Not all Holtman's are created equal. This was my experience when I went to the Loveland location to get some donuts. I got myself a Buckeye donut, a Cookie Monster donut, & a blueberry cake donut. The blueberry cake donut was the best of the bunch, decent size and very soft. The worst was the buckeye donut, which the peanut butter topping, albeit fluffy, had a burnt taste to it, which ruined the donut. The cookie on top of the cookie monster was hard and stale, which just left me with a sprinkle donut which was alright. It could have been just wanting to have another experience like the location I went to earlier that I give it three stars, but, this was not the same Holtman's experience that I had in West Chester. I had to stop into Holtmans because my boss asked me to pick up doughnuts and coffee for the office very short notice . Allie was working and I can't say enough what a rockstar this girl was! It was a very large order with several jugs of coffee- (that truthfully I would have placed and order for out of courtesy had it not been such short notice) but this girl couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. There were other customers that came in behind me and she multitasked like a champ and kept a great attitude. Holtman's is by far the most superior and delicious donut shop in all of Cincinnati. I've frequented the store in OTR on several occasions and am never disappointed. This particular store gets bonus points for having less foot traffic and therefore a better selection. You really can't buy anything that won't leave you moaning upon first bite, so there's no possible way to screw up your order. So why four stars for something that is so obviously in the best of the best of Cincinnati? The staff. Of all the times I've stopped into this location, I have yet to come across an employee that is pleasant or even able to pretend to enjoy their job. Eye rolls, heavy exhales, and deeply annoyed tones will be had if you DARE to ask a question or even take a second to make your selection. Is it worth the craptastic attitude of the employees? Such a cute Ma & Pa kind of donut shop! I warn you, you just get there early to get the best donuts because it is extremely busy but it it definitely worth any sort of wait. With that said, since the mornings are extremely crowded, the selection does diminish during the day so you'll want to get there early to get first dibs. Pumpkin cake donut with caramel icing. This redefined donuts for me. I didn't even think I really liked cake donuts. This was more desert than pre-office-meeting crack fix. The second was a red raspberry filled, iced treat. The donut was almost a biscuit. It was thick and fluffy and sweet without making your mouth hurt. The icing was more like cake frosting. The raspberry filling was the expected bright red color, but didn't taste like chemicals in a gelatinous base. Is the coffee fancy? No, not by a long shot, but it's simple, straightforward, and it gets the job done. The total bill was under $3!! Take that Starbucks! I have a confession: I'm sort of an anti-donut snob...or at least I may be a recovering one now. I just never felt like fried dough and processed sugar was worth the calories and the sugar crash. I finally made the trek to Loveland to try out Holtman's... and everyone is right! Amazing donuts! I got three and ate them all that same day. I couldn't even be patient enough to take a picture to post on Yelp before devouring them. What I didn't expect was their super-friendliness. It felt like a really fun place to be, and the employee was very nice. A couple tips-- on weekdays, Holtman's Loveland location is now open until 11PM. I don't know about you, but nighttime is actually when I have my sweet tooth cravings. And if you want to see drool-worthy donut pictures everyday, 'like' them on Facebook. But be warned.
