Holtmans donuts CANNOT be topped. Sadly we've been there three times in the last 3 weeks on Friday nights to have for Saturday morning, and their selection is really low. My favorite doughnuts have always been cake doughnuts, and this is the BEST place to get them. We live 30 minutes away, and we will make the trip to Holtman's just to get ahold of some of these bakery bad boys. The are just as amazing cold as they are fresh out of the oven & glazed. While cake doughnuts are my favorite, I have always tended to stay away from yeast doughnuts- they seemed dry and flavorless. When the Holtman's ladies encouraged me to try a yeast, I instantly became a fan... and now always get their yeast doughnuts. It is incredibly delicious! My favorite doughnuts are now the "kettle cooked"- a doughnut that is light, flaky, and has a cinnamon sweet glaze on top. OMG. I usually buy 2 of them at a time, and by the time we get home, I've finished eating both. This is a small place, and they have odd hours (4a-11a, 7p-11p), but you've got to try them today! At my first day of work at my new job there was a box of Holtman's on my desk. I assumed they were a hipster join new to the game in OTR. Little did I know that this slice of donut heaven had been outside my doorstep for years! It says Loveland, but I'd say it is more Goshen--just a little over 10 minutes from old Milford, straight out 28. I don't know what Holtman's do but these are literally the best donuts I've ever had in my life. Not too sweet, not too heavy. Not too dense, not too dry. Literal perfection. It's a family run business (younger generation opened the OTR location) and it is anything but pretentious or hipster. Just good scratch made donuts of all sorts of varieties. There are more modern flavours like bacon (amazing) or fruity pebbles but the classics are just as good. I'm so glad I realized how close this is to my house, although my waist line might beg to differ. read more
