Ramen Nagi is top tier for me. The line most days can be pretty long, and now that they've removed the outdoor dining option, it definitely doesn't move as fast as it used to. We came on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30 and waited well over an hour to be seated. It was a hot day, and there isn't much cover, so plan on standing in the sun. As for the food, it's always fresh and flavorful, and the noodles are cooked exactly how you order them. I prefer thin, firm noodles! Service is fast, and the restaurant can tend to get loud. Overall, a solid option for ramen whether you're nearby or want to make the trek for something that won't disappoint.
I am a big fan of the san jose location and always hesitated to go here out of fear that it would not be a good. finally got the chance to go and wow the Ramen is just as good! the broth is just how I like it and the noodles and karaage were cooked perfectly. the only diffrence I felt was the spice level here was more spicy than sj. in sj I get a 3 it's not that spicy but here a 3 had me sweating. still delicious just will be adjusting to a 2 for next time!

It also helped that they gave us the ordering form while we were in line so we didn't have to spend time figuring it out at the table. Once we were seated, the waiter took our forms and the food came out quickly after that. The noodles were chewy, the broth was deep and flavorful, and the toppings were on point. We were in and out of the restaurant very quickly and the staff made sure that we were well taken care of. Would definitely return to this location but probably when it isn't as busy.
Came here with friends on a random Tuesday during lunch time. No wait...yay! Love the fact that you can customize certain aspects of your dish. I have found that at times, ramen can be a little too salty for my taste, but the lighter salt option was just right for me. A repeat option for sure for me!
Worth the hype and the wait. I got the spicy red king and it was ze perfect amount of spice for me. broth was mega flavorful and you know how important broth is for ramen. the noodles were bouncy and chewy. do try to get here early tho cuz the line can get long, esp on the weekends -1 star because their chicken was coated in some sweet sauce and so that was slightly off putting. def think it would've been better if it was a savory dish instead
Came by on a Thursday evening and the place was packed by 6pm. Street parking can be difficult but they do have several parking lots nearby. They have two lines out front so that patrons do not impede the sidewalk foot traffic and an employee provides a menu and marker to make your selections. They also have a menu with photos and they will ask if you need assistance. The line moved pretty fast and my friend and I ate at the bar and I enjoyed watching the kitchen staff work their magic. Once seated, a staff member takes your paper menu with your selections and your food and drinks are brought out fairly quickly. I opted for the red king and the broth was flavorful, egg was perfectly cooked, and the thin noodles were perfection!! I love the ability to select thin noodles, as that is my preference, and adding extra veggies or other sides was so easy. Staff were all friendly and worked quickly. The air conditioning inside kept us nice and cool and the restaurant was clean. Seating was a bit tight and did now allow for much room or personal space at the bar so I took off a star for that.
Truth? I've always felt that ramen is really overrated. To me, it has always been nothing more than glorified noodle soup. Noodle soup that doesn't gain merit just because you throw in an egg & some other protein. But then, I started dating a man who is a total ramen head... I got schooled right quick. It's all about 2 things, the broth & the noodles. Consistency, flavor, freshness & tooth. You don't have to be from Italy to understand that your noodles should never be overcooked. I listen, but I take it all in w/ a grain of salt. After all, I've had the noodle soup stance for a heck of a long time. I don't expect it's something I'm going to easily shed the way I do my camel coats when springtime hits. So, of course he tells me about this place. And of course, I don't wait in lines. But...love makes you do crazy things, right? So here we are. To avoid the lines (as much as that's even possible), I thought we should do Sunday lunch. The rationale being that so many folks do brunch on Sundays, so maybe it'll be less busy. I know; it seemed like a good idea at the time. Actually, from getting in line to sitting at a table was only just shy of 40 minutes; I'd read folks have had to wait upwards of 2 hours before so not too bad. Chicken karaage & gyoza to start. I love pesto (speaking of Italy), so the green king that has basil & parmesan was calling my name. Original king for my man. To say that our starters came lickety split would be an understatement. Shazam! They arrived. The chicken was just delicious. It's not true that you can't screw up fried chicken. So not true! Flavorful, not greasy, tender inside, crispy outside. Not overcooked. So finger licking good! I'm pretty picky about gyoza. The exterior has to have that perfect balance of crisp & chewy but never be gummy, & the interior mustn't be mushy. And please...no mystery meat. The gyoza here checked all the boxes. We barely touched them tho so as not to ruin our appetites for the impending ramen. The ramen arrived looking & smelling fantastic. I chose pork for my protein & the thin noodles. I thought because I ordered the thin noodles, they might not be firm enough, but they were absolutely perfect. Then, I did something unprecedented. I ate the whole bowl. I've never done that w/ ramen before. Never. Ok, I did give almost all of the pork to my man, because oddly, I wasn't in a meat mood. But I wanted to try it for the first time w/ the pork. Next time I'll go the vegetarian route. On the way out, the lad who was the cashier asked how everything was. I told him it was the best ramen I've ever had. He smiled from ear to ear. Note: the gyoza was fantastic even reheated the next day. 5 stars
This place never disappoints to be honest. Very nice place to come if you are in town or in need of some good Ramen. It was on a rainy evening on a Sunday and there was atleast 15 people waiting in line but it goes by fast thankfully. The staff were very generous and so nice. One staff member provided me an umbrella which was beyond customer friendly of him when waiting in line. We were sat and was greeted very kindly by another staff member who recommended the Green King. When in doubt always select Chef Recommendation on the selection for your Ramen. You cant go wrong! Definitely will be back again!
Honestly, I think the ramen here is a bit overhyped. The broth was a bit too oily and not flavorful enough for my liking, and the noodles were mediocre tasting. I did appreciate the amount of meat and other items that were given, which a lot of other popular ramen shops don't do. The food comes out quite fast but there can be a wait so definitely go early if you can. 4.2/5
Long line, but it moves pretty quickly. For non-vegetarians, the menu has so many more options that it's definitely worth the wait - for vegetarian ramen, though, I'd probably skip the line. I got the Veggie King Ramen, which I liked, but the hashbrowns are deep fried, making them a little less healthy. They also come inside the soup, so they get soggy quickly - I'd prefer having them on the side so they stay crunchy and you can dip as you go. If I'm having something fried, I'd rather keep that crunch!
Fantastic ramen, full of rich flavor. Everything here is custom ordered - the type of noodle, how well cooked, garlic levels, spice levels, everything! The black pepper bean sprouts side dish are a great touch. The chicken karage was crispy and delicious. Be prepared for a long line, but it moves fast. Service is busy but efficient. read more

