We came in here based on a recommendation from a friend. Oh my goodness, was it amazing. We started with a triple berry margarita. Full of flavor and so good we both had two. My husband and I both had the Jeff plate with two meats and two sides plus cornbread. We both had the pulled pork and brisket. I had the loaded mashed potatoes and a side salad. The salad was super fresh. The brisket and pork were very tender and juicy. The portion size was large and I took most of my pork and mashed potatoes home. And the cornbread. Oh was it yummy. We are from Georgia where bbq is a big deal and this rivaled any bbq we have had in Georgia. Our server, Sarah, was amazing. She gave great recommendations and checked on us often. We will definitely be back. And for us it is a 40 minute drive. Well worth the drive. read more

Food tasted amazing! Wasn't sure what to expect, since I hadn't heard of Indiana BBQ, but it was so good. The jalapeño cornbread was so delicious, had a little kick but not too much. The coleslaw also had broccoli and Brussels in it, which was much better than regular goopy slaw. The macaroni and cheese had the perfect amount of cayenne pepper and black pepper to give it a little kick as well. Knocking off one star because my sour beer was supposed to be topped with whipped cream and Captain crunch cereal and strawberries but instead I got a green beer- still tasted great but wasn't as advertised. We tried to give them a chance--multiple times. The changes made in 2023 would make you think there is a new owner or something. The identity that was once great, affordable food in the local neighborhood has come and gone. We used to love going to Jefferson, but now the prices have gone up, the quality of food has gone down, the customer service is inadequate, and the menu has been obsolete. I ordered a Jeff Plate, formerly The Jefferson Plate. It was $6 more than what it was a year ago. I received the portion that did not measure up to what I was led to believe I'd receive. After asking if the plate was truly what I should expect from this new plate (photo below), I was told yes--it measures out; how one single rib measures out is beyond me. We came here to eat on a Saturday afternoon for a work event. We called ahead and made reservations. I think calling ahead of time helped out a lot because our server was only helping our tables. The service was TOP NOTCH! Again, I say that because I think it helped that we told them how many people would be coming so they were able to staff appropriately for the day. My husband and I split the Mississinewa which comes with 4 meats and 4 sides. We chose the brisket, wings, pulled pork, ribs, double the mac n' cheese, baked beans, and the jalapeno cornbread. My favorite out of the meal was definitely the baked beans and the wings! Wow they were so good! My only complaint with the meal was the mac n' cheese. It was VERY watery (almost like a soup). Excellent menu, the salads are wonderful,my favorite is the Blu Wedge. It is scrumptious!!! I usually get the brisket and my husband gets the chicken. It is always top notch. The meatloaf looks delicious, that will be the next dish we try. Their white chicken chili was so so fo me, needs more spice. Cornbread was ok. The baked beans are really good also. The Coleslaw was suited more for my husband, it was more vinegar based. They have a nice selection on the menu for beer and mixed drinks are available. With such amazing food and a "farm to table" focus, Jefferson St. BBQ has all the pieces to be a success in a big city with lots of competition. In a small town like Converse, this place outpaces all of the other food and has become the place to be on week nights and even weekends. The recent expansion nearly doubled seating capacity, so the wait time has decreased. The staff is so nice and eager to talk you through anything on the menu. You can't go wrong with the brisket. It's the best I've ever had. Looking for a slightly lighter meal? Brisket on the Cobb salad is solid. And big. I couldn't finish all of mine. The full bar makes for a great list of specialty cocktails and had just about everything you'd need in a small town + more. I wish I came through Converse more often. And I may have to make the special trip just for Jefferson St. BBQ! read more

I'm going to separate this review as I think it's needed. Food 5 stars - delicious! Everything I've tried has been absolutely amazing. I've never had anything that I didn't love which is why I continue continue to come back. Operations: 2 stars - don't plan to go after 7pm. They're out of most meats. Twice they've been out of ribs at 7. Once I ordered online and their app says you can order delivery and shows the fees for over $25 but when you go to checkout it says you have to spend $200 minimum. When you order your food online, don't feel like you're guaranteed what you ordered. We've gone to pick it up and been told they're out of a meat so we have to wait another 20 minutes to get a different choice prepared. In person - very nice staff read more

