The inspectors made false claims about the condition of the house. From comments that there was not enough room to walk behind a camper in order to access the side of the house, when in fact a person could pass through the area, to claiming the existence of a flea and tic infestation, the inspectors made every excuse as to why they couldn't complete the inspection. They refused to complete the inspection until some kind of action be taken to remedy what they had(falsely) reported. From what these inspectors were reporting, I was very concerned about the condition of the house and feared buying it! I had to hire another company to investigate the crawl space to find out what was really going on and in fact no infestation at all was found. My experience with HomeGuard was extremely stressful and caused me to lose time and money. My realtor nearly lost the sale and will not be hiring HomeGuard again. read more

One day I learned that HomeGuard, Inc. provided a one stop shopping experience, which allows one to bundle home inspection, termite inspection, roof inspection and natural hazards disclosure report together (they now do homeowner's warranty as well). This gets one a discount and alleviates the necessity of dealing with multiple vendors and inspection times. While this idea is great in and of itself, what makes it even more refreshing is the fact that they do not sacrifice quality. I am a strong believer in customer service and they really excel at that. Every time I call, the phone is answered by Melisa, unfailingly cheerful and friendly associate, who always manages to accommodate my requests for particular dates and times as well as numerous special arrangements. I appreciate the quality of their inspections, feedback and great follow up. I believe they are a large company, but you never get a feeling that you are dealing with a faceless corporate monstrosity. Homeguard performed the inspection for our home, that we are in thr process of selling. The person who came to our house to perform the inspection left the planks that covered the opening to the crawl space underneath the house wide open within what was our tenants daughter's room... If that was not bad enough, he did not deem to tell anyone that it was open and instead simply placed a box over the hole to cover it up! Our tenants daughter is a toddler, and if this mistake was not caught which thankfully it was by the general inspector who came next to inspect our home, our tenants daughter could have been seriously hurt. We expect a certain level of professionalism for what we pay for, and so needless to say this situation was very disappointing. Save your money and find a more ethical company, I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

My realtor recommended Homeguard to do the inspection on our pending 1996 home. They did an excellent job, went through the whole house and found multiple areas that need to be corrected. All issues that I spotted were on their report, and a lot more that I did not even see. I definitely recommend them, specially Ken Powell and Scott Hyslop. Did the home, roof, termite inspection. I was not happy with the workers Home Guard sent out to open up a wall to inspect for water damage. They opened up 3 areas that had water stains 2 small spots in the house & 1 in the garage. Lucky nothing major was wrong. But the workers that opened the wall and then closed it with new dry wall did a HORRIBLE job... such a disappointment. This is my first home & every time I look at the wall (which is in our main living room) I get so upset. We paid a lot of money to inspect the house and confirm there was no further damage but the job they did created more work for us. They came out a second time and somewhat fixed the problem but the texture does not match & they messed up the corner beyond repaI've been trying to find someone to repair the wall and that has been challenging. I don't think the wall will ever look the same. I wouldn't recommend this company find someone else or at least don't let their workers open any walls up because they unfortunately cannot put the wall back in a semi classy way. Update to this review: Home Guard has since reached out to me after this review. It was something I did not at all expect.. They really went above and beyond to fix this problem.. I felt that they were extremely understanding and willing to do whatever it took to bring resolution to this problem. They sent out a group that specializes in dry wall work and they did a fantastic job with the repair. The wall looks so much better ... the damage that was done is not as noticeable as before. I'm really happy they were able to fix our wall! And thankful that Home Guard reached out to me to make this happen!! read more

HomeGuard contacted us after my initial review and sent an inspector out to re-inspect our property. Thankfully, they did admit to negligence and missing the pest damage to the front of our house. It took a few weeks of negotiations (and the help of our realtor) with them to get them to cover everything they missed. They would not give us money to hire our own contractor, but did complete the work free of charge, which is GREATLY appreciated since it would have been a struggle to come up with the $10k+ on our own, unexpectedly. The work was done with permits and in the end, it all turned out ok. The craftsmanship is acceptable, but definitely not perfect and in some areas, we will have to do quite a bit of touching up. There also seemed to be a lack of communication between the workers on the site, the contractor supervisor, and HomeGuard itself, so there was a lot of work on our end to make sure the work got done right. The project took longer than we had hoped, but I think a lot of that had to do with scheduling of City inspections (and they failed the first structural inspection and had to re-do work). We got an email from HomeGuard saying the work was completed before it was and before we got our final inspection. I want to give the company credit for doing the right thing, which in the end saved us from some financial hardship, so I upgraded the number of stars. However, I want to make it clear that they still missed significant structural/pest damage on our home inspection that could have impacted the price we paid for the home/if we bought this home. That to me is still unacceptable. If you use them for a home inspection (or I think any inspection company), I would double-check everything they say thoroughly and not just trust that they did a complete job. Which is sad, considering you pay several hundred dollars for a professional to do this. read more
