I had HomeServe for a few years now, my wife purchased policy through an offer from SCG ( Southern California Gas), we had several electric repairs issues and HomeServe sent technician right away, Everytime the repairs were done correctly, both HomeServe and their technicians exhibited a great degree of professionalism. Last week we had a major leak in the water main connected to the water meter, they send Frassica Inc. a pluming company in Corona and got the job done the next day after the claim was approved. When i signed on it was with the understanding that if my water heat went they would cover ALL expenses, labor and parts and they are trying to make me pay an additional 800.00. I said I want the recorded conversations between the salesperson and I because they will show what I was told and I asked them about it repeatedly to make sure things were clear. They are lying and saying that is not what the terms state but a recorded contract trumps any written terms. No way would I have paid into this now for almost 6 years if I knew they were disreputable. You have to really really think twice before signing up. I signed up a few years ago and used it twice. Both repair was substandard. In my area, only 4 plumbers are part of their plan. So, as a customer, you have no choice. All their 4 plumbers have below average Yelp review. One even has 1 star with single digit reviews. First repair only lasted for 2 months. The second repair lasted for 1 second. I guess, this type of plan will give you "so-called" a piece of mind ONLY if it is a simple task. If it is a complicated task, like mine, involving pipes underground, I ended up paying out-of-pocket to hire another plumbing company in town ( not one of the 4 companies). It WAS the water heater and my homeowners insurance plumber already came out and confirmed the issue. this is crazy. you need to get your information correct when giving it to a client. I was told that the exhaust cleaning was covered and now you call and tell me its not. I told the service person the problem i was having and they told me what need to be done and it was covered by one of the policies I have with them. 2 guys came to the house unknowledgeable of the service that was supposed to be performed. They got her and said that they don't do what was called for/needed to be done. I then got a call from the company saying it wasn't covered. HORRIBLE!!! HomeServe sent an electrician, Morrison Electrical, to my home. The electrician could not fix the problem and caused additional damage to my breaker box. HomeServe told me that they are not responsible for any damages that is caused by their assigned contractor. I would reconsider using another warranty company. read more

Biggest scam company on the planet. Sells you a service contract and when you request a repair they find 47 reasons to tell you that your problem is not covered. Even though your contract clearly states that it is. They tell you someone will call you back but they never do. I had a contract on my gas boiler and when I requested service I was first told they didnt service that type of equipment. When I pointed out that was clearly in the contract I was told that particular part was not covered. When I showed them that the part was clearly stated as being covered in the contract I was told it was a pre-existing condition! I am currently filing a complaint with the BBB against these people. They are participating in consumer fraud. And judging by other comments this is not an isolated instance. Run as far away from these people as you possibly can! This company sells policies that cover things such as "Exterior Sewer/Septic Line(s)" or "Exterior Water Service Line(s)" via Home Emergency Insurance Services or HOMESERVE. The San Jose Water Company (SJW) markets these policies in San Jose CA via the water billing statement. DO NOT BUY POLICIES FROM THIS COMPANY! The policies are junk and are practically useless. I just found I had a leak in the water line between the water meter and the house. The pipe is an old galvanized service pipe, probable 30-50 years old (the house is 110 years old) and the leak was caused by rust and decay. With a pipe that old there is undoubtedly more than one leak. The entire pipe needed to be dug up and replaced. It would seem like a simple application of the insurance policy that I've been paying into for 2 years, but NO! The junk policy that HOMESERVE sells only covers the repair of the one leak! You have to have 3 leaks before they will replace about 30 feet of pipe! So according to the policy, you have to suffer 3 potentially damaging leaks before they actually repair the problem. So that means that you have to call for a repair each time, possibly wait days without water, and have your yard dug up 3 times before they will solve the problem. This is an insane approach to having insurance so don't waste your money. I had a plumbing service repair the entire line once and for all! HOMESERVE should be ashamed for making money marketing such a shabby rip-off. What's next on the list? Having some of the worst YELP reviews