Oh my god... PIZZA (in the form of a calzone) has never been so sweet. I love you my Hometown Pizza, LOVE. I can't get enough of those calzones - oh, the cheese and butter on the top, with the perfect amount of bread, and inside ingredients. I always get the Italian, or steak and cheese... I am in agony every time I have to decide which one to get. I have lived in big cities, medium-sized cities, traveled several cities throughout the world, and have yet to find a better calzone. The pizza - it's pretty damn good too, but there's nothing better than that sweet and succulent calzone. If only I could have it delivered in Portland. It was a cold, blustery Wednesday... My husband and I drove from Ann Arbor to Brooklyn to see some friends-- who ordered 2 pizzas from Hometown Pizza upon our arrival. OH MY GOODNESS, this pizza is my new Michigan JAM! The pizza is on the doughy side-- which is so soft and decadent! The toppings are fresh and tasty, and I love their crust. Stopped in for lunch the other day, lured in partly by their menu offering "calzones." Being an Italian-American jersey boy, I'd yearned for the taste of home: a pizza folded over itself and fried or baked with everything inside. For a point of reference, I ordered the "pizza" calzone, you know, sauce, cheeses, pepperoni, ham and onions. Wow, the sauce (which we call "gravy" in my part of Jersey) was great. So was the crust---baked, crisp and tasty with a liberal dusting of parmesan on top. Two improvements needed: (1) the ingredients must be evenly distributed within the calzone (rather than all the pepperoni on one side) and (2) enjoying the thing with flimsy plastic utensils proved tricky. Otherwise, the place inside shows original highway 12 architecture: exposed brick walls, metal ceilings and large windows bringing in Clinton's downtown admirable brick buildings. My lunch date ordered the BBQ chicken salad (small---which was huge, feeds 1-2) and pronounced it one of the best. Even the "muzz" (mozerella) tasted creamy and fresh, rather than caked with anti-caking agents. Overall, nice. Yep, I'm a fan of this place. Incidentally, I had planned on trying Basil Boys in Tecumseh, however their menu offers calzone with one word underneath it "stromboli." Jersey folk know the difference. I opted for Clinton since I had to see if their calzone indeed was the real thing. Yep it was. read more

When they say large, they mean gigantic. Lots of food for the price. The BBQ chicken salad was so delicious that I didn't need the dressing. A large sub filled my teenaged boy up (a feat that is rarely accomplished). The pizza and breadsticks were delicious. Didn't have anything but the pizza, but it was excellent. Crust was a medium thickness, great texture, just salty enough. Tomato sauce was not too sweet. The pricing (two pizzas at a bargain price) was the icing on the cake. The sad thing is that we stopped by on a day trip; it's about 25 miles from home so I foresee myself pining away for this without an easy way to get it regularly. I am a local. It seems EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. there is something wrong for the prices we are being charged. Whether it's super burnt cheese and steak on a sub, or not the desired amount of veggies we are being charged for, or very rude managers (Ashlyn or Macy) Clinton has ONE delivery place, I tip very well too, a $25 dinner should at least be edible and respectful customer service.
