Delish! Our first day in Camden and I wanted a real breakfast so we came to explore the main harbor and street. Buttermilk Kitchen is one of the main breakfast spots and was highly recommended. We waited about 45 minutes on a 20 minute quote and eventually I went to sit right beside the hostess stand with my toddler bc it was getting long and they seated us quickly after that. Our server was very friendly and happy to make recommendations. We went with the fresh biscuit of the day - which was a delicious peach cornmeal served sliced and warmed. I chose to order the chicken breakfast biscuit sandwich and my husband had the corned beef hash. All was very good and the inside is cute and charming - there is a nice back patio with a few hightop tables overlooking the water. read more

Stopped in for lunch while visiting Camden and this little restaurant has some great food! I got fried chicken with a biscuit, and it was amazing! The batter on the chicken was crispy and light, while the chicken itself was incredibly moist. The biscuit was flaky and delicious and the pepper jelly was very good as well. I added potatoes to my order, but they were not nearly as good as the rest of my food. My friend ordered French toast and corned beef hash and she enjoyed her food as well. Service was good, atmosphere was casual. A little pricy, but Camden is pretty touristy. This was a good stop for us! read more

Situated a door or two down from the Smiling Cow is Buttermilk Kitchen. We didn't have plans to eat in Camden, but the timing turned out to be perfect for lunch, and this sounded good. And it was. My husband was in a breakfast mood and got some scrambled eggs with a blueberry pancake and bacon. He loved it. I wasn't in a breakfast mood, which is a shame because that's what they appear to specialize in (far more choices). Lunch choices were very limited, so I ended up ordering a fried haddock sandwich. I'm not a fried foods kind of person, but it was what they offered. I have to say, it was very tasty... and fresh. I really enjoyed it even if it was fried. It was very conveniently located, so I couldn't be too picky about what they offered on the menu. I was hoping for a bit more to choose from, but okay, I made it work anyway. read more

Stopped by Buttermilk for breakfast before heading out of Camden. Someone had recommended it - I believe they said the chef had competed on Top Chef. Its walk-in only but it was only about 15 minutes for the first available which was two seats at the counter. The atmosphere was very upbeat and bright inside. We decided to share an order of the biscuit donuts - delicious. For our mains, we each got a chicken biscuit sandwich and we split one side of the cheddar grits. The biscuit sandwiches are so good. The chicken was cooked perfectly, and the biscuits are so buttery and grumbly. The sandwich was huge though - I wanted to eat every bite but it was impossible to. The side of grits was more than enough for the two of us to share - we had more than half leftover. Definitely need to hit this place up for breakfast if you are visiting Camden! read more

There was a bit of a wait and I absolutely love that they take your number and text you when your table is ready so you can go and look in the Local shops. Our server was so friendly and our food came out fast! We were impressed with how efficient everything ran. Now onto the best part! Our meal! Omg!! It was all sooo good! As an Atlantan, it came as quite the surprise to find Buttermilk Kitchen in Camden, Maine. While I haven't eaten often at the location in Atlanta, it's always due to the incredibly long lines, which is directly related to the amazing food. The once great Marriner's for just over 80 years, brought in Buttermilk Kitchen, which kept much of the old charm as a tip of the hat to the heritage of the space. As to the Camden location, the food was excellent. A taste of the south in Maine and with a Northeastern twist. Items like corned beef hash, blueberry pancakes and lobster are in addition to the traditional southern biscuits & gravy, grits/pimento cheese grits and the classic southern fried chicken biscuit. Service was great, and with a bit of southern charm. The chef/owner was out delivering food (impressive!) and could not have been most hospitable. Maine really got a big gift in her move to Camden. I highly encourage people to try it out! read more

We loved Buttermilk kitchen in Atlanta, GA and it was always so busy. We were excited when the owner and chef moved to Maine and opened this restaurant in downtown Camden. Super yummy biscuits and her famous chicken biscuits with red pepper relish and pickles. So good. You can add a side of pimento grits as well....so yummy. Wish I would have had room for some fried green tomatoes. This southern born girl was in heaven. The space is small, quaint and cute on the inside. I believe they close at 2pm and are on closed on Tuesdays. They also offer lunch options and haddock chowder. They are downtown Camden so you would look for street parking or the lot down by the water. In the summer they have a small deck that faces the water. read more

