The main floor of a big old house made into a bar. It's dark, looks like a bar but actually smelled nice like a home. At least when I have visited it smelled really nice. Standard local bar crowd with the regular fandoms stopping in. They of course have slots which have been brutal to me and my co-gambler. Prices are typical, they used to be cash only but I think now take cards but don't quote me on that. This bar is located in a house. It's a local dive bar full of regulars, but that being said everyone was very friendly to our table of outsiders. Beers are limited but cheap, no waitress you have to journey up to the bar, and go early if you want a table there are only a handful in the whole bar. The crowd was mixed, a couple twentysomethings and barstools full of patrons who could've been their parents. Overall it was a pleasant night. I can see why people are comfortable at this local watering hole, personally I need a little more space. read more

BUT, if you like a place that is clean and comfy, with an attentive bartender who will know your name and keep the drinks coming without draining your wallet, you need to check this place out. Honestly, for whatever kind of bar-goer you are, they fit the bill. They have plenty of seating, a fun shuffleboard set-up, a juke box, TVs to watch the game, and always a lot of friendly faces. Plus, if you are someone who cares about the businesses you patronize, then you will appreciate how wonderful the folks who own it are and all they do support their community. Lets not pretend that you had no idea what this place was going to be like based on its location (off the main roads in small suburb) or its general appearance (its a house, a landmark to be specific.) So now that you're being 'real,' don't get pissed off when they only have 5 beers on tap and 1 keg is dry. Don't get mad when the clients at the bar are on a 1st name basis - they've probably been coming there for longer than you've been alive. Lastly, don't get irate when you realize they don't do tabs or take credit cards - they know most of their clients and have developed the trust not to need tabs and they sure as heck don't advertise themselves out to the younger more boisterous crowd that would frequent the 95th street bars. If you're going to hang out at the Homestead, I suggest you ease into it. You're new, make some casual conversation, enjoy a beer, and then, one day, you'll be family. Seriously, its a fine place to have a few beers, but it is a little more inclusive than a casual passerby is probably used to. The service is mildly preferential, but c'mon, they're talking about the good ol days! In general, I know this place is intimidating, but if you're not up tight and can take a few licks, like cheap beer and want to play some shuffle board, try it. Also, just an fyi, sometimes people bring their dogs inside the bar, which is pretty awesome if you like dogs. I like dogs. read more

This place is wonderful. On my first visit was packed from a party and about to leave but Ryan the bartender managed to catch me for a beer and didn't take long before Dottie the owner and a good friend of hers was kind enough to engage with me and end up having very nice evening visiting with a great croud. The best service in oak lawn. Cold beer good people great bartenders and no issues . Always making home improvements . Good mix of older and younger crowds. A massive "home-like feeling" beer garden in the summer with bags and horseshoes. It's THE SPOT!!! read more

Great cozy spot... lots of history here. Super clean. Extremely disappointed that they for some reason did away with their famous burger. Took the wind out of my parents sails when they went there recently. The pizza is frozen and too thick for thin crust. Made me even sadder they stopped serving their burger the min reason that i went there last. read more

If you dont belong to their group, be ready to be treated like crap.Very dirty inside as well as the glassware for drinks. If you aren't one of their "regulars" stay away. They will make you feel VERY COMFORTABLE and then you'll end up leaving before your first drink is finished. Just go to another bar - spend your money wisely and not support this hole in the street. read more
