It's small, cozy and decorated with fun signs and memorabilia. The staff are amazing, friendly, welcoming, and just the kind of people you want to see when you're about to dive into comfort food. Even at 1:30 pm, that in between lunch/dinner time, the place was steadily busy. And now I know why. The onion rings? Fantastic. I'm an onion ring snob and these were fresh, crispy, and legit. no frozen batter here, and none of that "pull the whole onion out in one bite" nonsense ( I hate that). It's not really a truck stop, but it is part of a convenience store at a Phillips 66 gas station. The only options for burgers in Waterloo near where we are, are either fast food or Denny's, Applebees, etc. It's a bit of a drive down Rte 3 to Red Bud, but if you want a very good burger at a reasonable price it's worth making the trip.
