Chinese Restaurant in Asia Mall [Eden Prairie MN] Hankering for some Asian food we looked for places to eat that stayed open late. We checked in our hotel first then proceeded to head out to look for the restaurant. It happens to be inside Asia Mall. The restaurant is to the right as you enter the automatic doors. There was just one other family dining when we walked inside around 9:10p. Their hours in Yelp noted that they closed at 10:00p so we figured it was ample time and we should be finished dining by then. We ordered Salty Fish Shrimp Fried Rice / 咸鱼虾炒饭 and Pork Chop with Salt & Pepper / 椒盐猪扒 by the time they served our food it was around 9:25p... around this time also we were the only ones left in the dining room but they allowed us to finish although a bit rushed. As an ABC who grew up in the San Gabriel Valley in LA, I've had my fair share of incredible Cantonese food. Hometaste in Eden Prairie really hit the mark and brought me right back to the kind of comfort food I grew up with. I ordered the roast pork from the fatty cut, and it was exactly how it should be. Moist, flavorful meat with perfectly crispy skin. The cha siu was just as good, with a sweet, sticky glaze that struck a great balance without being too heavy. I also tried the salted fish and chicken fried rice, and it had that bold, pungent, savory punch I was hoping for. Super satisfying. Dining room was spacious and the servers were on point. The whole meal reminded me of the classic Hong Kong BBQ spots back in LA, like Sam Woo. Me and the bf ordered some bbq pork with smoked eel over fried rice for me, and for him some sweet and sour shrimp. We also got some Hong Kong milk tea, which tasted great with what i would describe as a great drink with a hint of creme brûlée (taste) loved it. We also got some shrimp and crab meat rolls, it came with what we believe to be yumyum sauce (we didnt ask but we should have) the rolls were wonderful and crispy. This was my first trip to Asia Mall. It was an eye-opening experience to see a NYC or LA style Asian only mall in MN! It's been a super long time coming. Home Taste is the only Cantonese Restaurant in the mall. I might add that it is the only authentic Cantonese restaurant in the Edina/Chanhassen/Eden Prairie/West Bloomington region. I went at the end of the day on a Saturday when things were winding down for dinner for one. The restaurant has an inviting and open feel. It's very clean and tidy, with a modern build-out reminiscent of newer restaurants in Flushing NY or Brooklyn Chinatown. I ran into an old waiter I knew from Mandarin Kitchen and Hong Kong Noodle. This put me at ease as I knew what level of service I would expect, as those Cantonese places valued service at dinner time. I was sad to read about the bad reviews due to service here as it was definitely not the case for me. My server was attentive, with the right amount of engagement and giving space. There were never complaints regarding table service from me or my Hong Kong family at HK Noodle, Mandarin, and now at Home Taste. I ordered the Seafood Pan Fried Noodle, which is a classic Cantonese dinner noodle entrée. This is the very dish where the American Chow Mein was based, except it's 100% better than the American-Chinese version in it's authentic form. They stir fry lo mein egg noodles, and quickly dip them into the fryer to get the edges crisp. They then put a simple stir fried mix, in this case seafood (prawns, squid, and large tilapia filets) with veggies in a classic garlic white sauce, and pour it on top of the partially crispy noodles. The result is a mix of yummy saucy with a little bit of crunch. Now the level of cooking at Home Taste is what I would rate as homecook+. Meaning it's just a little better than your average homecook. Well my mom is a near-gourmet chef. She learns from Shanghai's top chef's for fun. So that's not a fair comparison lol. I would say that compared to the other Cantonese places in town, it's a 3 out of 5 on food. The ingredients were super fresh, the presentation was spot on. Taste, well, it's "Home Taste." They are truthful in their assessment of themselves. The biggest complaint was the bill. Holy cow with tip it was getting close to $40 for one singular noodle entrée out the door. Maybe it's par for the course for authentic Cantonese dining now. It's getting to the point now where I need to pay mom for Zoom cooking lessons lolol. So the one lost star was more for the relatively blandness of the dish compared to the price charged. It is the ONLY formal dining spot in the Mall, and the classiest one at that. So that's what you're paying for. If you're here with your family with the in-law's, and don't feel like getting messy in a smash your face silly AYCE hot pot joint, then this is your only choice unless you drive all the way across to Mandarin Kitchen in East Bloomington. read more