around? I have had a backup recently ( i have sewer coverage). When the tech showed up (3 hours after the promised window of 4 hours) the backup had cleared on its own but the flow was NOT gushing through ( as observed by the external cleanout about 15 ft from the wall of the house). This clearly suggested there was a blockage between my shower drain/toilet drain ( inside the house ) till the external cleanout. THe tech did nothing and said as no more complete backup they will not do anything. I got and external company to do a camera review and sure enough they have found a blockage externally. Now i called the company ( service provider) back and they said they do nothin until there is a complete backup even though there is a sewer block eternally. We have had gas line insurance through Homeserv for years and had to use it due to a gas leak at the meter. Gas company advised it was in our side of the meter. This was Friday night. Called Homeserv Saturday morning and was advised someone would be out that day. Called back at 6 that night. Was on hold 20 minutes until they hung up. Called back to be informed their contractor refused the job. Finally after numerous calls was told someone would be out on Tuesday No one showed. Then Was told on Wednesday between noon and 4. Left at 5:15 for a volleyball game. Came back at 8 to find two young me working on the meter. Had to borrow a shovel from us and then at 8:40 run to Menards for a pipe. Finally finished in the dark using flashlights. Was without hot water for 5 days. What a nightmare dealing with them waste of $5 a month all these years read more

This is a SHAM company. I bought an Exterior Waterline Repair policy. I called them because of low water pressure and 6 weeks later they still have not located my isolation valve outside so they could to run a fish tape thru the line to find the clog or if it's pinched. They won't dig to locate it. They say the water in the whole subdivision has to be turned off cause I'm on a community well. Well the subdivision won't turn the water off until a hole is dug. I have even emailed their CEO John Kitski twice. They are seriously deliberately messing with my head by talking circles around me. I have filed a complaint with my Attorney General and am probably going to take them to small claims court. If anyone knows how to file a class action, I'm in!!! I rate them -10 stars. I was double billed for 13 months or my water heater plan and it took weeks to get a refund, although I had proof with the double billing on my bills. It took several calls to get them to agree to the right amount ($129). they kept insisting that 13 months X $9.99 was $87.00. That was two months ago. I recently cancelled 3 plans with them, including Interior Electric. The other two were cancelled, but this month I was billed for the Interior Electric. When I called, billing confirmed that it had been cancelled and put in a request for a refund that will take up to 3 WEEKS to receive. I've had it with this company! Everything from backed-up plumbing to hvac repair, everything dealing with this company has been disastrous! I'm in South Carolina and it's presently around 95 degrees. I called in a work order for th HVAC 3 days ago and a rep came out the next day. He informed me that he would need a part and it should arrive by the next day. Surprise! It's 2 days later and my home is sweltering. This isn't an isolated instance. Last year my inside plumbing backed up. It obviousy wasn't a priority for them because they never repaired the issue. The phone rep informed me that there was no one available to do the repairs, BUT... I can hire a plumber and get reimbursed. Rather than wait for them to do what they're contracted to do, I hired a plumber. I'm still waiting on reimbursement. There is nothing posititve I can say about the interactions I've had with this company. Always excuses for not doing repairs. I've been with them for quite a few years, but I might as well look for alternatives. Everthing posted here are my experiences with this company and I stand by my comments. Sent me a fraudulent notice falsely stating that I had agreed to a service contract to be "conveniently charged" with my gas bill. They even included fake service agreement numbers. I never agreed to any service from HomeServe, and thankfully there is no charge for HomeServe on my gas bill. I am a plumbing contractor that has been trying to get some information verified before scheduling a job for one of HomeServe customer's. I have talked to at least 6 people, get transferred, no one can seem to help me. I finally was able to talk to someone in my area and she asked me why I was even involved in this job. We are not a vendor with HomeServe. She said that they have plumbers in this area. The first plumber that HS sent out gave this customer a bid that was 6 times higher than ours and then he never showed up to do the job. The next few would schedule appointments and never show up. This homeowner has been trying to get a leak repaired since October. We have provided a bid and ready to do the work but before doing