TERRIBLE! I should have listened to my neighbors and associates that said negative things about this clinic but didn't because I wanted more of a holistic, integrated Veterinarian then traditional Vets. TwinkleBelles and I arrived on time for our 3:50 appointment but I have a new cell phone which wasn't dialing so I went to knock on door. They spent 5 minutes telling me first that if my cell phone doesn't work that it's not a good time to have an appointment (I can't say I've ever heard of the requirement of having a cell phone as a prerequisite to making a veterinarian appointment). Then they went into that they're concerned about getting their payment if my cell phone isn't working. I told them that they can collect payment at my car or I'll give them my Care credit card. I finally got the cell phone to make a call in and they told me they'd be right out to get my dog. As I'm sitting there in my car with my dog somebody comes out to pick her up and at the same time my phone rings and it's someone inside telling me that the doctor doesn't want to deal with my dog because she's terribly backed up already and we are late for appointment. I explained that I was not late but I was sitting out in front and trying to dial in since 3:48 and I was unable to and at 3:53 went up and knocked on the door. That's 3 minutes late. My car was parked right smack in front of the door where they could obviously see me. Finally, at 3:59, they told me that I need to take my dog somewhere else. They said, "You've cancelled appointments before and now we've wasted precious minutes". Weeks ago I made an appointment for a meet and greet to establish a new veterinarian with this clinic. When I found out that was curbside drop off service I canceled the appointment because it made no sense to have a meet and greet appointment where I'm not going to meeting and greeting the vet so I canceled it the day before when I realized that it was drive by service. The appointment that I was supposed to have today was a bit more urgent in that my little dog has developed a hernia so I wanted to have it looked at even though I'm not a fan of curbside service. I'm sooooo glad this happened! It is truly a blessing in disguise as if they would treat a new patient on the very first appointment in this manner you can just imagine how they would treat the patient after you're at their mercy for care or treatment. I really got a creepy feeling about that place today. To treat someone so crappy and unprofessionally at the very first visit is just beyond any scope of comprehension. That is absolutely indicative of the type of care that one would receive in the future. I'm quite dismayed but I really am not in complete shock because I was forewarned by other individuals. I just didn't believe what they had said is all but now I do having had a most negative experience for myself. Lesson learned is trust your neighbors and associates. read more

My pup is having chronic ear infections and I decided it was time for a change. I contacted this vet and was told one price for switching to them as our primary care vet to have this looked at. I went through transferring records and had to work around their interesting office schedule to get an appointment. Did all of that, was told the price ahead of time and things were finalized. I got an email letting me know the doctor had reviewed my pups records and that now the fee was higher. I'm sorry, I agreed to a price and now that the wheels are in motion you tell me something else. Not a great experience to say the least. Not a great way to serve your community especially during COVID times. Super disappointed, this is so close to home for us. read more

It truly breaks my heart to write this review. Dr Mitchell was truly gracious when we brought our yellow lab to her in March 2016 following a Grand Mal Seizure. It was our first visit to the clinic & she made time to schedule an hour long consultation for the next day. In April 2016, our lab had another Grand Mal Seizure in the late afternoon. I called the office & was told that there was no doctor in & recommended calling Golf Rose Animal Hospital. My dogs seizure developed into Status Epilepticus & sadly he passed away early the next morning. Dr Mitchell called me the next morning & expressed her condolences. It was a very kind gesture. We got a new rescue dog in September. Our dog developed a mass on his lower abdomen. Since I really liked Dr Mitchell, I contacted the office for an appointment. I was told that the "Consultation Coordinator" was the only one who could schedule the appointment. I was also told that we could bring the medical records with us to his appointment since I don't have access to a fax machine. I waited the majority of the next day for a return call but gave up & called myself. The "Consultation Coordinator" said that I needed to fax the records in because Dr Mitchell looks at them & will decide if she can help our pet. I said that I spoke to someone yesterday & could have started the process going on getting the records to them. I was told that since she's the "Consultation Coordinator", she's the one who tells us if we need to send the records, no one else is authorized to make that decision. I commented that we didn't need to send the records in advance of our previous appointment with our late pet. I received a call back from the coordinator saying that Dr Mitchell wanted to review our dogs records because of the mass on his abdomen. I was advised that Dr Mitchell was booked several weeks out. I was then told that Dr Mitchell was booked for 6 months out & I should contact Whole Pet Vets. She asked if I wanted the phone number. I said, "no thanks" & ended my call. I'm very sad that this wonderful Dr, who was so good with our previous dog, did not want to see our new dog. Interestingly, we are in the shopping center where the vet's office is located, several times a week. I've never seen people in the lobby. After my dogs visit in March 2016, there was a gentleman with a dog waiting in the lobby. Aside from that, I haven't seen anyone in he office. Sorry this is so long. I wanted to explain what happened very clearly because I'm very fond of Dr Mitchell & really loved how she cared for our late dog. I would have hoped to not be brushed off since we were an existing customer. I guess it doesn't pay to be loyal to someone. I'd go running back there. A huge scam. The staff is highly unprofessional and overcharges for simple check-ups. The second you walk in, it's like walking into a world of micro-transactions where you are even charged a substantial amount of extra money for the syringe needle that the vet must dispose of. No one returns calls, even after saying that they will call right back. I had my dog going here for a few weeks but it soon lost its charm and I'm much happier at my new vet. There are far better vet offices in the area that I recommend going to rather than this place. read more