We came for lunch as a party of 4 on a Saturday around 12 pm and there was a long line looping outside. After waiting a little, some staff gave us the papers to fill out to customize our ramen selecting things from soup base, toppings and flavor amounts. Our ramen came out pretty quickly after seating and we waited around 30 minutes in line. Original King - I chose everything on the paper that was pretty original from the original kind base to all of the chef recommendations besides adding the pork belly. It was pretty sweet from the garlic and I enjoyed the soft pork belly. Besides that, the soup was savory and too salty for me which made everything feel very one note? Nothing stood out to me with the overpoweredness of the saltiness and I couldn't taste much of the tonkotsu soup base. The black king soup base that one of the others got had a good flavor with a balance of sweetness and smokiness that the original one didn't have. Not sure I'd come again but I would choose lower variation amounts next time. read more
I'm not a big ramen fan, but my partner is a huge Japanese ramen enthusiast, and Ramen Nagi is his favorite ramen spot. That's why we end up coming here fairly often. Because the menu doesn't offer many side options, I usually order the chicken, which has always been consistently good and is something I would definitely recommend. As for the ramen, I've given it a few tries. On a previous visit, I ordered the Black King with the highest spice level and oil level set to 1. Surprisingly, I didn't find it spicy at all, and it still felt too oily for my taste. This visit, I decided to try the vegetarian ramen instead. I enjoyed the basil aroma, and the cheese added a nice flavor to the broth. However, even with the oil level set to 1, I still found it much too oily. That said, I know my opinion may be influenced by the fact that I'm generally not a fan of Japanese ramen. While the flavors were enjoyable, the richness and oiliness just aren't for me. I also don't really understand the long wait times, though it's obvious that many people love this place. read more

