestly if you're going to hire staff to answer your phones they can at least be personable and not make me feel like I'm imposing on their day. They couldn't get my poor gecko in for a full week. They didn't seem at all concerned. I found a vet that's a little farther away that could get her in sooner so I am taking her there. Honestly I took my pets there back in 2015 and Dr Brick and her whole team were absolute gems. I stumbled upon this veterinary clinic through a fellow Yelper, Steph. I also tried to contact other vets to see if they specialize in rabbits but I got turned down most of the time as many vets only see dogs and cats. I initially brought in my rabbit, Bunzi, for a large abscess on the side of her face. The vet technicians and doctors were really concerned after they saw Bunzi's face. They explained to me each time what they were going to do and brought her to the operating room. First, Bunzi needed her face to be shaved off so they can see underneath the abscess. Her wound was then cleaned up and sutured up for stitches. I was so scared because Bunzi had to have metal staples to her face and I felt so bad for my poor baby since I could not do much to help alleviate the pain she was going through. The vet came back and explained that they had to suture it that way so that there would be drainage of any other discharge. I was advised to feed Bunzi some critical care, TMS, and Meloxicam. My bill turned out to be a lot more expensive that I had anticipated, but I had to do whatever it took to heal my little princess. I have been to the vet several times after the visit and the vet techs and techs have been nothing but caring during this whole process. The vet techs taught me how to feed Bunzi the medication, give her shots, and even wrap her in a bunny burrito. Fast foward to 2 months later, Bunzi is almost all healed up from her abscess and she is going to be the happiest bun ever. I am so lucky to have found Dr. Sanchez and Dr. Brick to see my princess Bunzi. I am planning to bring Smores and Bunzi to see these great vets for yearly checkups! Also, Dr. Brick also specializes in turtles, birds, dogs, cats, and many other exotic animals!! read more

I have been going to this vet for a few years now. I found this vet when I adopted a Chinese Water Dragon and have never been anywhere else. These guys are amazing with all my animals. I bring my Dog Roger, my Water Dragon Azazel, and both of my Pythons Phi Phi and Gerald. I was extreemly impressed when I first went. They have helped me so much with everything and I feel they are definitely NOT out for your money. Everything is extremely reasonable in price for service. Also, my Dog Roger is a little jerk, and they still work with him and I trust them 100% and have no fears of them hurting or stressing my boy when they have to Muzzle him. Anyone with reptiles can tell you it's hard to find any vet, but to find a good one? That's golden. Dr. Brick and her team are knowledgeable, personable and compassionate. I first met them when I had to take my dying Beardie in to get put down. A few weeks later I received a card in the mail signed by every single one of her team with kind notes of condolences. This makes a huge difference for someone who lost a loved pet. Anyone who has a pet knows they become your family, even if they are lizards. Since then, I have brought my entire menagerie including my other Beardie, my leopard gecko and my cat. With each and every one, she knows her stuff, and right off the to of her head. She was honest with my cat's allergies, and told me up front how much testing for it would be, but said it wasn't necessary and didn't try to gouge every dime out of me. When I couldn't figure out why my leopard gecko was eating, they offered to let me drop her off and pick her up after work and even called to let me know she was basically ovulating and needed to lay infertile eggs! Her prices are reasonable and you really get top notch service from every one, from the phone to the desk to the core staff and finally, the doc herself. I live far form this place, but I will never take my animals anywhere else. I really enjoy my visits and I learn so much from them with every visit. read more

