After the recent storms, I noticed a small leak in the ceiling with light water stains. It wasn't actually dripping down to the floor but I wanted it checked out sooner than later. I reached out to several roofers on Yelp for quotes and sent a picture. Tom from Roof-Life Construction responded back shortly. I called him Friday morning his son, Max, came out a few hours later. Max came out, hopped up on the roof, and found a few slipped and cracked tiles. He actually showed me photos of the underlayment, which was looking pretty rough and worn out. He even sealed a few spots on the spot just to hold me over, which I really appreciated. The quote was very fair and reasonable, so we went for it. His crew showed up early the next morning and knocked out the repairs and new underlayment in about two and a half hours. They were total pros, very thorough, and showed me some before-and-after pics so I could see exactly what they did. All in all a great job! and very professional. I recently used Roof-Life to reroof my house and was very pleased with all aspects of the work and our experience with the company. The roofing job was fairly complex in that it consisted of the replacement of a 48 year old cement tile, skip-sheeted roof with a modern CertainTeed Presidential TL shingles roof. There was a great deal of wood work required for 2x8 fascia I wanted installed around all the eve's to hide the dental effect of the exposed struts which remained after I had cut off the rotted ends years earlier. Also all the skip sheeting had to be covered by osb and plywood, which effectively gave me a new roof. I got a total of 8 proposals for this work and wasn't satisfied with any of them. Mainly, none of them were willing to to give me the roof design I wanted and instead proposed lesser designs/work for the same or more cost than Roof-Lifes quote (and final cost). In setting up the job, I dealt with the owner, Tom Rhoades. He is very knowledgeable with all aspects of roofs and was very personable and accommodation throuout the project. I always like to do my own painting and wanted to paint all the new fascia and exposed plywood myself. Tom recommended and let me paint the new fascia board on the ground before they were installed thus saving me the increased work and risk of me painting them after installation. Tom's son, Max, is Tom's Construction Superintendent and it was obvious to me that he inherited his dad's great work ethics and roofing knowledge. He did a great job of dealing with us often and overseeing all the work. Initially he walked the job with me and came up with a great final design, which he had installed by his crew exactly as he initially proposed it. He was great to work with! Finally, the crew they used for this work went away beyond all me expectations. The crew consisted of only a lead installer and his helper, and completed the project in 10 days. The lead installer was a master craftsman in carpentry and roofing installation. I'm a retired chemical and mechanical engineer, who has let out and administers hundreds of projects over my 40 + year career and I can honestly say that these craftsmen were as good as any, in any discipline, I've ever seen. Max came promptly to survey the roof and give estimate. Tom, the owner, is responsive and best of all accommodated my timeline to get roofing done so that my solar install can stay on schedule. They were booked solid through the year end but they committed to a timeline, even with the rainy weather that ate up lot of days, and delivered. We knew we needed a new roof and were waiting for spring/summer to get the work done instead of during the rainy season. Tom and Max were great at coming out to our house in a timely manner, explaining the types of roofs, and even looked into solar shingles for us since we were interested in it. We just completed a large project by Roof-Life construction and could not be happier with both the results and the process. We took bids from a number of folks and had a range of bids. Roof-Life was competitive among the many folks we spoke with, but notably were more up front with a number of itemized details that others didn't dig into. The owners son, Max came out to provide an estimate and laid out the details on the process, the products I could choose from and the pro's and cons of all options along with the importance of things like venting, flashing, how to deal with my many skylights and their approach to the broader solution given the unique circumstance to my project. More notably, I wanted to combine a few fixes to a poor design to an existing addition done by a previous owner that didn't allow for great drainage along with the addition of a new gabled entry to the front of our home. This is where Tom (the owner) really was a huge help given his flexibility to work with me and another contractor who would do that portion of the project. We had some late spring rain that caused some delay's - but Tom worked with my other contractor to ensure nothing would be rushed and we'd schedule his crew to do a tear off and installation of all new OSB boards once we had a safe weather window to begin the work that would allow a pause in the middle for my other contractor to make the desired design changes followed by the final roof install as a follow up. Sergio, the lead roofer and project foreman was an amazing craftsman who took great pride in his work and kept a clear and clean job site. He took great care to talk me through every step and pointed out any area of concern that would require fixes due to rot. There was multiple roofs layered on my home and a good bit in need of repair - but he made sure to explain and clearly point to all the issues to make certain that I was always clear on the "what, the why, and the how they would address. As my tandem carpentry effort was under way, there became a very minor 10% chance of rain. Tom didn't want to take any risks, so he sent Sergio to paper over everything for even the smallest chance of a weather event that had the potential to rain on my exposed home. As the project wrapped, Max and Sergio both did multiple walk throughs to make sure any open concerns were addressed, all nails and debris were removed and even scheduled work to be finalized on some last minute fixes to skylights that needed to be replaced while I was away on vacation at the close of the project. In the end, I would recommend Tom, Max and their crews at Roof-Life with zero hesitation. My mother-in-law had what we assumed was a roof leak. A friend referred Max from Roof-Life Construction. He met me later that day, quickly diagnosed the problem - not a roof issue, but a drainage issue. In fact, there was still standing water on the roof. While Max was on the roof, he determined that the main drain as clogged, and the emergency drain was covered. He removed the debris covering the emergency drain, resolving the standing water issue until we could have a plumber come to provide a more permanent solution for the main drain. Much to my chagrin, Max refused any form of payment, but I have his number for the next time we have a roof issue. read more