You can't seriously look at that review below and think, wow, that's really informative, I won't go there. NO... I have to say. We've been with this hospital for the past 10 years. I have NEVER had a bad experience with the place. Dr Mitchell has ALWAYS been amazing with my dogs. I've never seen someone so good with animals. Ever. On one occasion, my sweet little Boston was stung by about 8 bees. EIGHT. I called right away, asked if I could come in (my dog was seriously fading) and they said to come in right away. No questions or delays. Nothin. Came in, they took care of her right away. I would even say they saved her life. They said she was lucky to be alive because of how small she is. Another occasion. Same dog. The poor thing jumped off our couch and hurt her back. Same deal. Called right away, said we might have to wait 10 minutes. But that was fine and it wasn't even 10 minutes we waited. They treated her so well there you wouldn't believe it. I completely vouch for this place. Nicest nurses and vets over there. I could go on and on about other pet scares where knollwood came to the rescue but I won't. Trust me. They're great! read more

Today was the first day I brought my shorkie in for an evaluation due to his chronic skin infections and allergies. First of, I am extremely impressed by how knowledgeble Dr. Mitchel is, she spent almost 3 hours with me today going over his condition and different options as far as what should/ can be done to improve his health and assured me we will get him better. We were referred to Dr. M by our primary vet due to our dog's cancer progression. He had 4 rounds of chemo and surgery and it just kept spreading. Let me start by saying that until 6pm tonight, I was actually pretty happy bringing my 2 dogs to Dr Mitchell. I thought she was a little weird, but appeared to truly care about my animals. Now I realize all that caring and patience must all be an act because the side I saw today was exactly the opposite. Last week, I took my 9 month old female puppy in to the vet due to what I suspected to be a UTI. They asked me to bring in a urine sample, and I did at that time. When we saw the Dr, she checked out the puppy, and commented that she was "nowhere near her first heat", and then diagnosed a severe bladder infection. We were given antibiotics and told to come back in 10 days for a recheck. No issues. A couple days later, she started bleeding. Being that I had just been told she wouldn't be going into heat soon, I was concerned and called the office. I didn't receive a call back for several hours, so I called again and at that time was told that she likely went into heat. (If you have been following along, you might at this point be as confused as I was to hear that). I replied that literally 2 days earlier I was told she wouldn't be going into heat, and was then told it must have been brought on by all the poking around they did during her exam... I know I'm not a vet, but, really??? Anyway, even if I didn't buy the explanation, I was happy to know that my dog was not in any medical danger and let it go. At that time, I made the appointment for her follow up. Today was that follow up, and it was a DISASTER. I was waiting in the exam room, and the nurse came in as they always do, then said she was going to take my dog to collect urine. I wondered at that point why I wasn't asked to bring in another sample as i had the first time, and was a little annoyed that now I would have to pay for them to retrieve it. That turned out to be the least of my concerns... for almost 10 minutes I could clearly hear them with my dog and were obviously having difficulty. My dog was crying and I could hear her heavily panting, so I know she was in distress. During this time, I also heard Dr Mitchell no less than 3 times ask the nurse/technician if that dog had ever been here for nails before. Every time the nurse replied that this was Sasha for urine. There goes the ridiculous notion I had that this Dr really remembered my animals. Apparently she just reads the chart and fakes it before walking into the exam room to make you feel like she cares. Good Act. After several more minutes, the exam door opens, and my dog runs to me and hides between my legs. Let me take this moment to say that this is a dog who loves everyone, and has never ever acted that way. Then the tech started to ask me if I could take her out and try to have her go in a container. At that point, I replied, "why didn't anyone tell me you needed a urine sample for this follow up, all of this could've been avoided". The tech was confused (she isn't someone I had ever spoken to in the past), and went to check the computer. I think she replied something like it says I was there for a urine recheck, and I said I only knew I was there for a follow up, but didn't realize a sample was needed. Suddenly, the door flies open, and Dr M spits out at me very harshly that she "specifically remembers telling me personally that a urine sample was needed". OK, the same person who within a span of a few minutes I overheard forget my dogs name 3 times can clearly recall telling me something almost 2wks ago.. yeah, sure! I said I didn't recall that and that maybe we should do this another day because my dog was upset. She said fine, if I wanted to reschedule give them a call, or if I wanted my records sent elsewhere, she was happy to do that too. Then she stormed out and SLAMMED the door behind her. Are you kidding me??? I question what is apparently a misunderstanding and suddenly I'm being told I can take my business elsewhere??? Needless to say, at that point I was nothing less than furious. I opened that door back up and admittedly raised my voice a bit and said that just because I had a question was no reason to be that way and who did she think she was??? She responded by telling me to leave or she was calling the police. Keep in mind folks, this was a very short exchange, and nothing hostile had happened - yet here we are threatening to call the police. WOW. I turned and opened the door to enter the waiting room and leave. As I was walking toward the exit, not even saying anything, just shaking my head at the craziness of all of this, I must not have been moving fast enough, because then she came up behind me and started physically pushing me out and saying if I didn't leave that second she would call the police. I did leave, but should've stayed at let her call them because of the two of us, I was one who had hands put on me. Obviously I won't be back, and wouldn't wish anyone to go through what I did today either. read more

Dr. Mitchell is great! My kitty was very sick with FIP (a fatal disease to kitties) and she did everything she could to help her. I felt the prices were fair and was warned of anything that would be high in price before I approved of the test being done. When we did have to put the kitten down they were very accommodating and empathetic. I could not have asked for a better vet to work with during this sad time. Dr. Mitchell's knowledge is extensive and she is willing to explain things to you without feeling like you are being rushed out at all. I truly felt like I was their only patient while there. She recommended books for our son about losing a pet and then when we came back with our other kitty was kind to ask how we were doing with the loss of our previous cat. She also gave logical recommendations of what to look for in another cat as we are looking to adopt one again. I have not one negative thing to say and this is our new vet for all of our pets going forward! read more

