I ordered online takeout tonight after having a pleasant experience ordering in person takeout from them for lunch once on a weekday a couple months back. Their prices are super reasonable, but I now realize why. The quality of the fish in my rolls was subpar. The hamachi rolls had pieces of hamachi smushed together. I am used to ordering hamachi rolls that have one large chunk of fish with some green onions wrapped in rice, then wrapped in seaweed. I really did not enjoy my sushi rolls tonight. I did like their seaweed salad and miso soup. The inari nigiri was good too. Maguro nigiri was okay. The sushi ginger they have is good - I ordered extra for 50 cents. I wish the fish was more comparable to the first time I had it. Now I'm not sure if I would order again. They have a whole setup for to go orders. Small indoor seating area. I enjoy Sushi House and am a regular here and order several times a month, however my last takeout order has really put me off from ever ordering from here again. My first bite of the Spider Roll contained something very tough and chewy - almost like a sponge. The thought of eating sponge remnants is absolutely disgusting with all of the bacteria. Remains one of my favorite local Japanese restaurants in the peninsula area. Plenty of outdoor seats and indoor also. It is located right next to the Palmetto superfoods (for acai bowls that are super good but pricey), Roost and Roast restaurant and Oren's Hummus. There are now FOUR FANTASTIC RESTAURANTS all located in the back corner of Town and Country Village shopping center! One thing that is rea great about Sushi House is they can do large orders for events--we have ordered from here, Noelani's in San Carlos and Takahashi Market in San Mateo. Love this place. It's not so nice to sit in -- they could do a little bit to make it less barren, cold, and uncomfortable -- but the food is great and the staff is lovely. I like the bento boxes. I won't say which ones because I don't want them to run out. Sushi is fresh and serviceable, it's quite Japanese other than not giving pickles with meals, and we'll go again and again. My wife ordered sushi house for dinner last night. One of the food she ordered was assorted tempura appetizer with 4 pieces of shrimps and vegetables. When I opened the box, it was not assorted tempura but vegetables tempura appetizer. My wife called sushi house to tell them they gave us the wrong order, they said they would refund us the money the next day. So next day, someone from sushi house called me saying they would refund us $2 for the price difference. I told them we wanted 4 shrimps not all vegetables and we didn't even eat half of the order but they still insisted to charge us for the food we didn't order. Both times featured good service, though I would say the food is not anything special, especially considering the price. wow, What a total disappointment! Have been coming here for 20 plus years and tonight was the worst quality and quantity we have ever seen!!! We ordered a sakura roll which is a shrimp tempura with crab and tobiko on top and a shrimp tempura roll. First of all the TINY amount of crab (less than a tablespoon worth) and the size of the 2 rolls were ridiculously small! For 17.00 the additional crab was DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT! We have been coming here for years, but this was our last time coming here. SAD to see how awful it has become! read more

The sushi is always very good and there are lots of options for bento boxes. My wife's favorite is their chicken salad. Hint: a small is more than adequate for an average appetite. There is plenty of shredded chicken and the sesame dressing is light and fresh. I always order the Kaki (oysters) fry bento and even with my big appetite, I walk away quite satisfied. For $16.95 it comes with miso soup, a nice crisp salad with cucumbers and a slice of tomato, two slices of California rolls and a generous portion of rice. In addition to their chicken karaage which is excellent as well, we've ordered the large party platter of sushi which is always devoured by our guests. Sushi house is one of the best spots to eat at Town and Country in my opinion. I came here very frequently during highschool and have continued to come often after. My classic order is the teriyaki chicken bowl. I recently went here and got it, I was happy with the taste per usual, but I was astounded at the price rise in the Paly Meal. When I attended it was $7.50 for a chicken bowl with green onions and sauce, now it's a whopping $11.50. The service here is actually amazing, everyone is super friendly. I wouldn't say that there's too much to write home about regarding the atmosphere, it's a little small, but has both outdoor and indoor seating options. read more