Quick take: Order the thick noodles! The line looks intimidating but it actually moves pretty fast. The noise level is probably equivalent to the noise level of a Chinese restaurant (loud). I always order the Original King! Love the firm thick noodles. read more
I can confidently say this is my current favorite ramen spot in the Bay Area! Shoutout to our host David for being super accommodating, patient, and sharing with us the history of Ramen Nagi. There is decent seating, but when I went there was a line before opening and a bigger line at rush hour lunch. I recommend either going early or going off-hours so you don't have to wait too long! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere of the restaurant feels like you're at a ramen shop and it's super clean. What I really like about this place is that you can custom your ramen, from thin or thick noodles to broth thickness, salt and garlic strength and more. You can also do add-ons as well. One thing I want to add is they definitely don't skimp out on the meat, which a lot of shops do. 1. Original King - Tonkotsu: Super flavorful, perfect thickness, and you can tell it's been cooked for a long time. The thick noodles goes so perfectly with it, and I love how the meat is super fatty. 2. Red King - Spicy: My boyfriend got this and he really enjoyed it! It was spicy and had good flavor. 3. Pan-fried Gyoza: this is a MUST! Apparently it's extremely popular and highly recommended (which I can see why). It's super crispy and the ponzu sauce they made is unique, but works so well with the gyoza. 4. Karaage Chicken: the pieces are definitely bigger than usual and it has a good crunch to it! Definitely not dry and very juicy. Overall, this place is dope and I would recommend giving this place a shot! read more
I stopped by with a friend for dinner at 6pm on a Wednesday night. The line was fairly long, but we only waited for about 25 minutes before we were seated inside. The food came out within 5 minutes of sitting down and we were done and out within 45 minutes of dining. I haven't been here before but my friend talked about this place a lot so figured I'd give it a try. While waiting in line, they give you a menu that lets you choose how you want your ramen. Their menu is pretty simple and straight forward. The guy explained the menu a bit and told me which one people tend to get on their first try. He also told us some starter options they had for the night that wasn't written on the paper but that you could let your server know if you wanted to add it on. I opted for the original king ($16.50), light on the salt, normal for oil and garlic. I choose the pork belly option with green onions and normal thin noodles. I added an egg ($2.75 extra) and extra tree mushrooms (extra $2.50) on the side. I didn't know the bowl of ramen came with tree mushrooms already because the paper that gives you to decide what you want to order didn't mention it as it only said green onion or cabbage. However, the laminated photo did show the mushrooms in the bowl. For $2.50 tho, I was pretty satisfied with the big bowl they give you on the side. My friend also ordered extra green onions ($2.25) on the side. The ramen itself was tasty, the broth was VERY rich. I drank a lot of water that night after we had dinner. I should have opted for none or light for the oil because normal ended up being very oily. The normal garlic you couldn't really taste so if you wanted it more pungent, I'd go for heavy. The pork belly was tender and pretty much melted in your mouth as you bite into it. I opted for 4/10 spice and this was very mid. We were told 3-5 was consider " Sriracha" spice level. I could have definitely gone up on the spicy ladder but I wanted to be safe because I actually can't tolerate too much spice. We also ordered the starters, which were Karaage Chicken ($8.50) and Gyoza ($7.50). The karaage was so crispy and they gave us a good about of pieces. They had a good seasoning on top and I'd definitely get this again. As for the gyoza, it was good but not as memorable. They were mini gyozas and it came looking like a fried pancake. PS, they also have bean sprouts on the side where the sauces are if you want. Overall, quick service and good ramen. A small hole in a wall like place. Don't let the line discourage you from trying them out. The line moves quickly and the food comes out even faster. read more