Dr. Mitchell has been the veterinarian for my kitties for a number of years. I wouldn't think of taking them anywhere else. She is compassionate, skilled, and feels like a good friend of my fur family. I was there yesterday to have my oldest cat euthanized. It was very obvious that everyone there understood how I felt. Dr. Mitchell was especially reassuring that it was exactly the right decision and allowed me as much time as I needed to say my goodbyes. Tomorrow I will be taking my boys in for a senior checkup. My beloved dog Lolla had a hard time walking and was admitted to Purdue Vet Clinic on March 26 for MRI and IVDD surgery. Unfortunately during MRI was discovered that she has 3 tumors inside her spine. One of them is very large and wrapped around her spinal cord, so surgery is not an option. She us only 8 years old and median age for shit-tzu is 14. She is in pain and walks only with a harness, but she still eats a lot and loves to go outside and does her business outside, so I have a hard time to put her down at this point. I turned to holistic therapies and was trying to find a holistic vet who could help me to manage her pain and make her life as comfortable as we can. Since I live 10 min away from Dr. Mitchell and she has a decent reviews I decided to call to schedule my appointment. I called and explained urgency of my situation. Unfortunately the person on the other side was agitated and unpleasant. She almost kept yelling to me that I have to fill form online andand they have to get referral from my vet and records from them and records from Purdue. I tried to explain that I will talk to my vet to send a referral and fill form on line , but I have all the records from Perdue and my vet printed at home, so it makes much more sense if I could drop them off instead wasting time to get them. But the woman on the other side was still rude telling me with a raised voice that I am not understanding their procedures and I have to follow them. She said it would be probably weeks before my dog has an appointment and there is nothing she can do about it. She also mentioned that they had a water damage in their office and they currently closed for at least 2 days, so she shouldn't be even talking to me. It sounded like she was stressed out with all that situation ( probably had to call lots of people and change their appointments) and she took it out on me. That's not the way of treating your potential client specially a person with dying dog who is seeking just some help. Well I thought okay maybe that lady had a bad day( we all have them) and filled a form online twice just to make sure they got it. It says online that the team coordinator will call within 7 day. Well 12 days later nobody even bother to call. It's says on their website that they care about every animal and you can visit them for tour and cup of tea, but they can't even e-mail back to a person who tries really hard to find someone relive for a dog in pain. The review below mine definitely helped me decide to give this place a shot. I have driven by it several times and frequent the Fortune House Chinese Restaurant in the same strip mall (see my review on them because they are also fantastic), but only recently adopted a kitten and needed a primary care vet for him. Honestly, it's a little creepy from a distance as it's just labeled as "PET HOSPITAL" next to "BOB AND PEG'S DENTAL", but I am still glad I found Mary B's review. Now onto my own experience. Phoning in to set up an appointment was very easy - the assistant was friendly and thought our kitten had the best name (he's named after Master Tonberry from Final Fantasy 7 - if she only knew what kind of character the REAL Master Tonberry was, tsk tsk...) Thankfully, they had an opening about two hours after I called so it was also very prompt. I arrive a little early to handle paperwork and even after that, I still had to wait for fifteen