Hometown Coffee Roasters makes excellent drinks. I ordered the Hangover (iced sparkling Americano) and a whole milk matcha latte with honey, and both were delicious. The quality of the coffee and matcha really stands out. Service was friendly and professional. The drinks did take a little longer than expected, but that clearly comes with the care they put into each cup -- these are true craft coffees, complete with beautiful latte art. The prices are on the higher side, but you can tell you're paying for quality and attention to detail. The ambiance is fine, though for me it feels more like a grab-and-go coffee spot than somewhere I'd settle in for a while. read more

I have a soft spot for this cafe. Was a go to for study sessions/applications back when I was a student. I come here and there now and staff is still friendly as always. They have a good amount of seating indoors with wifi. Homey (like the name), non pretentious cafe. They were known for their Birthday Cake Latte back in the day. I've had Home Coffee Roasters bookmarked for a while, so I was glad that I finally had the chance to try them since we were heading north on the SR 1. We made the drive up in the morning and the coffee shop was perfectly situated on the route. They have some parking spots right in front of the shop and luckily there was an opening spot. Still my favorite cafe in the city, I wish there was one in my neighborhood. The lighting in here is perfectly dim where you can really lock in and do work and their lattes are consistently delicious! Monday, 11am Second visit. It's confirmed, Home Coffee Roasters is still in my top 10 of Avocado Toast purveyors. Oh my, 4 choices. Again I went for the Bra-Vo, but added fried egg & bacon crumbles on the side. I find the large amount of bacon overwhelms the avocado, & on the side allows me to garnish at will. The bacon is seriously delicious, just the right amount of chewiness. The sourdough bread actually holds up to the generous avocado mash, be still my heart, bread actually toasted! For some reason this is an issue in San Francisco. If I wanted to be more high maintenance I'd add the cherry tomatoes & red pepper flakes from the Let's Avocuddle. Prices are reasonable for the big city, adding bacon is only $2. I've paid up to $7 elsewhere. Same goes for the $2 fried egg. BTW, there's an order screen I didn't notice, but the friendly woman at the counter didn't seem to mind. No attitude here. For coffee aficionados know that they serve Verve, which is a big deal. I saw a Verve cafe in Tokyo. Support your neighborhood cafe, & note to laptop encampment, read the room, order some food, open up a table if the place is full. Laptop next to me was a clueless couple filling up last table with their backpacks, turning back a nice family. Even Starbucks has enacted a new policy: eat something, then leave. Located in one corner of the Outer Sunset area, there is limited paid parking in front of their shop. I went on a Friday morning and had no trouble getting parking. When I arrived at this cafe, I noticed its cozy exterior that looks like an actual home. The people who worked here are very friendly. You can order on the counter or on the machine (if you are people-shy!). There's only a few outlets along the bench seating area. A lot of people use this space to study and do work. I ordered a matcha latte, a "Let's Avo Cuddle," and a Ham + Gruyère Croissant. The matcha latte was made to perfection. The bitter matcha was smooth to my liking. I like how this shop doesn't use a lot of disposable items and you can eat on the site. I didn't like the Ham + Gruyère Croissant. It had too much bread and I didn't really taste the ham. The Let's Avo Cuddle was alright. I think if the sourdough bread was more toasted, it would be perfect. Right now, it's really fluffy. This coffee shop is very clean and chill. For me, good of you want flavored milk. Roasts are weak and cappuccinos are warm and VERY milky - even if they were a latte. Pastries tried include a Ginger Pull Apart - good crusty outer skin but very dense and cold (though warmed twice) inside and gingery enough. C Banana Bread - tall, moist, good flavor. A Churro Mochi Muffin - a bit rubbery and cold. Flavor ok. C Ambiance is open, sterile, pleasantly lit though industrial. There is plenty of seating and unobtrusive music. B Service is variable - mostly friendly enough and not too interactive. It's not the kind of staff you remember. One of the best coffee spots in the city. Luckily there are multiple locations and this is the one conveniently located near 19th Ave and Noriega in the Outer Sunset. I personally enjoy the matcha lattes ($6.50) here, and the latte art is alwaysssss so impressive. The baristas are sweet and really friendly when they take my order. They have so many other fun drinks. I've tried their birthday latte and their Cookie Monster latte but a long, long time ago. As I get older I realize I just want my usuals! If you are looking for a snack, I love their pastries. Looks like they get mochi muffins from third culture. Toast is always good too but can be pricy. The indoor is perfect for studying or chatting with a friend. It's clean and modern, plenty of tables too. They used to have a table where it basically said "no devices, be social" but today I didn't see it. Ordering was fairly quick on the self-service kiosk, and we had our drinks in hand within five minutes. Its not quite the largest space, but it was a quiet place to work / study / chat with friends. I had an iced latte, and those beans were bold and full of flavor! I enjoyed, too, the perfect layers. My friend had a hot drink, but what's cool is not only the calm atmosphere but also the latte art and light tough. Cookie monster latte has a good level of sweetness with a slight acidic and bitter finish. The use of cereals as a topping was cute, although flavor wise, I would have much preferred actual cookies. Matcha latte could've been better. Even with the use of oat milk, it was very milk forward, making it difficult to taste any matcha. While the flavor itself was fine, it missed the key point of being a matcha latte. Service - 4/5. Quick and friendly service. You can order from either the kiosk or from the counter. Value - 4/5. Their creative lattes are mostly in the $7-7.50 range and the matcha latte was $6.50 with oat milk substitution being $1. This is definitely on the pricier side, even for the area.