We've been wanting to come back for almost a year, and with the rainy weather, it felt like the perfect time. My wife ordered the Veggie King with hash browns on the side, delicious as always. I went with the Red King using the chef's recommendations. I do wish I had chosen the thick, normal noodles since I prefer those, but overall it was still very good. The spice level 1 was manageable; next time I might try spicy level 2. There was a short wait outside, but the line moves fairly quickly. The restaurant was clean and welcoming inside. Pretty solid. There is a nagi near me and honestly they are really consistent. There was a server who had atone with my friend because he was in the way, but it was not my friends fault since they packed us in way too deep. The food was still pretty yummy the red king is my go to with 10 spice. Definitely made me feel strong but my friend ordered the black king and the flavors hit pretty nicely too. The squid ink usually makes me think metallic but it was more like chow mein. The dumplings were mid but the sauce that came with them was so good i would order the sauce if i could. read more

Second time here after 5-6 years and the wait was significantly shorter this time on a weekend lunch hour. There were about 30 people in front of us when we got there and we were able to get seated (table for two) within 20-30mins, which was a surprise! The ramen was delicious but on the saltier and fattier side even with light salt and oil. The chicken karage was a miss this time - over fried and sitting in a pool of oil. Would come back again if the wait is similar but would skip the karage. read more

The best Ramen I've ever had. This spot beats every place in Little Tokyo in LA and the most notable ramen spots in both SF and NYC. I've tried them all and this place is WAYYYY BETTER. My go to is the Red King which is on the spicy side but they have a number of interesting choices that include squid ink based broth or an italian bowl with pesto and cheese. Not to worry they have an original traditional bowl for the purists. They also have a veggie friendly option for the tree huggers in the crowd. Multiple locations in the Bay Area but would recommend Palo Alto as I think the food tends to be better and more consistent. They also have a location on the west side in LA which I haven't visited yet. Disclaimer you'll wait an hourish on average to get in here so allow yourself some time if you plan on giving this place a try. Well worth the wait. Enjoy! read more

