I have driven by this place dozens of times since moving to the area and we finally visited. Man, I was missing out! Smokey's is some legit BBQ! It is cash only and even has a sign available for when they run out of that day's barbecue. The pulled pork was perfect and my wife and kids enjoyed their platter of brisket and pulled pork. Traditional sides include homemade coleslaw, baked beans, rolls and potatoes. Everything was fresh and delicious! I also enjoyed a cup of their brisket vegetable soup with my pulled pork sandwich. The sauce options were equally good, including sweet BBQ, hot mustard, mild sauce and hot sauce. Also loved seeing a sign from Kid Rock's visit declaring the "best little grub shack this side of Detroit." Tonight was "Cigar Night," which was obvious as soon as you opened the door. Fine with me, and I might have joined them if they took credit cards. I only had a modest amount of cash and I wanted to be sure I didn't overspend on a Macanudo or Cohiba, then have to raid the ATM to pay my dinner tab. Special of the evening was a Chicken Philly. Made to order, it was hot, fresh and HUGE. Which is not to say I didn't eat every bite because I did! Washed it back with a bottled beer (of which they have plenty). I believe I was the only non-local because everyone else was talking amongst each other. The owners/bartender/cook were very attentive and made me feel at home so I wouldn't let not being a local scare you away. The food and drink were excellent and reasonably priced. My husband and I both had the Jeff plate with two meats and two sides plus cornbread. We both had the pulled pork and brisket. I had the loaded mashed potatoes and a side salad. The salad was super fresh. The brisket and pork were very tender and juicy. The portion size was large and I took most of my pork and mashed potatoes home. And the cornbread. Oh was it yummy. We are from Georgia where bbq is a big deal and this rivaled any bbq we have had in Georgia. Our server, Sarah, was amazing. She gave great recommendations and checked on us often. We will definitely be back. And for us it is a 40 minute drive. Well worth the drive.
