The super short magic carpet elevator on the bunny hill.
    Jeremy D.

Homewood has beautiful views of the Lake, their staff are friendly, it wasn't crowded like other resorts, and they provide frequent updates to their snow levels. So why 2 stars? Well, from a beginner point of view it was not an ideal experience. Had I known Homewood had mostly difficult and intermediate runs, I would have never purchased the 1-2-3 lessons, equipments, and lifts for my family of seven from Homewood. Their instructors were nice and knowledgeable and spaced out the lessons. The problem is that they have a very short Magic carpet to learn on. So practicing on a short run is not as helpful since we quickly graduated from that bunny hill and our instructor encouraged us to go on the lifts to the next level. Unfortunately, the next level up was the lift up the mountain to the "easy/beginner" runs. Half of those runs felt intermediate and narrow to the point that we found ourselves and others walking down the mountain, off the path and into the difficult degree down the mountain, using the snowboard as a sled, or just crying like my 13 year old daughter who really tried for several hours to control her board. I'm unsure who rated the runs but these are not for the "beginner" snowboarder or skier. I tried working with their management to receive a partial refund but was denied. I knew it would be a very small chance because the purchase specifically said no refunds, which was a gamble but I was hopeful for a better outcome - I was wrong. I asked the kids if they wanted to try again in a few weeks and they unanimously said no. I'll be spending more at another resort but at least the kids will have a better experience, have a larger margin of error while turning, safe place to learn, and not worry so much about falling down the mountain if they make a mistake. Good luck to you.

Took a very last minute day trip. It was super easy to purchase tickets online & parking as well. Homewood has a beautiful view at the big blue view bar, it was so nice to just sit up there and chill before coming down the mountain. The staff is extremely friendly, they had DJs at the entrance by the gift shop & one up at the view bar playing some great music, it was an awesome touch. Great bunny runs for beginners, I only disliked the surface lift on the EZ Slider seems like it may be easier to use on skis than with a snowboard or maybe it was just me. Regardless, the main runs are fun! We started off on the homeward bound & finished on the spillway. For it not having snowed in a while the runs were very well kept. Can't wait until our next trip!

Another amazing trip later this location, this may be my new spot for snowboarding. So I got to Tahoma on Wednesday afternoon and noticed that the Homewood resort was empty. I have to say during the weekdays is the best time to go, the tickets are cheaper during the week, parking is way better and clear runs all day. It was sunny during this time of February which to me I love because I don't have to wear all my gear. A lot of the other routes were closed and you had either the choice to take the lifts back down or another route where a shuttle will pick you up and drive you back to the homewood side. So the nice thing about this spot is at the bottom they have a bar and food area inside, on the outside benches and a little spot that sells the best hot chocolate and these amazing things called Le Waf, also a hot dog in a French bun. Now once you go skiing or snowboarding at the top they have another bar or break area. It is is so relaxing on top of the mountain viewing the lake, playing reggae music. They have a few selections of wraps and burritos to order as well. The bathrooms I wasn't a fan of they smelt so bad but at least they had restrooms on the top. One of my favorite spots to board I'll be back soon.

I was pleasantly suprised with Homewood! As a regular season pass holder at squaw, and having gone to college in Reno, I haven't had the chance to make it out to homewood until now. I'd like to preface this by saying the rental prices are insane... $100-$150+ for a snowboard package day rental. We opted to go 1 minute down the road to West Shore Sports and rented gear for $40. I'll probably leave a review for them if you'd like to check that out as well. So homewood, after grabbing our gear finally made it up the mountain. The runs were well kept and the staff were all really chill. We stopped at the big blue view bar where a dj was playing and they were selling snacks and alcohol. We got the mountain vibes drink which is a whiteclaw poured on top of a shot. Was super awesome! Another thing I'd like to mention is the parking. It's so convenient and literally a 1 minute walk from the lifts. Compared to squaw and other mountains, not having to walk far with gear is a huge plus. Lastly, the view is amazing!! It's breathtaking when you go up the lift and then around -- you're faced with an unobstructed view of Lake Tahoe. People were painting the view and soaking it in all day.

