The Haddock sandwich without tartar sauce was my favorite. I have a severe shellfish allergy but was able to have delicious haddock sandwiches made to order. Also we all loved the Mediterranean salad, mine without chicken and the others with chicken. My mother loved her BLT and others tried the gyro and loved it. Everyone was crazy about the Mediterranean salad, and I loved it best when I had the haddock sandwich without tartar sauce. This is a very popular restaurant, always busy, sometimes with a bit of a wait to be seated. The food is well worth it. read more

An absolute gem! Best local breakfast around, delicious food and top notch service! Do not miss it!

Stopped here one brunch-time while on our recent trip in Maine. This in-between time meant that while my husband was ready for lunch I was still in breakfast mode. No fear: breakfast is served all day long here. I love places like that. We were lucky enough to get a seat on the upstairs patio which was lovely. Our server was very pleasant and we enjoyed chatting with her. My husband got a Reuben sandwich which is one of his go-to favorites when out for lunch. On the menu here though they spell it "Rubin". He thought the corned beef was tender, lean and delicious. He was a happy diner! My omelette was called Pigs Boogie and I immediately had a vision of piglets dancing in a conga line. What did show up instead was a beautifully fluffy omelette that was filled with applewood smoked bacon, cooper cheese and roasted red peppers. It was amazing! It was filled perfectly so that with each precious mouthful you got a little bit of everything. And the omelette was still so light! The omelettes are served with toast of your choice or polenta. Although I am no longer eating any grains I did order the polenta so I could take a bite of it since it used to be a food I really liked. But since the deleterious effects of fats have been measured in the presence of high carb intake, I left it at one bite. It was just okay anyway as I felt it needed a bit more time on the grill with a tiny bit of char or grill marks on it. The wait for our orders seemed a tad long...even the server thought so but we were in no rush. When the food arrived it was hot and fresh and because everything was so good, the wait was worth it. My one complaint is around the food presentation of my dish. It arrived looking so blah! There was the yellow omelet next to the yellow polenta. I am all about an attractive, well-thought out plate of food. Had even a sprig or two of greenery been added or a small portion of fruit...something with color..it would have made a big difference to the presentation! To the Chef: remember: we eat with our eyes first, so please dress up a plate a bit before sending it out. We've been discovering more and more places in Rockland Maine which tends to be the less popular neighbor to more touristy Camden. But Rockland has a lot to commend it not the least of which is fewer tourists. We will definitely return to this place. read more

Long preface: The place that used to be in this spot was called The Brown Bag and it was phenomenal, one of our fave sandwich shops anywhere. We'd eat there at least once each time we visited family in the Rockland area. Our go-to order was a turkey sandwich (the turkeys were cooked daily, the sandwich meat off the bone, rather than blah deli meat) on homemade oatmeal bread. Since the place was a bakery too, you had many freshly baked bread choices for the sandwiches or to carry out, if you wanted a loaf for later: white, wheat, oatmeal or anadama (a New England specialty). We often bought at least one loaf of bread on the way out to toast for breakfasts. We'd also grab some of their homemade cookies. In fact, periodically, my dad would ship bread and cookies from there to us in Brooklyn. Fast forward to the closing of The Brown Bag and the opening of the somewhat similar Home Kitchen Cafe. We were hoping nothing had changed and that was mostly true. The bread was still phenomenal (we got a loaf of oatmeal to go, of course); the cookies and whoopie pie fresh and delicious. The one important/disappointing thing that had changed was the sandwich meat. It was no longer fresh turkey meat off the bone, rather more like thickly sliced deli turkey breast. It didn't ruin the sandwich, but it's no longer the same must-have item. In fairness, we didn't try any other sandwich options, so there may well be other go-to items. Bottom line: The "new iteration" of this place is still a must if you're a fan of homemade bread and/or traditional baked goods. read more