Marianne Brick is a Veterinary Goddess when it comes to exotic species. Chinchilla? No problemo. White's Tree Frog? Yes, saved the lives of them multiple times during the 5 years that I have been a caretaker to my "brawpies". White runner duck? You bet. One was waddling around quacking while I overheard Dr. Brick tell a couple that they can't give a duck dog dog food because ducks are vegetarian (technically, the white domestic duck on our lake not only begs for bread, but follows dogs around to get the "recycled" dog food off the lawn, so I bet fresh dog food isn't horrible, and they ain't as vegetarian as Doc Brick thinks; I've seen many a mallard slurp down snails and minnows in our lake. That said, maybe they are just starving because we are not allowed to feed them bread anymore...) They do your standard dog, cat, bird, and rabbit as well. Marianne Brick is the official WCA veterinarian. I didn't even know that when I had to go to her the first time, and I have been an off-and-on volunteer there for ages. Anyway, I highly recommend for herpetological issues. There's nothing better than having your sick MBD/Red Leg-infected frogs come back from the semi-dead. I have a female who is fighting fatty liver disease, and she's actually RECOVERING from the brink of death right now thanks to Dr. Brick. $50 for one frog, $80 for two, and a fecal is about $18. That said, lab work will just suck you dry, but it's worth it to get your reptiles and frogs treated properly. Yeah, I go to a lot of vets in town. That's because I have a lot of pets. I have a mobile vet, I use the VIP shots services, I end up at Mueller all the time in the middle of the night, and I have a Froggy Specialist. I figure if you aren't willing to sacrifice a bit of your money on your pets to cure what ails them, you are not worthy of having any. So, if you have a herp, and it becomes sickly, do not wait. Take it in to see Dr. Brick asap. Who knows? The fix might be really easy. Update: my darling frog Beep developed an extreme swelling in her left arm and her eyeball started bulging/going blind and puffing up in pain when I tried to pick her up, so we took her in the next day and she was euthanized by the office. They were really sweet about it, and composed her little body in the "sleep" position for a frog, and wrapped her in paper towels and said they were really sorry for my loss. Which was really great, because honestly? I was a wreck, and it still makes me cry. Anything in that much pain makes me feel like a bad mommy. Poor sweet beeper. I contacted my local rabbit rescue to ask who the best rabbit vet in the area was and they of course referred me to Dr. Brick. I worked with her and the AMAZING staff closely for 6 years dealing with the many issues my rabbit had. From early morning drop offs, overnight stays and several surgeries, there is no other vet I would have trusted as I did Dr. Brick. Our baby bunny, Willow, who had broken it's leg, had surgery at Madison Avenue Vet Clinic in December 2010. The break was just above the growth plate and a very difficult case indeed, but we knew that Willow was in Dr. Brick's capable hands and would receive in the best possible care. We originally had to go to another emergency clinic because it happened after hours and even at the other clinic they were telling us how good Dr. Brick is... that she even fixes hummingbird wings! WOW! I also find her prices really affordable and less than we've been charged at other vets. We are really thankful for Dr. Brick, for her love of animals and her compassion for the people that "own" them. PetSmart told me that they use this place for their exotic pets; so I had high expectations. I took my hedgehog here for the last three years, up until I had her put down three weeks ago. They were concerned enough with the described symptoms that they didn't want me to wait until next available (3 days later) and fit me in the same day (with a warning that there would be a wait). Lastly, Dr. Brick called me the following day to see how my bird was doing. On a sad note. I brought my bird three times before we opted to do an xray. It turns out that my bird had ingested heavy metal and the treatments weren't really helping . I'm not blaming Dr. Brick. I wish we had the xray on the first visit. I understand small birds are complicated and symptoms could mean many things. Unfortunately, my bird did suffer and I had to make the hard decision to put her to sleep. Would I go back? It is darn hard to find a good rabbit vet in the Sacramento area. I have 3 house bunnies and they are all getting on in years, therefore there have been some health problems. I took my rabbit in to see Dr. Brick on Friday. I was schooled (but in a good way) on exactly what I had been doing wrong, and what I needed to do to treat my little old man. Vet exam $58, was a little pricey, but not too much more than the general area. Medications were also a bit more expensive than the last vet I visited. Bunnies are expensive pets, and the same goes for their vet care. The visit in total was $187. A note: Dr. Brick gives a very expansive stomach massage, that seemed a bit rough on the bunny BUT she knows her stuff. I have been to many, many vets over the past 2 years and Dr. Brick is one of the top bunny vets. A woman I spoke with from the House Rabbit Society takes her buns to Dr. Brick. I went to this vet because it was recommended by a co-worker. It's the vet the company I work for uses. My visit was significantly less than pleasant. I brought my dog in to be treated for demodex (an internal mite problem) I am aware of the most affective treatment to be several shots on the affected areas to clear it up. I have spoken with many veterinarians about this and I did my research. After completely changing her diet to cater to any allergy she might have I ended up here and have my thoughts on the situation. Easy enough. The vet was COMPLETELY RUDE AND DEMEANING! As if her i.q. trampled mine by 100 points. She told me I didn't know what I was talking about and prescribed antibiotics and medicated shampoo. NEITHER of these worked. My dog is now worse than she ever was and I'm treating a new wound from her scratching herself every week. She has an infected wound on her face now that I have been cleaning and taking care of. This vet visit cost me nearly $400. I'm disgusted by her lack of empathy and the fact that I might know what I'm talking about with MY DOG didn't even cross her mind. She did not even try to listen to my insight. She said it could be anything that's causing this. I believe that they are just trying to charge me as much as they can. Not really fix the problem because I'll have to come back for more shampoo. I find it ridiculous not only because her skin is worse than ever but because I was treated with such disrespect by this woman. And my dog is suffering even more than she was to begin with. I took my rabbit in because he was sneezing. I was charged an extra $50 "by mistake." My rabbit was prescribed 3 medications - two of the prescription labels had completely wrong instructions that were so confusing I had to call them back to figure it out (i.e. take twice monthly for two weeks). Also, 6 doses of medication were prescribed for my other healthy rabbit (just in case), but only 2 doses for my sick rabbit. I called to ask why this was and the doctor told me it was because of my "money concerns" - I found this comment insulting as money was never discussed in the appointment. Instead of admitting that several mistakes were made at this appointment, the doctor insulted and blamed me instead. read more

Dr brick is as good as it get's. She literally saved my cat's life....going in for surgery on my kitty that was severEly ill vomiting and out the other end as well for days!!! She did not jump the gun but waited to be sure he wouldn't turn around on his own. Then when it was the only option , she did surgery to remove obstruction that turned out to be severly infected..LONG STORY SHORT my cat would have been cruising the RAINBOW BRIDGE but Dr. Brick snatched him back for us and we will be indeted to her forever! Did it cost a bundle ...yes...it was surgery people ..... then iv, and meds...regardless...we're thrilled. Normal prices are VERY LOW too ...do surgeries add up to be big bucks, YES...but normal stuff is super low here. WE ARE BIG FANS OF DR BRICK. read more

We have been bringing our pets to Dr. Brick at Madison Avenue Veterinary Clinic for 15+ years. I always feel very good about the care my animals receive when I bring them there and know they are in good hands. Dr. Brick is very patient, kind and caring. We had a wonderful experience with this vet. We brought our soft shelled Turtle, Bob to be examined. It's a long story how Bob got sick in the first place, but the entire staff was very attentive and helpful. They spent nearly 1.5 hours educating us on proper care. They were extremely knowledgeable. They were also very considerate, giving us all the information and time necessary to make the difficult decision to try and treat treat or put Bob down. Unfortunately we had to put him down, as he was really suffering. I highly recommend them and will return in the future, hopefully under better circumstances. read more