The views do not get any better than this!! Best resort in Tahoe hands down. I grew up in Tahoe and have been skiing/snowboarding here since the 80's. The views are just spectacular, the lines are short, excellent runs and grooming, often hidden powder, and the prices are reasonable. I've snowboarded everywhere in Tahoe; Squaw ($229/day), Alpine, Northstar (Insane Lines), Heavenly, Sierra, and Homewood is by far my favorite. Nice long runs; Rainbow Ridge to Gilbert Gulch, such a great run with amazing lake views! Another favorite, Glory Hole to Ore Car, great place to find powder. Recently one of my kids friends parents went to Homewood for the first time, told me it was his new favorite resort! Just a true Gem! The prices are much more reasonable than the above mentioned resorts, and the runs are spread out, tree lined, not just some giant treeless open bowl like Squaw. And Northstar, so overrated, and expensive! Also nice to be able to park so close to the chairlift if you want to grab something out of your car. I love riding the Madden chair up and looking back at the Lake, it's so close and just beautiful, my favorite chairlift.. Employees are nice, great snow (up top, early and late in the season), views you cannot get anywhere else, except maybe Diamond Peak, but Homewood is much better, higher elevation and more spread out. The new high-speed Quad chair gets you to the top quick, and there's several Intermediate and a few advanced runs to enjoy on that chairlift. On the Ellis Chair you can usually find lots hidden powder towards Hobbit Land and many hidden gems for trails.. Good mix of beginner runs at the bottom, also on the Madden Chair, then up top, tons of Awesome intermediate and advanced runs. You simply cannot leave Homewood without a giant smile and tons of great memories! (Photos are from 3/31/2022)

I LOVE Homewood! I bought season passes and took a lesson from Lou Durano on 1/1/23 and was SUPER impressed! He helped me (55 years old) learn to take the pressure off my legs and knees and let the mountain help me adjust my speed. I cannot really explain it well, but it made a HUGE difference in how tired I am and how long I can ski. Thanks Lou! Hope to see you again during Spring break in late March!

This is what we payed for?!?!

STAY AWAY cheap resort doesn't use their snow making machines. check out my pic. SUPER slow ski lifts $70 lift tickets $80 board and boot rental fee(one in our party was a beginner) Cranky ticket window lady Big blue bar last call at 245 pm but they promptly kick you out at 3 pm? I would put up with the rip off prices if I could actually snowboard/ski I really couldn't. Check out my pic. Most of the trails were awful and not maintained. Dirt, wood chips, and rocks everywhere! Don't understand why they haven't used their snow making machines because I know conditions have allowed for it. I felt so bad for my friends because I recommended this resort but they were ripped off. They payed more for their rentals than they did for their lift tickets! $80!? They couldn't believe how bad the resort was either. We spent more time on the lifts than on the ground, they are super slow and they stopped every couple of feet. Then after an awful experience we though maybe we can just relax and have a drink but no, we were rushed and just 10 minutes after they poured our drink they kicked us out. Skip this place, please. THERE IS NO QUALITY CONTROL HERE.

My first-ever time on skis and it was a success, thanks to Laura the instructor and our small group. I signed up for tomorrow as well and the rental guy was awesome, allowing me to set aside my rentals for when I return. Now I can basically show up tomorrow and skip the fitting etc. My son had his first snowboarding class here, age 4-6 and it was great! He'd only been once last year and once the year before that, so it's practically like his first time ever. This year he wants to go back a second day in a row, thanks to Jack. I went up to see him a couple of hours before the end he was independently going up the escalator thing and coming down on his board. Jack gave him some 1-on-1 tips and broke through his defenses about not wanting to be told how to do it. And he improved after that!

    Haunted Chairlift - Oct 26th, 2019.

I saw a Facebook ad offering an event I had NEVER heard of before - a Haunted Halloween Chairlift Ride. I am not a big fan of Halloween and scary things but I figured I couldn't pass up a chance to ride a chairlift with a spooky theme. The website said it changed from good for kids to adults at 7PM. Full dsicolure - I'm a wimp, so I wanted to go when it was for kids. haha. We arrived at 5PM and were told it was basically a scenic ride before 7PM and that it wasn't super scary. We bought tickets and figured we would hang a few hours at the festival. The festival that was happening wasn't really a festival. They had chairs set up to watch Hocus Pocus, a few caramel apples, popcorn balls, and a face painting station. Not enough to remotely entertain me for 2 hours. We left and had dinner and then came back at 7PM. When we came back the crowds had increased but we still snagged a parking spot. The lot(s) are SUPER small and if this was popular event this would NOT provide enough space for everyone. We cruised over briefly to check out Hocus Pocus in the big screen and then saw a small line had formed at the chairlift. We decided to get in line before it got too long. We waited maybe 15 minutes total before we were loaded onto the life. They load a portion of guests at slow speed and then speed the chairlift up until the full ride is over, then slow it back down for guests to get off and on. This is where it went poorly. We paid $35 per person mind you. PER PERSON for this. It was HORRIBLE. Not scary. Not exciting. Not even entertaining. The entire chair ride had 3 "live scenes" and 2 prop scenes. The live scenes had apathetic actors walking away from their area, ducking behind a truck to change clothes or barely screaming or groaning. The prop based scenes were not done very well and not lit well. This event could have been incredible. They had SO much property to work with and so much potential. Instead I got a chairlift ride with zero entertainment and a hearty price tag. DO NOT come here for the halloween event. This is NOT worth the money. Even at half the price this would not be worth it. Such a waste of huge potential and opportunity!

