You know it's unfortunate when you have to go to the mechanic, what you think is going to happen and what it's gonna cost rarely ever becomes that. As with our experience we went in thinking it was one thing that would cost $200 it ended up costing $400. However we had a chance to meet the staff at Honest and were very impressed. They performed an inspection on our car, and have a really cool software program that records it via short videos and pictures, and sent us a text with a link. This is a useful tool as you can go back in the future and decide what you want to fix, as it your budget allows. My exhaust starting getting loud. I come to find out that my exhaust had rusted NEAR the flex pipe where it attached to the y-pipe. Honest-1 (the District Manager) tells me that there is a "hole IN my flex pipe" and that the y-pipe is in really bad condition. He tells me that instead of paying $637, I should replace the y-pipe as well because it's not going to last me and I should just pay the $700. He told me I should make an appointment to get it done asap. He kept asking me "how about tomorrow", "how about Thursday"... I asked him to show me the hold in my flex pipe, but he wouldn't. I wasn't feeling to good about this. When I walked in to Honest-1 Auto Care (Ogden and Eola in Aurora), I immediately got a bad vibe. Can't really place it, but my gut felt something wasn't right about this place. Now, I'm female and over 50....don't know too much about cars but my gut had a feeling that because, 1) they would NOT take me to look under my car when I asked them (when they had it up in the air) and 2) the jargon they started mumbling about, trying to confuse me, felt off. I attached a picture of the real problem with my car. DO. NOT. GO to Honest-1. Had I not had that gut feeling and went with them, I'd be out a whole lot of money. They should change the name of their damn business!!! Epilogue: I took my vehicle to a place in Lombard for an estimate on referral from a friend. This auto care that I went to in Lombard took me under my car and showed me exactly what was wrong. He told me that the flex pipe did NOT have a hole in it and it just needed welding. He also showed me the y-pipe, which was in great condition as well. It ended up costing me $180! My car needed regular maintenance recommended at my mileage, and I happen to live really close to this shop so I thought I would give it a try. With my oil change and other small maintenance, they gave my car a very thorough inspection with a detailed report that got emailed to me. All without pressuring for any extra services. The staff is very kind and the mechanics are knowledgeable. The services are on the slightly pricier side, but in my opinion the service made up for it. We brought in our 2021 VW Jetta in for a simple front brake inspection, and they completely took advantage of the situation. Not only did they inspect a ton of things I never asked for, but they also messed with parts of my car that were working perfectly fine. For some reason, they took out my spark plugs-even though I didn't ask for that to be done or "inspected". Two-three days after I left the shop, my car started making a weird noise. Then, the check engine light and EPC light came on. I took it back to have them fix whatever they messed up, and they refuse to take any accountability. All I've gotten are shady excuses and no real explanation for what went wrong. Their incompetence and negligence are obvious. I'm convinced they tampered with my engine, took parts out that they shouldn't have, and then didn't put things back together correctly because they are incompetent to work with cars like mine. The "mechanic" or "service technicians" who messed with my car are clearly inexperienced. They're a joke. If you care about your car, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They clearly don't know what they're doing, and now my car is in worse shape than when I brought it in. We have proof of literally EVERYTHING. My car doesn't run now and has multiple lights on the dashboard. When I took my car to them my car was running great besides needing new front breaks. Response to Owner's comments You are asking for record of the tire rotation being performed. I don't have one but please see attached screen captures 1, 2 & 3. These are time stamped WhatsApp conversation between me and my wife dated July 25th 2019, between 12 & 1 pm. Once I got a notification that the shop performed had completed the oil change, I inquired about the tire rotation. I had specifically asked the owner for this when I made the appointment. My wife checked with the technician who responded that "I had not asked for a tire rotation". After this I called my wife and spoke to her and the technician directly, explaining that the owner had agreed to perform the tire rotation. The technician then checked with the owner who confirmed that a tire rotation was to be performed. Then a tire rotation was performed and for this my wife spent another 30 minutes at Honest1. You say your records don't reflect a tire rotation. That may be because your staff did not update the record correctly. Hindsight is 20/20 had I anticipated that the tire rotation would lead to a problem, I surely would have made them put it in the record. All I know is no other oil change/ tire rotation has been done on my vehicle since July 25th. See the Honest1 oil change sticker still on my car windshield. Had any other shop done an oil change/ tire rotation they would have replaced this with their own. Cosco gave me in writing that the lug nut was mounted incorrectly and was cross threaded so they had to break the stud to mount the new tire. read more