There was 4 of us. Place was fairly busy. Closed at 8. Our service was so so. Took forever to get our drinks. Never really felt like they were very attentive. Our drinks were sitting on bar well and bartender never bothered to bring them to us. Directly across from the bar which had no one at. Food was cold. I had nachos with brisket. It was cold. Been here several times and it's generally packed, at least around prime meal times. Everything is locally sourced and/or made in-house, which is nice. The barbecue is generally good, although it's occasionally dried out which is why I'm giving them 4-stars instead of 5. My parents like the loaded baked potatoes topped with pulled pork, my wife likes the nachos, also topped with pulled pork, and I typically get the two-meat combo with beef brisket and baby back ribs. For dessert they have crème brûlée, different flavors of cheesecake, and bread pudding. I ordered the latter on my latest visit and it was great! It's made with raisins, served in a sizzling hot cast iron skillet, and drizzled with bourbon sauce. My mom didn't care for the cloves they baked it with, but the rest of us enjoyed it. My friends and I drove through several cornfields to get to the tiny town of Converse, but boy were we in for a treat! The three of us split the Mississinewa, which comes with four smoked meats and four sides of your choice. Our picks: -ribs (fabulous) -pulled pork (outstanding - this was the group favorite) -brisket (very good) -chicken wings (good but would probably not order again) -mac 'n cheese (simple yet tasty) -green beans (classic preparation) -applesauce (delightfully cinnamon-y) -chili (cheesy and hearty) The entire meal made for an excellent lunch, and I will gladly return for a second helping of ribs as well as try the smoked sausage and cornbread. Jefferson Street BBQ was a pleasant surprise as we decided on Converse as our lunch stop during a road trip to northern Indiana. I have to give a shout-out to Yelp Elite Joanna B. as her review really sealed the deal on leading our stomachs to this place! They had several meat options and with there being three of us dying to try a little bit of everything, we easily decided on their Mississinewa option. This provided us with an array of meats and sides that we were able to choose from a delicious list. So what did we choose? Oh, all the good stuff, of course. We had some pulled pork, ribs, brisket, chicken wings, green beans, mac 'n cheese, chili and applesauce. ALL AMAZING. Seriously, everything was great and I wouldn't hesitate to do a repeat of that exact meal. It was just what we needed to fuel us for our long drive ahead. I was really disappointed with my meal. The mac & cheese was so terrible it was runny and very watery. All my food wasn't even warm some of it was cold. Years ago this was one the best restaurants in town now it's just a joke and it sucks really really bad unfortunately. I definitely don't recommend that all unless you get nachos. Walk up to the counter and order from a selection of meats and delicious homemade sides and pick from a large selection of drinks including beer and wine. Find a seat and your food will be delivered to your table in a jiffy! The biggest perk is that it is open Sunday afternoons, one of the few places in Converse where you can get a good meal on Sunday. My coworkers and I were doing some work in Convoy, Indiana, and we decided to stop by this locally well known BBQ joint. Service was prompt, and one of the first things you notice about this place is that most of the women working here are unbelievably good looking. Not sure what that's all about. But anyway, I had two pulled pork tacos. They were very good, and came topped with pickled onions and a very delightful ranch/chipotle type of sauce. The table BBQ sauces come in Spicy or Sweet. I had the Spicy. My only suggestion would be to use a homemade flour tortilla. It's more work, but it would really make the taco stand apart from all the others out there. Let me be real with you here: this place is GOOD. Like at least 4 Star barbecue. You can tell everything is homemade. The meats are House-smoked, and their sides are perfectly complementary. We have been coming here since the beginning. Before their larger menus. Before the expansion. Before they served alcohol, even. We even had them cater our rehearsal dinner because we were so "in love" with the barbecue. However, recently we've felt they've been getting a little too "big for britches." Their service is not that great. The service always seems frazzled, they get frustrated too easily and they forget things easily. Over the last few times we've been there, we got sat with a random party (literally at the same table) and have had horrid service the rest of the time, BUT the food is good, so we keep coming back. Today, things changed. We made reservations because they are normally booked over Friday & Saturday nights. They are ALWAYS sold out of things. It's typically just sausage or wings, but tonight it was RIBS and PULLED PORK. How are you out of that? That's not something you run out of. Those are you basic foods at a BARBECUE restaurant. To top it all off, we had people come from my hometown (2 hours away!!) come into town JUST to eat there, so it was really disappointing. We understand that Jefferson Street has gotten so big i our "small town" that our measly review doesn't matter, but we have eaten at restaurants all over the state. I highly recommend skipping Jefferson Street and hitting up a barbecue chain like Famous Dave's in Noblesville or something better in Ft Wayne or Indy.
