It was a pain to get to, but it was well worth the long walk from the MoPop/Space Needle. Their lager was decent and their IPAs were great. My only gripe is that one of the barkeeps was a bit rude, maybe because my partner and I weren't metal and wearing all black... kinda turned me off, but we ended up having a nice conversation with some other patrons from the midwest! Really cool place with awesome merch and stellar brews--just not the most inviting if you don't fit ~the vibe~, so to speak. read more

While vacationing in Seattle, my fiancé & I checked out about 10 different breweries. Holy Mountain was by far our favorite. First things first, the beers are DELICIOUS. We got a flight & every single one was outstanding. Some of my favorite craft beers I've ever had (that's saying a lot). I loved the atmosphere as well. Big, open industrial style building with giant garage doors that bring the outdoors in when the weather is nice. It was sunny, warm and beautiful inside, honestly. The employees were so laid back which for me, always leads to a great brewery experience overall. We didn't get any food but they do offer some. Parking was also a breeze. Definitely will go on my list of favorite breweries of all time. read more

Went here with my girlfriend about two weeks ago while we were visiting Seattle. Beer was pretty good. Service from the one bartender we interacted with was disappointing. Location-wise, it's on a busy road and far from pretty much anything else interesting. Inside has a pretty standard industrial/minimalist brewery, there's some outdoor seating too. For beer, we tried The Sentience of Animals and River of the World. We intended on getting half pours so that we could try 4 different beers. Unfortunately, we ended up only trying 2 because the bartender was rude and the beer wasn't worth giving them more money (refer below). Those 2 beers were good, so if that's all you want to know, go try them out. I haven't complained about service on here before but this experience was so dumb and easily fixable, I have to say something: Dark-haired woman with tattoos wearing overalls working the afternoon of 8/29/22. Generally, I don't care if bartenders, waiters, etc are not overly friendly and they just do their job of serving customers. But you're still in a customer service job so you should try at least minimally to please your customers. My girlfriend very clearly asked for two HALF pours, was served two FULL pours, and when she pointed out the mistake, the bartender pointed to the iPad and said, "I have 2 full pours here." Obviously you do, because you typed that in! And it was a mistake on your part, not ours... Even if my girlfriend had ordered incorrectly - she did not because I heard her order - how hard would it be to say, "sorry, my mistake" and either give us new half-pours, or be less wasteful and just give us the beers for the price of the half pours that we ordered??? Having worked in a cafe before, that would be my first instinct. Again, not a huge deal, just so dumb ‍ Beer 4/5, service 1/5 (at least she didn't spill the beer). read more

Beer really was fantastic and their industrial location complete with train tracks passing close to the back of the building adds to the overall ambiance. I am curious how they picked their name, creating the expectation that their is a link to Led Zeppelin but alas, not any evidence outside the name. Would definitely return if in the area. read more

What great, knowledgeable service here to go with the equally great brews! This was a target destination of a friend who works at Firestone-Walker so I had the pleasure of having expert taste buds accompany me on this visit. We all went with half glass tasters of our choices and I started with a concoction called Second Death which is a Helles Lager. I've been missing Ninkasi Lux which is their Helles Lager. I don't have much to compare since Lux was my first of this style but side by side, Lux had this "brightness" in the flavor that I can't put to beer nerd words. It might even been the difference of comparing cold bottle to tap. My own naivete aside, Second Death was pleasantly palatable and would make for a choice session beverage. My other picks were Demonteller, a foudre-aged saison, and Vienna, which was a oak fermented saison with fresh loral hops. I'm quite new to saisons as well but both were not offensive as I am experimenting with these new flavors. Our bartender was super informative and really knew his shit and was able to make comparisons with my Firestone friend about the beers she tried. It's all about the beer here with a couple snack options but don't expect trail mix and chicharrones to soak you out of a DUI. All in all, I found the beer selection interesting and the chill vibe relaxing. I hope to find myself here in the not far future. read more

