We have been to Raterman a few times and have loved everything we have tried. Once we discovered their stuffed sour dough twists, I dream of them throughout the week, knowing that they only make these on Saturdays...the olive and caramelized onion is to die for! Also love the cheddar oregano, especially how the cheddar around the edges gets so crispy and delicious. There is always a line, but it moves fast and is well worth the wait! read more

Yummy, high quality sandwiches! We tried the Turkey & Brie (which was really loaded up and sauced with mayo and a sage vinaigrette) and an Italian. The bread was standout! Loved that you could get food here and then sit next door with it in Erratic ales. We washed down our sandwiches with beers. Also got a side salad for only $2 that was a good amount of fresh dressed greens and veggies! Didn't try the pizza this time, but next time definitely will! read more

BIG FAN. HUGE. EVERYTHING IS ACES! Let me back up. Raterman Bread Haus, for those only seeing this for the first time through my review, is a bakery and restaurant next to Erratic Ale Company tucked just off the main drag of downtown Dexter. They specialize in sourdough, selling bread by the loaf in their storefront as well as food to order for carry out. You can also dine in during the warmer months via the outdoor seating they share with Erratic Ale. We came in on a Saturday late afternoon in late May. The day was gorgeous so we made a plan to sit outside. I wanted a pizza, my husband wanted a sandwich. The pizza could easily be split amongst two people so my husband offered to skip the sandwich so we could split a pie instead. I figured I wouldn't be mad about leftover pizza so I told him to get the sandwich and so that we did. I also grabbed a loaf of their rosemary sourdough bread to take home. Placed our order with the very friendly clerk who gave us a buzzer to let us know when our pizza would be ready. They didn't have a ton by way of beverage options so we went next door to Erratic Ale and got a couple of pina colada refreshers (non alcoholic) and I got a cold brew for after. The pizza? OMG SO SO good. I went with the pear and gorgonzola, with arugula and added smoked bacon to it. Perfection. The sourdough crust? Excellent. My husband got the tempeh reuben and he also raved. The pie is also huge so I was able to take most of it home and it reheated in my toaster oven beautifully. My only quibble is I could have used more gorgonzola but I'm a blue cheese junkie so I can never get enough. The patio is lovely and every table has an umbrella so you can enjoy yourself comfortably. It's also dog friendly and they have a bin of toys/sidewalk chalk to help keep the kiddos occupied, too. If you bring your dog, make sure you have them take a picture of your pup with their polaroid camera to add to their wall 'o dogs! read more

This is one of the best pizzas I've ever had. The crust is amazing, the toppings are of the highest quality. It takes a bit to make a pizza so I'd suggest ordering ahead online. The service is always fantastic. The person at the register is exceptionally kind and welcoming. Patient and friendly. The inside is tiny and there is usually a queue. Raterman next to Erratic ale is a pair made in heaven. Order a pizza or sandwich from Raterman, enjoy a pint while you wait, or while you eat. There is no indoor seating for Raterman however there is a patio at both Erratic and Raterman to enjoy your food. No table service. You are given a pager for when your food is ready. Now on to the bread - I took home the regular sourdough sliced and was blown away that this bread was good and fresh on my counter for 5 days. The bread is so tasty, we were choosing toast with jam for snack over anything else we had in the kitchen. Simply incredible. I just wish they had better hours. An amazing super-cool (trendy) spot for foodies and those who simply appreciate great bread. This is tucked away in what looks like a boring business spot but is filled with delights. I had the Reuben and took a couple loaves of bread and some pretzels with me. The sandwich was fine (not overstuffed like what you get with Reuben's elsewhere these days) and came with homemade corn (tortilla) chips which were okay. The multigrain loaf zi took home was absolute best I could imagine. The pretzels were more like rolls than what I am used to. I cannot wait to go back for another loaf of bread. Pizza was thin like a cracker and way over cooked.... The cheese had disappeared into the crust... impossible to Chew. The first time I went it was ok....so I ordered 6 pizzas for a birthday party OMG, so bad and burnt, I placed an order to jets because no one could eat them..... We have tried the grilled cheese, Reuben, and many different pizzas by now. They've all been great. Sourdough pizza crust is a revelation. The salami, olive, and onion is a favorite, as is bacon, mushroom and goat cheese. Try one, try them all. You can't go wrong. They're all delicious. read more

If you don't have any reason to go to Dexter, make Raterman's the reason. Located right next to Erratic Ale Co, Raterman's has an amazing menu filled with sandwiches, amazing pizza, and fresh baked bread to go. You are able to order and take food over to Erratic or sit in the shared space outdoors. There is also a small seating area in Raterman's, as well. They piqued my interest because of the many vegan options that they offered and I wasn't disappointed. I got the pear and feta vegan pizza and it was freaking good. I'll be sure to get out to Dexter more often! read more

Our group ordered several items on the menu including pretzels, Reuben, BLT, vegan and non-vegan pizzas, and they were all delicious. The only constructive comment that I heard is that they would have preferred the BLT have toasted bread. The sourdough crust on the pizza had a hint of sour dough taste and not too chewy like some pizza crusts can be. I chose the tahini sauce on the chicken pecan grain bowl, and everything was fresh and delish. A refreshing change from the traditional salad. The Reuben was fresh and filling, and the BLT had crisp strips of bacon coming out of the sandwich. Most importantly, our guest are vegan and lactose intolerant, so the numerous vegan options were why we chose Raterman's for our meeting place. Thankfully a couple in our group had been there before and knew that you could sit in the adjoining brewery, Erratic Ale. A sign explaining the seating situation at both establishments would be very helpful to know that they allow seating from Raterman's. read more

My wife and I have eaten here at least a dozen times. The first 8-10 times we liked it. The last 4 visits have been equally TERRIBLE. A synopsis of the last 4 visits: About 5-6 weeks ago went then there. We ordered a pizza, paid, and when I checked-in an hour last it was not in the oven... and they were not even sure I had ordered a pizza. I showed my receipt, was given a different pager, and 30 minutes later our Pepperoni and mushroom pizza was ready... and it was not very good. About 3 weeks ago we went there with our adult kids. Their pizzas came out fine. Our pizza came out...WRONG. They eventually made us another pizza... but the timing was wrong as we ate akone. About 2 weeks ago we went there. Once again our pizza was forgotten. WTF!?!?!? Last week my wife and I went there one more time. Upon ordering we were told that pizza was taking an hour and given pager #10. Okay, not a problem We ordered 2 beers next door, and happily set outside and chatted. About 50 minutes later I checked-in with the front desk, and was assured that our pizza was in the oven and would be ready soon. Okay, we waited. About 25 minutes later our beeper had not made a sound, so I checked-in again. Our luke-warm pizza was at the front desk waiting for us in a box... and I was not happy. When I opened the box, the pizza was greasy and gross... the box was sopping with oil and the cheese was a bit curdled. DISGUSTING!!! Did I mention is not only terribly slow but also TERRIBLE? I will not be back in the near future! Perhaps EVER! There are too many good pizza places around to over pay for this crap service and lousy pizza. read more
