A wolf in sheep's clothing. As the saying goes, "The devil is in the details." I was traveling through Clarksville, TN, from out of state when I was referred to Honest-1 Auto Care by a fellow church member. I brought my vehicle in because of a leaking power steering hose. They replaced the leaking hose and told me a mandatory power steering flush was required because the system had been opened. I agreed, even though I had already had the power steering system flushed about a month earlier. The total cost was approximately $700. The very next day, I discovered that the power steering reservoir was empty. Honest-1 Auto Care acknowledged that the problem was caused by their work. During the original repair, they had moved another pressurized power steering line--the line supplying the brake Hydro-boost system--too close to the pulley assembly. The pulley subsequently sliced the hose. I brought the vehicle back the following day. They had it repaired within about an hour. However, instead of replacing the damaged hose, they cut out the damaged section, installed fittings, and used hose clamps to splice the line back together. I was told this was a proper repair. It wasn't according to General Motors. The following day, the power steering reservoir was empty again. At that point, I specifically requested that they replace the line they had damaged and repair the problem properly once and for all. The next day, I was told they could not find any leaks and suggested that the empty reservoir was most likely because they had not flushed the system. They then wanted to leave the temporary splice in place, refill the power steering reservoir, and send me on my way. That was not acceptable. I was already traveling out of state and had a long drive of approximately 4,000 miles ahead of me. The power steering system also operates the brake Hydro-boost system on my diesel vehicle. I was not willing to gamble on a temporary repair that had already failed, especially when I was far from home. Because of this situation, I had to cancel reservations and make new arrangements, costing me additional time and disrupting my trip. Ultimately, I paid $144 for a new replacement line. They installed it at no additional labor charge. They also did not perform another power steering flush. Instead, they bled the system to remove the air--despite previously insisting that a flush was mandatory whenever the system was opened. I appreciated the fact that they acknowledged their original mistake and ultimately installed the replacement line. However, the overall experience left me feeling that I had paid for a service that may not have been necessary, and that the repair could and should have been done correctly the first time. What concerns me most is that I was an out-of-state customer, traveling on a schedule, with limited options and thousands of miles between me and home. I can't say what their intentions were, but the way this situation was handled left me feeling that my circumstances were taken advantage of. My advice to anyone using this shop: ask questions, get a clear explanation of what is actually required, and carefully inspect any repair--especially if you're traveling and don't have the luxury of returning home to your regular mechanic. A repair shop earns trust not just by patching up a mistake, but by taking responsibility and making sure the customer leaves with a safe, properly completed repair the first time. read more

I believe they are the best value in the area. Their inspection they do with every visit is valuable when you drive an older vehicle like I do as things begin to leak and deteriorate. Their inspection sheet features images to go with their assessment, which provides proof for those who might be skeptical. Its not like the quick oil change places where you go in for an oil change and they come talk to you about everything from your air filter, tire rotation, engine flush, serpentine belt, and anything they have no record of at their location to even include changing the air freshener tree on your mirror "as per manufacturer recommendations..." or "to enhance the performance/engine life of your vehicle..." They take the time to do a fair and accurate assessment to see if other problems exist. You don't always want to hear what they have to say after their inspection (I drive an '05 so they had all kinds of legitimate findings...) but they are forthright and live up to their name. I was familiar with most of the problems they identified and would trust they wouldn't gouge someone not as savvy with mechanical knowledge. Good and courteous folks work here and who seem to enjoy what they do. While I live here, I will continue to utilize them for my vehicle's needs. Towed my truck ,after a week there, they call me .my truck wouldn't stay running. They did their evaluation and stated it need was fuel sensor and clean fuel lines. It came alittle over 700 hundred Dollars. So I said fine fix it. Came to pick up my truck ,they It's still not running you and approx 1500 dollar more parts and labor. I came into Honest-1 for an appointment to change my spark plugs. From the start, the person that I was speaking to made it seem like he didn't want me there. He asked me if I was leaving the car because this would take hours to complete. Errrr, ok, any google search will let you know that on average it takes an hour to change spark plugs. It also will tell you that the average cost to change your spark plugs is $16-100 for parts and $40-150 for labor. This guy quoted $614.40 and that was with a $50 discount! My mind was blown. I told him that I was quoted by my mechanic in Chicago that it would cost around $100, and his response was that he didn't know what kind of cheap parts this mechanic was using. Well, you know what, dude? I don't know what kind of parts you use, but with that price you must be using some diamond encrusted Gucci plugs, or something. After leaving the shop, I called an actual honest mechanic in Clarksville and was quoted $140. I told them about the previous quote from Honest-1, and they were about as shocked as I was. They informed me that they were charging for things that were not needed for maintenance. I ended up losing a car at this place and had a great experience during the process... Car had a leak. I called some local shops and Michael picked up the phone at H1. Nice guy. I took the car in and they diagnosed it within 1 business day. I