This place was perfect for our 4 days gateway to Yosemite, the drive is about one hour from here either way you take (east gate or south) but the trip is very much worthy, specially if you go via 140. The cottages are clean, peaceful, and relaxing. They offer a full kitchen with all cooking supply needs, minus the spices. The grounds are spectacular and serene with beautiful plants and birds all around. You can sit out on your front porch and gaze at the beautiful stars at night. The bed is firm, which isn't my favorite but I have slept well after having our bottle of wine! They are very attentive and stayed up to wait for our late arrival. Our stay at Homestead Cottages in May of 2024 was very nice. Located right outside Yosemite National Park, yet private and the cabin is well kept. We stayed in the "Stage Coach" which has a king bed, fireplace & nicely appointed kitchen and decorative tiling throughout. Outside one side of our cabin is a rosemary plant which made the stay even nicer. The owners are friendly, and responsive to our needs. read more

We had a great stay. The staff was very kind. I was worried that it would be cold, but the room was very warm, the bathroom was clean, and the warm water shower was great. It's a little far from Yosemite, but it's not a problem. The owner made it possible to charge the electric car for free. Thank you for that we were able to travel comfortably. I wish I had reviewed these comments before booking our family stay at this place. I would NOT recommend this place for several reasons. The only thing nice to say is that the location is isolated.... Which I thought I would somewhat like. Okay - here are my thoughts on this place. 1. From the looks of it, the place looks "clean"... but everything is super dusty. I accidentally knocked down this disgusting carpet thing that is hanging on the wall, and a plume of dust came off. Please for the love of all that is holy, get rid of anything that can keep dust. So unsanitary. There were several incidents like this, where the cleanliness was subpar. 2. Next, this place is SOOOOO far from Yosemite - so if this is your travel destination, I would recommend staying else where. For the price you pay here, you can stay at the Awanhee Hotel in Yosemite after all the fees, and extras they like charging here. 3. I had a child and an infant. The not so kind host, actually fairly rude woman host charged for my infant because she took up resources! How ridiculous.... So my infant cost $80 extra for her stay. My infant mind you, is still breastfeeding! So she did not get to "enjoy" the Costco breakfast. 4. Costco breakfast- yuk, everything comes in a box, nothing fresh.... Maybe they can add some Fresh fruit or something... we skipped it the next day to say the least. If you don't mind this quality for breakfast, there are so many other options.... Do not stay here. 5. Last but not least, I'm not a fan of their credit card policy. They hand write down all my credit card information plus the cvv code on the back, to get the remaining balance on the rooms. No one does that anymore...Protocol should be away from writing down any credit card information. So many things are electronic these days - so having my information exposed to anyone makes me very uncomfortable. If you do choose to stay here, don't say you weren't warned.... There are several others on here that have had equally sub par experiences here. I hope I save at least once family from the nightmare we had here. read more

Neat little cabin to stay in that is more secluded and less touristy than staying next to Yosemite. Laura and her husband were very nice and greeted us upon check-in and showed us around our cabin. We also appreciated the muffins/fruit left in our cabin each day. We packed these and took them on our hike to the park! It was also nice having an outside grill since we wanted to eat at the cabin and relax after a long day of exploring. My only complaints are: 1. The bed is hard and the pillows are extremely uncomfortable. 2. The creamer packs left in the coffee basket were all old and it was chunky. Enjoyed our stay! We might would like staying closer to the park next time though. To get to Yosemite Valley from the cabin took us almost 2 hours. read more

I booked on hotels tonight and when I checked in the manager asked me how many guest I had. I said my wife, 2 month old baby and 2 year old son. She said she would have to charge extra for 4 occupants. I asked her "So you charge for a 2 year old and newborn" ?? and she said yes that was their policy. I requested to speak to the owner and was told I could not for whatever reason. I've stayed at over 100 hotels and never have they charged me for my newborn or toddler. It was very upsetting to hear because I drove 6hrs to visit Yosemite and just needed a place to stay. I didn't see it anywhere on the app to input newborns or children. I didn't think it was fair to charge extra for the children since they were so young so I declined to stay. read more

