Came here for a funeral of a woman I never met, and couldn't point out in person if my life depended on it. But she was someone who looked out for a family member dear to me on an overseas trip. This review is based on my experience as a guest for friends' funeral service. 'Tis the season so immediately at entry, one can't help but notice most plots are individually decorated for the holidays. Kinda cool. It was a first run for me, so it was a must to get directions. Security manning the kiosk welcomed us with a friendly smile and pointed us exactly where we needed to be. He even knew of specifics, How much time we had left before the mass and burial. The church/chapel was impressive. The whole service was solemn and almost majestic. Even the burial ceremony was very formal and dignified. FUN FACT: There are a few famous peeps buried here: John Candy, Walter O'Malley, Sharon Tate. I can't speak about their hired services, but as a guest, I was impressed. We went to discuss the funeral arrangements for my mother-in-law. Their rooms do not accommodate more than 4 people, so bigger families either have to wait outside and be secluded from the important decisions or have to be going back and forth. When we went somewhere else (which we should of done the same place we did my father-in-law, since they were respectful from the first phone call) we were placed in a bigger room. From the moment my sister in law called, this place was very disheartening. Lack of courtesy, customer service, empathy. The energy of a used car sales person fits the description perfectly here. My mother in law really wanted to get buried here with most of her relatives. The consultation was better than the tragic phone calls. Except that the woman showed us the chapel as a funeral was taking place. I didn't look as I found that to be as tacky as tacky can get. I wasn't going to be disrespectful. Shame on her, as she was taking as if the funeral wasn't taking place. We were told that the flowers we purchased would be placed on the coffin during the mass, and we will have a floral arrangement there with her picture. Like in all the funerals I been...not the case here. They placed the flowers when the coffin went from the church to the mausoleum . The arrangement of flowers was at the entrance of the mausoleum, not sure if it was ours and the flowers sent for the service by family members were not at the church either. They provide the worst service that I've ever seen in my entire life Last year I went through for difficult situation because my family member passed away they supposed to help me with my family's death certificate, after several calls and texts and no responses from them . I was decided got there and they treated me like a fucking stupid go back and forth between all the staff members but never responding to my request, After 8 moths later, I decided asked for my money back and they still refused to pay me This makes feel bad and stressed because I wasted my time and money and at the same time feel miserable and frustrated and mocked from them I don't recommend anyone use their services because believe me, it will be a total nightmare for your family. Terrible Stay away!!!!! I would not have used these people, except that my mom had already bought a plot there. They picked her up with a van that had other bodies in it ,the people were sketchy! Completely unavailable after you pay. Never put the book out at the funeral or the mass cards. We went to the cemetery for the burial and nobody was there for our schedule 10 . DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE SCAMMERS!!! my uncle had passed away last year and my aunt had decided to do business with this awful mortuary. death certificates were supposed to be included in the package she paid for. i don't know many times someone can overlook somebody not getting what they paid for especially in such a difficult time in their life. she had waited EIGHT MONTHS to no avail waiting for the certificates that she needed. we had to pay out of our pocket for them when they were included in the package which was also signed in a contract. after sourcing them from somewhere else we asked for a refund for what we did not receive. at first they blew her off and said to just wait. then they stopped returning our calls. then when we showed up in person we asked to speak to a higher up about getting our money back. i don't know who's idea it was to put a brain dead idiot at the front desk but MARY had just given a nasty attitude on top of bullshit excuses saying that "the manager RAMON that signs the refund checks is on vacation and we don't know when he's back" after making them sit in their lobby for almost 2 hours. we have been back twice and it's always someone as incompetent as the last person. they are either slow or apart of this scam. we are determined to get our refund back. if we don't get this refund we do plan on going to small claims court. so please for the love of our Lord RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS HELL HOLE!!!! imagine my surprise when we had seen the horrible rate this place has. and there are so many other people that i have spoken to that have experienced the same thing with these con artists. hopefully they too take this awful mortuary to court too for all the pain they have inflicted on them. Terrible experience. Used Gates Kingsley Gates when my father passed away and had no problems. My mother passed away 2/6/25 and I used Holy Cross mortuary - big mistake! We asked for for a rosary and no one showed up. We happened to find a deacon in the lobby who did it for us. The prayer cards and guest book had the wrong year of death - they put 2024 instead of 2025. We also didn't get the flowers we paid for. Sent emails to Angelina Montiel asking about my mother's death certificates. Didn't bother to answer my emails. After complaining a few times I was told they happened to arrive yesterday and they can sometimes take up to 3 weeks to arrive to which I said my mother passed away over 5 weeks ago. The woman stayed silent and apologized. Would strongly advise to arrange your mortuary services elsewhere. They are not organized. For those of you that have rated Holy Cross low on the one star rating-I wish I could give them -100. My mother passed two years ago. I contacted Holy Cross to make arrangements. They were unable to find her records. She had purchased several plots nearly ten years before her death. They were rude and would offer no help even though we had the paperwork. A week later they called to apologize after finding her purchasing records. I had already made other arrangements. After submitting everything they have asked for, I have been ignored for almost a year and a half. I have requested a refund on the plots purchased as we will no longer need them due to having made other arrangements for my mother. I have lost my faith dealing with Holy Cross. The admin staff in charge of any paperwork are so inefficient, and lack the basic skills for customer service. They don't return phone calls, and make up lame excuses for not doing their job! They treat you worse then dirt, once you've paid them. There's an unbelievable wait to just to get the inscribed plaque on your niches, and they won't let you go elsewhere to have it done. This place is a greedy business with zero compassion. My father had his service there and wish we had gone somewhere else. From the beginning, they refused to talk to me, his daughter and next of kin. They would only speak to his "wife" and refused to talk to anyone else which made it hard to plan everything. Even when going to appointments, they would only speak to his "wife" and would not even look me in the eye. They didn't even give me condolences. They only speak to those who are signing the bottom line. This business needs some empathy training and leaders who help employees tie their everyday work to their bigger purpose - helping bring closure and putting their loved ones to rest. They treat everything as very transactional with no heart. It appears none of the staff has ever lost a loved one based on how they treat their customers. Not to mention it's disgustingly expensive. For pricing reference, burials start at $18K and services at $6k (total of $24K) or $8500 for cremation + service. For this much money, the least they could do is have more availability for appointments and better overall service. Save yourself some money and a headache and bury your loved ones somewhere else. This place has the dead burying the dead. And have the staff pull their sticks out of their behinds. They need to have some basic courtesy and customer service skills. read more