We were drawn to the restaurant because of all of the menu choices/options, and we especially liked how they offer "combo" lunch specials, with a main dish, steamed/fried rice, and an egg roll. We also liked how it reminded us of places we use to go in San Francisco. The food was pretty good. Our daughter really liked the rice and egg roll, and we both liked our main courses. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were good. The restaurant was fairly quiet when we arrived, but started to get pretty busy as we were finishing. Seating is somewhat standard for a sit-down Cantonese restaurant, with a mix of smaller and also larger tables capable of seating 10 or more people. Service was fast at the beginning, but as the restaurant got busier, it got slower, and although we ordered and got our food fairly quickly, we had a hard time getting our check. While we wouldn't drive all the way from Minneapolis just to eat at Home Taste, we would definitely visit again if we are in the area! read more

This place is located inside the Asia mall on the bottom floor to the right when you walk in. Whenever I'm around the area, I usually would stop in and have a quick lunch. The service there is attentive and the place is welcoming. They start by bringing you some tea and water. My go to meal is the Chinese broccoli, roast duck, and bbq pork. The meals here average about 18+. Unless you get some dim sum items, they are around 6 to 15 bucks. Some people complain about the price,I don't. Food comes out in nice portions and I haven't had any bad experience here at all. You want cheap then head down to the Chinese joints by the projects. For starters, we decided to get the cream cheese wonton. They were hot and crispy with the right amount of cheese goosiness. For our main course, we shared the fried rice, Chinese Broccoli, and 1/2 Hong Kong Fried Duck. The portions were definitely generous. Plus, the flavor was just right for the fried rice. The Chinese Broccoli were just steamed right and not too salty. The duck was ok, in my opinion, because I wanted more meat, but it was more lean than I liked. We finally made it to Asia Mall, and we didn't really have a plan! We saw Home Taste, and it had a much shorter wait than Hot Pot City, so we grabbed a table! The space is very plain. No real interior design or coziness to it! Service was very quick and attentive during our whole stay. The food was alright. We take some of the blame for not ordering our favorite items, but the Cheese Wontons, Panfried Noodle, and Japanese fried rice had muted flavors and finished salty. Ordered one of my favorites, salted fish and chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and fried pork dumplings. The fried rice was tasty with a little hint of salted fish. I like a little more salted fish flavor but this dish was just fine. The sweet and sour chicken was large and small morsels. Chicken was tasty and not dried out. (Sweet and sour can be fried chunks at other places.) Not overly sauced. The fried pork dumplings were good. Great filling inside and I liked the dipping sauce (could always be better). If you go to the Asia mall this should definitely be a place you should eat at. The food itself was absolutely delicious. Between four people we shared 1/2 roast duck, seafood pan fried noodles, tofu lunch dish, and fried baby squid. The roast duck was the star of the show. I love duck and I have to say this was probably the best duck I've ever had. It was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I cannot wait to come back and order this again. The pan fried noodles and tofu were really good and packed with flavor as well. Where they fell short were the fried baby squid. There wasn't much too it and it really wasn't worth the price. I did give this place only 4 stars instead of 5 because of the service and the ambiance of the place. There isn't much too it and it sort of felt like a food court eating area instead of a restaurant. I would of enjoyed a better feel to the place but I hope since the restaurant just opened maybe they are planning on adding more to it. read more