Went in for a wiper fix and serp belt replacement AFTER THEY diagnosed my car for repairs during an oil change (the HARMONIC BALANCER WAS NOT ON THE DIAGNOSTICS FOR IN NEED OF REPAIR, don't worry this comes up later) . Went to go pick up my car and the a/c doesn't work and the battery light is on. I pull in to the BP that's in the same parking lot to get some gas. It's now only been maybe 5 minutes since I got my car from Honest Auto Care, once Im done at the pump I start my car and hear a POP. My power steering went out. Take it back to their lot (same lot as the BP/McDonalds) and RAMON working the front desk said he's "not gonna shit around with me". I was extremely upset, what if I had gotten off the lot and on the road? Or even the highway? I was too heated and went to the McDonald's in the BP next door to cool off for a bit before going back to Honest Auto Care. So now we get in to the crazy stuff. RAMON comes out with this tiny belt and says that they should have put 2 belts on and the tech working on my car should have let him know?. 2 belts? They should have? Admitting it was your mistake? The belt RAMON comes out with has a gash in it and it's HALF THE SIZE of the belt that was SUPPOSED to be in there and it's caused the Harmonic Balancer to fail. RAMON swindled me in to PAYING TO REPLACE THE HARMONIC BALANCER AND THE LABOR TOTAL $560 ON TOP OF $230 FOR WHAT I INITIALLY WENT IN FOR, NOW I HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO PAY RENT THIS MONTH. I want to wrap this up quick bc I don't ever want to think about these depraved people again. I don't know much about cars, I trusted them, and they took advantage of that to cover their mistake. I unfortunately had lost trust and declined. I appreciated their effort to contact me. Had issues with my brakes/rotors 2 years after having them done here. Almost exactly 2 years later, but still within the 2 year/mileage warranty coverage perimeters, rotors were already producing a noticeable pulsating sensation when braking. I was told the brakes look great and they felt nothing. I was completely surprised as it was quite noticeable to myself and others. The shaking issue was not investigated further. I could not trust my car sitting in that garage any longer and picked it up. Another shop down the street I routinely go to noticed this deterioration a week prior. I called last Friday for a complimentary alignment check and was informed the earliest they have is on Tuesday at 10 am. So they asked for my phone number (not even my name) and said I'm all set for Tuesday at 10 am. Since I couldn't go on Tuesday due to other things, my wife called and made an appointment for the next day, Wednesday, at 9:30 am. So I show-up today (Wednesday) for my appointment, and the bald-head person at the front desk looks up multiple times on his computer screen and informs they never have my name or number listed for Tuesday or Wednesday. Are you kidding me? I took a day off from work just for this appointment and he says he already has 3 cars lined up and that I would have to wait for 3 hours and pay $30 for the alignment check. He never accepted his fault even after both me and my wife talking to gNo apologies from him either! To hell with this place! We started going here because they were covered by our warranty. We will continue to go here after the warranty expires. The service is always wonderful, the staff is knowledgeable and always friendly. Service is done within a reasonable amount of time and is done well. They never push you to do more than you need to to fix a problem. If they notice something else needs to be done or should be done they explain it without a bunch of bs and will tell you if something needs to be done asap or if it should be done in the near future. Still has not fixed my car or responded to her insurance adjuster. I have contacted a local tv station to the a story on how bad Honest - 1 is. It has been well over 4 months. And she knew she did not have the capability to fix my car yet held it for Over 2 months. Do not go there ever. Her insurance first said that they were covering a replacement used engine and then the adjuster denied it, saying that it was a blown head gasket. I've always had a positive view of Honest 1. But the last couple of times I've gone to them, it's bad to the point that I'm actually considering legal action. I brought my car in because my power steering was not working. They told me I needed a power steering rack, pump, hose, and an alignment. Since I need my car to get to work, I paid the $1800+. Picked up my car the next day and they warned my that the power steering pump was whining, but should stop in a few days. Not only did it not stop, the power steering went out again. I took it back, and was told