Honestly, really good beer.... BUT, it's 20 minutes till they close and we couldn't get a beer. Not a huge deal but then the dude working was a complete four letter word starts with D about it. This was the first brewery I stopped into in Seattle, and I did quite enjoy it. It's super out of the way, which means you have to really want to go there, which means it was super chill. And the people there were all super friendly and definitely knew their stuff. And they don't have a very large tap-list, but what they do have, is pretty interesting and varied. But when I go beer tasting, I like going beer *tasting*. Granted, it's not really all that weird that they won't let you try a splash of anything first, since their beer is clearly of quite high quality, and thus, presumably, not cheap to make (though, most breweries do that, which is great, but when I first got into beer, I thought it was insane that most places *were* willing to do that). But not letting you taste anything first, and then also not having tasters, just half-pours, means I had to commit to a 6oz pour just based on guesswork, which is kinda lame. Their half-pour prices are super reasonable for the quality (in the 3-4 dollar range mostly), but still. Anyway, clearly the first beer I tried was their bba brown, which was unsurprisingly super delicious. Then I wanted to try one more, so I went with the "White Lodge", which was indicated to have been brewed with coriander and citrus peel... didn't taste like it at all, just tasted like a typical wheat beer. I imagine if you liked typical light beers you'd like it, but it wasn't really my thing, which I wish I could have determined in advance and wasted less of their beer. You can put on your drinking boots in the parking lot. They've taken over a small light-industrial space next to the train tracks in Interbay. You come south along Elliott Avenue, note the sign (for the brewery, or for the distillery next door), and turn into the next parking lot. Out back, where the freight trains thunder by, you park on gravel. They also provide a front door for those who score street parking (or who don't come by car). Out back, you look for the little wobbly wizard's hat logo, walk up a small flight of wooden stairs in between the loading docks, and enter an austere cell of white walls, white tiles, and white people. Well, quite a few white people, anyway, with big beards on about half of them. There's some clean, spare blond IKEA-ish furniture providing a medium-sized array of seats for crowds that can occasionally get large. On nice days, the loading dock door rolls up to fill the space with air and light and the whispering tiptoe of the freight trains 25 feet away. Honestly, though, the only person next to these train tracks yesterday who looked like a hobo was me. Well, that's not completely true. There were a couple others. But they all had great taste in beer. Behind the bar you'll see: sturdy little white tap handles, glassware, cash register, hi-fi system, a long counterfull of clean Puget Sound atmosphere, and an action figure of Jerry Only brandishing his bass guitar at whomever is sitting on Stool 4 today. And that would be you. You're here for the beer. No coloring books, no yoga classes, no square dancing. Beer. This is beer that deserves your full attention. They serve shining examples of a huge variety of very drinkable styles. A few years ago, seemingly every brewery had lineups of hefty double IPAs, imperial stouts, barleywines, and other atomic bombs of flavor. Those atomic bombs haven't gone anywhere, but brewers have since filled in the field around them. with lighter and more repeatable styles--Holy Mountain is out in front with many of these styles around here. They DO offer an amazing double IPA (Astral Projection), and other big beer styles, but the session styles (lighter beers) here are not merely great. They're eye-opening. When we came in, the offerings included Zwickelbier, an unfiltered pilsner most common in olden Germany. The cloudy yeast gives it a ton of flavor for 5%, and you can drink it all day without feeling like you've been knocking back bowls of oatmeal and vodka. Their pale ale, Kiln and Cone, shows huge fruity hop notes in a very light ale. K&C changes a bit from batch to batch, showcasing different malts and hops with just enough of a punch that you can keep your gloves up and your feet under you, without flattening you on first contact. They produce a wide variety of Belgian farmhouse ales, changing yeasts or fruit ingredients or alcohol content or different processes for finishing the beer. They have modestly explained in local beer media that these styles require a bit of understanding and attention to detail, but no particular good luck in order to make well. Don't be fooled by their humility. These styles are incredibly easy to get wrong, and you can find wrong examples in any beer store. Making beers like The Goat and The Seer and The Ox requires creative vision, patience, perfectionism, and technical finesse. Actually, making all beer well requires all of those things. But HMBC beers not only show the precision that comes with technical mastery of the process, they show incredible personality and presence, along with crystal-clear flavors. When you find brewers that have infinite wells of skill and vision, like these guys do, you drink their beers over and over again. We tried other beers here this weekend, as we have at other locations over the last few months. They keep adding more new beers, seems like at least once a week, and they're always interesting. As a beer drinker, you need to get in here and try these guys' beers. Whether you're old, jaded, and hard to please or just learning about styles other than yellow water and IPAs-IPAs-IPAs, you'll see quickly that these guys add to the list of reasons to brag about Washington beer. We're actually not the best beer state in the U.S. (that would be Oregon), so we need a few more breweries like this that do exceptional work. Eventually, Holy Mountain will be more than exceptional. There's every reason for them, right now, to produce beers that belong among the absolute best in the world. Do that for a few years and you're more than just a good operation with a few medals behind the bar. Just try what they've made already. It's easy to hear Russell Wilson's voice echoing: "Why not us?". read more

