While visiting my friend she ended taking me to Home Kitchen Cafe. We chose to seat at the bar and order from there as it was faster though the waiting time was not long. Our orders were taken pretty fast by the staff that was friendly. My friend got a piece of paper on her coffee cup but the waitress took care of it promptly after we told her what my friend had found. We tried the pecan cinnamon roll which I thought was exceptional. My friend ordered the eggs benedict with a side order of hash browns. She, who has been there before, enjoys the eggs benedict quite a bit. I tried the hash browns and though I liked them, they were nothing to rave about. I ordered the huevos rancheros which I thought were eggcellent. The meal consists of a very nice flavorful black bean with some tomato base, which unlike Texas the base consists of tomato sauce with some peppers, topped off with the eggs, chipotle sauce, sour cream, avocado, and cilantro. The smokey flavor of the chipotle sauce gave the whole meal a nice rich flavor with a kick of spice. I devoured the whole thing to say the least as I do enjoy quite a bit of heat in my meal. Additionally, the meal comes with a corn tortilla which they place at the bottom of the meal. Pro-tip: If you put in your name to wait, they won't sit you until your whole party is standing there at the hostess table. They do not tell you this. They just skip over you without saying anything. Watched so many ppl wait for 30 min because they had a person missing who was outside or across the street after being told it is a 20 min wait. They are strict and mean and you must be standing together in view to get a table. Food and waitstaff is great. Give those hostesses a break so they can rest and actually be friendly to ppl. Really enjoyed the food here. This cafe in Rockland is a great place to stop on your way up Route 1 from Portland to Mount Desert Island. They make everything in house here and everyone is super friendly. Usually I heard there is a long wait, but we got here around 10am on a Saturday and it wasn't that bad. We shared the sticky bun and the corned beef hash with poached eggs and toast. You cannot go wrong with the sticky bun, it's just the perfect amount of sweetness, and the bun is not too soggy or too dry, and the pecans on top were just the perfect amount of nuttiness to give it a well rounded texture! We scouted this restaurant because they can accommodate gluten free eaters. We started with a gluten free pancake and it was good! My wife said it was pretty darn close to a normal pancake. I've been to a lot of diners, but little things about home kitchen cafe made me impressed. First off, we ordered the mac n cheese eggs Benedict and that was great; breadcrumbs were crunchy, dish was cheesy, and eggs pouched perfectly. We also got the home on the border omelet. The toast, I believe they make themselves so it's not the normal dinky toast at most diners; it was nice, crispy, dense, and not drowning in butter. I wasn't personally too crazy about the homefries because I prefer them crispy, but they were seasoned nice. Service was good. I liked that the take home box was lined with aluminum foil to keep your food hot. Would come back if we're back in town! They have a small front parking lot and that gets filled up pretty quick, but there was plenty of free street parking along rt 1. read more

Home Kitchen Café is a popular breakfast café located off of Main Street near the heart of town. THE PARKING Convenient private lot parking with 12 stalls or unmetered street parking. We were lucky to have a spot open up just as someone was leaving. THE ATMOSPHERE Even at 2 o' clock in the afternoon with 1 hour left to spare before closing, this sizable restaurant was packed with a line of people waiting to be seated. It was about a 20 minute wait for our 2-top sunny indoor corner table facing the street. Luckily, there are blinds over the windows to which diners can adjust to their preference. There are also bar top tables, counter seating and an outdoor patio area with weather permitting. THE FOOD ---Cup of Haddock Chowder $6.95--- House made classic chowder of haddock, potatoes, onions, milk and cream. It was a delicious thin broth chowder, and was full of body from the milk and cream. There was a hearty amount of fish and potato with each spoonful. My husband didn't care much for the haddock chowder, but only because he prefers clam chowder. ---Turkey Sandwich $7.99 + GLUTEN FREE WHITE BREAD $0.75--- First let me just say, the house made GLUTEN FREE white bread was extraordinarily soft and fluffy. Served with