that there was a issue with the power steering pump. They fixed it, but it was still whining. I couldn't afford to miss any more work, so I kept driving it A few months later, the power steering goes out again. This time I take it to a mechanic that I used to use before I moved. He told me that I needed a power steering rack. I told him I had it replaced months ago. He said I don't know what they did, but you definitely need a rack. So another $800. Got it back and guess what! No more whining. I posted a review on Google, and they called me while I was at work and couldn't talk. And they didn't leave a message. But what would they have to say? My grandad always used to say "A bought lesson is a taught lesson", and I learned a painful lesson. Don't go to a mechanic because they're conveniently close. Go because they're honest. Just had the rear brakes replaced on my car and it wasn't the price that got me (although it was $30 less that my precious quote) it was the service, convenience, warranty and an unexpected bonus! Greeted by the FEMALE owner, we were seated in a pleasant and clean waiting area, quickly got an estimate, were driven home and picked up when the car was ready! The bonus was an extra $25 off the quoted price, a 3yr/36,000 warranty AND 1 year of roadside assistance up to $75 cost reimbursement per incident! I've been coming to Honest-1 Auto care instead of my usual Toyota dealership for oil change and I have never been happier about my switch. Just like most auto shops, it helps to make an appointment. It's very easy to make an appointment online, so I would suggest to do that before showing up to the shop. The waiting area is small but is very clean and organized. I love how they have a kids area. They do provide complimentary coffee and snacks even though McDonalds and Starbucks are right next door. I've always received warm greetings when I check in for my appointment. They do give you an option of dropping your car off and they will give you a call when your car is ready. I love how they email you a breakdown of the car assessment. So you can see which things need attention and decide if you want them done there or not. I also like the location. It's easy to find, with plenty of parking. This was a truly sad experience. This use to be a great and truly "honest" shop. My young daughter, freshman in college, just bought her first used car. She worked very hard to buy that car. She noticed an issue with breaks. I took it to honest one and was quoted a $1200 dollar job to replace rear calipers. They claimed a certain "clip" was not installed on the rear calipers and it had destroyed the calipers and bent the pins. When I asked for a pic of the issue they suddenly didn't have any after they had sent me other misleading pictures. When I took it for a second opinion we found all of it was a lie. There was no damage at all!. The issue wasn't even in the rear breaks. It was a few dollar fix for an issue on the front brakes. Runs and brakes like a dream now. They were ready to prey on a young college student and take her for $1200! Just wanted to warn everyone that this shop would be fine if they just named it One Auto care. Drop the honest. This was my first time at this place and to be honest, we were at the near by BP looking to get air in our tire before we traveled up north. We asked to get air in our tires and without hesitation, they were more than willing to fill our low tire. Now only that l, Matt checked the other tires to make sure they were in good shape. Even though this was a free service, he was more than willing to help us and he was extremely friendly and wish us a safe trip. This actually made my day and I wish more people would be this polite in the auto industry. Probably the coziest customer friendly auto mechanic shop in this area. The female owner is friendly; there are snacks, soda, water, coffee, toys for the kids, couches, hd tv, even a computer with wifi free to use. I came in for front left sway bar link repair. The sales mechanic told me they install them in pairs. I told him I only wanted the one that was damaged to be repaired. He verified with the technician or mechanic working on my car and then they just replaced one of them as I requested. I also got a 10% coupon I found online. I asked to see if they can do tire rotations and they did that as well. They serviced it all in a reasonable amount of time...about an hour and a half. Total was about $150 with coupon. There is also a Starbucks and McDonald's if you have to wait there. So that will keep you occupied...and probably spend more money. LOL read more