I would like to file a complaint regarding an incident me and my family had with one of your employees on 1/14/23 at Holy Cross Mortuary/Cemetery in Culver City. We were there for my aunt's viewing and funeral mass. We were allowed to use one of the rooms for refreshments for our guests. Just before the mass, I personally removed all the food and drinks, except for the case of bottled waters (as it was too heavy to carry) and threw all the waste in the trash cans in the room. After the funeral, a lady came up to my son, 2 aunts (who were elderly) and my cousin and spoke to them in a rude voice. She told them "to make sure (we) left the room the way we got it." She proceeded to tell us that we needed to clean the room. This is when I stepped in and said that I had already put everything away. My aunts, my cousin, my son and myself walked back to the room and someone had left a bottled water on the table and a used napkin, which my son threw away. This lady proceeded to tell my son that he was supposed to empty the 2 trash cans and combine them into one trash bag. This is not my son's or anyone of my families' jobs! We are a grieving family and that fact that this lady, your employee, demands us to empty trash cans is absolutely unacceptable. Furthermore, when I asked her name, she completely ignored me and picked up the telephone to talk to someone else. I spoke to another employee, Jin, who said her name was "Marie" but she could not give me her last name. So I don't even know if she gave me the correct name of the employee. I have been trying to get a hold of someone at the mortuary offices to address this and everyone I have spoken to on the phone have not been helpful or forthcoming as to whom I can address this issue with. Messages have been on voicemails and still no response. No manager is available to speak to. Update:I have spoken to the manager and she has apologized for Marie's behavior. It is part of the agreement that if a family uses their room for the refreshment area that the family must clean the room and empty the trash. There was a designated family member who aware of the arrangement but she was not available at the time. read more

A couple of months ago had to bury a loved one. I know it sounds dramatic, but I have never met a more insensitive team of security in my life. William was rude, condescending, and should frankly not work with grieving people. He told my family not to record my loved one being lowered. (Which I later found out was so you couldn't get proof when you try to sue them for doing something wrong. Tells you all you need to know about how good of a job they do.) This wouldn't have been an issue, but he laughed at my aunt with a smirk when he was telling her. He even shamed her saying "you don't record, you're at a cemetery." It took everything in me not to completely lose it on that clown. This is how you'll be treated at this place. Not with sympathy or dignity. You'll be treated like you're 19 years old trying to get into a club with a fake ID. Now when I think about my grandfather's burial place, I think about William and how he treated us. read more

Having grown up back east where Christmas festivities are plentiful, I've been surprised that LA is rather wimpy when it comes to the decorative spirit. Well, I'm glad I discovered at least one neighborhood that got into the Xmas mood this season. Of course, I would never have expected that neighborhood to be a cemetery. I found tiny trees to full-sized trees festooned with ornaments, garland and stars on display at gravesite after gravesite. One tree had music emanating from somewhere within its tangle of branches. An army of variously-sized Santas were deployed on hill after hill. Manger scenes with little statuettes were positioned on flat granite gravestones. Cotton carpets of fake snow were rolled out over the grass and edged with tiny white picket fences. Christmas cards were left by well-wishers. I even saw an empty liquor bottle well placed. The holiday landscape here was no spontaneous assemblage of leftover decorations. This was a deliberation of careful craft -- all very serious -- and many individual sites left the impression that they were planned and executed with the aid of homemade architectural drawings and a trained crew of family members. read more

