The store is very large and from what I can tell set up in different departments. It is nice to get someone to tag along with you to lead you around to where you should be looking. I like that there are a lot of model of kitchens, bathrooms, etc so that you can really see the tiles in full effect and paired with other tiles and accessories. Great experience. In fact, Breanne, one of DGIs friendly and knowledgeable designers, pulled samples to save us time! That service was not a fluke. We returned to the store the next day, and Breanne was not scheduled. We were connected with another charming and helpful designer, Jeri Lynn. She spent at least 30 minutes with us, patiently giving us the info we needed. My sense is that DeGraff understands that caring builds loyalty. I wish we could do business with them, but our builder buys direct from Shaw and Daltile. DeGraff and their staff are a class act.

Later, I learned from a scheduler that it would take 3 days. It actually took 4 full days. Next, the Vice President called and asked me, the payer, to drive across town to the HWC facility on the south side and bring him, the payee, a sample sheet of the tiles that would be used on my backsplash so he could determine which grout would be best to use. I grudgingly told him I would be 2 miles from his store on Plainfield the next day and would leave them there. I subsequently received a call from a female employee saying the tiles needed to be brought to the Porter store, 9.5 miles away, because there would be no one available to take them at the Plainfield location. The Plainfield store was, in fact, open, but I drove to the Porter location and had to contend with a street closing and then detour around a traffic accident. On the day the tradesperson arrived at my home to begin the work he took out a hand-held tray of grout samples and had been told to have me choose which one I wanted! I paid for and provided construction booties that I asked all the trades people to use when walking on the laminate floor or, especially, my beige carpeting if they chose not to take off their boots. I ended up disposing of 47 unused pairs of booties. Those that were used were only worn once or twice inside and then outside the house! On the first day tarps, which were provided by HWC and were filthy with dirt and paint chips were placed on the floor "for protection." On the second and following days I provided tarps of my own and had a worker remove theirs. After the last worker left I spent over 4 hours cleaning my tiny kitchen and removing scuff marks from my laminate floor. The faucet that was installed leaked the first time I used it, so the next day I sent HWC an email including a photo to find out about their warranty. I spoke to the Operations Manager and was told, "There is a 12 month warranty, however there should be no leak so I will forward this to production so we can get that taken care of quickly. Someone should be reaching out to you soon." 4 hours later I received an email from the Vice President asking if it was a new faucet, which it is, or used that his plumber installed. His response was, "Looking at the photos you provided it looks like the faucet itself is leaking, not the connections made by our plumber. If it is a new faucet I'm sure the manufacturer will warranty it, but typically not the charge for the plumber to install the new one. If it is your used faucet, that would be your responsibility. Either way you would be responsible for the plumbing service call. Let me know how I can help." How can you help, REALLY! The guy isn't even a licensed plumber and made his determination from a photo! As a show of good will on the day after the job was concluded he could at least have had his plumber check it in person. This is an HWC warranty? I'd been sitting on an estimate for patio doors and kitchen windows from another company, because I wanted to gauge the quality of HWC's work. I would never use HWC again.

Forget things we picked out and would substitute without checking. Nice people, but it has been pure hell. We began working with Ryan and initially were very pleased. He was knowledgeable and responsive during the selection process. The moment we put our deposit down everything changed. The first of many problems began before demo. We confirmed everything multiple times prior to our start date, and Ryan did not order a portion of the material. There was zero communication between trades, so the sub contractors showed up and ripped up flooring that wasn't supposed to be removed. Ryan took zero responsibility for poor project management throughout the job resulting in countless issues. A layer of subfloor that had been nailed down was removed, and the nail holes were not filled before pouring leveling compound that leaked ALL OVER our unfinished basement. We didn't realize it right away, and by the time we noticed it was dried onto our furniture, clothes, and kids toys that were being stored in the basement. Ryan claimed to have never seen this in all the years he's been in flooring and even blamed our builder for leaving "gaps" allowing the leaks... We called our builder, who eventually diagnosed the issue correctly. The sub contractors were mostly professional, (aside from being obviously high when returning from breaks). Like an idiot, I paid in full when asked, and Ryan has since taken 4+ months to complete a number of small punch list items. Our project began in December 21, it's now July 22 and still incomplete. I am generally happy with the install of the flooring and carpet, but the finishes look cheap and messy (door and wall trim, edges, wall repair). I'm embarrassed with myself for paying in full, and now I can't really go back to request things be redone to our liking. We are reasonable people, and did our best to work through the countless issues with CFI, but I feel obligated to caution anyone who is taking on a flooring project not to use this company. Work with a builder, or do your research and get references before spending 30K plus only to be disappointed. We are now planning to spend an additional 10K with our builder to have all of the crappy finishes repaired. Should have done it right the first time. Hope this helps somebody!!

Although we paid our contractor for flooring, the flooring was not fully installed. According to Complete Flooring our contractor never paid them for the flooring. According to Michigan lien law, home owners are protected from paying twice in instances like these. Complete Flooring apparently disagrees with Michigan Law and has inappropriately filed a lien on my house and demanding we pay twice for our flooring. On 8/17/17, the 17th Circuit Court in Kent County ordered the removal of the illegal lien against my house. Furthermore, on 9/22/17 the same court ordered Complete Flooring to pay me for "actual attorney fees" that I incurred in order to have the illegal lien removed. I still question why this company would go after another victim in this horrific crime that had over $100,000 stolen from them. Based on their questionable business ethics with me, I do not recommend using this company.

So CAUTION, if you get any type of plank flooring, expect it to sound like they have lined the floor with sand or plastic bags when you walk around, because according to Flooring America, that is NORMAL??? I'm so bummed we spent so much money on flooring and just as much on installation for an install that is sub par and no one at the company cares.
