We stopped here for lunch and coffee while visiting the area over the weekend with our kiddos. First off, the location is unbeatable, a stone's throw from the canal, very-pedestrian area with lots of cute shops and restaurants surrounding. Their menu was just what we needed - a mix of salads, sandwiches and pizza alongside baked goods and coffee. We opted for the Greek Salad, Margherita pizza and a chicken pesto sandwich along with some coffee drinks. Oh, and I caved and picked up a Scotcheroo for nostalgia's sake ;) I really loved how nutritious the salad was - feta, quinoa, carrots, hummus, etc. All were great and it was a positive experience. I love the other locations, the food and drinks are amazing, but it's impossible to come to this one! Wait times are way too long, and it's difficult trying to come in with a stroller, so I can't even imagine how bad it would be if you're in a wheelchair. If you're having to wait in line outside, not even inside the building, you need to retrain your staff, or hire more people, because as the winter season approaches waiting 15 minutes just to simply order will not be acceptable, not doable for most who just want a cup of coffee and go. The large crowds have ruined my favorite coffee shop. read more

We visited Light Rail fir the first time today. I was immediately impressed by the atmosphere. The restaurant was very busy, which is a good sign. There is seating outside on the covered porch, which looks like a very nice place to visit with friends for coffee or a meal. Since this is our first time here the cashier was helpful in pointing out a few choice menu items for us. She then took our order, rang us up, and gave us a number to identify our table. They bring the food out to you. I ordered the Cobb salad. It was delicious!! It had a fair amount of grilled chicken, as well as other ingredients. I like that the lettuce was a variety of mixed greens, rather than just iceberg lettuce. The flavor of the dressing complimented the salad very well. One can clearly see why this restaurant was so busy!!! Good food, friendly service, and a pleasant atmosphere. The only problem with how busy it was is the loudness of everyone talking. But that's part of the social gathering nature of a good restaurant. We will return! There are more menu items I'd like to try, especially the pizza!! read more

Light Rail has become so disappointing. I live in the Winona Lake community and will not go to Light Rail anymore due to inconsistent poor coffee and overall attitude of this place. I miss how it used to be and it has changed for the worse. My job deals with people in the community and I hear the same thoughts from others. Light Rail, listen up! You are missing out on business! Thank goodness Three Crowns has opened in Winona Lake, there is hope for a coffee place with upbeat people and great coffee. Service was extremely disappointing- decent espresso but whom I assumed was the owner made every thing run extremely slow. Her staff were behind her watching as she moved at a snails pace- if you want to socialize let your team do their job and walk away from the line. genuinely the best iced vanilla oat latte i've ever had (and i'm from coffee california). so well priced, and they don't charge extra for milk substitutes! we also got their cinnamon roll and it was SO GOOD. i got a sourdough breakfast sandwhich and it wasn't my favorite because the butter made the bread a little greasy, but overall had an amazing experience. the wait took a little while but it was a saturday am, monday was much faster! read more

Light Rail is one of my favorite places in Winona Lake. They have a great lunch menu and excellent hot and iced coffee. While most recently I had the Smoking Goose Ham and Swiss sandwich, I typically order the Goat Pizza which is to die for. The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating which is great to utilize during the warmer months in Indiana (April-September). It can get a little busy indoors with lots of local students using the cafe as a study spot, however, you can usually always find a spot. This was a great quick lunch spot after a morning on the boat. This restaurant is in the village on lake Winona. I got the garden salad which for a basic garden salad had great ingredients. This was a very nice coffee shop. Nice atmosphere for reading, or meeting friends. The coffee was very good. I had wanted a hot beverage but they had made a cold one for me. They were very kind when I told them that I had wanted a hot latte. No worries, they said with a smile, and fixed me the one that I wanted.