Let's start with something positive, since I only have single star to give them, that too only for cleanliness. Yes, I am giving them single star since our room was well cleaned and get very fresh as well. We made reservation through Expedia and paid over $400 for 2 nights stay. When we made reservation, we were under the impression that we will be getting a cottage with some privacy and some outdoor place to sit and relax. I was highly disappointed upon check in since our "Air-BnB" was upstairs the office/ registration. Yes, I am calling it Airbnb since it was just a room with furnished kitchen and non working gas/stove. After the reservation was done via Expedia, I did receive an email with pic of cottage, but it wasn't something I was promised during reservation. There was no place for us to sit outside, there was no patio or door or even a window with a view. This was highly disappointing. I did spoke with the owner at the property and all I was suggested is to call Expedia. We check in with a 5 year old. During reservation, we notice they provide roll away bed for no charge, upon arrival we were forced to pay additional charge for roll away bed for 5 year old. Our plan was to visit Yosemite and relax by the property since it has got some great views. Upon checkin we were so disappointed that we decided to change our plan and just come back to sleep. Attached here are the pictures of the window we had in our room and another picture of the place at the backside of the property to sit. At last I would like to say, I tried to clarify things during my stay both with the owner and son and each time rather than fixing the situation, I was suggested to pay more and upgrade. Highly disappointed and definitely not coming back or refer anyone as well. read more

Found this place on Yelp first, then cross referenced with expedia. It was really pretty. The setting was super romantic, little tiny houses that were private and separated by trees. Imagine 6-8 little houses and you get your own, oh yeah they're called cottages ;). I spotted a deer on the property thought it was a fake rushed it and it ran away, it was real! There is a grocery store about 10 minutes away so you can buy stuff to cook. They have an outside bbq you can use too! My only annoyance was that the fan in our room squeaked, but I can deal. I'm hardcore like that. Whoever was answering the phone was very very nice, and helped us find the place when the gps sent a few miles off course. It's about 30mins-1hr from hiking in Yosemite. read more

Awesome cottages. We six friends stayed at this beautiful place, while we visited Yosemite Valley. We were really impressed by the cleanliness, service⁠. The care taker Laura⁠⁠⁠⁠ is very helpful and nice person. She also helped us finding good near by locations to visit. Cindy and Larry are very nice eventhough my hubby and I were check in late because of the traffic, they still come to office to assist my hubby and I. We booked the Star Gazing Cottage at the Homestead. It was our anniversary weekend and wanted to go to Yosemite and have a nice quiet place to return to at the end of the day. Larry and Cindy, the owners, we're very nice and helpful, and extremely knowledgeable about the area. The room was nice and big with everything we needed for the weekend, and the road they are on is picturesque, with the perfect balance of remoteness and closeness to Oakhurst. I definitely recommend the Homestead cottages if you're looking for something quiet, with privacy, about 30 minutes outside Yosemite's south entrance. read more

If you are looking for something cozy and private, this is the place to stay! This place is like a Bed and Breakfast with individual cottages. Each unit is beautifully equipped with kitchens and a huge array of cooking utensils. (Including wine glasses.) The bedrooms are separate, good sized bathrooms and the whole thing is nicely tied in with a western themed living room with a gas fireplace. The service was great, some light breakfast type supplies are provided and you can save a bundle by cooking at "home" after a day of exploring the trails of Yosemite and beyond. (Although we discovered Woody's New Orleans West in Oakhurst and we gladly parted with the idea of cooking at home a couple nights in favor of their incredible authentic cuisine!) Everything is very clean and well appointed. Cell phone service is spotty but your laptop will work for the free included wifi. read more

Hubby and I decided to spend July 4th weekend hiking in beautiful Yosemite National Park. We booked with Homestead Cottages because of all the amazing Yelp and Expedia reviews and we are so glad we did! We stayed in the Garden cottage, which was very lovely and romantic. The place and grounds are well taken care of and we especially enjoyed the breakfast -- amazing muffins, granola, milk and fresh OJ. The cottages are not too far off from Yosemite - approximately 40 minutes by car; longer depending on what trails you want to do. It was so nice to come back after a day of hiking and exploring to a warm, cozy cottage, sit by the fire place and snuggle up to watch a movie or read. The best part about our stay were our interactions with Larry, who was very welcoming - we briefly met Cindy when we left and she was very nice as well. In short, highly recommend even if Yosemite is not a destination. We'd also recommend a nice dinner at the Narrow Gauge restaurant! A quick note/tip: The tap water is not drinkable so fill up at the park or bring your own. The cottages have a bottle of drinking water in the fridge stocked but you might want more. read more