so I want to verify that HS has any and all info regarding our company that they need, i.e. Certificate of Insurance, W-9, etc. Can not get an answer. I know that payment will never be made if the i's aren't dotted and the t's not crossed. I have left numerous messages with the gentleman that has been working with the homeowner. No response. I purchased 6 hours from Groupon, I get a text advising she would be here the full 6 hours. She arrived at 6 pm, I asked if she would be here till 12 she said no and that I would be credited back for whatever time she was not here. Instead, she cleaned for 4 hours and missed many spots/ did not even sweep / counters were not wiped down. she leaves with 2 hours remaining and then waits till the time she is supposed to leave to send a thank you text saying she has completed the work though she had left 2 hours prior. She is trying to say she worked for the entirety when this is not true. I have called customer service for a week, call says I would have someone return my call within 24-48 hours and it has been 5 days at this point and 3 calls have not been returned. We have a Homeserve contract for our boiler and hot water heater. This is an emergency service contract. Our hot water heater stopped working. First guy came out and said that we needed a part but they did not have it in stock. This is one of the largest hot water heater manufacturers in the country and they don't carry the part? So they ordered the part. They installed it on day 3. Next afternoon I smell gas. Gas company comes and shuts off valve to hot water heater and says it is leaking gas from the part that Homeserve just installed. Gas was leaking in to our house for 24 hours. in addition they shut gas off to boiler too which Homeserve maintains too. That is right 2 gas leaks in our home. Thank god I smelled the gas or we could all be dead. Now it is day 5 still no hot water. I don't expect hot water until at least day 7. If I called a plumber I would have had it repaired right within 24 hours. Never again. You would think if you make gas connections which is toxic and explosive you would ensure that the connection is not leaking. read more

After paying the service charge fee of $50. I was instructed that I will be contacted by contractor or by home serve on the next day for work to be done on AC unit. June 16th 6:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. no contact whatsoever from contractor or home serve. At this point I attempted numerous phone calls to home serve to get this issue resolved. Believe it or not, I spoke with 13 people from HomeServe to try to get them to fix a water leak that was supposed to be covered by their company. I had to get someone else to fix it after waiting for 5 days for one of their plumbers to come to my house. The first plumber they called never came out, even though the representative said he was on his way. The plumber who finally did come out didn't even look at the pipe but felt around and said it was not water pipes, it was the irrigation system. My irrigation guy came out and had his men dig until they found the problem. It was the water pipes, not the irrigation system. These people do not know what they are doing. Every time you call, you speak to a different person. Each person says they don't know anything about it but they are working on it. I purchased the 3 separate plumbing coverages offered. I am now on day 5 waiting for them to send a plumber to repair the leak in my water line from the meter to my house. The coverage is void if you find someone to do the work. I have called at least 6 times and am told each time they're trying very hard to find someone. One would assume they have providers in place to handle the plumbing issues reported by contract holders, many of which will be emergencies. The contract states they are not responsible for damages incurred by them not performing the duty of sending a plumber. I would never purchase anything from them again and may request the money back that I've paid them over the past few years for services they are incapable of providing when you need them. I have a premier heating servcie contract with Home Serve USA, Inc. (Home Serve) which recenlty assumed National Grid's home repair business. My premier contract provides for tune-ups of my furnace for which I pay an added fee to my yearly service contract. I made an appointment for a tune-up over one month ago. The appointment was for November 19th. On or about November 15th Home Serve called me to change the appointment to November 18th between 12 and 6 PM. After waiting 5 hours on November 18th, I called Home Serve at 5 PM and 6 PM to confrim the appointment. I was told on each occassion that a repair person would shortly arrive. At 8:30 PM on November 18th I called Home Serve and was told that my appointment was canceled and unilaterlly rescheduled for January 24th. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was refused. This is not only a material breach of the service contract but thoroughly unprofessional conduct. Do not do business with this company. read more