had explained I did not need a rush on this (car is a 2002 beater neon) but I was happy with the turn-around time. Michael texted me a link to a report with how the car tested etc, car had failed the "block" test. Michael called me up, said the block (engine) was cracked and coolant was leaking from there, also burning oil, etc, to fix the crack would need to replace the engine. Well, my beater is dead, I did it, I burned to to the ground. Instead of trying to persuade me to replace the engine, Michael recommended I call a service that buys beater cars. He didn't have to help with this but it was awesome that he did. He offered to let my car sit on his lot until the process was complete. Awesome. I called the service, explained what was up with the car, they said they wouldn't buy it but would accept it as a donation. I decided to donate the car for auction to support St Judes Children's. Went back to the shop to settle the paperwork, diagnostic fee was about 100$, that's alright, they did a good job and told me (not entirely unschooled in auto repair) something I didn't know about my car. Ok cool. I decided since I was out a car and 100$, at least I could pull my fancy tuner wheels and good tires off the car to recoup my losses. I tried to remove the wheels but no longer had the right socket for the lugs. Michael went out of his way to find me the right socket out of his own shop, and one of his guys loaned me a 1/2 socket wrench. Guys showed some trust in this current state of things, and that is awesome and speaks volumes. I got my wheels and put on some old steelies I had, dropped off the title, and left. A few days later Michael was the point man for the car to get picked up by the service. He didn't have to do any of this, and their shop certainly did not make any extra $ on the assistance they gave me, but they earned my future business and respect as well. Cheap oil change if you get a good coupon in the mail are ok. Let my wife take her fancy little car there because I just dont feel like messing with it. On my other cars I have always been able to do a good oil change in 8-10 minutes, so I know of which I speak. But after seeing that quote on paper to charge $610.00 to swap 4 little spark plugs I would not let wife trust them for anything. I do the plug swap on any 4 cylinder engine in 10 minutes time at the billing rate of $100.00 per hour, ($10.00 for 10 minutes) and for $1.99 for each spark plug. So this grand total runs $10.00 for labor and $8.00 for parts. Wow an $18.00 job at cost? For a $610.00 quote. They must have thought this man was really stupid. There has not been any need for a "Tune up" on any car built after 1994. Plus trying to charge him for fuel injection service on a car that I guaran-darned-tee has a carberator and doesn't have any fuel injectors at all. I think the year was 1994 when ODBII was introduced as a computerized control system. It's really hard to believe that they would mix modern computer controled fuel injection services charges with an ancient carberator system with a non computerized rotary spark disributor? Didn't they replace distributor spark with easy coil spark packs in 1994 when ODBII came out? It's really hard to believe that you would quote for expensive fuel injection service on a car that most likely has no fuel injectors at all? Didn't those cars use carberators without any computer control at all before 1994 with ODBII? There is no such thing as a "Tune Up" on any modern computerized car made after ODBII in 1994 where computers do all the "Tune Work" automaticlly? I owned and sold an old 1994 Toyota Camry and that thing never had any carberator instead of comuterize coils. First time customer here. I emailed the folks here about a quote to replace a serpentine belt (parts + labor.) They promptly responded within 2 hours and quoted an estimate. Afterwards, they offered to look at it ASAP and offered alternative times. I had the belt replaced today for a decent cost of ~128 for a 2009 Honda Civic LX. So today September 10 I decided to take the boys for a drive to Cross Creeks in Dover from Clarksville. We made several stops along the way. Then all of a sudden at one stop my truck wouldn't start again. Luckily there was 3 gentleman fishing at this spot. They stopped what they where doing and immediately checked my truck over, they even crawled underneath to check the starter....it was the starter. They took about 2 hours of there time to ran and grab tools while I waited for the starter to be brought to me. They were awesome! I was headed back home to Illinois from Alabama when the Engine reduce power light popped up. Thought it could be a battery issue after googling the issue. Drove to the local auto part store and of course they said that was the issue. Changed the battery started back down the road...1st stop light car died. This is my go to place for oil changes and routine maintenance and my vehicle. Don't listen to the 1 star comments. They're from whiney people who expect to get stuff done for free. Here is my advice to them: 1. There is a markup on all auto parts anywhere you go. It's unheard of that a place doesn't mark up their parts. If you don't want to pay it, buy the parts yourself and give them to the mechanic. Otherwise, don't cry about it. 2. Estimates are just that, Estimates. Sometimes you just don't know the full story until you take something apart and get a good look at it. One time the estimate was more, another time it was less. That's how estimates work, so get over it. 3. Your 29.99 oil change coupon probably won't cost you 29.99. Maybe it would back in 1990, but oil has changed a lot since, and better oil just cost more. Accept it. If you take care of your vehicle, it will take care of you. 4. If you could have saved $$ by taking it someplace else or doing it yourself, than why didn't you do that in the first place? Sure, there are plenty of grease monkeys in this town. But the don't back up there work like this place does. I went to one and you got to see the Rub Goldberg job they did on my exhaust. DO NOT GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT! No customer service whatsoever! I made sure I called them a week ahead to get some information about their service. I spoke to Matt who informed me that they didn't do appointments for wheel alignments. So, I asked what would be the latest time I can bring my vehicle in. He told me that as long as I brought