My review is bitter sweet. I had come here for my good friend's service and I wasn't looking forward to it. The guards in the front were nice and let us know which ways to go both days. The coordinator was cordial and was professional. I really liked the beautiful pond by the front gate. It was serene and had many turtles frolicking that I knew my friend would like. The priest/pastor was very humble in his speech during the mass. He tried to introduce humor into the situation as we were to celebrate my friend's life. (Sorry I'm not Catholic/church goer so please don't mind me) The rosary was also well done; however, there are definitely not enough seats for the amount of people who were there. So I would note that if you have a large party, it will get cramped and hot. It's a beautiful place and I can believe it's expensive. read more

Although they did help my family with explaining the cost of the use of the chapel and funeral services for my grandma's passing, I give them three stars because they didn't meet the needs of my family with putting my grandma's grave stone in the area where she's laid to rest. It's already been a month, going on to two months since her passing and still we have to use a rose or some item so we know where she's located. My mom and my sister have tried speaking with one of the ladies in the mortuary about this and they either don't answer the phone or don't think this is relevant. It states on their Yelp page that they celebrate the life of a loved one but it doesn't seem and feel that way, in my opinion. I don't know if this is because of the amount of families the mortuary is serving or whatever the case may be, at the end of the day I would like to find my grandma's grave when I visit her. If my family doesn't put any flowers where she's laid to rest we won't be able to find her. I hope they'll be able to put her stone soon because two months to me feels like a long time to be asking to put a grave stone on. The world can start spinning so fast that priorities get flung about and perspective is dampened overall. Holy Cross seems to do a great job at 'pulling me back' into reality. I was introduced to this cemetery by my Wife during our dating years. She has several loved ones who were laid to rest here. One actually passed away on my birthdate some years back. The upkeep of this property is solid, and professional. I've found it to be a really beautiful & peaceful place. From the Catholic church sanctuary, to the grounds...even though it's a graveyard, I enjoy the sights and atmosphere. *some of the best views in Los Angeles IMO* Morning mass here is really nice, laid back and enlightening. The people who attend are always super nice and very caring. The priests and nuns are as well. Over the years, I've spent hours walking the halls and driving/strolling around the grounds, viewing the stained glass, sculptures/statues and many of the gravestones/vaults. There is security on the premises and a flower & gift shop as well. This place is pretty big overall. I don't like to talk about death but it is a part of life that we'll all have to face one day. As I was driving through the gate, Enya came on and it freaked me out a little. Hesistant to check-in here as normally "checking in" here would be the last thing you want to do, I did it anyway. I was surpised to see there were only four reviews while taking into account the many graves here, clearly a lot more would want to review the place. But then again, death has always been a taboo subject that is not frequently touched upon, as infrequent as sex after ten years of marriage...you might have to do it but only if it's absolutely necessary. Driving up and down along the grassy hills, I couldn't help but to notice how calm and serene the whole place was. Little not too far up of one of the hills was my grandpa's resting place. His grave had always been well kept. The maintenance crew here would not let the grass grew more than an inch. They must have watered it regularly too as it always exuded the freshest shade of green. Top of the hill would be the Chapel of the Risen Christ where services for the deceased performed. When there wasn't a service the dead-silent chamber returned to its somber tone. Double functioning as a masoleum, the hollow interior walls housed rows of sepulchrals all decked out with pristine slabs of marble with gold letter engravings. The families made sure their loved ones were laid to rest here with proper respect and decorum. My aunt's and uncle's cinerary urns were also housed here, the cheapest option for real estate at this place. As we were walking out, my mom complained that she should have bought two plots for my dad and her when land was still cheap. My other aunt did. The notion of preparing for your death still bothered me immensely and I voiced my sentiment by not responding. As we drove away, I wondered what I would want to do with my body when the time comes. read more

Buyer Beware! This place deserves zero stars. The office staff is unprofessional and rude at best. No one answers the phone and when they do they tell you someone will call you back and no one ever does. If you leave a voicemail, they don't have the courtesy to return your call. When you go in person, everyone literally ignores you and gives you attitude. There is no compassion, sympathy or empathy as you would expect from a Catholic Mortuary/Cemetery. It's been months since the burial and I can't even get an appointment to order a headstone. I am literally standing in the office and they wouldn't help or schedule an appointment. It is completely unacceptable. The management and employees should be ashamed of how they treat people and STOP blaming everything on Covid! Our uncle recently passed away and coordinating with Felicia is a pain. She does not reply to emails, or phone calls. We cannot move forward with some of our plans to celebrate his life and send out information to all our family members and relatives. They have destroyed most of the headstones in this cemetary with their mowers. There was no problem for more than 35 years or so, but then they switched to practically grinding the tops off the headstones. If you complain they offer to sell you a new one, with no guarantee they won't ruin that one too. When you suggest that they should replace the headstone since they destoyed it they have no answer. They also say they will have one of their staff polish the stones and they never do. Now they want money to do so and tell you it won't last more than six months. Even the famous people in the cemetary have had their stones destroyed. Greedy and unsympathetic. Unfortunately we have four family members here. Just had my mother interred at Woodlawn in Santa Monica and they were wonderful. read more

My post comes with complete sadness. My grandma who I was very very close to passed away a few days ago. She has had her plot, casket, etc all ready paid for for AT LEAST 20 YEARS!!! This is a horrible funeral home. We can't even plan a date or anything until we meet on Wednesday!
