We have had Home Again for the past 4 years and have been repeatedly disappointed in the service. Here are just a few incidents we have encountered:
1. UNRELIABLE WEBSITE AND PROBLEMS CREATING A PASSWORD
2. TOO MUCH UNNECESSARY RED TAPE FOR TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP: Long story short - I adopted a dog whose former owner abandoned him. They wouldn't transfer ownership until I pointed out that the former owner had not paid and I would pay. That says a lot IMHO.
3. POOR QUALITY MERCHANDISE: I ordered ID tags for each of my pets at a whopping $23.00 apiece. The tags were poor quality and I ended up replacing them with another company for $1.95 each.
4. NOT VERY HELPFUL WHEN YOU REALLY NEED THEM: The people at Home Again could care less about you or your pet. What they want is good publicity and lots of your money. They aren't really set up to actually help in a time of crisis. My advice is to stay away from them - Microchips are a great idea, but you should look for a different company.
Read this message I sent to them concerning how we lost our dog and how he was recovered. Home Again never even gave us the courtesy of a response:
MAX COMES HOME IN SPITE OF HOME AGAIN
We were on Christmas Vacation in the Arkansas River Valley in Nathrop, Colorado. We had rented a vacation house for the week and were having a relaxing time in the forest. It was Christmas evening and we were just getting ready for our holiday meal when every pet owner's worst fear came true.
My husband took our dogs for a potty break before supper when they spotted a herd of deer. Our Max bolted after them into San Isabel National Forest. We were frightened and immediately tried to contact Home Again.
Unfortunately, the Home Again site was down and we wasted precious time struggling with the malfunctioning website. I tried again and again to log on to the site, all to no avail. We ended up calling Home Again on their toll-free number to report our lost dog, but as far as I know, no action was ever taken by Home Again. We never heard from them and received no help at all, other than the sympathy of the telephone service rep. Our attempts to contact Home Again cost us a whole hour while it was growing dark and our lost dog was getting farther and farther away.
Meanwhile, we began searching the backroads in the forest and notified all the people who lived in the area - both by word of mouth and a local radio station who announced our plight via a Public Service Announcement. Our landlord is a Forest Ranger and was familiar with all the back roads.so his help was invaluable. Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort put all their employees on alert. All the neighbors left their Christmas dinners to join the search. After a few hours, our Max was spotted and we knew the direction in which he was headed. We followed the trail, and soon, we could see him in a driveway, but he was disoriented and didn't recognize us in the dark. Fortunately, he didn't run away and when I got close enough for him to know who I was, he ran to me in great joy and relief.
We were so happy to have our little Max back! And we were disappointed that in our time of crisis, Home Again was unable to offer any help at all, and actually hindered our search because of the time we lost trying to log onto a website that was down. We aren't very impressed with Home Again.
Had it not been for our Landlord, the neighbors who lived in the area, the local radio station, and the employees at Mt. Princeton, we might have lost our little Max for good. It was the willingness of helpful people who left their Christmas celebrations to help us find a small dog in a large forest that made a world of difference. Home Again did nothing. read more