2.5/5 for food, +.5 for beloved local institution. TLDR, if you like sushi and have eaten at a range of sushi spots, Sushi House will feel solidly sub par. If you grew up in Palo Alto coming here for family dinner etc, your nostalgia and desire to support a long-running establishment may coat over some of the mediocre elements of the food here. The folks who work here are very nice and this spot is family friendly. The menu offerings are a good selection of sushi standards. Taste wise, the ingredients here seem ...not bad, but not great, and everything seemed sweetened to compensate. The mushrooms in the futomaki taste like candy. The sushi rice is soggy and sweet. Other ingredients seemed bland for sushi. The fish didn't taste "off" but rather was flavorless and lacked the springiness of higher quality fish - it's like it was defrosted poorly and now the texture is off. Nothing was objectively bad, but nothing tasted very satisfying either. I'd put it above supermarket sushi and on par with "decent airport sushi". Overall, the dishes look fine but the flavors miss the nuance that the "top 50%" of sushi spots tend to have. There are so many good-to-great sushi restaurants within a short drive of here, I'm not sure what niche a "meh" sushi spot fills (except for "Palo Alto nostalgia" and "restaurant with lots of high chairs"). Longtime locals and Paly high schoolers on lunch break love this spot. Those searching for satisfying sushi flavor should probably skip it. read more

So Sushi House is ideal for meals on the go and I think that's what they are targeting for the time being. Hamachi Collar This is the highlight - big plump portions of soft white hunger-quieting fish. The outside is crispy and flaky and the meat just slides of the soft bones and cartilage. Highly recommend! Sashimi Hamachi and maguro cuts were in my opinion larger than average. A little sinewy but nonetheless very high quality. Chicken Karaage Below average - batter is not crispy and the chicken tastes like it was warmed up in a microwave. You can tell it was produced because all the pieces are the same size. Would not order again. Spicy Hamachi Roll Not bad - we'll decorated, not a fan of spicy rolls but it was okay. We also ordered Kaki fried oysters but they never were delivered. My boyfriend and I stopped here for takeout recently and had a positive experience overall. This was my first time at Sushi House, but my boyfriend frequents this place very often and loves it every time. We ordered online and the food was ready a few minutes after we arrived at the restaurant. I got their chicken karaage bento box, which was a huge portion and came with salad, miso soup, rice, and two pieces of California roll. As I don't eat a ton for every meal, I had enough for leftovers the following day! In terms of the food itself, it was good but not anything mind-blowing or spectacular in my opinion. Some pieces of the chicken karaage were a bit tough and I wish it was a bit more crispy though that may have been because we took the food home to eat. The miso soup and salad were very standard fare (typical of what you would get at any Japanese restaurant). All in all, definitely a good local Japanese place with prices that aren't crazy for Palo Alto; I would want to come back and perhaps try their sushi in the future! read more

For dinner I ordered a salmon hand roll, unagi hand roll, and fresh salmon roll via Door Dash. My order came in a large brown paper bag and I appreciated that they gave a generous amount of napkins and chopsticks in a separate plastic bag as well. This place is a bit expensive $20+ for bento but they do give you a fair amount of food which is good. I got the short ribs and thought it was fine, albeit a tiny bit too salty. Rice was plentiful and I liked the California rolls. Salad dressing for the salad was really good (Oily but I like it that way!). They also gave me a side of fried tofu. I love this place this is my go to place when I go to. My favorite dish there is the salmon Bento teriyaki with miso so on the side. I also love the customer service that they provide and the dining area outside is very comfortable and shaded. It is also close to roost and roast (next door) if you want some Thai tea! They have the old Japanese soft drink that has a glass ball that you pop into the drink here too! It makes me feel very nostalgic! I used to drink those when I was young with my cousins. Since I work nearby I like to call ahead and pick up my order and 15 minutes I just walk over and it's ready for me!