Just in case you want the short version, remember the fear of taking your car into a mechanic that ends up costing your more,, Honest Auto fit the Bill for me. Before you even consider so much as an oil change read what happened to me.... My car was towed to Honest Auto ( they really should consider changing their name as honesty does not fit this venue). I was told I needed a new battery, a check engine light and possible alternator resulted in my request for diagnosis. I received a detailed report of repairs my car needed. Nothing really other than battery at present, ABS is a pending recall... I picked my car up, opting for the new battery. Once I entered my car to leave I noticed the driver seat was not operable nor the heated seats. Thinking the new battery install may have blown a fuse, I went back in and explained what I discovered. One of the employees, possible owner came out and did what appeared to check to see if my seat was working. He also spoke with someone who may have been the mechanic who worked on my vehicle. His conclusion was there was a problem with the seat?? Yes, but not before their repair. I pointed out the seat was moved all the way back not a position I used and again reminded this non mechanic my car seat and heat were working prior to service. IMMEDIATELY he went into denial and "we are not responsible" position. Now mind you, I was not a new customer and had recently spent over $1,000 on brake repairs. Both the perceived owner including "Karen" suddenly abandon their pledge. What happen to "were Honest Auto, fair shake, unlike the other rip you off places. YES YOU ARE. Because now, right before winter, I have no heated seats, can't move my seat back to my preferred driving position, and that check engine light that was off came back on in 20 minutes. As I explained ripping me off is not acceptable. Note, nothing was mention about any electrical problem with my$71 diagnosis charge. Playing people by naming your business "Honest" backfires when you are not. I am going to file a complaint with the Attorney Generals office. I am going to file a complaint with BBB, and wherever I can post my review on your dishonest experience I was subjected to keep your phony "we are different" pledge and take your place among the other sorry excuse for an auto service. I took a car in for an a repair a few months ago, and kept having to go back to get it solved. Total of 3 visits and a lot of money. I brought my car in for an oil change yesterday. I drove home (approx. 2 miles), parked and about 45min later went to take my son to school. I started the car and went in to grab my wallet (forgot on the counter). I came back into the garage to find smoke billowing from under my hood. I shut it off and opened the hood. It appeared my alternator was on fire. I did not have any previous issues with the car! I called and they set up a tow back to the Honest One garage. The next morning, I called and received a quote for just under $800 to replace the alternator (which was fine before my oil change...lol). I told the rep that the quote sounded high, but authorized the work. A couple hours later, I decided to get a couple other quotes within the area, both of which came in under $400. I called Honest One and asked if they had installed the new alternator. The rep told me my old one was out but the new alternator had not been installed. I told him to stop the job and asked how much I owed to release the vehicle. He told me I would only pay the $88 for the tow, to which I agreed and paid over the phone. I contacted a tow truck to pick up my car and made a same day appointment with another shop. When I called "Honest One" back to make sure the old alternate was placed in the vehicle, they told me the new alternator was installed, and I would need to pay for the job. By this time my tow truck had arrived and was waiting. I was on the phone for almost 30min, with the manager (Karen), who explained the rep had been mistaken and I would need to pay in full. Ugh...After a lot of back and forth with strong arm attempts by the manager, she finally agreed to take off the new alternator and release the vehicle. Even with their tow charges (never received an invoice...lol) and another tow to the other locations, I came in approx. $380 under the Honest one quote. And, the other location is a certified Napa shop..not fly by night. Do Not Do Business Here!! Just came from the shop I had my car towed to. My dipstick handle had been broken off, but was fine last night when I lifted the hood. Turns out I still have oil leaking from the variable timing solenoid and oil pan gasket that Honest One allegedly replaced a few months ago...This new shop is Naperville Automotive Solutions...Great experience..thanks, Billy and Geoff! BTW...Went back to Honest One after getting my car fixed at the other shop. The manager, Karen gave me the towing invoice, while I was discussing the dipstick and oil leaks found by Naperville Automotive Solutions. She was enraged! Maybe read my review. They pretend to "care about customers" but even the owner herself doesn't live up to any standards. 6 months ago go in for oil change, they up sold up to the premium package...which raised red flags but did it anyways. Called the same day to get a pre purchase vehicle inspection, and they were able to squeeze me in for an early afternoon appointment. Cande conducted the vehicle inspection and was very thorough in his findings and explanations. I really appreciated his honest feedback and helping me understand the immediate repairs and the possibilities of unforeseen repairs that were likely needed to ensure safety. Overall, I was extremely impressed with the service that he provided. Although I live in Romeoville, I do believe that Cande makes commuting to Aurora for future car services completely worth it.