lettuce, tomato, mayo, pickle and choice of potato chips or house made slaw, the ratio of smoked turkey meat to bread was perfectly balanced. My husband quietly woofed down the whole thing in no time flat since it was way past our lunch time and we were starving. ---Mediterranean Salad $9.49 + Chicken $3 Fresh mixed greens and baby spinach with cucumber, red onion, avocado, artichoke hearts, Kalamata olives, roasted red pepper, feta cheese and tomatoes. Tossed with house made balsalmic vinaigrette. Served with a side of house made pita bread. I opted to hold the onion, olives, peppers, cheese and tomatoes and requested for the dressing to be on the side. It was a good blend and very refreshing. I wish I could live at Home! Almost everything here is homemade, from the ranchero sauce and tortillas to the bread for toast. This sounds super corny, but the love they put into the food really shines through in every bite. There was a 20-30 minute wait for breakfast at 10am on New Years Day, and I gather that it would be similar on most weekends. The friendly staff kept us entertained as we waited, so it didn't feel like long until we were ordering. To start we shared a cinnamon bun ($3.75): warm, fluffy, and covered in plenty of gooey icing. Some places don't use real yeasted dough for cinnamon rolls, but not so here. Don't leave without one! You can even take it to go if you're too full from real breakfast. (For those confused about the difference between a sticky bun and a cinnamon roll: sticky has pecans and caramel, while cinnamon has no nuts and icing.) I had the mind-blowingly good huevos rancheros ($11). The two eggs were perfectly poached and practically melted into the pile of avocado, black beans, pepper jack, sour cream, and cilantro below. The waitress called it their "signature dish," and I could taste why. I also tried the "Irish Bennie," which has corned beef hash instead of ham. You can tell the hollandaise sauce is homemade and not from a jar. You can add homefries to any breakfast for $1.50, or $2 with onions and peppers. There's also the option to substitute polenta for the homemade toast, which I've never seen before. The coffee ($2) is locally roasted at Rock City Coffee Roasters, which is nearby on Main St. The Bloody Mary ($10) was one of the best I've had, with a garnish of a pickle, olive, and a hot pepper. (I also noticed that they use Absolut.) If you're feeling more sedate, the hot chocolate is super rich and piled with whipped cream. We took a homemade whoopie pie to go as a snack for later. It was huge and the cream cheese filling was super rich! I would consider moving to Maine so I could have brunch here every weekend. If you're in the Rockland area you absolutely HAVE to come to Home Kitchen Cafe. It is 100% worth the wait! read more

I had such a great experience here and the service was so friendly and welcoming that it just fit that this was our first restaurant on vacation. I read all the fabulous yelp reviews so I absolutely had to order the Lobster Tacos. What a great suggestion because they were better than I was even expecting! The dish is 2 tacos stuffed with huge chunks of lobster, slices of avocado and a slaw. The flavor was wonderful and it made me want more lobster! My boyfriend ordered the special of the steak and eggs- the piece of steak was much larger than we both expected. We were happily sitting at the breakfast bar when we saw THEM....the largest cinnamon and sticky buns. These things are ridiculous in size. We ordered a cinnamon bun to go and then they brought out Carrot Cake cupcakes and of course I had to get one of those as well. A very cozy, welcoming house with a private parking lot or street parking, my husband and I chose this restaurant for our first breakfast in Maine. A hostess seats you: bar seating, outdoor patio, tabletop. I can see how this place would get packed! Our waitress was super nice! She was prompt and welcomed us to stay as long as we wanted. We got the local coffee as described in the pictures. The Huevos Rancheros were incredibly tasty, and the portion was plenty! I love potatoes, so I added on their home potatoes with/peppers & onion. Was in Rockland, Maine for work for literally one night, had to grab breakfast before my job. Got here at 7:30am on a weekday, place was almost full and with good reason, food and service are awesome. This is pretty much what you want out of a restaurant - everything homemade, great flavor, a lot of creativity, super homey, good prices, and genuine service. I was told by some locals that they just redesigned the place, there's a cool roof