Half eaten caterpillar roll & 2 hand rolls (salmon + tuna)
    Irwan A.

Stumbled on this place as driving through ECR Sunday afternoon and the yelpers were spot on. Caterpillar Roll- different version as they used salmon instead on unagi so it gave it a new spin on salmon/avocado pairing. Hot Roll- this was spicy and woke you up as it was hamachi inside with spicy hamachi outside and topped with jalepeno and siracha so definitely lived up to the name. Tuna hand roll- fresh, crunchy and wish I ordered 6 more. Overall the rolls were well prepared as the fish to rice ratio was good and the rolls were tight and well presented. Service was fine so looking forward to another visit.

We ordered a few trays of sushi for a team dinner and enjoyed the variety , size and the taste was ok. It might not be the best sushi you had , but if you're looking for a kosher option than that is a fine option .

When i want sushi that is blessed i go here! The sushi is kosher here. We arrived Tuesday evening around 7:30pm. U can make a reservation which is probably recommended. But we walked in for 2 and seated right away. This place is pretty new and we would pass it all the time on the way to downtown Palo Alto. The interior is small and cozy, their AC was down but fans on and a pretty good ambiance. Ordered the seaweed and cucumber salad to start. And i got the Kaisen roll- chef's choice fish, egg yolk, etc and bf got hamachi kama. I enjoyed the seaweed salad and the really thin cucumbers in a marinade. The kaisen roll was phenomenal, i didnt even get a pic!! Had the freshest butteriest fish, toro? Tuna? Hamachi, and some cooked egg yolk but it's texture is play doh-y in the best way. It was unique and delicious. My bf couldnt help eating more when he usually leaves what i order to eat. The hamachi kama was the best i've had. Sooo crispy yet juicy and the sauce was amazing with fresh dashi in it. Goes well with some rice. Their miso has mushrooms and tofu and it very good too. Overall sooo good and has to be my new fav sushi place

I've seen this all the time, everytime I'm in Palo Alto. I've been meaning to do this for a very long time. Today is the day, I check-it-out. Today, I'm in the South Bay Area. I'm here at Holy Sushi this Monday evening. I like the name, Holy Sushi, it seems kinda Holy. I'm taking a Hamachi shot, and I got a Red Dragon Roll made out of Tuna, and Salmon Skin Roll again. The Hamachi shot is very creative, it was heavenly. And I can tell the Tuna in the Red Dragon Roll is high quality, it's very marbled and fresh. Although the Salmon Skin Roll is in a different style this time, it's just as good as the last time I had it. It was executed very well. I was thinking this was going to be a 4.0-4.4 stars, but I give this 4.3/4.4 stars out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed my meal.

pretty solid sushi, if a bit pricey. ordered takeout a few times and dined in once. quality is consistent and the fish is fresh and satisfying. not the most amazing sushi i've had for the price, but it satisfies the craving and ill be coming back favorite item: hot roll

Yeah good is good happy there is a restaurant in my own neighborhood I will be going there again!

Can't believe I haven't left a rave review of this place. The quality of the sashimi and fish is solid here. I have been eating here almost on a weekly basis and each meal is consistently yummy. My favorite dishes include the grilled hamachi Kama (which sometimes takes a little bit longer but worth the wait)! The rolls are also packed with goodies and the specialty dishes rival the ones traditional Japanese restaurants serve up. The only downside is that the hours are a bit different than standard so I have arrived, baffled that they are closed. Overall my grade is A+!!!

California roll, bluefin sashimi, lion's mane mushroom miso
    Aaron S.

My partner and I each enjoyed the lunch special of one roll, one sashimi, with our choice of miso soup or salad. I chose a California roll and bluefin sashimi; my date chose a salmon avocado "Alaska" roll and yellowtail sashimi. We shared an appetizer of tempura lion's mane mushroom. The fish all tasted nice and fresh. One waitress had the whole room, but it's a small restaurant, and she worked efficiently. She confidently translated unfamiliar Japanese words on the menu. The restaurant is brand new, and it was beautifully remodeled before it opened, in a clean, bright, modern style. Holy Sushi is strictly kosher. Dishes traditionally prepared with shrimp or crab are made instead with kosher species. Closed on Saturdays and on Jewish holidays.

The space is intimate, with only 8 counter seats, so you're served directly by chef Li. To my surprise, all of the seats were full on a Friday at lunch. I didn't want to drink too much at lunch, but they had a $29 sake flight of three 1.5 oz pours, which was just the right amount to pair with the sushi but still be able to go back to work after lunch! Pre sushi: 1. Pickled baby ginger: I love this stuff, and he was good about refilling it 2. Crab with Japanese citrus jelly and shiso: a generous amount of sweet, fresh crab 3. Ankimo: two pieces, served with wasabi 4. Signature octopus: massaged 1 hour and stewed 1 hour - very flavorful and tender 5. Steamed abalone: served over soba with abalone liver sauce 6. Seaweed shot 7. Chawanmushi with scallops and caviar Sushi: 1. Hokkaido scallop with yuzu and sea salt 2. Spanish mackerel 3. Akami: lean bluefin tuna 4. Kinmedai: golden eye snapper, torched 5. Isaki: 3 line grunt fish 6. Kelp cured black snapper, shiso leaf, yuzu 7. Chutoro 8. Saba: mackerel with kelp 9. Otoro: torched, topped with uni The scallop and kinmedai were the highlights for me. We also got one of the à la carte add ons: the hand chopped fatty tuna and uni hand roll. To finish: red miso soup At the end, you can watch the chef preparing the bento boxes, which was a good reminder for me to keep my eye out for the next available pickup. The fish was high quality, and the pieces were cut to the right size (I've been to way too many places with unappealingly large cuts). Each course was thoughtfully prepared, and pacing was consistent. For the quality and quantity of food, as well as the service and dining experience, this was a hot deal for $125 a person. We will definitely be coming back!

The service is nothing to write home about either. Their shop is small, and they staff only two waiters for the entire restaurant on a weekend afternoon. Those poor waiters were sprinting the entire time we were there. The food also took forever to make. Skewers had a 20-30-minute wait. The Sukiyaki hotpot entree took 40-50 minutes, and all they needed to do was slice the meat and arrange the veggies. We still had to cook the raw meat ourselves, mind you. I don't understand why it would take them 45 minutes to prep. Not being able to get a hold of the server to check on the status of our dish didn't help either, as they were busy zooming around because the restaurant was understaffed. Overall, there is a mismatch between the price they are charging and the overall experience we got. They either need to increase the portion or significantly increase the service to match the pricetag.