Tom is the man! I was playing with my kids when I noticed a small crack in our wall in the playroom. My eyes went up from the crack and I noticed what looked like water damage where our ceiling meets our wall. There were some other areas as well, so I quickly called Tom and he came out within an hour on a Sunday(!!). I've dealt with other roofing companies before and this was a huge surprise. Tom was very quick to answer my call and to come out to my home to look at a leak we have. We have had 2 other well known roofing companies come out over the last year and a half, charge us to fix something, and when the rain comes back, so does the leak. Tom came out, thoroughly inspected the roof and area of concern, made a recommendation to correct the faulty design of where water run off drains to and made the repairs the same day. I tried to pay him for his service but he insists that he wants to monitor it when it rains, make sure the problem is corrected and once we are sure, we can take care of the payment. Nobody wants to have to call a roofer, 'cause it's no fun to have a leak and you just know your wallet will be lighter. HOWEVER, when you do find yourself in need of a leak repaired or to have your 3 story gutters cleaned, Roof-Life is the place to call. After our last heavy rain storm about two weeks ago, we noticed moisture around our fireplace. Mind you, this was about a week after a different roofer had charged us $450 for a temporary fix that he claimed would last 2-3 years. Well he and I must have a very different sense of time, because it lasted not at all. In a panic, I called my insurance company, who put me in touch with Tom Rhodes. What a difference! He was very busy because of all the rain, but he still got back to me within 48 hours. He came out and identified the problem on a Thursday, and by Monday morning he and his crew were on it. They were fast, efficient, cleaned up after themselves, and best of all, Tom (the owner) stayed there the entire time. You don't see that too often. Also, the price was reasonable. Back in January we decided to go solar and selected a contractor, but we first needed to get our old tile roof replaced. Our solar contractor recommended Roof-Life construction. I got a few different estimates and I liked how Roof-Life got back to me with an estimate relatively quickly and it was slightly less than the other estimate I got. Also Tom seemed very nice and personable. Things were pretty crazy at the time with all the frequent rains and some roofers weren't even getting back to me. We set up a time in the spring for the work to be done. Unfortunately the install date was pushed back a few times, but that was happening everywhere due to frequent rains. Finally an install date opened up early. The crew was on-time and very courteous as well. The install turned out great! I also liked how mid-install I was able to chat with Tom and the crew to add a couple vents above the garage for extra ventilation. A gutter along the garage was accidentally bent, but the crew made things right and informed me and then installed a new one. Update: Within a minute of posting this review, i get a call from Tom saying he has family emergency and that's why he couldn't get back to me. Again, i understand but someone from his office could have said that. But right after that he starts complaining that I was pushing him last year to go up on my roof when he had some health issues. Completely false, i asked him if he can come, he said yes and then didnt turn up and said he had health issues. I still went back to him this year just because he had a valid health issue, But after the rude call from him today, i guess i should have not. Tom: be transparent to your customers and tell them upfront if you cannot take new work or cannot respond rather than calling the minute you get a 1 star review So i called Tom last year for a broken gutter and some small part of my roof on the side hanging down and he said he can come by fix it Friday. I took the day off but come Friday he didn't show up. When I messaged him he told me he was undergoing recovery and would be out another week, and this was not something which had come up since we scheduled the appointment, it was before that. He had thought he would be fine by our appointment but that didn't happen which i completely understand and gave him the benefit of the doubt. Fast forward to last week when we saw a small leak in our roof. I called his office last Thursday and they told me someone will call back to schedule an appointment. When no one called back I texted Tom and he replied a day later saying he was out of town and will schedule something when he is back on Sunday. I called his office again on Monday afternoon and they said the same thing: someone will call to schedule an appointment. Sent him a text as well and didn't hear back at all. I don't know about the other 5 star reviews on here but my experience dealing with him so far has been subpar, Tom or his office doesn't even extend the basic courtesy to call back and schedule an appointment or just call back and say that they cannot accommodate me for whatever reasons they have. read more

Both Tom and Max and his roofing crew are very professional, friendly and conscientious. They cleaned up every night after working.