Passing by on the main street, you wouldn't notice that there is a fairly large brewing operation going on inside. They have a tiny parking lot that they share with the wholesale gourmet food place next door. If you drive around back, there's a much larger parking space that makes sense when you walk inside to a medium sized taproom. They have a very nordic industrialist vibe going on that works in this setting. I think the roar of the train passing by the back door actually adds to the allure of the industrial beer sipping experience. They only do full and half pours here so no samplers to be had. The full pour seems to be of much better value. Their house pale ale, Kiln & Cone had a very malty finish. A unique, not overly hopped pale. Their Holy Mountain Black Beer was available on nitro so of course that's what I got. Looks like a Guinness but tastes much better. I'm not sure how much I would enjoy this if it wasn't on nitro since after the head began dying, so did the flavor. They seem to have different versions of King's Head. On this occasion it was bourbon barrel aged. They aren't joking around when they say it tastes like coconut and marshmallow. It really does! Maybe a little too much. The espresso infused version of King's Head on nitro was even better! It sips like a potent iced cold brew coffee. At $7 for a full pour, the price is right too. This beer is exactly what I was expecting when I bookmarked this unknown brewery, located off the beaten path. Certainly worth the trip way out to this land the locals refer to as Interbay. While the majority of their beer style don't really appeal to me, you would be wise to check out this up 'n coming brewery. Especially if if you enjoy funky beer styles. You may just find a new favorite beer. read more

Fantastic beer. Everything we tasted ranged from great to exceptional. The double ipa, Astral Projection, competes with Pliny the Elder. It is a very well balanced and truly delicious beer. This was the first brewery we stopped by while in Seattle, only because we knew we had to come here first. The tasting room is huge, with vast white walls and angled wooden benches and countertops. There are plenty of seats at the bar, on the tables, and in the booths. The beertenders were all friendly and checked up on us often. Our favorite: Cascade Table Sour. I wish they still had bottles of this! Other solid brews: The Wrest, Misere au Borinage, Celestial Lineage, Kiln & Cone, Wheel of the Year, Bonne Nuit The building itself is easy to miss when you're driving by and the parking lot in the front is kind of small, but they have additional parking in the back. All in all, a definite must-drink while in Seattle. read more

Holy Mountain Brewing - That Cascade Table Sour though - Breweries Near Me - Seattle, Washington

I've been anticipating the opening of this tap room for what seems like forever. Since I first heard about Holy Mountain online somewhere I've been pumped to read they will be be putting an emphasis on barrel aged beers and have a sour program. I've been following their progress on their Facebook page and was able to try a couple of their early release beers around town late last year (their outstanding Equinox Fresh Hop ale and their Hoppy Saison). Both lived up to the hype so I couldn't wait to try more. This past weekend they finally had their taproom grand opening at their spot in Interbay. I didn't make it over for some beers until Sunday. The place was packed. I think I found the only open seat in their large tap room. Clearly lots of people have been waiting for these guys. First let me put the hop heads at ease, they know what they are doing in that area as well. I tried a full pour of their Astral Projection DIPA, which was probably one of the better Seattle DIPAs I've ever had. It was extremely balanced and smooth with great hop flavor and aroma. They also had a special keg tapped of their DIPA aged on cedar. Not sure I had ever had a cedar aged beer, but it was great. I also tried a half pour of their Gose, which is one of my favorite beer styles (old German sour wheat beer with salt and spices). This style is starting to get pretty popular around the country but a lot Of them I have tried lately just haven't had quite the right ratio of sour to salt. These guys nailed it! The tap room is large and bright with a large L shaped bar as well as tables and booths. There is an alley out back where they had a sausage food truck and there is free overflow parking back there as well. Recently moving nearby I plan to be a regular at this place. Can't wait for my next visit to try more of what these guys are brewing! read more