I was surprised that my favorite dish was the tofu and veggies dish, I loved how it came on a hot plate so the food stayed warm the entire time. The beef chow fun was good too! The lobster fried rice was not bad, but I didn't like how some of the lobster shells fell into the rice so it was a bit difficult to eat sometimes. Otherwise, the flavor of it was good! I got takeout for my husband and me. 1. Fried dumplings: Good not great, got a little steamy in takeout box which is to be expected but I wished they were a little crispier. Dipping sauce was good, sweet. 2. Spicy salt & hot pepper shrimp: this was very tasty. They were fried with the skin on which I know is important for maintaining flavor but I admit texturally it was hard to get over chewing the shells. This is almost certainly a white Minnesotan person problem so don't want to ding them for this. 3. Pork eggplant with garlic sauce: this was the real downer. It was delicious but there were about 3 small pieces of pork total. 95% of it was just eggplant which was disappointing for $20, as it was meant to be a main dish and not just a veggie side Overall good but very expensive and disappointed in eggplant dish. Legit Cantonese food that is tasty and worth the drive. Part of the Asia Mall, a sizable mall that includes an expansive grocery store and multiple restaurants. If ambience is your jam, this won't meet that requirement. It's basic with a few round tables for medium sized families and a few smaller tables. Don't let the ambience fool you as the food is tasty and rivals the best Cantonese restaurants within the twin cities. Service was prompt and attentive. Enjoyed all of the entrees we tried. The salt and pepper pork chop is not grisly and has good quality pork chop meat. The walnut shrimp is great, not too much batter and not drowning in sauce. The walnuts are glazed and delish. My favorite was the Japanese style sizzling tofu. Very light, soft tofu in a meat sauce. I was worried it may be too salty but it was divine. Others have mentioned price. Sitting right on the main level of Asia Mall, Home Taste serves up Hong Kong inspired cuisine with a display of Peking Duck for all to see. There are plenty of options to choose from, but being that Peking Duck can be such a great dish, it was hard to pass up. It was good, but not great relative to others that I've had. The two taste keeps things pretty minimal with an opportunity to make duck tacos followed up with soup. For the price, it just wasn't really worth it. We also tasted the Steamed BBQ Pork Buns on our visit, which were a bit below average. The sauce was almost red, lacked in richness, and the buns a little bit too doughy. I'm so glad it's on the first floor. I have no desire to go to the second. I like a nice sit down place. I had the cream cheese wontons. They are pretty basic and have a very good sauce. I got kung pao shrimp for later with fried rice and it comes with an eggroll. It was all very good. I liked how you could get a lunch combo on the weekend. I got Basil a garlic fried sole fish combo with the same stuff. BD's review really tempted me. I also got fried squid appetizer that I liked. Great new place within the new Asia Mall here in Eden Prairie, Mn. My family and I have been here now twice since they have opened. They still have some growing/new restaurant processes to work thru (thus the 4 star vs 5), but the food is fresh and we love it. They have fresh fish and seafood, as well as roasted pig and duck. Come early as this place (as well as the whole Asian mall) fills up fast. So good we came back 2 more times that same week after trying it! AND came here for Christmas dinner! We go early on weeknights (around 5-5:30) and each time the service was incredibly fast. Right off the bat this place is CLEAN. Floors, tables, everything is really tidy and sanitary. You'll be brought a pot complimentary jasmine tea right away which is absolutely heavenly. This is truly the best jasmine tea I've had; not even remotely bitter tasting like other green teas. They must brew it very carefully. Our favorite thing on the menu is the Garlic Fried Sole fish! It melts in your mouth and the portion size is massive so it's a perfect entree to split. The Asia Mall is fun to check out before or after dinner; we like to walk around the market afterward and take home some milk teas and candy. Parking is easy with the lot out front. The seating area so open, clean, roast duck and pork right on display hanging, & live eel, geoduck, crab etc. in their tanks -- I ordered the garlic sauce bok choy and baby squid with salt and hot pepper. My father in law got the roast duck and chinese broccoli. We all shared a bit. Everything was some of the best of each that I've had and we've had in general.