3.5 stars, i suppose Been coming here a long time intermittently. Not buying seaaon pass there next year. Don't waste money on ski school for kids Dont do rentals there That part pisses me off the most, and I still have one more kid to get on the slopes Management must be sub par as experience is always varied... as with most things its expectations from management When you hire chilean kids and local pot heads management needs to be tight... ownership Best lake view is what it has going for it Some people there are great, but overall its a "fluster-cluck". So many ways to improve And its not about satisfing bay area entitled kooks, its about running a business the right way It has a lot of potential... and I dont mean commercialization

Great resort for the price! Also, their snack shack wasn't outrageous. Definitely will come back for another day trip. Side note - A little disappointing when I went (1-13-22) they only had one lift riding. Only cause of the wind. Besides that, as a beginner the ride was fun.

Small town resort, which for the most part I like, once I get accustomed to the nooks and crannies. But for a first timer, it can be awkward navigating around and trying to figure things out. First there are 2 different parking lots. The north one which actually have 3 mini lots and a south lot which is another 1/2 mile away (huh?). The north lots fills up first because most visitors are coming from North Shore. South Shore peeps will most likely visit Heavenly or Sierra at Tahoe. If visiting again, I will only park in the south lot to avoid the mess and the grouchy parking attendant (dude hates his job). (-) This parking situation also gave us a run around at the end of the day, as the lift that we were on closed at 3:45 so weren't able to head back to the side we had originally parked. Now that was partly our fault, as we were having so much fun and the sun was in full gear, that we lost track of time. But we were forced to ski down to the "north" parking lot, which is a 1/2 mile from where our vehicle was parked. The good is there is a shuttle that you can cram into to get back, cuz a 1/2 mile trek with ski gear would definitely not be fun. We got back but there was just a run around. You don't run into this at most other resorts. (-) A lot of the chairs here are also the older type. I think we only ran into one chair that looked like it was younger than 5 years old. (-) Most trails are narrow. So when a lot of people are out, the popular trails will jam up. Very few open bowls in my one experience, which makes me want to explore some more on future visits. (+++) BUT the views here amazing. The view of Lake Tahoe itself is unparalleled. And I've been to Diamond Peak, Alpine, Heavenly and Squaw, just to name the ones that may have view access to the lake. None are like this. The close proximity to the water is the key. Many of the runs are directly facing the lake. So it feels like you are dropping right into the lake. The first hour, it took some adjusting cuz you want to look at the lake as you're zooming down, but you still have to maintain the view of your direct path. And 75% of the trails face this direction to the lake. Literally breathtaking. (+) There's also a small makeshift tent-like structure about a third up the mountain. It's cool that it is elevated so the views whilst getting a refreshment is unbeatable. But it is not structured so it is kind of a free for all. No deck, no structure to shelter from if weather is foul. It is basically a portable tent, a bunch of plastic patio chairs strewn about in the snow and a restroom off to the side. And there are definitely way more people than there are chairs, so it looks like an outdoor festival where people are sitting all over the place, in chairs, off to the side on any railings, some logs and even on the snow itself. It may sound bad, but to tell ya the truth, everybody looked like they were having a good time. We sat on a snow bank for our beer break, and though not ideal, it didn't ruin our break. And there was a DJ spinning some tunes, which made it even more amusing. (+) Still way less expensive than 90% of the other resorts. I would actually endure all these little quirks, rather than them charging $120 like the other resorts in the area. It is in the high $60s on the weekends and I heard there are online purchases for weekdays in the $50s. I'm making this a weekday destination for the next few years. Homewood you were the last of the Tahoe area resorts that I've tried. And I've been kicking myself as to why. This is going to be a great friendship.