minutes after the scheduled time so I deducted a star (NOTE: it would be half a star if that were possible though). She offered me tea and when I declined and asked for water for Master Tonberry, she provided me a bowl with clean water which he happily drank. The exam room was available and the technician was straight-forward and addressed all my concerns; because it was a new patient general check-up, that meant it required a temperature and of course, those are not pleasant for animals. After finally getting the reading after three tries with him squirming and crying in my arms, the technician left to actually get Tonberry treats to reward him - I think he ate half the bag. Then it was onto cleaning MT's ear, which the tech agreed may be something to be worried about considering how much buildup there was. Doctor Niznik came in and we discussed MT's different issues - she was very knowledgeable and offered options in treatment while complimenting MT's behavior and physical appearance. While talking, the tech returned to inform me that the test came back and MT had ear mites, which meant ear drops treatments. We discussed a course of action and she prescribed medication in hopes of the sneezing not being a permanent feature of our kitty's behavior. The tech came back in with the assistance of a nurse to clean MT's ears for no charge before demonstrating how to apply drops twice daily to get rid of the ear mites. Check out went smoothly and initially I was told an exam alone would be $78, so because I had two sets of medications and a lab test on the ear discharge, I expected it to be quite expensive - on the contrary as it only ended up being about $50 more plus they are open on MLK Day, which is technically a holiday, so I was able to make a follow-up appointment with no issues. All in all, very knowledgeable and friendly staff, convenient location for us, no real hassle, and reasonably priced for services. One thing I would recommend is if maybe some sort of guidelines on pricing on their website just to give customers an idea - I know our doctors do not necessarily do the same, but with insurance I could understand that fluctuating; our pets do not have that misfortune (that I know of...) so it would help to get an idea on what costs would be for a visit. Otherwise, I am pleasantly satisfied with the overall service and am actually looking forward to returning in a few weeks, though I'm sure Master T is not. read more

I adopted my miniature dachshund a little over a year ago and we had quickly saw a vet in the area at another office who we liked. When I called this year to make his yearly exam appointment, I found out that he had left that office. I knew when I started looking for a new vet that I needed someone open minded that understood holistic supplements and treatments, and spent more than a couple minutes with my dog when examined. I struck out at the first vet I saw, who barely glanced at my dog before telling me he was fine and then tries to sell me every vaccine and crappy dog food they could. I immediately started researching new veterinarians when I got home, and thanks to Yelp I found Dr. Mitchell here at Knollwood. She spent a lot of time with Tucker, learning about him and how I care for him. She figured out what vaccines actually made sense to give Tucker, and we discussed food (she never tried to sell me anything!) and supplements. Fast forward to now, and my little guy is having back issues. We got in to see the doctor ASAP and are on a treatment plan, which includes laser therapy that their office does twice a week on my dog. Every single employee there is kind, intelligent, and helpful. I love our laser tech, who is kind and patient with both the dog. I am a crazy dachshund lady and everyone there puts up with me, my questions, and they do so with a smile. I'm glad I found Dr. Mitchell and her team to care for my dog. read more