deck and some outdoor seating that looks hip and modern. If I'm ever back in Rockland, Maine this will be one of m stops. Just too bad they close at 3pm! I had the migas (eggs with corn tortillas and peppers mixed in) with some house made buttermilk white bread on the side. To start with, my ONLY complaint about this place was that it is too far away for me to visit regularly!!! I'm so glad that we looked around. First of all, they have these amazing cinnamon rolls. I had one for a starter and it was so good that I purchased another to bring home for my father. I then had the Bennie Mac, which consists of fried macaroni and cheese, spinach, and a perfectly poached egg. Heathy? Absolutely not. Delicious and totally worth it? YES! My favorite thing about this place was not the food but the employees. We came here by chance, My husband, son and I all got the Huevos Rancheros, my daughter had the Mac and cheese Bennie and my parents split the Reuben sandwich. The instant we walked in to Home Kitchen, we were struck by the energy of the place. It's brightly painted and the staff is friendly and smiling. The locals seated around us told us that everything on the menu was good. When the table next to us was finished, we saw three of the staff swoop in, bus it, and reset it with super efficiency. That kind of efficiency is necessary given the popularity of the place. I ordered the fish tacos with homemade corn tortillas. I don't normally prefer corn tortillas, but these were outstanding, and the filling was even better. My wife ordered the special of the day - haddock cakes, eggs, house potatoes with toast. The bread is baked in their own bakery and the tartar sauce was made in house as well. The attention to detail, excellent service, and outstanding flavor made this a great lunch. Oh, and it was an excellent value as well. If you have time, walk a block to their bakery. It started after the cafe so that they could maintain quality baked goods in the cafe. We come to this area every other year and this remains or favorite place for breakfast. Large selection of breakfast and lunch items (both available all day) all fresh and tasty, good coffee that keeps coming, and terrific sides. They offer home made breads or delicious polenta (my choice) with egg dishes. Eggs are cooked just as you order them, home fries can be ordered crispy...and they are, and pancakes are huge and delicious. Service is friendly and efficient. Some of the greatest thai food I've ever had. It's amazing that we now have a Thai place in downtown Gainesville. I fell in love with their Tom Kha Gai(herb coconut milk soup) from their hot appetizer section. It was creamy, aromatic, with a spicy kick, alongside some veggies and a decent portion of large shrimp. The thai Fried Rice and the PadThai noodles were out of this world, you can tell their dishes are seasoned with the right amount of fresh herbs and spices, making such simple dishes unlike any other. We also were eager to sample some of the fish they had available from their sushi selection. We had a cold appetizer of salmon sashimi cuts drizzled with like sesame seed oil and ginger, with a sweet and tangy touch and pieces of orange for a complementary bite. Sprinkled with spruts, this appetizer had such a delicate taste and gorgeous plating. We tried a couple of their nigiri sushi to see how their fish was, and I was very happy to see that they note out their seasonal fish, under reasonable prices. We had the ikura(salmon roe) with a locally sourced quail egg on top, mackerel, & braised eel. Ambrosia, enough said. We still have yet to try their coconut milk curries, their lunch specials seem pretty decent so we will soon be dropping by to check it out for lunch for sure. Our only predicament was that a few of the circular plates/bowls for which the food is plated. I mean, their dishes are plated with style and look amazing, although they felt a bit too big for some of the individual items set on the table.. The Hoff and I stopped here to start the day. I was told that I should order two pancakes because they aren't that big. Well, the pancake was as big as my head, so I really didn't need two. I had them with blueberries, which were tasty. The restaurant boasts "real Maine maple syrup" but I'm not a maple syrup person, so I abstained. I probably should have tried it just to see what it was like. The Hoff had the oatmeal brulee with blueberries and oatmeal bread on the recommendation of our waitress. He seemed to like it. I've never heard of bruleeing oatmeal, but it seemed to work. The coffee was adequate, but not great.