the vehicle in between 3-4pm, M-F, they can get it done. Fast forward to Monday, I brought my vehicle in at 3:30pm and was told that they couldn't do it because there was a car in front of me and to come back the next day. Come back the next day with the possibility of getting turned away again since they don't do appointments??! I'm a little bit perturbed at this point because I just took time off of work and rearranged my schedule to get this done. Only to be told they couldn't do it because of 1 car. Mind you, they close at 6pm. He didn't even check in the back to see if it would be possible. He didn't even try to call his boss. I asked him if it even made sense for him to tell people on the phone that as long as they can come in by 4pm, they can get assistance because it isn't true. I made it before 4pm and was still turned away. Moral of the story is, DO NOT GO TO HONEST ONE FOR ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR CAR! If this is how they treat their customers, I'll take my business elsewhere! Their employees need to learn customer service, specifically Matt and he needs to stop telling the lie to come before 4pm. I've taken my vehicle here twice to be serviced. I misunderstood the gentlemen on the phone and was quoted $679.00 for what I thought was the oil pressure sending unit and a vent valve solenoid. Boy was I wrong. They only fixed the pressure sending unit which would have cost $180-250 anywhere else. They recommended an oil and air filter change but didn't say anything about the solenoid, or tie rod ends that may also be bad. I also left with check engine codes on the dash. Overall this place is 3x as expensive as Anywhere else in Clarksville, I won't be going back. In the future I'll get a written estimate before I ever get car work done and more than likely I'll just do it myself read more

They also never asked what kind of oil I wanted and did everything to my car before telling me how much it costs. Never going here for anything again. Was a customer, despite what owners say. To bring others up to speed on everything that transpired, I took a 2007 Lexus GS 350 to them a couple of weeks ago for diagnosis on a couple of issues. I paid the $150, plus tax, diagnosis fee (this was known upfront and I have no problem with the fee) and was given an estimate of repairs totaling nearly $4000. The estimate was emailed to me before I picked the vehicle back up and I was immediately suspicious because of the number of hours of labor involved and a couple of the repairs diagnosed. So, I have family in the business and had them look at the estimate. They couldn't figure out how they got to around 19 hours of labor. I went and paid the diagnosis fee and asked Mike if he'd put the vehicle back up on the rack and let me hear, and see, if there was play in the 2 rear hubs that he claimed needed replacing. He immediately balked and said there really wasn't any play in the hubs but just noise coming from them that let them know they were bad. I was suspicious because both wheel bearings (hub assemblies) don't normally go bad at the same time or near the same time. It's typically only 1 that goes bad and needs replacement. I know that normally a technician is the one that does the diagnosis and the manager writes the estimate based on the technicians diagnosis. I asked Mike, since he was adamant I didn't need to look at the vehicle, if he did the diagnosis himself and he said that he did. So, he said he diagnosed and wrote the estimate. I doubted this was true but knew, at this point, that I wouldn't be allowing them to repair the vehicle so I didn't press the issue. I then asked Mike to step outside with me and he did so. I told him I was giving him one opportunity to tell the truth about the number of hours that he claimed the repairs would take. He said it's just what the system said it took. I asked him what system they used and he said Mitchell Pro, which is exactly the same system my family uses. I informed him of this and he still stuck to his story. I then confronted him about one of the other services recommended in the estimate, a coolant system flush. One of the repairs that he said needed to be made, was a whole new radiator. If you're replacing the radiator you are losing most of the coolant, anyway, and definitely wouldn't need a coolant flush. When confronted with this fact, he immediately said that was his mistake and it shouldn't be on there. I gave him one more chance to come clean about the hours and told him if he just told the truth I'd leave and he'd never hear from me again. If not, I'd review the business on every site available. He stuck to his story and I left. I gave an initial review, that night, on this site and on Honest-1's website. There were several people who commented and I promised a final review once I had the vehicle repaired and confirmed some of my other suspicions about only one wheel bearing being bad as well as one of the other services that were recommended. Mike claimed, on the estimate, that there was a little metal in the rear differential, but he didn't think it was so bad that it needed repairing. He recommended just changing the differential fluid. I suspected he was adding this because it was easy money since they'd already be replacing both hubs and rear brakes. I'd know the whole truth once it was repaired by someone else. After the initial review I recieved an email from Mike , essentially trying to shame me for putting 8 HONEST employees in jeopardy by posting the review. I responded that he'd done that himself with, what I felt, was a dishonest estimate and over billing for hours of labor required for the job. I also recieved a message from the owner , Tucker, that he'd like to talk to me, and make things right. I've been taking my cars here for a year now. So far, they've been great about providing any services as requested, including repair of a transmission leak & 2 oil leaks in an older BMW. There was one issue in getting parts for the BMW (the issue was more so with the BMW dealership sending the parts on time), but the staff at Honest One stayed on top of things & even ended up driving out of town/state to pick up parts after being let down by the Nashville BMW not sending parts on time. They've never recommended unnecessary or excessive services and they've always been polite and compassionate even when I've been discouraged about making major car care decisions. read more