The combination of Holisitic and traditional veterinary medicine has kept our senior dog, a caner patiesn, healthy and happy for over a year after her diagnosis with a very aggressive type of cancer. I was referred to Knollwood to treat my Cat who is having several issues. I was so excited to make an appointment with them as I heard the Dr. really cares and gets to the bottom of issues your animal may have. I called to make an appointment by the time I got off of the phone I felt so defeated, angry and utterly frustrated. They would not make an appointment said you need a referral from a former Vet to go here, does not say that on the website and is so frustrating. If you have time to jump through hoops to get an appointment for your animal then call but they were so rude and made this call into something it did not have to be, I have NEVER experienced anything like this making an appointment to help my animals. they couldn't even help explain why this was necessary. If you want to switch to a new vet, you have that right you don't need a referral. Just like if you go to a new Dr. you don't need permission. read more

Knollwood is incredible, and I highly recommend them to my friends and neighbors. I can assure you that my cats receive better health care than I do because they go to Knollwood. Dr. Mitchell is amazing. Not only does she clearly love each one of her patients, but she also keeps up to date on all the medical veterinarian breakthroughs. Dr. Mitchell's practice emails a COVID form out to all her scheduled appts which is great, but there is a section asking about questions, comments, and concerns so I wrote "curbside vet appointments are inappropriate." She proceeds to call me while I am sitting in the car in front of the clinic and starts yelling at me to keep my opinions to myself. I stated multiple times that I don't want to argue and she has the choice to take that section what people write into consideration or not. She continues to shout at me about the CDC guidelines which I am familiar with since I work in the medical field and tells me that she has the luxury to not come into contact with people. There was a point of silence because I was shocked this is how she treats her patients' owners. Then she has the nerve to tell me that she declines to see my pet because I keep arguing with her. If anyone is looking for a normal vet appointment then contact Glendale Animal Hospital. They give the option for normal vet appointment, obviously with a mask on, or if you don't feel comfortable coming inside then the person has the option to do a curbside appointment. She and her staff have helped our family care for two femaie cats that we adopted from a farmer, and found when we brought them to Dr. Mitchell that not just one, but both were pregnant. Dr. Mitchell answered all of our questions and helped us through challenges with having two litters of kittens born close together in our little home. We were new to cat ownership and had no clue how to care for kittens. One of the cats had trouble with the delivery since she was so young and tiny. Dr. Mitchell took the mother and kitten in on an emergency visit and saved their lives. We love our new cats and kittens. You'll not find a kinder or more experienced, knowledgeable veterinarian. Having recently moved to the area without an establish vet yet, my 2 rabbits developed health issues within a few days of each other. 1 with sore hocks and the other a severe case of GI stasis. Without having seen them before, she examined them thoroughly and treated them quickly and so compassionately. She took the time to talk me through each case, possible causes, the treatment needed, and tips to prevent future recurrences. With COVID preventing me from being present during the appointments, I could tell from the way she spoke about both of my rabbits that she is very knowledgeable in rabbit care, took her time and genuinely cared for them, and wanted the best for their health. I was very impressed with the care we received at Knollwood Hospital for Pets and am so grateful for her service-as I thought my rabbit is GI stasis would not make it through. Dr. Mitchell is the most dedicated veterinarian that I've ever known. My dogs are like my children and when it comes to their care I will accept only the VERY best. This is what I get at Knollwood Hospital for pets. Dr. Mitchell has been in the business a long time and is extremely experienced, both in traditional and integrative care. I trust her advice and her team. I would not bring my pets anywhere else. If you're looking for a new vet, give this place serious consideration. I was going here for years. Dr Mitchell has great knowledge and experience. However her staff and professionalism is lacking greatly. I called numerous times about a follow up question for my pet and she ignored my calls for 2 weeks to finally call me and inform me that she was severing ties... I love Dr. Mitchell I have been taking my fur babies to see her for about 10 years now. She always goes above and beyond to answer all of my questions. I am the type of person that wants to know how this happened, why this happened and what we need to do next to either prevent or stop whatever it might be that is wrong with my fur babies. Dr. Mitchell is always full of suggestions and doesn't not push the "pill fix" if something else could be done which I appreciate. They use natural homeopathic medicine, chiropractic, acupuncture and laser therapy I am a fan of all of the above!!! As I am myself using more of the natural ways to get healthy I am also glad I can provide that for my babies. My kitty especially is a crazy jumper and she jumps 6feet in the air!! Needless to say sometimes she doesn't make it so chiropractic adjustments for her are a frequent occurrence and she is ready to concur the world. Any one looking for the best Vet for their pets should see Dr. Mitchell!!! She also continues to go to seminars and keeps on educating herself on the new ways of helping animals. I find that most vets after they graduate stop learning and are just stuck on doing things one way. Recently I had to take my second kitty to a different vet as Knollwood was closed that day and what a different experience that was. This vet took 5min in the room and ignored most of my questions even when I asked for suggestions of what to do after visit. Definitely makes me appreciate what Dr. Mitchell does more!!!! read more