This is a great place if you're looking for peace and quiet. The cabins are cute--VERY VERY VERY CLEAN! The attention to detail is there, and that's important. The cabins are very large---definitely comfortable--and equipped with everything you need. My boyfriend and I sat outside, had wine, played cards, listened to music--and it was so peaceful being in that space. The reason I give it a 4 is simply because the bed, we found--was a little hard or too small. We didn't sleep all that well as a result of that. Also, they don't provide a full breakfast---just give you a muffin, some granola and fruit. It would be nice to have some hot options like a traditional bed and breakfast. The area itself is not very colorful--just the nature of the landscape in California. I missed seeing some colorful plants or flowers--which would give the exterior a boost in color. We absolutely loved our stay at the garden cottage. This place is nicely decorated, cozy, secluded and a perfect getaway from the city life. We had everything we needed it in the cottage it felt immediately like home. We also felt safe despite the COVID19 situation, as we had the entire cottage to ourselves without having to share any facility with others. And the free breakfast is also to-go style, so we could enjoy the breakfast at the lovely porch. Service and communication is also great - we highly recommend this place! read more

Cozy and quiet B&B with wonderful view! We took a vacation with another family arriving at this cottage in the President Day weekend! Even this was a last minute reservation, we still got lucky to get a cozy and quiet two bedroom cottage with an attractive rate. The spacious room was probably recently upgraded with everything new and clean. Two families had each own bathrooms and kids enjoyed playing indoor and climbing the backdoor hill. Variety of breakfast food was supplied and we got an option to pick our own favorites and quantity one night before. The fridge was filled with milk, juice and water everyday. Yosemite park access is certainly not far. Instructed by the manager, walking away the cottages, we did have a good time jumping around and picnic on the black and shiny rocks over the Fresno River. Second time staying at the Homestead. It is as good as ever. New owners took over in 2015 with new inn keepers. Laura was absolutely fabulous. The cottages itself are great and small. Very private with parking in front of the cottage. Selection of books available in each cottage. Direct TV package with HBO. Breakfast placed in the cottage contains muffins, fruit, granola, milk & OJ. Few bottles of water are kept in the fridge. Its a 45 mins drive to the park, keep in mind that the South entrance can get clogged up at the pay booth. On Saturday it took 1 hour to cover the last 1 mile to the park entrance. City of Oakhurst is 6 miles way and you get everything there VONS, CVS, RALEYS etc. Will keep coming back. read more

We have been long time visitors. We enjoyed our weekends at The Homestead at least two times a year. We always stayed in the Garden Cottage and used Oakhurst as a getaway to outings in Yosemite. Cindy and Larry were always incredible hosts. They recently sold The Homestead to an offsite couple who then hired "caretakers" to oversee the property. Such an amazing loss in services. We could not believe the difference in care. There was no key available upon our late afternoon arrival because, they said, they were busy cleaning ONE cottage. I wonder what they will do this summer when all of the cottages are rented? Our cottage was missing dishes and the oven did not work. I usually cook on these trips but I couldn't this time. There was no soap in the bathroom. No shampoo either, something Cindy and Larry always provided. The volume on the TV didn't work and when questioned the caretakers said they didn't know how to fix that. Muffins were always provided. They were much smaller than previous visits and one had what appeared to be a bite taken out of it. Truly disgusting. A recycling bin was always provided and we made use of it. We religiously recycle at home. The recycling bin is no longer provided. Walter (one of the caretakers) saw us 2 - 3 times over our two day stay and never once said a word to us. Very very inhospitable. The previous owners and their staff were always very friendly, welcoming and hospitable. Not so anymore. This review is offered as constructive criticism from a couple who has been visiting The Homestead for over 15 years. Tucked away about 90 minutes from Yosemite Valley, but very close to Bass lake is this cute cottage. Great place to get away with your family. The staff is nice and very hospitable. This is the place to stay when you want to get away from the city. Kitchen has everything you need. Separated cottages makes it quiet since there are no shared walls. read more

