In a word, heaven. I consider myself a donut authority as I've sampled them from all over, and Holtman's is one of the best, especially in the area. Their family recipes are definitely worth the drive up from the highway. I had their custard filled maple long john and I could have easily eaten half a dozen of them. We were a little worried that the donuts wouldn't be as amazing as their store downtown- but they are! The store is small, but it doesn't matter. There is a picnic table and small table to sit at and enjoy your treats. To echo other comments- the staff is fabulous. Very patient, nice, and quick. I have been searching for this place my whole life. Ever since I was 4 when my father shared a daily donuts chocolate devils food glazed. The best devils food donut I've ever had. Then krogers ladies would ladle chocolate icing on their already glazed donuts. That fixed me for many years. Next was buskens I read in cincy mag they had the best donut in town. Their extra long and wide long john chocolate iced white creme filled was the best for many years. Satisfied my sweet tooth every week. Then came Holtmans what can I say their dough, the first donut I could eat and would not need any icing or topping. Alas that is not necessary. We had a great variety of donuts to choose from and it was pretty difficult to pick a dozen, which was very reasonably priced. We couldn't wait until we got home and ended up eating one each before we even left the parking lot. They were fresh, delicious, and the quality of the ingredients they used was obvious. This place is the best. Hands down. They have some of the best donuts I have ever tasted. I have never had one bad thing here. I love the cake donuts, especially the blueberry or fudge ones. I love these donuts, they are quiet possible my favorite. But today I called so I could make a pick up order for later, and the lady who answered was very rude. I was asking if there was a box of six donuts I could make and she did not hear me three times, which is fine, it sounded loud I understand, so she kept asking me to repeat myself. After the third or fourth time I repeated myself trying to make myself clearer, the woman on the phone was at her wits end and basically yelled at my and told me prank called was not okay because this is a serious business. First of all anything they make based on doughnut dough is absolutely fabulous. That said, they need to work on the Cake doughnuts. The ones I had were a little heavy and greasy tasting. I am not sure how the regular doughnuts can be so good (they are the best in Cincinnati) and the cake doughnuts so disappointing. The staff is very friendly and it is a place I go to over and over.