Loved our breakfast here! It's such a bright and sunny spot that makes you feel like you're in Maine with the lovely blue walls, marine decor, and beautiful view of the harbor. The staff is all super friendly. It gets very busy so I recommend going early, especially during the warmer weather months. We ended up waiting for about 15 minutes, but it was so worth it. Biscuits are a must in whatever form you get them in. I ordered the Breakfast Biscuit and it was exactly what I want in a breakfast sandwich. The biscuit was well made and didn't fall apart easily, the egg fluffy, the cheese not overwhelming, and a signature touch of red pepper jelly. Plus it comes with potatoes! What a dream. My partner isn't much of an egg guy, but was really happy with his granola bowl. It was very fresh and he appreciated that he could have it made with oat milk. We also split the fried green tomatoes to start and they were fantastic. I don't associate that dish with such a northern state, but they were fresh and not greasy and the Alabama ranch was nice and tangy. Nestled between centuries old shops of Main Street Camden, Buttermilk Kitchen at Marriner's is an adorable brunch spot featuring traditional Maine flavors with a southern twist. Our party of 6 arrived at noon on a Sunday in August and the wait was about 45 minutes, but there were plenty of shops to pass the time. Everyone enjoyed their meals starting with the incredible fried green tomatoes. The fried haddock sandwich was thick and tasty. The biscuits with homemade Maine blueberry jam was the perfect side to accompany the fresh veggies in the Market hash. The fried chicken on a bed of pimento grits was a great plate to share. We stopped in after a weekend of camping, hungry! We left full and even took the biscuit mix with us! Our server, Ocean was fast & efficient. I had a garden omelette that was just right. Wayne, in his quest for homemade hash was thrilled & his poached eggs were perfectly cooked. Two standouts: the home fries & the biscuits. Home fries were crispy on the outside, flavorful and delicious. The biscuits are buttermilk drop biscuits, made better with their blueberry basil jam. I arrived at in Maine in the evening. Couldn't wait to get up and have breakfast. I read the reviews and thought this would be a good place to eat. So my husband and I went here. We both had the same thing eggs over easy a biscuit and home fries. About a half an hour later I had the worst stomach pains I've ever had in my life and spent my first full day in May. Never leaving the bathroom! I called and spoke with the restaurant to see if anybody else had any issues and they said no, but it would've been nice if they offered something to us for our experience there. My lovely bride and I stayed in Camden for a week in August 2025, and we had breakfast at BK every day, except on Tuesday when it is closed. Everything that we ordered was stellar: blueberry pancakes, bacon, fried chicken breast on a biscuit, orange juice, cappuccino, biscuits with red pepper jelly, market scramble, and pimento cheese grits. All the great reviews! Such a cute hip place! It is a cute place and some of the food is good, like the biscuits and the fried chicken. But it's not amazing food. In fact, when my chicken and grits came with hot sauce all over the plate and I immediately started choking, I had to tell the waitress. The menu description is maple syrup/hot sauce and I figured it would actually have some maple syrup taste. It didn't It was just tabasco poured all over. Instead of offering me something else, she said they could scrape the egg and chicken off the top of the grits and the hot sauce and bring it back. I said ok since I didn't want to make a fuss. When I started choking again on the hot sauce that was still under the eggs and chicken she didn't notice. She also didn't notice when we needed water, or a drink. Or the check. She had to fold napkins. I've eaten here 3 times and won't again. The sausage gravy, whatever special Southern thing it's supposed to be is awful. (and I know other people who think so also) It's expensive for what you get. No one bothers to notice a smashed dead fly next to your head on the wall. I ate at Mariners for many years, so comfortable, so rock solid in what you got, the same delicious hot hot soup, the wonderful huge tuna salad sandwich. The chowders, the eggs. Everything was reliable and delicious and not overpriced. You were served your food in ten minutes! And you could sit outside on the deck where they got rid of all the tables now and put 2 high tops. There's almost always a wait, but it's worth the wait. You can't go wrong eating here. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and the servers are pleasant.