I haven't reviewed anything since it looks like 2014- so here's 4 years of expert opinion from some dickhole you shouldn't be paying attention to. I was googling whether Holy Mountain allows dogs, because I have a Bernese Mountain dog, and apparently on yelp it said "yes." The answer is no- no kids, no puppies, no dogs, no pets. They still get five stars because they're a brewery, not a day care. Holy Mountain is probably my favorite local brewery. Fort George isn't local and broke my heart with a seasonal saison they'll never make again, so fuck it, Holy Mountain is #1. I didn't actually go here until a few months back, I just drink their stuff, and I live close enough, but I had friends in town. You know, my best friend who is a lecherous child-hating accounts receivable guy who moonlights operating a tabletop games empire and his ol' lady who is one of those everything-she-takes-a-picture-of-is-instagram-gold with the foodie things and the drink photos and all that. We had a blast. They bought t-shirts, I just got drunk and had sausages. What prompted me to review it was some lady putting them on blast about not allowing them in with children, and then saying she's from New York. Go back to New York you jagoff. There's only one city that can be like "oh man Seattle sucks the food is terrible and the bars close early" and that's Chicago.. but we have very little for breweries other than Wisconsin and Indiana (god bless New Glarus and Three Floyds). You can't have a better time going here. The only downside is the Spaghetti Factory closed just south of here, so if you want to get dinner, I recommend bringing pocket tamales. edit- I took like 10 minutes to write this review and by the time I finished, it was 10pm, and they were closed. We've been to tons of breweries in Colorado, Cali and now Seattle and Holy Mountain has the best selection of the most consistently tasty beers on tap! My cousin who lives in Seattle took us there as it is her favorite brewery. The menu changes regularly so it's unlikely you'll get to try the same thing months later. I love that! I had the King's head and the black beer both of which were dark, dry, malty and not heavy. My boyfriend had 5 different beers and he loved every one of them. He's a juicy IPA lover and the juiciest one was called Lush Land. It was cloudy in color and juicy and just perfect. He kept raving about it and is still talking about it days later. The space is large and beautiful. Staff there know their beers and are friendly. I wish we lived closer because we would be frequent visitors for sure. For Seattle this is as good as it gets for beer. Sure there are some amazing spots in Oregon but if you are a fan of wild ales/sours, this place is one of the best in the area. One of the most unique breweries that really puts time and effort into their beers. The taproom itself is pretty bare bones but the beer certainly makes up for it. I've tried so many of their beers over the past couple years that I can't seem to find a favorite. Their whitbier styles are definitely tasty, but what really sets them apart is their saisons. They not only have multiple when most breweries have only one, but each one has a unique taste with different lengths/styles of fermentation. I definitely recommend starting with a saison, but if that's not your cup of tea (or beer), they have a little something for everyone including IPAs, pales, lagers, porters, and a rotating cider. Every time I come here their beer list changes offering more to try. Keep it up Holy Mountain! read more

I made the pilgrimage. I perused the beer list. I started with the Half Man Half Saison and it was a delicious blend. From there I had the Wit beer and it tasted like a Mimosa with the citrus taste. And to end I had the Helmsman which was a Dark ale and the hint of chocolate was great. This is a brewery so they have no food. They have snacks and not many food options are close by. Being situated by the railroad tracks with a loading dock entrance might fool some into thinking this isn't the most kick-ass brewery to open in Seattle recently. Don't be one of them. Holy Mountain has a lot to offer and I imagine the following for this place will increase tenfold this summer. The space itself is welcoming and has an industrial feel to it, made warm with the sunlight pouring in from an open dock door. The service is phenomenal; the people who work here want to be here. Moreover, they are knowledgeable in a completely unpretentious way--something to be cherished for sure. They don't have food which worried me as I landed here after hiking Mount Pilchuck. Fear not, you with the growling stomach, Holy Mountain has you covered. Pagliacci Pizza delivers and the man pouring your beer is happy to give you a menu (bless his sweet heart). The beer, yes, let's touch on the beer. It's good stuff. Seems like lately when a new brewery pops up I am disappointed with the home brew like beers offerred, almost like someone didn't want to invest the time necessary to hone their craft and make a truly phenomenal beer. Not here. Not at all. With the exception of the Saison (overly acidic, unfortunate puke-like flavor), every single beer that crossed my lips was met with a smile. Kiln and Cone should not be missed--crisp and citrusy and hoppy and wholly drinkable. Note your mileage may vary as the mix of hops used isn't consistent making for a unique taste each time. A fun place for craft beers! This place is pretty simplistic with stone counters, tables, and benches, but they serve their purpose. Plenty of space available for groups and it doesn't get overly loud. They serve a wide variety of saison beers, and I ended up trying one of their ginger beers from Timbers. The apple rose ginger beer had a fairly weak ginger note, probably more like a whisper of ginger, but there was a sour apple note. I probably would not order this drink again, but would like to come back to try their original ginger beer! read more