What a wonderful place! An absolutely immaculate and serene location. Don't expect to hear much in the way of plane, trains and automobiles... or ringing cellphones! Cindy and Larry are terrific hosts. If the nights are clear, make a plan to watch the stars. Especially if you are from the city. Nice horse stalls are available. We took our horses for two nights. We did not have to feed, water or clean!! The stalls are also kept immaculate. They are also located away from the cottages. Trailer parking is well planned... It was an incredible experience to spend 3 day long weekend with 3 other couples. The two bedroom cottage can be shared by two families and big enough to be used as a base for the gathered together events like all the meals(breakfast, lunch and dinner), and the game playing in the night. Each cottage is so cleaned and tastefully decorated in a very rustic way. There is a golf course in the surrounding area, and the walk around it is quite pleasant with creek and water fall from the distant mountain. We went visiting "blossom trail" in the Fresno area as well. The scenery is so beautiful, and it is the best kept secret in Fresco. read more

These cottages are a great place to relax and enjoy the quiet beauty of Oakhurst and Yosemite. The rooms are cute without being kitschy, with a well-stocked kitchen, comfortable bed, and fireplace. The highlight for me was the giant soaking tub - I recommend asking for one of the cottages with this rather than a shower. Be sure to stock up on your favorite bath salts or bubbles before you come. This would be perfect for a romantic getaway or even a solo adventure if you (like me) are in desperate need of some R and R. It's about a 45 minute drive to Yosemite if you're interested in doing some hiking. The owners are great to chat with but also give you plenty of space to relax on your own. We came to the cottages again during the president's day weekend, while the whole California seems to be pouring, here amazingly we saw sunshine. During the day we drove to Fresno and toured the famous blossom/fruit trails, took beautiful pictures; at night we played cards and board games in the cottages. I live on the same road that homestead cottages is on, so it was very convenient for my mom to stay there when she visited me. That is initially why we chose for her to stay there. We were both very pleased with the place. Beautiful and immaculate cottage nicely decorated. Very quiet. The caretakers are very friendly and accommodating. The grounds are very clean and nicely kept. The price is fair for what you get. I feel very comfortable recommending this establishment to anyone. It's not nestled in the woods. It is off of Road 600, but there is so little traffic that far down the road that it doesn't matter. Road cyclists could easily hop on their bike on road 600 and ride to the historic town of Raymond and back for a days' ride. It's about 15 minutes to the town of Oakhurst from there. Approximately 1.5 hours Dr. to Yosemite Valley from the Homestead. The only negative is that there is not cell phone service there. They do provide a house phone for calls, but it's not in the cottages. read more

We found this place through Expedia and felt in love soon after we arrived. The owner, Cindy was very nice and gave us a big warm welcome. The cottage was sooo charming. It has a living room with fire place, a little kitchen with full amenities, cozy bedroom with a specious bathroom. They even provided milk/orange juicy/water/muffin/fruits as continental breakfast. There is BBQ grill outside for the guests to use. This place is at a very quiet area with 15 minutes to Oakhurst. There are many restaurants (including fast food), super market (Von's, Raleys), drugs store (CVS and Ride Aid), Starbucks, Jamba Juicy and a movie theather in Oakhurst. Wish we can stay longer. Will definitely come back again. It's best to stay at least three days to enjoy this charming cottage and explore the surrounding area. read more

If you're going to Yosemite you must stay here. It's located about about 20 montes outside the south side entrance to the park so it's convenient. Larry and Cindy (who own the property) are more than accommodating. They're so sweet and do their absolute best to make sure everything is perfect. Their cabins are spotless and have everything. They also provide muffins, snacks, fresh squeezed orange juice and water bottles at no extra cost. The apple muffins are the best muffins I've ever had ever. We chose the Homestead after reading all the positive reviews--and we're glad we did! Tucked back off the main road to Yosemite, we booked a 3-nite Anniversary stay in the most adorable, private, tranquil and lovely 1-bdrm cottage we've ever had the pleasure to stay in! The cottage itself was beautifully decorated, had a full kitchen, large bedroom, and a very spacious living room equipped with romantic fireplace! The grounds were as spectacular as well. We walked the property taking pictures as a deer ran by....We were also very impressed by the hospitality of the owners, Cindy & Larry. When we couldn't get the TV to work, Larry was over in minutes. It was like a little home away from home...beautiful, comfortable and exactly what we were looking for! Thank you Cindy & Larry for making our 15th Anniversary perfect in every way! I'd recommend the Homestead in a second--and can't wait to return to Yosemite again just to stay in this quaint little Bed & Breakfast! read more
