My boyfriend and I rent a town home that is fairly old. We'd been having TONS of trouble with our dryer not drying our clothes. After several technicians came to check our dryer and no change someone finally suggested that we have our dryer air vent checked. We tried contacting three different heating and cooling companies and no one called us back. Once we tried Home Heating and Cooling we received a super fast response. Ric was at our house chcking the vent within 30 minutes of our original call. Our vent was cleaning the next morning at 7:30 am. Ric did a number of things for us including cleaning our ducts, pressure testing them, putting in a medical grade filter, and most recently installing a duct free split system in our master bedroom. I'm very impressed with the quality of their work. They showed up on time, cleaned up nicely after they were done, and everything worked. John and Matt who worked on the last project were particularly meticulous. They came on a Monday to do a "seal test" which took an hour. They then informed me that they didn't have all of the equipment needed to do the duct cleaning and that they would need to return another day. I am informed that they will include a new filter system in the furnace at no charge for my inconvenience. The next Friday they arrive early as arranged (7:50 am) and they get to work. Final departure happens at 1:10 pm. Is it supposed to take five hours? All was done and done well, we had dog food (and much else) in the duct work from a previous owner, and that has all been cleaned up. The filter was installed as promised... how ever, I am a little worried that replacements for this 'specialized' filter may be hard to find and need one of their technicians to replace it instead of just doing it myself. When our home was originally built the ventilation system for the dryer was placed in an area that was not accessible to be maintained. The end of the vent was placed way over on the other side of the house, under the backyard deck. Ric came out and did and assessment of the vent and determined it needed to be rerouted and placed in an area where it could be maintained properly. Ric could see that the vent was clogged and that no air was coming out. I was having to run my dryer 2 & 3 times just to get a load dry. This was costing me time and lots of money towards the electric bill, YIKES! Ric sent a technician out the next day our vent was rerouted and repaired. His technician was on time and professional and did not leave a spot of mess behind. Now my dryer actually works and saves energy like it suppose to! THANKS! read more

Ric and his crew installed duct work and vents that helped balance the heating in our home, after another contractor had said it couldn't be done due to tight spaces. He also replaced our air filter cage after determining that the old filter size was restricting air flow in the house. Ric's solution was creative and the work was very high quality. It was the day after Thanksgiving and I was out of town. My family has a rental home and the tenant could not get the house to go above 62 degrees. I called one Heating and Cooling business that we have used in the past. They said they would have someone call us right back. An hour later and no call, so I called them back and they said they'd call me back... another 30 minutes pass and I call another company. The second Heating and Cooling business has a recording saying they were closed that day. Then I called a 3rd company that asked if I was an existing customer, which I was not.... out of luck... not taking new clients. I then remembered Home Heating and Cooling and they answered the phone and were at that tenants home within 30 minutes. Problem resolved and the price was fair. Our furnace broke in late Spring. We called Home Heating & Cooling based on yelp reviews. Their technician (Chris H) arrived on time and quickly diagnosed the problem (fried circuit board). He explained how the whole system works, what went wrong, and the repair options. He had to order the board. He showed up on time to replace the board, after which he thoroughly tested the whole system. I have never had a more positive experience with any home repair or technician. read more

We used Home Heating and Cooling to clean our air ducts this past spring after moving into a house that had (we cleaned the ducts after pulling out the carpet) really gross carpets and poor air quality. Ric was so helpful and left a unit in our house that measures the particulate matter so we knew it needed to be improved and it was. Next we had them install a heat pump and whole house air filter for us. The install went well, and it worked great in the heat of summer. This winter we ran into some problems with it and they made sure that it was fixed (albeit after a few attempts, but we got there in the end). They had the best prices of all the people we called and we have been pleased with the work. read more

Home Heating did such a great job for us. The cost was less than we had anticipated. The owner himself comes out and does the initial inspections and estimates. He took the time to meet not just me but my kids as well and remembered their names the next time he came out. He explained all the options for us from the less expensive now and end up paying more in the long run or spend a little more now and get the correct size of units for the house that in turn, has saved us more money in gas and electricity to more than make up the difference in the extra cost for the correct size of system. They were able to get us set up with such a great system that we don't even notice if it is heat or air. The temp in the house doesn't even hardly budge. Since they were so honest and upfront with everything, we ended up getting a much better system than we had planned. I am so glad that we did. We now have a system that we are totally happy with and will be happy with for many years to come. read more

If you want an over the phone price estimate for a/c, don't call them. We are thinking of getting a/c installed, but was wanting a simple ball park estimate of what it might cost, to see if it's even in our budget. I would think that knowing our house was built in the last decade [new-ish construction], the square footage and it's one level, I could be given some ball park estimate...does it cost $2k or $5k? $500? $10k? But, NOPE, won't even bother talking to me. They want to come out and I guess try to talk us into getting it. Really disappointing, since I had such a good experience with them when they cleaned out our vents. And then...Pam the receptionist hung up on me. read more