BEWARE OF THE WAIT IF YOU ARE TRYING TO COME DURING YOUR WORK LUNCH BREAK other than that, the ramen is pretty solid. i like to get red king with their normal noodles. its a flavorbomb and on the thicker and richer side of tonkatsu, if youre into that. sadly everytime i come, even if its 30 min before closing i will have to wait in line. i always need to share this bowl with someone because i will get way too full and bloat like a pufferfish if i finish 1 bowl in a sitting. read more
Ramen Nagi is a Japanese ramen chain restaurant with locations throughout Japan, Singapore, China, Taiwan, and Philippines. They also have locations throughout California including this one in Palo Alto. It's located minutes from Stanford University. Like others have mentioned, there can be a long line even before they open. We arrived 10 minutes before opening and there was already a long line formed. While we waited we were given a paper where we filled out our orders, customizing our ramen from the richness of the oil to the garlic level to the firmness in the noodles to any additional toppings. It was pretty much like how it's done at the Ichiran chain if you've ever been! We waited about 30 minutes before we were seated but the food came out quickly because we had already filled out our papers. I ordered the red king ($17.95) which is their spicy ramen. I only ordered the normal spice but it already had a decent spice level. I liked the texture of the noodles and I especially liked the soft and tender chashu. We also ordered the fried chicken to share which was really crispy. The food was good but I'm not sure if I would want to wait an hour or more. When we left the line had gotten even longer and I'm sure the wait would be close to that amount of time (or more). It's good ramen but I'd recommend coming really early or during an off time. read more
Wow, again! If you're a parent, this review is for you. I took my four year old here and she absolutely loved it. She actually asked me mid bite, "mom, can we come here every night?" If you have a picky kiddie, then this is your solution. Mine isn't too picky, but you can't go wrong with Ramen Nagi! It's always a hit with every taste bud. My only advice: prepare and know what you like. Upon arrival, you're greeted with a crazy 50 person-deep-wait. They open at 11am and close at 2:30pm. Then they open back again at 5:30 which means it would be your best shot, to show up a little before 5:30 to be seated right away. We got there at 5:45 and waiting around 50 minutes. My four year old took a walk while someone waiting in line. While in line, there is an employee walking the line and checking in with each party. They want to know your group size and if you need any accommodations like toddler seats. We got the red king ramen and two standard kings. We got both thick and thin noodles. They're both so good. If you want more noodle to bite into, get the thick. The thin are so delicious and satisfying. You can't go wrong. I ALWAYS add an egg (Tamago). ADD THE EGG (it's listed as an extra topping). It's such a yummy addition. I always get the sliced pork (Chashu). It's better than the pork belly (Kakuni). (My profile, my opinion). In line, they ask if you want to order any appetizers and in the past, we have, but we get too full. We focused on our three ramens. My daughter finished her entire standard bowl of ramen. She loved it so much. They have some fun seasonings on the table for you to enjoy before your ramen comes out 6 minutes after you sit!! It's so fast! We were sat down at 5:55 and out by 6:40. They bring you the bill and tell you to pay at the register in the front. If I could go back to think place once a week, I would. There is always a line for dinner time! Been going to this place for a couple years now and it's always been great! The service is quick and the food is always a HIT! When you arrive, they do provide you with a paper so you can order your bowl and so forth. This spot is great to go by yourself, another person or group of friends, I highly recommend. read more
Is it worth the wait? I kept thinking this while standing in the longest line for ramen. It was around 45 min wait at 5:07 pm on Saturday night. They give you a ramen menu and marker to customize your selection. The original ramen was good with deep, rich umami flavor. I would highly recommend getting light on the sodium as the broth was already salty. Kaarage was excellent. It has a sweet sauce that is delicious. Additionally, the gyoza was really crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. That was really a must order. Our friends got the chef's choice and black ramen. The friends mentioned that it wasn't really great and the chef's recommendation was salty. Restrooms were clean. Parking can be difficult in Downtown PA, especially during meal times. Overall, decent but really not worth the wait. read more
Really one of the top ramen in the Bay! There were a good amount of people in line 20 minutes before opening on a Friday (1/2), but the restaurant can seat quite a few people in the first round. Ordering is very easy through the piece of paper they give you in line. Light salt, 2 spice level, and firm thick noodles is perfect for me on an original king. Don't forget the karaage - super crispy, almost like Wingstop or San Tung. I also enjoy how there is some sort of sesame bean sprout at the table that you can enjoy while waiting for your food, or even eating it as a side veggie when you do get your ramen. Came here with friends who live in the area, and it didn't disappoint! This restaurant is crazy efficient. There's a long line but it moves decently fast. Each person gets a paper menu and you use a provided marker to select different options to customize your ramen. The menu is limited but there's beauty in how efficient the process is. You select different options like thin or thick noodles, spice level, but you also get to pick the level of salt and garlic and oil you want which I've never seen at another ramen shop. They also gave my pregnant friend a chair to sit on when we got inside (there were still two parties ahead of us at the time) which was so kind. At each table, I appreciate that they have a tissue box (for runny noses) and marinated bean sprouts (hadn't seen that before). When you finish eating, you pay at the front. Hadn't been here in forever so wanted to come back again! The line moves much faster than you think, so even if there's a long line outside, you hopefully won't have to wait long. Our party of 2 only waited 15 minutes on a Monday at noon. By the time you figure it what you want to order, you're basically at the front of the line anyways. I got the Original King with all recommended settings except I got cabbage, firm noodles, and spice level 2. We sat at the bar in the back, which was nice because you got to see the ramen get made. It was busy but not too noisy, and the staff were attentive and fast. In terms of the food, the noodles were perfect and the chashu was so tender! I could have done with a lot more spice -- if you're a spice fan, 2 is barely a tickle of spice. I would try at least a 6 next time. The broth was rich and hearty, and I loved the thin noodles a lot. I appreciated the seasoned bean sprouts they had at each table along with the water others as well. If you can catch it at an off time, worth it for sure! read more

