My slab of ribs was really fatty and the outer pieces of meat where a bit hard in texture, and to top it off the membrane was still attached to the back of the slab. Service was fast and efficient. Their pulled pork is really good. I love their pork sandwiches just as they come with the cole slaw on them. If you are not a vinegar based bbq sauce person, they do offer a traditional bbq sauce. It's a great quick meal. Also, my family LOVES the corn salad, which is not listed on their menu. They also have the nicest people working their drive through. Stopped by on the recommendation of a business associate while in town for a meeting. I say "stopped by" because your choice is drive through or walk up. No inside OR outside seating available so everything is to go. Choices are fairly limited. I opted for the Lunchbox meal. This includes a sandwich (pulled pork, chopped beef bbq, or bbq turkey), a small side of potato salad, a small side of bbq beans, a cookie, and a large drink. If you're a super size kind of eater or have a large appetite, this won't be enough for you. It was perfect size for me but I like normal portions when I eat. The potato salad is average, mustard based, and tastes like everyone else's. The beans are really good; think baked beans with a kick and better flavor. I ordered the beef bbq sandwich. It comes topped with coleslaw. It really didn't have much flavor. Some smokiness but that's it. I was disappointed. I wonder if I should have asked for extra sauce. Overall I wasn't impressed but I also wasn't turned off enough to say don't try it. I may even try the pork next time and get the extra sauce. It's good enough to try again once. read more

First (and LAST) visit!!! To try it out, I ordered 1/2 Slab BBQ Ribs and 1/2 BBQ Chicken. The leg & wing portions were juicy, they were excellent. However, the thigh & breast portions were INCREDIBLY DRY. They were inedible. The BBQ Ribs were RAW... Bright RED and RAW!!!!!!!!!! Never again. read more

My wife & I try to get a Togo meal at least once a week from local restaurants to try to help during our social isolation. Though we have gotten barbecue chickens & pork from Whitt's many time before we decided on a slab of ribs. They were delicious. So tender they almost fell off the bones. They provide sauce to coat them in if you desire & it had a really good flavor. I called in my order & the line to the drive in was almost to 6th Ave but they are so efficient that I got our order really fast. I can highly recommend Whitt's ribs. I'm a simple eater......I only get the pulled pork sandwich.....ask for it PLAIN otherwise you will get slaw/chow on top which ruins the sandwich IMHO......anyways, you would think their homemade sauce would be better than what it is....it is waaaay too watery for my taste, so I carry Arby's sauce in my truck glove box and just put that on it or Tabasco. Their buildings need to be painted/sided, but don't judge the sandwich on that,,,they are tasty. read more

Do you won't the best "Bama Style" pulled pork sandwich in Alabama? This is your place. I've been eating here since I was a child, and I am pleased that to this day over 30 years later they are still the shizzle. I know what I'm talking about, hence I grew up in the south and I have visited the best bbq styles around the country, and I was the kitchen manager and pit master at restaurants like Jim N' Nicks bbq and have consulted many bbq restaurants in their opening ventures. EVERYTHING here is always amazing, my only complaint is that I wish they had picnic tables outside so when I'm out and about I don't have to eat in my car. Otherwise, service is quick and consistent with a strong emphasis on value, bbq, family, local, love, passion, and southern hospitality at it's fullest. Roll Tide!! read more

I dont even know what to say. If I had not been craving bbq since leaving va beach I would have thrown this in the trash after the first bite and gone elsewhere! I love food, but I really can't find much to like about this. I have eaten KC, Memphis, Texas and NC bbq and I can honestly say this was the worse I have ever put in my mouth. The service was good and quick, and the 2" piece of corn on the cob was tender and juicy, and the roll was fresh. That is why it has 2 stars. Aside from that I can't say anything good about the food. I got the combo with pork and ribs. With mouth watering I took a fork full of the pork after splashing it with the vinegar sauce (I think). I recoiled from it being so salty, and then the next bite was so bland I needed to add salt. There was absolutely NO flavor... But it wasnt dry! It seemed like it had been soaking in a watery grease. The potatoe salad was less than ordinary, typical of what you would buy at a grocery store. The slaw was weird... It had what seemed like sugar water and a splash of white vinegar in it. Now on to the ribs... They looked like they had been boiled and then set under a broiler for about a minute per side. NO seasoning at all and fairly greasy. If not for the 2 tablespoons of bbq sauce they included, they would have been uneatable. I am so disappointed, not that the food was bad, that I didn't throw it away and get something else. Now I have to wait til breakfast to get this taste out of my mouth! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Ordered a stuffed baked potato on Tuesday it was too dry. Ordered two baked potatoes Wednesday with extra sour cream (to keep them from being too dry). When I got home, the potatoes were completely drowning in what appeared to be a whole container of sour cream. It was disgusting. We had to dig out the overage of sour cream just to be able to eat the potato. Such a waste of money. read more

I went and ordered two pork sandwiches and literally they only give you one pickle per sandwich,.there's more slaw and pickle than there is meat on the sandwich, my three-year-old was literally crying because they only gave him one pickle on his sandwich and it was mostly bread , I proceeded to call the establishment and she told me yes it was only allowed one pickle per sandwich because the boss said so ! So in my opinion quality and quantity of food is so much better at Chief and snoogies down the road!!! My 3yr old and I are so upset right now they do not even care about the customers care concerns only the boss's.... WILL NOT RETURN TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT IN ANY CITY OR STATE!!!! We called both Decatur locations at 10:45, 45 minutes after they opened, and were told they were sold out. What a scam! Fantastic smokehouse barbeque on the cheapy cheaps at this drive through / walk up BBQ joint. I personally like much better than Gibsons even though they don't have Brisket. Also, this location has picnic benches to eat at so you can sit down. read more

I love the BBQ at Whits! I grew up getting this stuff and haven't been able to find a better BBQ restaurant (even after moving to much bigger cities that have tons of great BBQ restaurants). The flavor is excellent and there rarely is much fat in the meat. They also have excellent pulled chicken if you're looking for something besides BBQ. Every time I am in town, I have to get my BBQ fix. In the past I would always get the pulled pork sandwich or the chicken, both of these items are always good. The last time I was in town, I was going to a friends house and decided to pick up the normal Pulled pork and chicken, I also added an order of the ribs. Holy Cow! I had been missing out all of these years, the BBQ Ribs were some of the best ribs I have ever tasted. My mouth waters just thinking about them. Whitt's has the best barbecue in Decatur hands down. Unfortunately the service at the 6th avenue location could be better. We recently purchased a family pack #3 with extras. Total over $30. Unfortunately, the buns were STALE! How can you have barbecue sandwiches without buns? I immediately called the restaurant. They told me they would give me a credit. The next time I stopped by the manager gave me a pack of buns. My entire dinner was ruined because of the rock hard buns the first time and she only gave me a pack of buns. Whitts Barbecue is one of the things I miss most about my hometown. The pulled pork and slaw is the best I've had. We even asked about buying a franchise because there is nothing in Tuscaloosa that comes close.