The heater stopped working in a rental house I own in Bend and the tenant called Home Heating to come out to diagnose the problem and repair it. Then the tenant informed me that she had contacted them, so I called Riley and was told that the fuel delivery system needed replaced. Quote was $965. I told them to go ahead, the work was completed in a week (there was a long wait to receive the part) and the heater was working when the tech left. A week later the tenant called me to let me know that the heater was not working again and I received an invoice for the work for $1,189. Home Heating was called again and diagnosed a circuit board that was not working properly and quoted me $420 to replace that circuit board. I told them to hold off and had another company come out to get a 2nd opinion. That tech went out to the house, told me that the first repair had been wired incorrectly, he re-wired it, charged me $85 for a service call and the heater has been working ever since. I contacted the owner Ric by phone, he was aware of the situation, told me that honesty and integrity were paramount in his company and that he would 'make it right' and immediately told me that he would also pay for the service charge for the second company that came out. I accepted that and in all fairness, the heater is old and is no longer supported by it's manufacturer and I can understand that it may have been a difficult diagnosis. Then I received a new invoice for $965 - the original quote for the job. I was also contacted by Riley with an apology and a thorough explanation of what had transpired, no excuses and owning up to having made a mistake. I told him that I didn't want to pay full freight for a job that was done incorrectly (and wondering if the original diagnosis was correct), but that I was willing to pay for the parts that were installed minus the cost of the second company having to come out and asked him to send me an invoice that reflected that. He said I could pay whatever I thought was fair, but then they went a step further. This morning I got an e-mail from their account manager saying that they were not going to charge me anything for the job. I am really impressed by that gesture - they are certainly backing up their word that honesty, integrity and customer satisfaction are important aspects of their business. Bottom line - they made a mistake (it happens, I expect not very often for them), they owned up to it and definitely 'made it right' by me. I was impressed by how they handled the situation and I'm definitely impressed that they were willing to 'put their money where their mouth is'. I have no doubt they are an honest and reputable company. I happened to be the person that caught a mistake from them, but I would suspect that that is a rare occurrence for them and even when they do make a mistake, you can be confident that they are going to make it right by the customer. In addition, they performed a duct sealing on our return and conditioned air ducts. They were awesome. It was the oddest and most unprofessional experience spent while obtaining estimates from our local heating contractors. Ric and his son came to our home to provide estimate to replace furnace and install AC. They spent a good amount of time going through the home, taking photos of the ductwork etc. When it came time to sit down to discuss what we thought would be furnace/AC recommendations, the focus was on cleaning the ducts and their Yelp reviews. Very little discussion on the furnace and AC. We were not given a written estimate. Ric used the back of a file folder to pencil out an estimate, I had to take a photo of it with my phone so I could have a copy. As they were leaving they said they would be emailing us a estimate and other information. We never received any email or additional information. When I called and left a message to request the promised info, Ric returned my call leaving a voice mail once again praising the duct cleaning system and referring me to their Yelp reviews. To this date we have never received any information from this company. And...the handwritten estimate was approx $13K a over the other estimates received from other companies. I couldn't be happier with Chris and Home Heating & Cooling! Chris's kindness and taking his time with me reminds me of "Old School Bend" service people that used to come to my home. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical at first about "Dryer Vent Cleaning." I had never had this done, and I didn't know if it would work. My dryer is only one or two years old, so I thought this needed to be the first step. I appreciate how professional and kind Chris was. I like how the company sent me his photo, via text, so I knew who to expect and an ETA. Chris was respectful to me and he treated me as an equal.....thank you! He didn't talk down to me because I am a woman. He explained to me what was going on. I also value the service today because there was some science/ numbers behind this. The pretest showed the dryer was putting out 178, and after the lint was sucked out from outside the home it read 1757! Additionally, I could see the GIANT ball of lint that was removed from the system! I am grateful for the help. Thank you. read more

After having our routine furnace maintenance & fliter changed by a very non-professional person who obviously wasn't properly trained in his new line of work, we smelled gas immediately. We left the next day for a 3 day weekend and when we returned the smell was overbearing. We opened all the windows and doors & immediately called the company. They sent out a dispatch guy who looked everything over with his meter and he couldn't find anything. But he did say open up all the windows and air out the place. We slept with the windows open all night (18 degrees outside) then called the gas company the next morning. They were out to our house immediately, opened up the house, turned off the furnace and with further investigation, they found a screw that regulates the pressure of gas going into the duct work had NOT been replaced. Therefore, gas was being pumped into our home at a full non-regulated pace. The owner of the company never spoke with me. Instead he passed me off to a service technician. This situation could have killed 2 people, burned down the home or blown up like a bomb. I've debated whether I should report this company to the gas company. They need highly trained maintenance guys when dealing with gas furnaces in people's homes. And the owner needs to be dealing with his customers directly. How about an apology from the owner?