Wow! Just wow!!! I saw the fantastic reviews on Yelp and bookmarked this place for my trip to Maine. I arrived here fairly early because of reading some of the reviews of there being a line or a wait. I parked right away but it was the only spot I saw. You can see that there is an outdoor deck upstairs although no one was up there since it's still kinda cool this time of year. (May) I was greeted right away and told to sit at any open stool I wanted. There were booths in front with a great view but if your just a single like me you can pretty much grab a counter seat right away at most places. I was immediately asked about coffee and if I wanted cream and it was in front of me within seconds. Now that's what I call service!, Nice sized coffee mugs too. Not these tiny little things some diners give you. There were so many delicious looking items on the menu and that were mentioned on Yelp I was having trouble deciding but I ended up going with Mi Casa Fritatta. I also got home fries with peppers and onions. The Mi Casa is an omelet with sautéed onions, but not too many, potatoes, Asiago cheese and smoked cheddar. Thee best fritatta I have ever had. Hands down. Just the right amount of every ingredient. The home fries were great too with small cut up peppers and onion. And the bread!! Oh em gee!! Homemade and you can tell. Every bite with this amazingly beautiful texture all the way down to the crispy crust with perfect amount of butter on it. They did have little packets of jam you can use too. Also, plastic ketchup bottles. Waaaay better to pour than the glass ones My waitress was superb. Very friendly, came over and topped off my coffee and I didn't have to wait forever to get the check. Actually, everyone here was wicked friendly. I will have this place on my list to go to any and every time I'm back in The area and you should too. You will not regret it. Your welcome!! read more

What an incredible find! Ate here two days in a row and everything was excellent. Homemade, high quality, and delicious. Service was friendly and efficient. Had to wait for a few minutes to get seated and for the food. If you want fast food, maybe not the place on a busy day. Everything we had was well worth the wait!! Be sure to check out lobster options on board behind the counter. The lobster sandwich on their bakery made brioche, warm and lobster mixed with butter rather than mayo was spectacular. Husband had biscuits and gravy and said they were the best he has ever had! Lots of sausage and a great biscuit. Home fries with onions and peppers were flavorful both days. "Top rated on yelp-athon" I had a golden opportunity a couple months ago, and then went there to dine, and on this particular day it happened to be a Tuesday. So I drove away disappointed and had to make it a Subway day which was NG. No Good. Finally got here on a non-Tuesday and, arrived, and walked in to the joint and was slapped in the face, in a pleasant way with awesomeness. EveryTHANG on the menu is good. EveryTHANG. You won't be disappointed. Had a delicious lunch. The haddock sandwich. My buddy had the eggs with homemade corned beef hash and he simply adored his meal. Secondly, our server, Zan, was just outstanding. Friendly, professional, pleasant, funny and informative, she was a delight. Finally, a fantastic selection on the menu that included extensive vegetarian options. I chose the Miaga, scrambled eggs and cheese and poblano peppers with tortilla strips. The food is awesome. The service is great and very friendly. My ears are sensitive and I found it difficult to hear when it was crowded. The voices echoed across the room as the original building was an auto garage. If you have issues hearing, I still wouldn't miss a meal there- I'd do take out or go at a time that's not as crowded. I love this restaurant more than life itself! Every time I come here there's a wait, and every time, 100% worth it! "Sinnies," what they call their cinnamon buns, are to die for, as are their breakfast potatoes. Cinnamon bun French toast as well as "rocky coast" oatmeal/granola are unlike I've ever had them elsewhere. Just. WOW! Here for the week from out of town and trying all the local places - so glad we discovered Home Kitchen days before we leave so we can go again! We had the Bahn Home and Haddock sandwiches and both were amazing! The Bahn home was so flavorful and spicy, and the Haddock was a huge piece of fish just perfectly cooked on the most delicious brioche bun I've ever had. Both sandwiches were large and so fresh. We had the cole slaw as a side and it was also tasty - not your average cole slaw. Because we're still in the middle of a pandemic we called in our order and picked up inside - it felt very safe and they are being very cautious. Wear your masks to pick up! My husband ordered the lobster bennies and it was great. The beach burger was great for my daughter - a good bun and real meat! I would highly recommend eating here!!! We walked to the bakery and got a Nieman's cookie, and a whole blueberry pie fresh out of the over. Both were great!