I rescued a black lab mix because the previous owners couldn't figure out what was wrong with this poor guy. He was the sweetest dog, but they were out of solutions and were going to put him down. His skin looked horrible. Missing patches of fur all around his eyes, his legs, he was a mess! I began down the traditional route, with an allergy test at my old vet. I soon began to realize that this traditional approach was going nowhere- full of meds to mask the symptoms. We needed to get to the root cause. And in comes Dr. Mitchell. My dog bonded immediately with her (who wouldn't?) and she got to the root cause very quickly. She put him on a great regimen utilizing both traditional and holistic methods and it did the trick! He does have seasonal issues, but she has taught me how to prepare for them so that they do not have the opportunity to become worse and cause more complications. I can't say enough about her. She is truly a gem and her passion for knowledge and compassion shines through. I wouldn't take him anywhere else! read more

This place is much overpriced. I do not doubt Dr. Mitchell's knowledge and dedication, but the prices are over the top. My dog was ill; he was vomiting and had nose discharge. I took him to Knollwood Hospital, and Dr. Mitchell examined him. She decided on the treatment immediately, which is fine, but she should have informed me of the cost before that. She administered antibiotic with a shot, because according to her this way the medication would act faster than an oral antibiotic. I am sure she was right about that, but she failed to mention that the shot costs a lot more than the oral medication. She took a sample of the nose discharge and said that she would look it up under the microscope and tell me what it was. Looking it up under the microscope was an additional charge, but unfortunately, she did not tell me what she discovered during this test. I left after paying almost $350 for the visit and I did not know what the illness was. Nobody bothered to explain to me. The bad thing is that my dog's symptoms continued and he got worse. I called back the clinic and I was told that further tests would be needed for a correct diagnosis including a scan of the head. We were talking about tests and treatments costing thousands of dollars. I decided to take my dog to another vet in Elgin. I couldn't be happier. The doctor in Elgin diagnosed the symptoms right away without any expensive tests or devices. It turned out that my dog had Aspergillosis - a rare and very dangerous fungus in the nose. If left untreated, your pet can easily die. Treatment is very expensive if you decide to do nasal infusion in a special hospital. Our new doctor recommended trying a more affordable treatment with an oral medication, which was proven to be effective if the fungus was detected at an early stage. He took a sample of the discharge from deep inside the nose and submitted it to a professional lab. They confirmed that this was the fungus he suspected. We completed a 4 months treatment with oral medication and our dog survived. I am hoping that the fungus would not come back. However, my point is that I did not feel pressed like I did at Knollwood. At Elgin Animal Clinic all suggested treatments were explained to me in detail including the cost of each of them before the staff took any action. I had the opposite and entirely unpleasant experience at Knollwood. Everything was done and I was presented the bill. Both the doctor and the staff have a condescending attitude and I feel that money is their only concern. Everything costs more at Knollwood, including vaccines. Maybe, I would have been okay with the higher prices, if the service was worth it. read more