Ramen nagi is still #1 in my book. On a solid level. Since the first time I tried them. Red King reigns supreme. Even over the special bowls I've tried. Chicken karaage hasn't ever let me down either- crispy outside and juicy inside. Service is pretty quick. The servers are all busy so you have to make your self seen to get something. It's super busy, loud, and well worth the wait. I was there about 4:45pm on Saturday and got into the first seating. read more
This place has excellent Ramen. We went to Japan a few years ago and it was just as good. They have a lot of servers and staff running around. We constantly had people helping us coming by constantly. The place is very clean and looks like restaurants in Japan. The only knock we had is it's extremely hot waiting to get in. They need to get a cover for those who wait. They only have 2 bathrooms. 1 for men and I had to wait a while to use it. No one was using the women's bathroom. I literally have not eaten at this place in over 5 years. I was surprised it's still very well-loved and constantly has a line out the door....but I was reminded why. Ramen Nagi is still one of the best ramen places in the Bay. The tonkotsu broth is so rich and flavorful and thick (?)....it's just so good. I love being able to customize your bowl and having all the toppings/sides at the table. I also appreciate how simple the menu is (that's how you know the food is good). Service is great at this location, and it's nicely designed and surprisingly spacious inside! They are super quick and efficient at seating and feeding people so we didn't wait as long as I thought we would. ONLY complaint is the price haha. I feel like I could've gotten a bit more noodles. And an egg for $2+ is sad....but it's essential to a good bowl of ramen haha. Either way I'll be back again. read more

Just disappointed in the service at this location. Been to Santa Anita mall location in Arcadia, been to valley fair mall, all awesome service but Employees here at Palo Alto just seemed like they didn't want to be there but one person was actually rude AF to our face when we asked for a bowl and fork. Just looked at me and gave me the dirtiest look. You don't have to be happy and small all the time but dammm Nobody smiles at this location so not a great vibe for being a Ramen Nagi. The pic of him is attached to my review. Food was excellent as always just like all the other locations. Those bean sprouts on the table are the best tasting bean sprouts in the world. Ramen was perfect, meat was so tender. Food is A+++ Most definitely won't be returning to the Palo Alto location, sad I need to eat somewhere else around here. And that was completely avoidable. This place always has a line apparently, and the line was pretty short as we passed by so we had to try it. We got the red king and black king, and the ramen is pretty flavourful and filling. I found the black king pretty cool because I don't get to try squid ink broth that often. And this place also had good customizations for the ramen, such as noodle firmness, thickness, meat, richness, etc, The karaage was really good too, crunchy, juicy, with a nice honey coat. The place is really popular so the ambiance was quite busy, but that's fine. We had no issues with the servers, they seemed pretty efficient and proficient. Been wanting to try this place since my brother's wife really likes this place. Came here around 1130am on Tuesday and there were about 15 people in front of us in line. The line moved fairly quick and we were seated in about 15 mins. The service was good and the ramen was better! We ordered: - original king: 5/5, noodles were chewy and broth was tasty - red king: 5/5, ordered 3/10 spicy and friends said it was really good. - pork gyoza: 4/5, it was ok, kinda small - chicken karaage: 5/5, very juicy and flavorful, we all really liked it Approved and will definitely come back in future! read more
So many people had recommended this place to me that I just had to try it. I went with the veggie king, and I loved that almost everything is customizable, including the salt, oil, garlic, and toppings. The hash browns were a standout for me. It was my first time having them in ramen, and they were amazingly crunchy. I don't know why this isn't a more popular ramen topping! We went on a Friday evening around 6:30 pm, and the line was huge, about an hour long. We were able to order while in line, and the food came quickly once we got inside. Overall, we had a good experience here. The food was tasty and well-prepared -- everything we ordered was satisfying and flavorful. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, so it can feel a bit tight, especially during busy hours. Customer service was pretty good overall, and the staff was polite. However, some of the staff members don't speak much English, which made communication a little difficult at times. Yes, you can get seated and reasonably finish eating after close.

No and to answer your second question, they do not offer fish ramen.

Not anymore. They did during the pandemic, but they have since been removed. All indoor now, but the wait is still long enough so you can still enjoy the outdoors. Lol

Yes they do have a veggie broth option!
Can I bring my dog there?
I believe dogs are not allowed at this restaurant. It's a small dining space and only has indoor seating. They move tables around to accomodate parties/waiting line.

I think they have similar seating capacity and probably the same amount of wait time. The only difference is, you'll be waiting outdoors if you decide to visit the Palo Alto branch.
